Established in 1964.

Over the last 50 years, Almstead Tree & Shrub Care Co. has grown from a one man operation into a full service tree, shrub and lawn care firm serving the New York Metro region.

Richard E. Almstead founded the company in 1964, and remains involved in the business which is now managed by his sons, Ken (CEO) and Michael (VP). A commitment to quality service and client focus remains the cornerstone of the business. As the tree and lawn care industries have advanced, Almstead has remained at the forefront of new techniques in arboriculture and organic care.

Business Owner

The CEO of Almstead Tree & Shrub Care Co, Ken has over 23 years of experience in the green industry, specializing in all aspects of tree and shrub care with emphasis on organic care, mature tree planting and preservation, tree protection, pre-​, during and post-​construction care, and multi-​year tree care development programs.

Ken studied Environmental Science and Forestry from Syracuse University. He continues to strengthen his understanding of arboriculture practices through courses and seminars at The New York Botanical Gardens, Cornell University, Rutgers University, Bartlett Arboretum, TCIA, ISA and NYSA.
