The lady gave me a ticket for parking in the freight zone of the business i own! then leaves a huge pile of trash in the street. city employees should not be allowed to litter the city they work for.

I was driving to work on Magazine street between Washington and Louisiana. A car in front of me made a left turn while a mater maid was in the crosswalk. The maid made eye contact with the driver, who had stopped (and held up traffic) to wait for her to cross, and literally SLOWED DOWN and took almost a minute to cross the street JUST SO WE’D ALL HAVE TO WAIT. why in the hell does the city hire these idiots with such a crappy mentality??? these idiots with their sense of entitlement make me SICK!

I caught officer D. Yarber writing a citation for my vehicle before my parking tag was expired. One shady star for one shady parking cop.

Only one because I can not give none, I live on a street that is not very traveled and parked on the wrong side of the road for a few minutes to unload my car, came back to car with ticket, last night there was a car parked in the same spot, when I left today it was still there with no ticket. New Orleans streets in Mid City are worse than any third world nation, what are they doing with all the ticket money?

You towed my wife’s vehicle while she was in school because she was parked 10 feet from a stop sign. As soon as she was towed, several cars took the vacant spot and they remained there the rest of the day. I know there is nothing I can do about it but I think that this could have been a situation that a ticket was issued instead???
There are many bad words I could use but I won’t. $ 190 later and I am still amazed that this city is more concerned with the parking violations instead of the murders and muggings in the french quarter. I guess the parking violations make the city more money right?

A city without parking regulations would be pure chaos. That being said; this organization is horrible.
Unnecessary regulations, overzealous enforcement and angry employees make the parking division one of my least favorite city departments.
There are numerous ordinances that should not be enforced during certain times of the year. A prime example is the prohibition against parking on the neutral ground. Sure, I understand why that’s a law, but to enforce it when people are concerned with their car flooding is ridiculous. It’s also ridiculous to enforce when the KDV parade is going on and there is no place to park. Making matters worse is when they issue everyone tickets one year and no one tickets the next. How about even handed justice?
I am sure they have some hard working, good employees, but the majority I have encountered have been rude and arrogant. Here are a few examples:
I used to visit the Amoco building years ago. Parking was never an issue until parking enforcement moved into the building. That’s when I started to notice all of their enforcement, and personal vehicles taking all of the legal and illegal spots. They would park far longer than the maximum time frame, and not pay the meter either. I decided to ask one about their open disregard of the regulations they enforced and I was met with words too vulgar to print here.
One day I was working in Algiers and watched two meter maids exit the ferry. I thought maybe they had come to eat at the dry dock, but no. They had come to write as many citations as humanly possible. When they wrote a ticket to a legally parked vehicle, I asked them why and was met with similar vulgarity as the prior encounter. I realize these people must often deal with degenerate people, but there’s no reason that expletives should be spewed immediately.
Another compliant I have is the difficulty in fighting a ticket. No one I know has ever been successful and the one hearing I witnessed was ridiculous. The hearing officer was rude and condescending when the violation involved an area that was not properly signed. It’s almost as if paying the ticket is easier and less painful than fighting it.
I do believe this group serves a valid purpose. I just think they could be a tad more sensitive to the citizens who they serve.

I hate the city of New Orleans and their parking tickets. That is all! Someone has a fat pocketbook and it isn’t the City of New Orleans! Hmmmmm.
I frequent the Downtown Medical District where tickets and tows are rampantly served yet, the streets are caving in and the potholes could swallow firetrucks and ambulances. Why aren’t some of these parking monies being utilized to keep our medical district roadways safer? Public Works can invest in purchasing many costly new tow trucks and invest in vehicles with equipment that quickly scan many license plates at a time (to see who has unpaid tickets so that they can apprehend them) but they can’t fix the roads that we are being ticketed on? That does not seem like an equitable system.
Pure disgust.
Edit 2÷12÷14 — I was ticketed on another broken meter by S. Williams on Tulane Avenue. Sadly, another feeble older couple was ticketed on the same broken meter at the same time. I am relatively young and I am always ready to defend myself! Yet, this poor older couple (one of them with a walker) were coming out of Tulane Hospital and they will now have to fight the same battle I am fighting: WE WERE TICKETED ON A BROKEN METER! How can a meter maid legally ticket someone on a broken meter? She could see that it was Out of Order so, how can you ticket them?
658‑8200 is the automated line with no option to speak to someone.
658‑8250 is the number listed in the FAQ on the webpage as the Administrative Hearing Center yet NO ONE answers the phone and there is no way to leave a message therefore, you can not speak with anyone regarding your parking ticket.
I want to know how I am able to speak with someone.

I visited the parking division today to contest a ticket and I won because the meter was broken. I had several questions so I spoke with a supervisor. She was a very nice woman but I highly doubt there will be any resolve.
Questions such as:
* Why are the meter maids allowed to ticket vehicles on a meter that is not functional? — She responded that if the meter was broken that I should «Pay to park via phone». How’s that for convenience? How about they just fix the broken meters! What a novel idea.
*I asked the lady at the front desk why no one answered 658‑8250 which is the administrative hearing office phone number. She replied, «She’s out of the office.» I said, «Wow, For 15 days in a row.» Now that’s a hell of a sabbatical/​vacation!
*I asked this same question to the supervisor and she suggested I call dispatch at 658‑8100. She even called the number to prove that it was functional which was nice but, why isn’t it listed on the website???
New Orleans Parking Division has made it such that no one will respond to you and people get to the point where rather than deal with it, they just pay it. I find this tactic to be hideous. I believe that ticketing is imperative to keep people from doing whatever they want but it needs to be a fair ticketing system or people get very angry.
On a separate parking division issue: Yesterday on 2÷27÷14 at 4:21pm, I was crossing Lasalle St. on Tulane Avenue and a tow truck driver nearly mowed me over all because he had a car in tow. He was going the WRONG WAY DOWN LASALLE! Cars that were on Lasalle crossing Tulane actually had to pull over as if they were moving for an ambulance! I had no idea that City of New Orleans Tow trucks were allowed to act as emergency vehicles! I called the impound and demanded to know if they had the authority to act as emergency vehicles and you know what number she gave me, 658‑8200 — THE PARKING DIVISION ADMINISTRATIVE HEARING PHONE NUMBER THAT NO ONE ANSWERS!
It is absolutely astonishing that they expect citizens to follow the law but they are so LAWLESS. Pot calling the kettle black much? Utter disgust. Go pick on the able people parking in handicap spots and in front of hydrants instead of regular citizens who shouldn’t have to fight battles because they were ticketed on a broken meter. In all fairness, they owe me for having to take time out of my day for this hoopla. Sorry for the novel sized review.
