Hertz Rent A Car

This place made it very tempting to hijack a car from someplace. Slower than molasses. Shuffling. Unprepared. Took over an hr despite having set up everything including a kid seat. Guy rolls over apologetically saying keys for the shed where the seats are kept wasn’t working. Avoid if you can.

What should I say. I thought budget and payless are very poor service and try to get your $$$ anyway they can. Hertz was the same too.
1. They give me the car wasn’t clean in and out and when I tell them. Manager said car wash was pipe frozen. Ok fine. Thiz is nyc. But, when I return the car, of course fill up full gas. Do u know what they asking, the receipts from gas station. If u cant give them, they will charge you 18 $ something for two days. This is the company policy she said and no one said when I am taking the car out. This is scum to get your money anyway they can.
I thought hertz was big rental change. Also battery plug was broken.
So I cant charge my ph, my entire trip. Can u feel this? My rental car was nissan sentra.

JFK Hertz could be the worst in the nation. Not once in dozens of rentals here over the past year have I had a smooth experience.
Unbelievable that gold desk is never staffed. Ever. Rarely is my name on the gold board despite providing flight information (not that it should matter). The carfimations don’t show up until the last minute if at all. It it just a poorly run location.

Great service experience. We were greeted upon arrival. Another employee came rushing over to meet us and then offered us a car ride to the airport. Usually a fee for this service. Made the experience lovely since I was wearing shorts in 45 degree weather. apparently jet blue is a long walk from the rental place even after the train ride. They are presenting their new services. Car we rented was ok. It was a Toyota Highlander. The third row is really for little kids. Teens did not enjoy the ride back there. The phone chargers are the old fashioned cigarette lighter. We had to purchase a phone charger. We did have some issues with lights coming on for AWD not working and tore gauge lights but we didn’t have a need to drive it much so it met our needs.

Service at this location varies. My most recent experience was that they were fast, friendly and helpful both when renting and returning. The price I paid matched my reservation, and the class of car I reserved was available.
On some prior occasions, service was slow and surly. I don’t know if the improvement was based on management efforts or chance.

Hertz is a terrible company. They overcharge. But what’s worse is that none of their employees ever seems to know how to run their computer systems. And they claim they will send a receipt but then don’t even know how. And are seemingly paralyzed when looking at a computer screen. Hertz– train your employees to get through their jobs during the day. And your cars are dirty– yes never clean. And the car I rented from this location had a faulty transmission. No one properly inspected it. The person who checked me out said the warning signs were not important. And then I had to call roadside assistance. How do you manage to stay in business?

We rented from Atlanta for 3 days on 4^th Dec 2015. I made a 12 noon booking, but called the rental company to let them know that I’d be late. They said it wasn’t a problem and we eventually picked up around 1.40pm. We returned the car before 4.30 (before their grace time of additional 3 hours ends and a new day kicks in) at the JFK airport and still were charged for 3 days, when we should only have been charged for 2. Flat out cheating! Didn’t know that a big company such as Hertz would stoop to such levels. I guess that’s how they are their big bucks — by fleecing customers!
The car’s oil change sign came up 50 miles into our rental, the alignment was weird, it made a sound like a large truck and the windshield had damage on it. We didn’t complain. But cheating us is what really got to me! Cheating shouldn’t be part of a company’s ethics.

This place is the worst! Staff is unmotivated cars are always a mess. I rented an E class Mercedes it had tint hanging from the front windows with razors in the door pockets. Yesterday I rented a Yukon it overheated and the breaks were so warped the car shook violently. Hertz get on the management this place has been a wreck for years I dread going there.

I have a big problem with Hertz and their system of online car rentals. I recently became a gold member which gave me the ability pre-​pay for my rental online and then pick the car up without speaking to a representative. Because I had created a profile, where I declined the pre-​pay fuel option, I assumed that I would not be purchasing a tank a gas and was so happy about not having to wait in lines that I zoomed out of the lot without carefully reading my contract (BIG MISTAKE). They also billed me in two segments and the final receipt which I received when I dropped off the car only showed the second segment of the billing (which would have been about right without the gas) — so that added to my confusion. When I spoke to Hertz today they told me that, in fact, there is a screen of preferences online, that they have access to, which show I had a preference requesting the Fuel. I kept repeating that my screen only showed that I had declined the fuel (see my screen shot above). They transferred me to a web services person who said there indeed was a screen of preferences which only they had access to, where fuel had been selected. He told me I could not access that screen and so he would remove the request (though he could not show me any verification that he would be changing it) and my rentals in the future should be fuel free. When I spoke again to customer service and explained that somehow this preference had turned up without my knowledge, she denied that that was possible, despite my repeated explanations that all I could see on my computer was my preference declining fuel. She scolded me (rightfully) for not reading my contract but I also told her that if customers could not trust that the online system was working for them what was the point of all the time saving measures they had established. I offered to send her a copy of my credit card bill showing the gas charge I had made that morning to refill the tank before returning the car — but she was not interested. She did give me a credit for half the price of the fuel.
Now I will mail the screenshot of my account and my credit card bill to the mailing address they have for customer service.
the lesson here is to carefully read the contract — regardless of how quickly you are able to rent your car.
It appears to me that Hertz has a way to sneak in charges to their customers which probably get by those people who trust them and are in a hurry to drive out with their rental! Not very cool.

I recently rented a van at this location and requested for a PlatePass (for a fee of $ 4.95).
The PlatePass was defective and I ended up paying toll at every toll gate that I passed, causing much inconvenience to me and the drivers stalled behind me. I called Hertz customer service to complain about the defective PlatePass and requested that the $ 4.95 fee be taken out of my bill.
Just today, I saw in my credit card that Hertz still billed me for the PlatePass fee! Placed another call to their customer service line, was passed on to 4 different people (of which none could help), and finally decided it was not worth wasting time over.
Lesson learned: just stay away from Hertz.

This is the worst rental car experience I’ve ever had. If I could give it zero stars, I would. After making the hike to get our rental car, we ended up getting a beat up Nissan Sentra. This was considered a nice Hertz Gold car. Then we sat in the ONE exit lane they had… for an HOUR. There had to be at least 20+ cars in the same situation as us. And to make matters worse, it was impossible to get someone on the phone! Will never use Hertz again — gold member or not.

Worst hertz location ever. Being a pilot I travel a lot and often. Normally hertz is a constant product; HOWEVER this location takes the cake. Staff does not care about its customers. Waited as a GOLD member with name on screen for over an hour due to no car seat and a smoke smelling car. They never got the car seat and one lady stated «not my problem, I do returns». Needless to say I am canceling all my hertz reservations due to this one location. Go any other company. I currently have the rental car and still wasn’t clean and smelled still like smoke. Horrible. The list goes on but you have the drift. O. Plus only two CSR at counter when I was there.

More than 20 parties in line and only two registers open.
Get ready for a long long wait time.
If you’re a hertz gold member, make sure to register your booking. Then you won’t have a line

In summary: This location is very confusing to get to if you’re not from the area. The staff is hit or miss (more on the miss side if you arrive late at night).
As with other Hertz locations, this one also does not do upgrades for higher status renters. They also have a seemingly endless assortment of sub-​standard chinsy-​built vehicles — Chrysler 200, Toyota Corolla. Hyundai Elantra, Chevy Cruze, etc in the 5k-​10k mileage range. Still young enough for them to rent them as ‘new’ yet old enough to have a weird and persistent smell of soggy socks, ethnic food, second hand smoke, and too much middle aged perfume/​cologne. It is after all, a rental car.
It’s the only Hertz at JFK, so unfortunately you have no choice.

I have rented here several times. Thank goodness I am a gold member and do not have to wait in line to get my car because they always have long lines inside.
I like that my name is above the car that I am taking and all I have to do is get in and drive out of the lot!

When did Hertz go from one of the top 2 or 3 rental companies to one of the worst? We waited in line for over an hour — at 1am — with a very sleepy child. One person behind the counter, handling EVERYTHING! The car was new (yet not entirely clean — mud splashes on the side), but the car seat for the kiddo was absolutely bottom of the line. And no one there to meet us when we returned the car? Just a recorded announcement to fill out the mileage, gas tank level, etc.
Enterprise, Alamo, Budget — all WAY better than this place. «Ouch! it Hertz!»

I got there at about 12am and the line was about 5 parties long. There were only 2 people behind the counter, and service was pretty slow. We waited for about half an hour with no line movement before a guy named Chris came out and helped those in line.
I was there to return a GPS and to add myself to the family rental car, and Chris was able to help me out real fast, since I wasn’t there to pick up a car.
The only reason why this review gets 4 stars is that the service was absolutely slow. I do understand that it is midnight and not primetime, but I feel that you should be able to keep track of your reservations and make accommodations for the volume of people you’re expecting.
Other than that, thank you, Chris for being amazing.

When did Hertz go from being the best rental company yo being the worse? Being a major airport location, they’re woefully understaffed. Pickup was slow even though the line was very short. I’ve had better experience at Dollar rent-​a-​car, and they’re a budget brand! Drop-​off was even worse. This is the first time ever that there wasn’t someone at the drop-​off to check me out. Instead there was a PA announcement telling me to write down my mileage and gas tank %, then go inside, and wait in line to check-​out. WTF?! There was a line 6 deep and only two people at the counters.
Next time, I’ll stick to the budget brands that offer better service. And no way will I ever recommend or rent from Hertz again.

Beware. If you have anything but a flawless experience, nobody will help you. They don’t answer their phone EVER. They will not return phone messages. Customer service for HERTZ cannot help with all problems. Some must be handled by the individual location, BUT NOBODY ANSWERS THE PHONE! (I’m talking for three days and 15 phone messages).
The car I received had a slipped transmission and a few bashes in the door frame. It’s an awful make of car — the Ford Fiesta. Yuk. I noticed the first day and on day 3 I’m still trying to get someone to help me. Why did I try Hertz? Someone told me they have good rental cars. That has not been my experience at all.
They offer ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Don’t say you weren’t warned.

It wasn’t too easy to find this location, but we did. Give yourself plenty of time to top of the tank, and to take the AirTrain back to JFK.
When we pulled up, there was 1 attendant checking us in. He was courteous and asked if we needed the AirTrain. Thankfully he asked, because I didn’t realize that the rental return was located off site (as we rented the car originally in Manhattan).
It was an decent experience. It wasn’t like the attendant held our hand or anything. He checked the tank, looked over the car, and we were out within 5 minutes.
