YSB Pirates vs Ninjas vs... Bash @ Fountainbleau Room

It’s pretty typical of me to do things out of order — This review should have been first given this was the first event that kicked off my YSB, but hey last review or not.
After finally stretching our legs after the long drive out and getting all settled into the room, we noticed the Fountainbleau Room was located a sheer four blocks from our hotel, SCORE. While I didn’t adorn a full costume I got a few things to go with the whole pirate option.
This venue was a bit of a maze, exploring the ins and outs, you had a bar downstairs, small dance floor next door in the adjacent room, out front seating, than headed upstairs you came to the balcony area. The view was great, it’s what I would expect of all the balconies here in NOLA. The balcony also offered a great area to mingle with all the fellow Unilocalers that made it out, was ecstatic to meet a few from my hometown, Oceanside, CA!
Jambalaya Girl served up some great spicy bites while VnC Cocktail girls provided the necessary drinks to wash it down.
Overall a great kick back chill event to end (start) my first night in NOLA!

This was a nice follow up to the Pirate party that was held at Indulge. I really enjoyed meeting everyone from out of town and I really liked the balcony.

2 YEEs in a row on a Thursday? Must be Unilocal Spring Break! Oh yeah, 1^st night in town & it was already go, go, go!
The name of this YEE alone, «Pirates vs Ninjas vs Zombies vs Madonna Bash,» is worthy of 5 stars.
The girlfriend & I kept on our pirate attire from the earlier YEE & enjoyed a few free rounds of yummy VnC Cocktails at the bar.
While milling about, we discovered how cool a venue the Fountainbleau Room was. In addition to the bar, there was a dance floor & upstairs balcony.
1^st to the dance floor where the 80’s lived on & we shook our pirate’s booty while wearing our sunglasses at night. & then it was onward upstairs.
Fountainbleau Room’s balcony had a nice view over the corner of Canal & was a great place to meet & hang out with Elites while chowing down yummy jambalaya from Jambalaya Girl & Cook Me Somethin’ Mister.
Overall, it was a cool, chill YEE & fun way to wind down our 1^st day back in New Orleans. Thanks again Joi B. for 1 more of many fabulous YSB YEEs.

Great to see the number of spring breakers grow at this party. And this party was all about the people for me.
Because of the layout of the bar, the fountainbleau room, the patio, and the balcony, it was more like a house party and you wandered between rooms to hang out with different crowds.
I loved the views from the balcony (and spying on a certain business across the street). And loved our costumed attendees. All and all a great event for socializing.

Unilocal Spring Break Event # 2
While this event was technically the second spring break event, it seemed like it was the first event that all of the out of towners attended.
The venue was very unique. There was a downstairs bar and dance area, but the main draw was the balcony. As I sat up there I imagined I was a fancy dude from the 1800s staring down at the peasants. The only difference was that I had an iPhone, and the peasants were my fellow Unilocalers dressed up in all sorts of crazy costumes.
The highlight of this event, like all YSB events, was the people. I met so many cool and unique people at this event. Everyone was so laid back and relaxed that even our antics didn’t scare them away.
I am not sure if this was my favorite, but this was one great event.

I’m one of the lames that didn’t dawn a costume.
No pirate.
No ninja.
No zombie.
No Madonna.
Hey! I’m coming from NYC and I wanted to pack light. Swords, nun-​chucks, blood and guts, and skimpy wedding dresses won’t fit in my carry-​on! That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it! But can we note Joi’s costume change from one venue to the next? Such intricacies in such little time! And she was hot at both parties!!!
Obviously, Joi’s costume change was my highlight. The rest of the night was chill. Cool venue, cool folks, as expected. My biggest disappointment was the drink special. I thought vodka was on the menu of Unilocal specials, but only VnC was being served. The liquor comes in a hairspray-​bottle-​like container and was served by the cutest girls… but it was kinda gross. Excessively sweet and even when mixed with plain club soda and lime, I couldn’t chase down the sweetness. My whole crew thought it was pretty gross. We kept our drinking light at this event, then moved on to do some real drinking at the UYE bar crawl on Magazine Street.

What can I say, only in NOLA could I pull this off, walking down Canal St. looking like a cross between an old Madonna want-​a-​be and a zombie (didn’t have the right make-​up for it) so I did the best that I could. Trying to make my way there and trying to keep a straight face and trying to keep my wig on at the same time (lol) we got there (Thank God), we went right up stairs, and what a view. It was a beautiful evening with a great breeze.
I’m glad other people showed up and dressed up too, so I didn’t feel out of place. We enjoyed the wonderful jambalaya from Jambalaya Girl. Met wonderful Unilocalers from Atlanta and New York. It was a great evening. Thanks Joi, for picking this amazing spot. This is one evening I will not forget.

The party at the Fountainbleau Room was my second chance to enjoy the company of the Elite Unilocalers that I had met at the welcome party. I love the fact that YSB in New Orleans was a series of events! The Fountainbleau balcony overlooking the street was a fun way to party in New Orleans, especially since we didn’t stay at a hotel that had a balcony.
Thank you to whoever supplied the drinks, and I’m not even sure what I drank, but it tasted like a Pina Colada, and it was delicious! My first visit to New Orleans was friendly & fun, thanks to the YSB events and all the great Elite Unilocalers that I met from around the country (and even from Canada!)

Oh NOLA, how I love the fact that I walked around in a blonde betty boop-​esque wig, veil, mesh gloves, and white dress (with cowboy boots), and the most I got was a honk request to lift my dress and, «That wig looks great against your skin, that’s exactly how we dress here!» Just normal for a Thursday evening…
So, I showed up to the earlier event to be the only Madonna at the event (err trying to be at least?). I was glad to see there were a lot of very legitimate pirates at this one!
This location was solid. Nice balcony sectioned off for us with great views of the quarter and a few foods and dranks to try out.
Had to think midway through — pace yourself… your YSB is just beginning!

Another great Unilocal event! Not on a busy street but perfect for chatting with fellow Unilocalers. Great drinks and yummy jambalaya.

I was the only ninja I saw there which is perfect as real ninjas don’t get seen! I got there about an hour after the event started and it appeared most folks had been indulging more after the Indulge Island Grill check in so that was quite appreciated and appropriate. The balcony was a nice set up to watch all the cars drive by but you didn’t get the usual freak show parade that you get to see in the Quarter so some of the out of town folks might have missed that except there were enough people in costumes Unilocal put on its own freak show to stare at from the balcony! I can’t approve of this venue’s $ 6 beer prices though and seriously at that price I’m going next door to the super fancy glitzy Roosevelt Hotel for the Sazerac Bar.

What a great set-​up! A balcony, perfect night weather, tropical drinks to soothe the savage beat and finally meeting in the flesh Unilocalers from far away.
And…it’s only the beginning!

Yo ho Yo ho, a pirate’s life for me… Well you knew I was going to give this one 5 stars, all the usual suspects were there AND a ton of Unilocalers from all across the country.
I was unable to attend the earlier party, but was super pleased that a second themed party was in order.
Dressed in my best Pirate attire, I found parking right away and a close jaunt to the venue. Yep, I could see the Unilocalers all gabbing and laughing on the balcony as I walked towards the Fountainbleau Room.
Emily was there to check my in all smiles and giggles as she explained that I was to take special care of my «Spring Break TGC» and that my pin would work as a wrist band into the many events planned. Unilocalers are smart, we like info and I appreciated that, there was also a flyer that covered more info, Nice touch.
I made my way upstairs and made my way straight to VnC… On the way Alvin caught my attention and said that he would like to introduce me to his fellow Unilocaler friends from The Bay Area (oooooohhhhh new Unilocaler friends… I’ll be right back)
The bar was a bit busy and I swear the one VnC gal could have passed for a lindsey lohan lookalike. I chose the mango cocktail and was rather pleased with the taste. I will be looking for their product in my local stores.
Alvin introduced me to Naomi and Jerico and a couple more new friends joined our forming circle. I was curious to ask the visiting Unilocalers if this was their first trip and though some had been before, they were really looking forward to this Unilocal trip. I agree, I would be so excited to visit another city in the care and advice of other Unilocalers.
I danced a bit with Jen, with her polka dotted eye makeup, that by this time had smudged into a Keith Richards pirates of the Caribbean look. After a Hello to Joi and my NOLA peeps, it was off to my booty stashed in the Bayou…
I indeed had a Jolly time!!! Yo ho Yo Ho… a pirates’ life for me…

SITREP
In a contest of the Ultimate Beer Brawl and to determine who the last one would be standing between Pirates, Ninjas, Zombies, AND… Madonna, I think the hands down winner would have to be Madonna, because in a post-​apocalypse contest, Madonna is the only one who has the nads to last.
THE SETUP
The Pirates vs. Ninjas, et all, party was hosted by the Fountainbleau Room, a recent elegant addition to New Orlean’s Social Entertainment landscape, and it was absolutely beautiful from start to finish, feature a soirée on their giant elegant Gatsby’esque balcony overlooking the historic Canal Street.
THE COSTUMED YEEPS
It was a good time celebrating fun with many of the Unilocalers decked out, still in their costumed refinery, from the earlier Indulge Island event. And then TONS of new Unilocalers came and joined us at Fountainbleau all decked out to the nines in costumed-​themes!
So much fun meeting the crews from (where I could actually discern a place of origin) from Atlanta, San Diego, Seattle, etc. etc. and of course the awesome local team of Unilocalers here in NOLA itself! A great friendly crew of yeeps giving us a fantastic welcome! I love all of them!
BITES
Jambalaya Girl provided us with delicious taste bites that get our energy going up to Midnight (when some of turned into pumpkins — and OTHERS of us turned into more disturbing creatures!). She had a spicy sauce to add to the mix which just gave it an extra jolt!
THE BEVERAGE MASTERS
A definite shout out needs to be given to VnC Cocktails for providing great cocktails for the night. The gals some great mango AND passion fruit cocktails. I particularly love the fact that they gave me one of their mixing sets, and so I am stoked with my V n C swag!
KUDOS
A big shoutout to Joi and her dynamic team for showing us how it’s possible to make such a fun late night event a success! Seriously, in some cities that we come from, the streets roll-​up around 9pm-​10pm in the evenint, so this was a real treat!
THE LOWDOWN
