This weekend marked the first time I’d ever been to Publiq House despite having heard about it quite often in the past few years. Yet in one big weekend, I was there two nights in a row for 2 separate private events.
Since I’ve only been there for private parties, I can’t say anything about the «typical crowd or typical service level», but as an event venue, this meeting planner can give it high marks.
The venue is a good size –without feeling cavernous. There’s a large stage and a nice big dance floor. The huge L-​shaped bar can handle a whole lot of customers and the events I attended were well staffed making service pretty quick for the crowd inside.
It was a cold weekend so I didn’t make it out to the deck just off the side door but several of my smoking friends made it out there and that is a nice touch to have a deck available for fresh air and not just having people huddled around the front door.
The bathrooms are large and very well maintained– which is so important when looking for event venues for private parties. Also, the ample available parking is a a major plus to us meeting planners. As a meeting planner, I can recommend this place for large events and as a patron, I would come back to see this place in action as a regular live music venue. I’m sure it’s an excellent place to see a show.

Great spot! Always friendly service. Wonderful set up. Have a ton of different taps to chose from. One of my favorites. Only reason I don’t give them a 5 star is because of the ordinance that they close early. Really can’t fault them for that but, it is a downer.

Great spot for live music or trivia on Tuesdays. The décor is awesome and the cent is bigger than you would initially expect. Bar is reasonably priced and never had a rude bartender there. Emily was my bartender last time and she was awesome!

5 dollar cover on Thursdays. Ride with Nola Social Ride get in for free and enjoy some local brass bands.

I had my first visit here this last weekend for the Mermaids and Mayhem ball (a costume party, I was a nun for the church of the gnome) and it was a blast. I am so thankful that I won a pair of tickets, so I dragged the guy with me. There were televisions playing the LSU game, and a baseball game. There was a DJ, but a nice dance floor and a stage for live options. I liked seeing their schedule on the wall of upcoming events.
The drinks were strong, it would have been cool to see the mason jars, but this place was PACKED! There was a food truck outside. The smoking deck was cool. The bathrooms are pretty cool. Parking was a breeze.
I am glad that I do not live closer, as I believe that this could be a bad habit for me, but I do look forward to coming back.

This is a pretty nice, unpretentious, local hangout in the Garden District. The bathrooms are clean, service is prompt and friendly.
The décor is pretty cool. Lots of old chandeliers and old shutters give it a very «hey! i’m at a bar in nola!» vibe.
Tuesday nights they have Geeks who Drink Trivia, which is always fun.
They also have a stage… not sure if they have a lot of concerts, but I know they do standup.
Really a fun place to go :)

Nice, spacious layout, with high ceilings and room to run and dig. This is not a dive bar, maybe a «high-​dive» bar, a thing which I may have just made up. The trivia nights on Tuesdays are pretty good, if a tad long.

Excellent beer selection with THE best and friendliest bartenders and management. Check out the Brassaholics every Thursday night for some good jazz/​rock/​funk with some of the best musicians in the New Orleans area. Great for private parties as well and check their calendar for great comedic acts and live bands.

Publiq House has a nice versatility to it — it can feel like a performance space, a neighborhood bar (albeit a rather large one), or a classy event space depending on what’s going on. The drinks are solid, nothing spectacular, but the bartenders are very friendly, which helps with the neighborhood bar feeling.
I mostly come here for trivia on Tuesday nights, which is through Geeks Who Drink. It’s one of the better trivia nights I’ve been to in New Orleans, and there are several opportunities to win free beer throughout the night.
PH sells Zapp’s, but no other food, so they’re cool with you bringing food in from elsewhere.
Perhaps most importantly for me, you can bring your dog inside!

Great beer menu but cover can be a bit pricey due to consistent band bookings. This place is full of college students and such– a place you stand up at a high top and watch the band, making it a bit challenging to chat with friends. Definitely a great re-​do and addition to the hood but the cover makes it inhibitive to just stop by for a bit after visiting a Freret restaurant or other bar.

There is something so comfortable about walking into a bar where everyone knows your name, and it gets even better when they also know what drink you order and they make sure it’s in stock.
That’s the service you get at Publiq House.
The Muff-​a-​lottas dance troupe has been meeting here every week for the last year and it’s our best meeting place. The drinks are affordable and varied, they have about a billion beers on tap and even more in the cooler. The bartenders are as mentioned, wonderful!
There is a HUGE dance floor which accommodates our large troupe nicely, but also doubles as a great spot to watch live music. Often, there’s no cover for the weekend bands. They also have plenty of TVs to watch the Saints or LSU.
They don’t serve food, but sometimes they have food trucks outside. Or, you can go grab food from any of the nearby restaurants and bring it in.
The bathrooms in the back, behind the stage, are particularly cool. There’s a lot of recycled wood and other things throughout the bar. Really sweet spot for some good times! (OH and there’s free parking too!!)

This place is great! The space and the atmosphere are fun, plenty of room to walk around even when it’s crowded. I recently went there for a wrap party for a show.
Donny was one of the guys who took care of us. If I ever have a party this guy needs to be in charge of the food. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING! The bartenders were awesome, Craig is unbelievably cool and took great care of us all night.
The only reason I’m not giving this five stars is a bit petty but should be noted, the door child was a real d-​bag. I think his name is Carson (not 100% on that). My friend and I both noticed that he had a really bad attitude and was just an all around a-​hole.
Working in clubs for many years I know that the door people can set the tone for the establishment. It’s always best to have somebody at the door who is warm and personable but can handle difficult situations should they arise. This person, was neither of those.
Back to the main point. This place is awesome, if you want to have a good time, if you need to find a place to have a private party I would highly recommend checking out Publiq House.

After my 2^nd trip for 2x different reasons (neither for music), I have to say I enjoyed both of my experiences here. The cocktails are awesome and the bartenders (if not crazy busy) will really take the time to explain everything. I personally kinda like the mason jars and don’t understand why people bag on them so much. It matches the rest of the their vibe.
Mostly, and why I’m sure I’ll be back in the near future, is that they are dog friendly! My pooch was crazy happy with all the attention from friends at our last visit. The outdoor seating area also provides a nice respite from the atmosphere inside. Another pro-​tip: you can bring your own snacks in if you ask in advance for an event.
Overall, great vibe for a chill local place that has a great selections of drinks to help you and your friends enjoy your evening. ps, they have a wonderful happy hour too!

After coughing up 20 bucks to see Tab Benoit and Big Chief Boudreaux the other night, I settled into Publiq House and decided it’s a great to place to see a show…
It was hard for me at first to grant a fourth star because… $ 20?! In the end, no matter how many cool repurposed wooden shutters and old window frames that decorate every inch of the space, you’re there for music first and foremost, and why is that cover so high? Ok, Ok, Grammy-​nominated artist. I get it. Grumble Grumble. And to be fair, I just looked up other shows and find them mainly in the $ 15 high end, $ 5 low *and* there’s an all night HH on Mondays. Ladies night on Wednesdays. I can get behind all of this. Four stars it is.
Props to the wall of frozen drink machines that will be nice come warmer temps. Also, that side patio. And no smoking policy.
I do prefer DBA for live local music (and living walking distance away is a big plus, I can’t lie nor deny), but Publiq House is definitely on my list for being worth the drive Uptown.

This is a pretty good place to be. It’s set in what looks like an old dry goods store or something and has a really pretty wraparound bar and a neat décor involving old shutters and the occasional school desk.
They have over a dozen beers on tap with a rotation selection based on season and availability but the selection runs from the standard swill to microbrews from Louisiana and beyond. The beer is served in pint mason jars instead of pint glasses which I think is just trying a little too hard to be cute.
Plenty of table and bar seating is available though the place can get a bit crowded when there’s a band on the stage out front. When there isn’t a band the house music they play isn’t loud enough to drown out conversation which is always nice.
Food trucks do set up shop out front for those who are looking for convenient food; Frencheeze on Friday nights after 10:30 I know is pretty regular.
You’re on your own for parking. There aren’t really any lots to be had and if they are, they aren’t labeled. Just take your chances finding a place on the street.

Publiq House is my Pinterest DIY board’s cooler older brother who will buy you booze. It’s decked out in secondhand chandeliers, a vintage truck to house their sound area, paper bags to hold your import beer and miniature mason jars for my surfer on acid shot.
Having an Uptown alternative to Tip’s that can give me great bands and the wide berth needed to do «the sprinkler» and «the running man» dance moves is great along with the fact that I won’t get singed by anyone’s cigarette (no smoking). No fret though, they also have a great patio for my smoker buddies to enjoy and talk about my awful dance moves.
My only frets are when it gets crazy, they put away some of the fun novelty items (so long paper bags and baby mason jars) for plastic cups and hard-​to-​reach bartenders. If they just added one more bartender (as is my wish at any bar), I’d feel like they’d be able to manage the crowd better.
Lastly, I will say with all the upcycling, I was sure that when my friend fist-​pumped my drink into my new dress, there would absolutely be one of those hand dryers in the bathroom that would evaporate the Crown and Diet right off of me… Alas, I only had paper towels to dab away my sorrows. Publiq House, if you can hear me, scoop up one of those Dyson hand dryers to match your environmentally friendly ways. No one takes a girl seriously with a stain on her dress…
I will definitely be heading back to Publiq House, and am looking to try out one of their weekly events. Will check back then with a review of Nerd Trivia or Bar Bingo!

As soon as I walked into this bar, I felt like they were trying really hard to be hipster without being so hipster as to alienate certain clientele (like, uh, me). But this place grew on me.
First, I totally appreciate it is smoke free. I get to go home without smelling like an ashtray! There is a nice patio for smoking though.
Next, reasonable prices for a classier-​than-​I-​usually-​go-​to bar. Lights bright enough that I can see people? No Schlitz? Space to move around? Live music? This place is about as fancy as I can handle. That means «casual» for normal people.
Friendly service, though not as quick as I would like. I definitely stood at the bar and was passed up several times in favor of *cuter* girls, but maybe I was just too busy watching the game on the well-​placed flat-​screens above the bar. Most girls don’t get distracted by these types of things. Damnit dad, why did you have to make me love sports?
Live music! I went on a Thursday for a Brass-​a-​Holics show (check them out, they’re so fun!) and the crowd was not really a dancing one, I still had an excellent time. I ran into a friend (and made some new ones) and we had no qualms about being the only ones dancing on that big dance floor.
Overall a great experience! I hope to come back here soon and often, check out their booze selection a little more thoroughly, and maybe on a more crowded night to see how the vibe is. Highly recommended if you’re in the Uptown area.

Located on the very popular Freret Street, Publiq House is an interesting place.
I first learned of Publiq House from fellow Unilocalers. While I really like the Freret area, I always seem to focus my nights out in other areas. Freret has become significantly more upscale since my days of hanging at the Sitting Duck, and Publiq House fits that new mold very well.
One one visit I spoke with the owner/​manager and he told me that the space was once a neighborhood grocery store. From the looks of it I had assumed it was an old theater, but either way, it has a cool old vibe while being completely modern inside.
I have yet to see a show there, but the stage area looked nice. It is set on the side of the venue so if you weren’t into the band you cold hang out in the front of the bar in relative peace.
Drink selection was very good. Their beer menu is fairly extensive, and drafts are served in mason type jars. Bottled beers are served in a paper bag. Another nice touch is that they offer free popcorn, which goes nicely with your beer.
I am a fan of Publiq House and recommend you check it out.
