History

Established in 2000.

Mr. LaFonta graduated from Southern University Law Center. In the year 2000, he earned his Jurisprudence Doctorate title. In 2002, Mr. LaFonta opened his law firm, Juan A. LaFonta and Associates, L.L.C. As a matter of fact, the first year of practice, Mr. LaFonta had prosecuted approximately a million dollars, between the years 2002 – 2003. Juan A. LaFonta and Associates, has represented hundreds of clients in serious personal injury cases involving; automobile accidents, 18 wheeler accidents, truck, motorcycle, boat, hit and run, pedestrian, bicycle, head/​brain injuries, wrongful death, and medical malpractice. Mr. LaFonta is heavily involved in ongoing committees. He was involved within politics and stepped down from the legislature to focus more on community, community outreach and work more with kids. While being a Representative for District 96, he still maintained a very successful law firm.

Mr. Juan LaFonta’s roots in his community run deep. Juan is the second child of George LaFonta, a bricklayer and Joanne Bagneris LaFonta, a public school teacher. After graduating from Brother Martin High School he went to the University of New Orleans. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of New Orleans before acquiring his law degree from Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Juan was elected to represent the people of District 96 including the Bywater, Treme, Gentilly, the French Quarter and Faubourg Marigny — in a special election. He was reelected in 2007 without opposition, and was the first freshman legislator ever elected Chairman of the Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus, a position he held until July 2008. He was lead negotiator for over 1.2 billion dollars in recovery project monies to the City of New Orleans.
