For Your Eyes Only

It took eight weeks and five visits to get one pair of glasses that weren’t off. I’ve never had that kind of problem with an optometrist, and even after all this time and visits I’m not happy with the glasses. I will not go back.

I understand this eye clinic is now under new management, so disregard the good reviews from before. I waited 90 minutes for my appointment with no apologies from the doctor or staff. When I asked, «Did I get the appointment time wrong?» I was told the doctor came in late that day. The doctor was nice, but rushed because we were running so late. I realized later that this office charged me an $ 89 «new patient» fee. Uh, thanks. That brought my total for this horrible experience to $ 158 — double what I paid later to go to Bright Eyes Optique (which is a terrific place and wonderful alternative).

I had a 12 o’clock appointment. At 12:40, I had not been seen. I asked how soon I would be able to have my eye exam. I was eventually told five minutes and that the exam would only take five minutes. No luck, so I left. I also felt uneasy about the amount of time I would have been allotted.

Well, I put my misgivings aside when I read the negative reviews, because hey: i can handle a wait. I also wanted to be close to home so I wouldn’t have to drive far after my exam.
So I called and the very first question I asked was: Do you take my insurance?
They assured me they did. I told them I needed a general eye exam so I could get new contacts. No problem! So I made my appointment for about 10 days later.
So I just went to my appointment, where they told me they only take my insurance if there is a medical *problem*, but not just for eye exams.
They did tell me I could still have my exam, but I would have to pay out of pocket for it. Maybe that’s their scam? I don’t know. But hell if I’m giving them my money after they wasted my time so utterly and completely. TEN DAYS i waited for this appointment. Ten days that I could have made another appointment.
So here I am, two days out from a lengthy trip out of town, with no contacts. And hoping to find a doctor that will not only have an appointment available tomorrow, but who will also not tell me half truths about my insurance eligibility.
ALSO THANKS FOR GETTING THAT STUPID FOR YOUR EYES ONLY SONG STUCK IN MY HEAD ALL DAY.

I do love this place, especially Dr. LeBlanc. But my most recent experience but not great at all. I had an appointment for 2:30 so I decided to come in a few minutes early to sign-​in, talk insurance, etc… I was barely greeted when I entered the door. Once seated, I watched people walk around doing various duties around the office. I watched the doctor chat with a nurse, use the phone, and look over paperwork. By 3:00, I was still waiting and so were the two customers ahead of me.
At 3:05, a woman walked out and said that it was ridiculous to wait so long. I agreed. At 3:10, I left as well.
If I do return, I’ll stick with Dr. LeBlanc. The other doctor is not great at all.

I love their office. My doctor takes her time and answers any questions I have. You don’t want sb. who rushes you through and maybe overlooks sth. important. After all, it’s about your eyes and little things now can turn into sth. dangerous later/​surgery. I personally would like to avoid that. Being rushed through like a car at a car-​wash would be a deal breaker for me.
The staff is friendly, they have always worked with me and have done their best to accommodate my needs (despite my really difficult work schedule — I work long hours). (Maybe that’s also because I am respectful to them as well?)
Besides that they are open on Saturdays! Thank you! And to the nurses and doctors: thank you for working on a day most people are off! You deserve a «thank you» for that!
Please, if you can make other appointments during the week (e.g. formidable stay-​at-​home moms, retired ladies and gents), leave those appointment on Saturdays for those of us who have no way out. We would so much appreciate it.
Bring some time with you, as well. As every good office + located on one of the busiest streets, they have a lot of patients, so you may have to wait a little bit. To me, it is worth the time. After all, I go there maybe once a year to have my check-​up and feel perfectly taken care of.

I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend For Your Eyes Only. They are consistently late, to the point of being extremely disrespectful. I understand appointments running 10 or 15 minutes late, however, most most recent appointment was 40 minutes late.
I have continued to go to this place because of their work in schools, however, I will not be coming back after my most recent experience. The customer service was terrible. In addition, they charged me the incorrect amount for my glasses because they didn’t understand my insurance.

Terrible customer service! Do not go here! Waited for almost a month for the contacts I ordered to come in. There is never enough people to help.

Previous reviews mention that the business hours of For Your Eyes Only are a little varied and off. Know why that is? They go into schools and provide vision services and eyeglasses to students in New Orleans who can’t afford them. I don’t know about you, but this is the sort of place to which I want to give my business.
I first learned about this office from the nurse practitioner at McDonogh 35’s student clinic while I was assisting with health screenings. I was looking for a new optometrist anyway, and after hearing all the wonderful things they’ve done for the students, I made an appointment this week. They were able to see me within two days.
I met both optometrists and thought they were fantastic; super friendly and personable. The exam was thorough but quick. They have one, very comfortable exam room in the back of the office and the equipment is all very modern and up-​to-​date. I will say, I don’t think their selection of frames is too extensive, but they had exactly what *I* was looking for, so I’m happy. They staff was very honest about the choices I debated between, which made the experience fun. They were also able to apply a discount to my new set of specs.
These folks are great! Shop local!

Visiting the city with my soon to watch the Saints game. Unfortunately he rips his contacts Saturday morning” we call the friendly staff of For Your Eyes Only and send them the prescription via email. By the time we got to their, the contacts were ready for us. Superb customer service and great people overall. I wish they were in my city!

Bad experience, this place tried to charge me 20 dollars and sign a paper to avoid blaming them if my expensive frame gets damaged. What was the 20 dollars for?. This is the only place who charges yhis ridiculous fee.. Where do they ship the frames? So they can get broken …

I gave 2 stars rather than one, because the optometrist was nice. However the experience was horrible and I would NEVER recommend this place, as they seem consistently late, which I find extremely disrespectful.
I called in the morning to see if they were running late, and they told me the doctor was running slightly late, but that my appointment time at 11:30 would be perfect. Just before noon, one of the receptionists told the other patient, whose appointment was at 11:15, and myself that the doctor should be with us shortly, and «don’t worry, you both will be out by 12:30.» Sure. At 12:30 the lady with the 11:15am appointment got taken back. Not one of the three receptionists volunteered any forgiveness or concern that the doctor was running SOOOO far behind. At 12:49, I was taken back, and the doctor was in to see my at 12:58. That was RIDICULOUS. The optometrist was very nice, but her excuse still didn’t make up for the fact that they could called or been up front about the fact she was running so far behind. I have much better things to do than sit around for 1.5 hours waiting for a 20 minute eye appointment.
Additionally, I have apparently $ 130 for eye exam, however the «contact fitting» wasn’t included and they charged my insurance $ 85 for the basic exam and I had to pay out of pocket $ 75 for a «contact fitting.» I have never been charged that much extra for a contact exam, as usually the entire exam is less than $ 130…and I’ve been wearing contacts and having eye exams every 1 – 2 years for the past 20 years.

I cannot even express how happy I was with this place! I walked in and they were busy, so I set up an appointment the next day. I had lost my glasses so I was in a hurry to get a new pair. I also just recently lost my optical insurance. When I told them both of these things they had my glasses ready within the same week (went in on Mon, picked up glasses Thurs) and also gave me a student discount and offered me a payment plan instead of paying in full immediately. The doctor spent so much time with me (I am between 2 RXs so she let me try on the lenses multiple times to be sure).
I never liked wearing my glasses before but I love these so much I wear them all the time!

I recently had a very frustrating experience with For Your Eyes Only ²⁰⁄₂₀. I first visited the office in September and had an overall pleasant experience (why I gave 2 stars instead of 1). They did their best in finding me the right contacts and prescription for my eyes. When I called six months later to reorder my contacts… this is where the frustration came in. I called on a Wednesday and was told someone would pull my chart and call me right back. I waited all morning and did not receive a call. When I called back in the afternoon, I was told the same thing.
I called a few days later (after never receiving a call) and was put on hold for so long that the line hung up on me. I called back, told them what I wanted and that I was using my insurance. There was some kind of confusion on their part and they told me my insurance would not cover the contacts. I knew something was wrong and told them I would get in contact with my HR/​insurance. After checking, I called them back and told them they needed to look into it because I was fully covered. They then realized no one had ever updated my chart with my most recent contacts. After we finally got everything figured out, the order was placed and I was told I would have them the next week.
After not hearing back for over a week, I called the office and was put on hold. Once again I was on hold for so long the line hung up on me. I called back and had to explain all over again that I wanted to know the status on my order… I was on the phone for 20 minutes… majority of which was on hold. I was told they had my contacts, but they just forgot to call me.
When I first ordered my contacts, I was also told I could get a rebate. When I picked up the contacts, I asked about the rebate and they gave me the information. After reading it over, I realized I did not even qualify for the rebate since I was just re-​ordering contacts and had not had an eye exam.
Overall, this was a painfully frustrating experience. I will not go back to this office.

Had an appointment here. Went well, doctor was charming and competent — I trust her assessment and advice.
I returned to purchase frames for my prescription, chose a pair and placed an order (my size was out of stock). I checked in two weeks later. Put on hold without an answer, spent five minutes on hold before hanging up. Called the following week, same response. Finally I contacted the frame manufacturer directly. The response was: «I won’t say why but, we’re no longer doing business with For Your Eyes Only» — I’m guessing they haven’t paid their bill.
Why not tell me the glasses are unavailable? Why was I allowed to place an order for unavailable glasses? I wasted a month waiting on For Your Eyes Only, I wouldn’t give them a moment (or dime) more.

The 3 stars are an average of a 5-​star exam experience, and a 0-​star check in and wait time experience.
After waiting 10 days for my appointment on a Thursday morning, I arrived on time, immediately checked in with the front desk to let them know I was there, and went out to pay the «Pay To Park» meter — which couldn’t read my credit card, so had to drive around looking for a side street with an empty space. When I returned 10 minutes later, found that a mother with four children to be examined were now ahead of me. There were two patients already being seen ahead of her, so the likelihood of having my exam completed by noon in time for me to go to work seemed almost impossible. When I asked the front desk person about this, I was told with some «attitude» that it was up to me … stay or go, no guarantees. Since I’d already waited 10 days, and had then lost my appointment to a walk-​in, this was a problem.
RECOMMENDATION: park on a side street and get there at least 15 minutes ahead of your appointment time to complete paperwork without having your time slot given away.
Just before 11:30, I was seen by the optometrist, who was very professional and thorough. She understood my concerns about a medical condition that could affect my vision, did some additional tests and reassured me.

This is my first time here. I’ll try to update after I am done but I can say that I came in at 10:20am today (Saturday) for my 10:30am appointment and they were crowded. Not overbearingly crowded, but too crowded for my own comfort. I came with my mom and there were no seats for us to sit in. buy there’s only six seats against the wall anyway, and two at the desks where you sit and take care of insurance, paperwork, etc. The office is a cute shotgun style, which is typical on Magazine St. The ladies who were here this morning was pleasant and extremely helpful. I had a little issue with some insurance information, and the lady was very helpful and patient until we got it all taken care of. While waiting for my turn, I noticed they didn’t have a wide variety of glasses and designers to choose from, but they had typical designers like Guess, Dolce & Gabana, RayBan, Harley Davidson, just to name a few.
It is now 10:50am, and I am waiting to complete my eye exam. I’ll have an update upon conclusion of the eye exam and overall experience… After I completed my paperwork, the assistant had a handheld machine that «read» my eyes. She had me look into the machine at a red dot for 3 – 5 seconds for both eyes and in the end, something printed out a machine. It looked like a receipt with for my vision :) I know that sounds kind of crazy, and I will get the exact terminology when I go back in two week to pick up my glasses.
11:15ish: I am finally called to the back to meet with the doctor, she is young and very pleasant. She explained everything that she was doing as she was doing it, so I didn’t have any questions. When she checked for glaucoma, we had small talk about the Saints while she was dropping the drops in my eyes to take my m ind off the fact that it was going to burn a little – it worked, I didn’t even notice the stinging. She determined that I was nearsighted and she will be ordering the lenses for my current pair of glasses because the lenses I have now are too weak. She is AMAZING!
Overall, I had a WONDERFUL experience at For Your Eyes Only 2020 and I can’t wait to go back! If you are in the area and need to drop in, they’re okay with that too if they have openings. They are open on Saturdays (obviously) from like 9am-​12pm so get in there while you can, you won’t be disappointed!

Prices– affordable. I was pleasantly surprised
Variety of merchendise: poor– there were about 5 panels of glasses, not all are full. In most such places there might be 2 – 3 times as many frames available.
Efficiency– disappointing. I have visited twice– first visit and follow up. The first visit the staff was friendly and gracious, although I waited over 30 minutes past my appt time to be assisted. The second visit, the staff was a bit less friendly and I waited a full 55 minutes to be seen after my scheduled appt time. I had a very full and carefully scheduled day of errands and, after 50 minutes I told the receptionist that my appointment time was 50 minutes ago and I asked her if I should re-​schedule as I was running out of time. She did not enjoy that question and flatly told me that I was next with no apology or empathy.
It took about 10 days to get my glasses in, which is a few days longer compared to other eye care providers I have dealth with, although this was not the end of the world, just slightly irritating.
Optometrists: Both optometrists I met with were friendly and professional. THe optometrist displayed an honest desire to get me the best contact lenses for my situation and offered options; I appreciated this concern for my well-​being. On the second visit, I asked the doctor if I could provide feedback and told her that I was unhappy for the 55 minute wait after my scheduled appointment time. She thanked me for the feedback and that was that.
Overall: If not for the low prices for frames, I would have given it one star, but I understand that the slimmer the profit margins the lower the quality of service. I feel that the delays in both my visits is truly unexcusable. They choose to schedule more patients than they can honestly see on schedule. It seems like their eyes are bigger than their stomachs when it comes to pulling in customers, and this had a negative impact on my experience.

They really are for my eyes only!!! The staff is super friendly… the doctor is just as friendly. We were all laughing by the time I left. I got frames, lenses, and contacts, less than the price it cost me for an exam and lenses (i had my own frames) somewhere else. Try it, you’ll like it…

I really like this place. It’s very small and blends into the other storefronts on Magazine by Napoleon (it’s next door to Armoire), and inside is a tiny but well functioning optometrist’s office. I’ve gone twice, for both contacts and glasses appointments, and it’s been smooth and efficient every time.
I’ve never had an appointment, just called and then walked in with almost no wait at all. It’s a long building, shotgun status, with frames mounted on the wall as you enter, then a small waiting area (that also acts as a lobby, reception, and cashier), then the exam area in the back, which is split into 2 offices. It all looks very clean and modern in that Ikea way, with bright blue walls and silver finishings.
Something I find amazing: After you fill out the clipboard with your forms and whatnot, the same assistant will use a mobile HANDHELD machine to look into your eyes, make the puff of air, take the picture… I don’t know what it does, but usually it’s huge and you fit your chin on it and stare at a green dot? Sooo high tech. THE FUTURE.
I’ve been examined by both doctors and both were very professional, polite, made calm small talk while dripping numbing potions into my eye, and very FAST. This is important to me because the most hated part of my optometrist in Los Angeles is that any appointment (made weeks ahead), inevitably takes over 2 hours with lots of waiting and doctors disappearing from the room leaving you alone in the cold raised chair.
The prices aren’t high. I think my non-​insurance covered contacts visit was less than $ 50 for the exam, and they take almost every insurance, including Medicaid and Medical. I see people from all walks of life when I come by, from kids to the elderly to hipsters. Friends have taken my recommendation and come by for their glasses and also had pleasant experiences.
They have weird hours, like I think they are closed one day a week and only open until 2pm on Fridays, but they are open Saturdays from 9am-​12pm and that’s when I’ve been able to come by, every time.
