Fresh Mexican food. Quick service, pleasant staff. I typically order take-out and its ALWAYS on the money. The guac is so damn good… so damn good, I could easily just eat that alone. Chicken & Steak tacos are also delish, served with freshly chopped onions & cilantro. Give them a try, you will not be disappointed.

Simply put: my favorite Mexican restaurant!!! Amazing chile rellenos en crema and orchata. This place is the polar opposite of restaurants like Tequila Sunrise, and like La Herradura. No gimmicks; no made table– side guacamole, no mariachi band playing requested songs, no fancy décor. In fact, El Chino is a «hole in the wall» type of restaurant. It is a family establishment. Mom’s recipes are served, dad«El Chino“is in charge of deliveries, and the daughters help wait the tables. It is not rare to see the family eating lunch together with their kids at one of the tables, and the novelas are always tuned on the TV. It truly feels like you’re a guest in their house, always welcomed to join them for lunch or dinner.

I always get the tostadas con camarones(shrimp). It’s so incredible. The shrimp is always so fresh, and the cilantro, lime, onion mixture is always balanced. I’ve never eaten in the restaurant, it’s a little tight, and delivery did take a while, but the food is good.

Came here based on Unilocal reviews since we were in the neighborhood on a Wednesday night around 6:30p.m. Luckily we’re not against trying smaller establishments, especially once they’re talking about good food. It is definitely a cozy and quaint place(code for no-frills or fancy stuff). Also, definitely«ethnic» so don’t expect a super outgoing server unless you speak the language and invite such banter yourself. Be prepared for great flavor and mouth watering accompaniments. They serve free chips with a great salsa and refried bean dip. As an app, we had nachos al pastor, which were amazing! They had great layers of meat, beans and gooey cheese. For entrees I had enchiladas verdes, which come with 4, and they let you pick 2 different meats, I had shrimp and carnitas that were both moist and flavorful. My husband had the bistec los arcos, the steak was well seasoned and smothered in refried beans and cheese. Both entrees came with rice and beans, as well as a small salad that included avocados. We had 2 coronas each. Definitely winning after all that for under $ 60. Just wished it had better surroundings, since the neighborhood was questionable, but if you’re worried about that just make sure to visit during daylight hours.

After living in Cali for 8 years, I miss good Mexican food. This place is as close as you’ll find. Wish they had carne asada, as the steak is bland. Chile relleno with sour cream is divine, torta is great, Chorizo tacos are from the heavens. One complaint: Store bought, bland tortillas. Best chips and salsa in Westchester. And they serve warm refried beans alongside the salsa. Amazing. Why one star? It’s not because of the food. The service here is pathetic and insulting. TERRIBLE, terrible service. There is a huge language barrier here and I feel they don’t want to «deal» with people that don’t speak Spanish. One of the waitresses is very, very nice and accommodating. The other servers, on the other hand, should work in the back of the restaurant. Customers are customers and if you don’t like the fact that I’m speaking English, then learn your own menu in our native language. I’ve been to plenty of places where language is a barrier, but causes no issues. I hope their business suffers for this reason, as it’s shameful.

Looking for a local taco spot I trusted Unilocal and found taqueria el chino. Came for tacos left with the most delicious, amazing, galic filled camarones al mojo de ajo I’ve ever had… Pros: crazy spicy sauces. Tons of garlic. Home cooking at a really low price Cons: you will leave way too full.

I went to this place because of all the great reviews, but I have to say I was quite disappointed. It was an okay meal but nothing that stood out. It’s a very small restaurant with a few tables. I had the steak and chicken flautas, with rice and beans. Everything was very bland and not much flavor at all. Definitely won’t be coming back.

As good as Mexican can get, period… I started working in New Rochelle two years ago. A lot of Mexican and Peruvian places around here, so you have to find the best one and El Chino is it. Is it a hole in a wall? Yes. Is it in a not so great area? Yes Is it worth the trip if you are in the area? YES The Tacos are awesome, the pescado a la diabla is awesome as well as the camarones a la diabla. I have yet to have a meal I did not absolutely love. It’s a great place with great good, better yet, great authentic food.

I was craving authentic Mexican tacos so I decided to Unilocal and it led me to this little place! I’ve never had flautas before, but after all the reviews on here, I decided to go for it and order the steak ones and was not disappointed! I don’t even like beans, but their complimentary refried bean dip with salsa and tortilla chips was delicious! I had their horchata, which was refreshing. The flautas were perfectly fried with a nice crunch. The avocado was melt in your mouth delicious and gave the dish even more texture. I loved every bite! I also ordered an Al Pastor taco, which was a little dry, but the flavors were on point. I’d like to come back to give more tacos a try. It was a good sized taco for the price! Service was quick and friendly.

Went to lunch here today after reading these reviews — boy we sure were not disappointed! From the AMAZING Guac, to the Flauta’s to the Enchiladas Verde, we were in Mexican Heaven! It’s so refreshing to visit such a homestyle place where the food is made with love and all the ingredients were amazingly fresh!

Great tasting food, the tacos were VERY good and the flautas(fried rolled up tortillas filled with meat or cheese) where Really good and topped in salad, cheese and crema(sour cream)… the front end staff is super friendly and attentive,(the waitress was a bit«straight-faced» but NOT rude by any means. The girl that took my order was very nice and tried to explain what some of the meats that i wanted top try where like CABEZA(beef cheeks) SUADERO(basicly beef brisket) and PICADERA(sill don’t know what it is but will try next time) All in all this place serves good food«reasonably» priced =Not Dirt cheap $ 1 dollar taco truck food. be AWARE Green Salsa = 3rd degree burns in you mouth. i think is a solid choice for a quick lunch when you’re craving Real Mexican food ‚ 4SOLID stars for the FOOD 3 stars for the ambiance and space

Wow! How did it take me so long to try this place??? Even my wife loves it and she hated Mexican food until now. I’m from San Diego, CA and I have been disappointed over and over and over again by low quality Mexican places like little mex café and herradura. This place does it right! All food made to order and home made salsa. i mean really home made. i asked for extra hot sauce and the lady literally went back and started blending tomatoes and jalapenos. Try the Carne Asada Torta, nachos, tacos, or my favorite, the Carne Asada regular burrito with refried beans and cheese al dentro(inside the burrito). I saw a photo posted by another Unilocaler of gum in their chips but don’t believe it… It probably was the owner of little mex café trying to ruin this business.

A friend took me here for lunch yesterday because it is her favorite place to eat! The food is absolutely delicious! They start you off by serving you a bowl full of tortilla chips with an amazing hot refried bean dip and homemade salsa! We had the Shrimp Tostadas, which have an incredibly large amount of shrimp on them and taste out of this world. As our entrée we had the Pozole, which I normally love! Difference here is that I wish I could have had 4 bowls instead of one. Instead of the normal clear broth, they make it in a red broth and the pork is melt in your mouth good. My other friend had the Torta and it was one of the best she has had. Tender meat, and all fresh ingredients! For drinks we opted to have the Michelada, which is beer with hot sauce, lime, salt worcestershire sauce and clamato juice. It was amazingly good. Try it!!! This place is in a small side street and very discreet, but I will definitely be going back and do recommend you trying it. The food is authentic and extremely fresh and the staff is so nice and accommodating. If I could give this restaurant 6 stars I would!

I’m giving it 4 stars just because my mom’s food is the best mexican food. The place is small but service is good. This is the closest to real mexican food you can get on this part of NY(according to me of course). If you think Taco Bell or a burrito with yellow shredded cheese on top is mexican then you have a problem. Food has a taste and sense of homemade mexican food so it takes some minutes to get it to the table. Come here and try the Pozole(a hominy soup recipe that goes back to the aztecs era, but I believe at that time they used human brains as the main ingredient). Tacos de Pastor(pork) and bistec(beef) are my favorites. The main point is JUSTGOANDEAT there, ok

I definitely love this place, it is authentic mexican food from Jalisco(the most representative state of the whole country). To be honest I haven’t ordered most of the items in the menu, but Tacos and Flautas are to die for, they remind me of some street joints back home in Guadalajara. The best food you can get in Mexico is on the street. The staff is super helpful and it helps that it’s a very small place so they never take long with the orders. A small tip, there is parking just across the street but they only have a couple of spots reserved for customers.

New York often gets a bum rap for Mexican food, especially from folks like me who grew up in Southwestern border states where you’re more likely to find a burrito place than a burger joint. I’m picky to the point where I’ll not return to a place simply because of their salsas or beans. So when my friend Dave suggested we check out this little family-owned eatery on a side street in New Rochelle, my expectations were muted. I’ve had decent Mexican in NY, but never a home run. It’s a simple, no frills, spot — where the walls are adorned with photos and paintings of the owner’s hometown: Quitupan(located in the Mexican state that gives us Tequila. Gracias). I like this type of homage as it usually indicates an overall pride in one’s roots — which often shows up in the restaurant’s food. The owner’s family is extremely friendly and loaded us up with chips, a tangy tomato salsa and creamy plate of refried beans for dipping. Honestly, I would have been happy if that was the meal itself. Everything was perfect. The appetizer selection included sopes, eggs dishes, street tacos, tortas and more. However I went with an entrée: Bistec Ranchero — a thin, but large grilled steak that is smothered in a sauce of tomatoes, onions, peppers and other flavors. Also on the plate: beans, rice, and a bid dollop of guac.($ 13). Dave went with one of his favorites: Camarones a la Diabla(shrimp in a delicious red sauce made with chiles and other spices). The sauces on both dishes is why I give them extra credit. Someone cares. I’d like to think that someone’s grandma spent a lifetime cultivating such flavors. Ho hum places serve sauces that you barely notice. Great Mexican places serve sauces that launch a Mariachi band in your mouth. I left feeling like I just had sex for the first time in ages — totally satisfied. But I’m also slightly post-culinary coital sad because I’m not sure how often I’ll be able to see Taqueria El Chino again due to their distance from me. But they are worth a journey, taking pride in both their hometown and cuisine. Now I gotta go pick out a tiny accordion stuck in my teeth.
