I’ve never had vegan Louisiana style food before and Omg– I’m not even vegetarian/​vegan and I loved the gumbo. Cocktails were also bonus. I will definitely go back here next time I’m in NOLA!

Hands down the best vegan menu/​food I’ve had, eggplant poboy, crispy, thin eggplant yum! And artichoke, hearts of palm cakes I couldn’t leave without trying them. A fabulous vegan experience. Didn’t have room for dessert but I would imagine just as good as everything else

Seed is another healthy food haven for plant based diet folks like me in a city better known for its rich & fried foods. From the décor to the menu, this place is super hip, yet welcoming. I thoroughly enjoyed the gumbo with seitan and the zucchini salad. Both dishes were absolutely amazing because of the wonderful flavor mixtures & the freshness of the food. The server was super attentive & friendly, which I always appreciate. I couldn’t leave this joint without trying the beignets and I’m glad I indulged. They were super delicious! For vegetarians/​vegans or meat eaters who want a break from heavy fried foods, this is the place to go to fill your belly with nutritious AND delicious foods.

I’m soooo disappointed that I food this restaurant towards the end of my trip. I’m no where near being a vegetarian but I stopped by because their salads looked amazing and quite honestly, it taste even better then what they look like. New Orlean’s dishes are delicious but extremely heavy, causing havoc on my stomach. Well, I guess for the next 4 days, I’ve found a place to have lunch. Delicious, filling and nourishing.
The atmosphere is relaxed and very nice. The service is also excellent and very relaxed.

This place was so good. The po boys were great. We had to sit outside across the street because we were traveling with our dogs and the sweet bartender ran out food out to us. I wish I had caught his name.
Also tried the beignets (when I’m New Orleans). They were super good. Can’t wait to be back in New Orleans to come here again.

I’ve been Unilocal stalking this place for a long time and decided to come here for my birthday dinner. The atmosphere is really fresh and inviting.
The boyfriend (a meat eater) wanted to try the nuggets for an appetizer. We got them with the garlic aioli. They were really good. Had a god texture to them, which was nice. I ordered the pad thai and it did not disappoint. Wasn’t exactly the flavors I expected from the description… it was less chili-​almond-​buttery than I expected but it still had great flavor. The boyfriend got the BBQ sandwich and I must say, I had dish envy. The flavor (and texture) of this sandwich was amazing. Even the boyfriend was blown away.
We were also checking out what people ordered around us… the nachos and the crab cakes looked really good and we will probably try that next time. I also heard that their artichoke cakes are so amazing that they sell out.
One downfall… the service. Our waiter wasn’t very attentive. He didn’t come and ask how our food was and then we waited about 30 minutes for the check. We eventually had to walk up to him to ask for the check because we couldn’t wait any longer. The other waitress there, however, was very involved with her tables.

Breastfeeding mommas that can’t tolerate dairy or soy looking for a filling meal please come here! As a nursing mother to a teething toddler, the portions for the sandwiches and soups are big enough to share with my son and still have enough left for me! The staff are stoic and don’t take to questions very well. But on the flip side, you can distance yourselves from them in the open atmosphere provided with the big windows and affirming quotes above the door frames.

So perfect in every way.

Seed is fantastic! I had the southern fried poboy and the beignets and they were delicious. You can’t travel to New Orleans and not eat beignets and poboys, right? The decorations were lovely and the wait staff was super friendly. I highly recommend for anyone looking for plant based Louisiana food.

The food here is good. I’ve tried the eggplant and southern fried tofu poboys. I’ll reluctantly return to get the tofu one when I’m in the neighborhood because it is utterly delicious. But I won’t be seeking out this place.
Seed is overpriced, yes, but my problem lies with the staff. I’ve been here three times and it’s always taken an oddly long amount of time to be greeted and seated (or given my takeout). It’s like they see you but just don’t want to be bothered. Speaking of, I asked a girl for Ketchup to-​go with my poboy and she seemed so upset that I wanted it that I nearly apologized. Nearly. You can’t serve up New Orleans style food with a frown, Seed. It’s illegal. Work on that.

In my pre-​travel search for vegan options in New Orleans — I was pretty excited to see Seed had vegan beignets. I went within a few days of arriving and returned several times — including one Wednesday during a downpour that drenched me to the skin — staff were very kind and provided me with clean, dry kitchen towels to dry myself and sit on so I could wait out the storm and eat my meal in more comfort.
The service is pretty good — folks are friendly, they are also busy but they do check in on patrons to inquire about how they like the food and whether they have other needs.
The food is fantastic — the vegan beignets are delicious! The BBQ tofu sandwich was a delight — and the fresh juices/​mimosas are superb. My most favorite item were the artichoke patties — these were incredibly tasty, great texture and flavor. Awesome food! Highly recommend to everyone visiting NOLA, vegan or not!

Very vegan, like 100%. So, if you’re looking for vegan, you’ll be here if you’re in NoLa. What else needs to be said? So much more! I am giving it 5 stars because it is NoLa. For other more vegan-​friendly cities, I think it would be a 4 because of competition, but there is really no other place like Seed in NoLa. It is diverse in the menu offerings and though plant-​based, everyone can find something.
They categorize their cuisine as «garden based.» So hip! They label the menu items as gluten free, raw and/​or soy-​free. Makes life so much easier. So cool!
Something like dessert — cakes and ice cream, ok. I am in! Raw dessert, too — though not everything is raw, it is clear they address the spectrum of vegan palates. Sweet! Literally!
I love the juice bar, though, really — the juice is pressed to order. What more could you ask for? They have a great selection of standards — beet based, greens based (super 8) and a morning juice (grapefruit) and a lemonade. Ok, but what is really cool is the juice bar is a bar, too — they add alcohol to some. Very hip! If smoothies are your thing — great choices here, because who doesn’t love a smoothie with almond milk or fruit or both?
Great vegan eateries can be measured by their juices, yes, but also, their nachos. Here is no exception. The cashew queso and the beautiful array of flavors and textures on the nachos — heavenly.
Too many great salads to choose from, and to make it worse, you can make your own salad. I already wanted one of everything, so that was kind of mean. Because, I wanted to make my own, too!
For those on the more comfortable side of eating… you have the vegan takes on poboys and grilled cheese. They have beignets — vegan! There are also of course raw entrees — classic zucchini based noodles, yum!
The staff is nice. The parking isn’t bad. It’s not in the most obvious location or a high foot traffic area, from what I could tell. It’s worth it though, to trek over here from wherever you are in NoLa. You may need to wait, though. If you eat at the bar, you will probably not need to wait, or have a much shorter wait.
Loved this place, and I just wish I could have one of these closer to home!

Any place that dedicates their restaurant to vegan food is great, but Seed isn’t perfect. My meal was off to a good start with the gumbo with the spicy seitan. It was flavorful and distinctly Southern. My main course of the BBQ sandwich with a side of mac & cheese was more confusing. The BBQ sandwich was so very small! Maybe I wouldn’t have minded the english-​muffin sized bun topped with about 1.5 oz of filling if I weren’t sitting next to someone who ordered the poboy which appeared to be half a baguette topped with 8 oz of fried tofu. We’ve got to have some portion consistency people, I don’t want to walk away hungry while my companion is stuffed to the gills.
On to the mac & cheese — it was okay. I wish there was more crunch from the breadcrumbs, and I just prefer elbow noodles to shells. I drowned it in sriracha and it was then quite good.
To finish my meal I had a mango lassi for the road. I didn’t taste much in the way of mango but it was pretty delicious.
All in all — I definitely recommend this place, it’s pretty affordable and the food quality is good. Maybe ask your server for advice on portion sizes!

This was our very last stop on our last day in New Orleans. Boy, am I glad we braved the pouring rain to stop in. The food was amazing! We each had the vegan gumbo which was perfect for such a chilly, wet day. The heat was just the right amount. We also shared the artichoke cakes. They were creamy, yet crisp on the outside and we loved every bite. Eli was fantastic! The next time I’m in New Orleans, this will be my first stop.

What??? Vegan restaurant in New Orleans?
Are you sure this is vegan? A question I asked throughout my meal. My gumbo and po boy So delicious and full of flavor I needed to be reassured frequently that the food was of vegan ingredients.
The Bloody Mary was the perfect touch to a perfect meal.
Candice, our server, was professional, attentive, patient, and cheerful.
Finally I can say that I ate gumbo and po boy AND enjoyed it.
Don’t miss this opportunity of experiencing a flavorful full vegan meal.

TLDR; Vegan in New Orleans? Get your butt in a taxi and eat here immediately. Or, take the walk /​bike-​ride from the French Quarter. It’s worth it and only about two miles.
Finding cruelty-​free creole food has proved itself to be challenging from my previous business trips to New Orleans which has been such a shame since it’s one of my favourite kinds of food. Came here today and was really impressed. I had the southern-​fried poboy and gumbo with the spicy seitan.
Poboy: Delicious. Omfg, some of the best fried tofu I have had in a minute. Good value since you get such an enormous sandwich with a ton of piece of that delicious tofu but I wish it was dressed a little more interestingly. There was too little lettuce and too little mayonnaise and it could have gone from tasty to life-​changing with a vegan remoulade sauce but maybe I am being too picky. Came with a side of kale salad.
Gumbo: Just as good. Even better, perhaps? Totally satisfied my craving for authentic creole /​cajun food. Spicy without being overpowering. Damn near perfection. $ 2.00 for the seitan was a rip-​off, though. They gave me like three tiny chunks.

I’m a vegan at a bachelor party in New Orleans listening to my friends talk about po’boys and beignets. I was so jealous. Good thing I bookmarked Seed on Unilocal before my trip. Also good that it’s near the World War II Museum.
I was able to enjoy both at Seed. The tofu po’boy is one of the best sandwiches I have every had. I asked for beignets with a small amount of powdered sugar. That stuff winds up all over your clothing! They were a little bland tasting. I was happy with their lack of grease and their perfect light and fluffy texture. My wife says I found their taste bland because I asked for less powdered sugar than they normally put on them.
Seed is also great because it is clearly a place for locals, not tourists. The staff was very friendly but I could tell I was probably the first person their with a bag from the World War II Museum gift shop in quite a while.
Vegans visiting New Orleans, Seed is a must!

Vegan/​Vegetarian Heaven! I was with a group of people that enjoy this type of restaurant. We all categorize ourselves a little differently. One doesn’t eat meat, One eats seafood, but no beef, chicken, pork and the other is completely vegan. So we were all thrilled to find this gem. Seed has a great menu too. We started off with appetizers which was the Southern Fried Nuggets and Mac& Cheese. Both amazing. My friends ordered Southern Fried Nuggets to-​go. Next, we checked out the main dishes which were Gumbo, Eggplant Poboy, Phở. Again, great choices. Luckily, we don’t mind sharing with one another, so I tried a least a bite of everything. They had a great menu of juices and shakes and we took advantage. I had the Pineapple Ginger shake and my friend had the Strawberry Shake. No meal is complete with dessert right? Well, we finished in true New Orleans style with Beignets. I heard they were great! I didn’t partake. I was stuffed.
The staff was great and very knowledgeable. The restaurant was beautiful with great light. The décor was light and bright also. This was an A+ dining experience. I can’t wait to visit again.

This is good vegan, and I suppose if you’re in the South any vegetarian/​vegan cuisine is something of an epiphany, so I can understand the plethora of 4 to 5-​star rankings, however, I wasn’t blown away.
The space is very cool, from the lighting, the green décor, and the hip music, however, right away the service is spotty. There isn’t a maitre-​d’ per se, so there’s an awkward dance where people wonder if they can sit where they like, until the head server directs them to a table.
The service from then on is slow, and laughably amateur.
On the positive side, the menu is very fresh and vibrant, and there’s a good mix of «comfort» foods (think fried) and healthier fare. They do a good job with sauces, and most of the ingredients are fresh, although I found the veggies somewhat standard. I did enjoy their grilled tofu more than usual.
The problem is there is a lot of high-​end cuisine in New Orleans, and Seed is sort of like going to Whole Foods but ordering from a creative menu. It’s «a-​okay» but not a wow.

Like all my reviews, I base them off of what they are trying to be, not based on what my expectations are. I say this because if you are coming here expecting the food to taste like typical unhealthy versions of New Orleans food, you may be disappointed. In my experience with healthy eating, it takes some adjusting before your taste buds really appreciate the food, if you are new to it. This place is truly attempting to cook vegan versions of typical New Orleans dishes, and they are doing a better job at it than most places.
I thought this place did a really good job of preparing the food. The gumbo didn’t taste like true gumbo and the chili didn’t taste like the chili most are used to, but they were great healthy alternatives. Presentation was great, and the service was quick.
I really enjoyed the Eggplant Pomodoro. My fiancée got the Roasted Carrot and Avocado Salad. It was really good as well.
The restaurant is clean and bright. Definitely a good spot for Vegan food.
