Sir Speedy New Orleans

I had a hi-​res photo to print. It was a unique format, but together we worked through the math, arrived at a unique (close to) 16:9 format of a picture almost 50 years old. The resulting print was over 3 feet long so I would consider this a large print. I was extremely pleased with the result. Sorry some folks had issues, but I had none.

DO NOT SEND IMPORTANT FILES THEIR WAY.
Simple Task:
Sent a PDF that contains 12 pages. Ask them to make one full print run. (1 print per page). Mention that it was done but for some reason shrink wrapped them. Didn’t think someone would fuck this one up. I guess I was wrong. They printed the first page 12 times… If anyone in the printing industry opens a PDF (I hope through Acrobat). You see multiple pages. Why print only the first page? Stupid. Prints were ok but they argued me that I didnt set the file to the sizes I mentioned. Just a heads up, I was the Art Director for the following magazines in NY. Forbes, Popular Science, Popular Photography, UFC and Discovery Kids. I think I know what I’m doing.

Bad at printing big posters
I called ~8:30 am to see how I’d go about having a big poster (about 42″ x 58″) printed. The guy told me to email them with the file, so later that day around noon, I emailed the file and instructions. I didn’t hear back to confirm my order, so I had to call in. That guy who picked up couldn’t hear me well, so the call went really slowly, and it took 3 – 4 tries to get the credit card info down. They also didn’t have matte paper that day, just gloss. It wasn’t what I prefer, but I wanted the poster printed sooner, so I opted for the gloss. The guy told me that they’d call me back when the poster was done. He couldn’t give me a time estimate, so I felt that I couldn’t go touring the city during the wait. =(
Anyhow, come ~4:20 pm, they still hadn’t called. Since they close at 5 pm, I called to follow up on the poster. They said it was ready, so I walked over to the store.
When I got there, they took quite some time locating my poster among the many that were being printed (22 that day according to an employee) for an upcoming conference at the New Orleans Convention Center. When they finally gave me my poster, it was already rolled up and wrapped. I was warned about wet ink around the borders of the poster. But I hadn’t even checked over the poster. What if they gave me the wrong one or there was a printing problem? So I had to unroll the poster out over a small table. The poster was awkward lying there.
Indeed the ink wasn’t dry. In fact, it was SUPER WET INK! And very messed up.
Further they DIDN’T CUT THE POSTER PROPERLY. One edge wasn’t even straight! Rather the edge had a point like the greater than symbol, only the angle was wider.
What a CRAPPY job! Can’t believe I had to pay ~$ 130 for it. They also didn’t offer a receipt, so I had to ask for one. Then they weren’t sure if they could print one out! After ~7 mins, the guy managed to print it out.
Later on, I discovered that the ink on the gloss paper rubbed off with a moist tissue. Ugh! Needless to say, I threw out the poor quality poster.
I should have gone to FedEx.
