50 Shades! the Musical

I won two tickets to see the off Broadway show, «50 Shades! The musical parody» and took my mom. Of course since the tickets were complimentary our seats were all the way in the back, last row LOL. We didn’t complain since they were free but we did ask the usher if we could move up since there were a lot of available seats closer to the stage. That usher walked us right to the first row, woo hoo.
The musical was crazy, funny and raunchy all at once. I was nervous that my mom wouldn’t like the off the wall sexual humor in the show but she laughed just as hard as I did. The performers did an excellent job and the story line was very easy to follow. My favorite was definitely their last performance which turned into a gospel choir rendition of something sexual and I cried in tears. I sang that song all the way home. Definitely a must see for a casual and entertaining evening out.

My old college roomie traveled down to NYC to have a fun weekend with me. I got us tickets to see this. We sat there giggling the whole time. The dirty songs were stucked inside of my head for days after.
We kept giving each other side glances and giggling our heads off. But after a while it was too much sillyness, not enough of a plot. The second part wasn’t as funny as the first.
The book and movie are ridiculous and this is a parody so I guess it served it’s purpose. Fun time but there are better shows in New York to see.

Must-​see off-​Broadway show!
Who’d have known, that a soft porn, CON·TRO·VER·SIAL, and a painful trilogy can be a hysterical parody!
I saw it last October, and I bought my tickets through Living Social. Good deal!
I have E. L. James’s filthy novels, decorating my bookcase, with the future intention of reading them. Yet, I did get 50 Shades! the Musical, Easily!!!
The filthy twist and genuine humor to the original story is a non-​stop laugh for the entire show!
It was soooooooooo funny, I kept laughing and laughing and laughing, I couldn’t help myself.
Let me explain more: I laughed so hard, the belly laughing and gut wrenching kind. I got hiccups.
Unlike the novel, Christian Grey, is totally unattractive, boring and unsophisticated. Oh my God, I can still hear him singing: «I don’t make love… I F _​_​_​!» and Ana’s song «there’s a hole inside of me that I need to fill» HAHAHAHAHAHAH

Hilarious! Raunchy! Sexy! Just go with some girlfriends, order some drinks and enjoy the show! I went with mine and we all had a great time!

This show was hilarious and you don’t have to have read the books to get it or enjoy. This is definitely R rated with no one under 18 admitted.
Raunchy parody with top notch singers and actors. The whole theatre was engulfed in laughter. Loosely based on the book, even your men folk who have no clue will enjoy. Not for you bible thumping puritans! All else will appreciate the humor!

This show was hysterical and that’s coming from a guy. My wife forced me to go to it and I really didn’t want to, but I’m glad I did, it was extremely funny and a great show for women or couples. DON’T BRING THE KIDS THOUGH!!! Not good for anyone that can’t handle a «few» bad words or promiscuity in their lives.
The cast was great and made everyone laugh so much I was very happy about it afterwards and didn’t mind that there were only a handleful of men along with their wives or g/​f in the show. We all laughed and got a kick out of the show.
I would recommend this any man that wants to make their better half happy and take them to this show if their in NYC. Very highly reommended by many people that have seen it.

I got tickets through living social for $ 49 and was skeptical of how the show compared to the book will be. We had tickets did 5:00 show but ran late. The nice ticket manager was able to accommodate us with 2 new tickets to the 8:00 show as we missed the first 20 minutes.
Once show started, I was immediately surprised by how good the cast was in being comical and also the singing as it related to the characters in the book. Keep in mind this is a parady, there was some raunchiness to some of the scenes but it’s not as ® rated as the chapters in the book. If you are looking for some comedic relief singing and some dancing, I highly recommend this show. My friend didn’t read the book and still enjoyed the show! Worth the $$ and time!

I am not sure why this has such high ratings and rave reviews. I went with my friend and we both hated it and left during the intermission.
Some lyrics were funny but mostly really raunchy. It’s a parody so Christian grey was not good looking and extremely heavy.
Found the acting to be poor. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. The tickets are expensive for what it is

I was truly skeptical of this show, despite the NY Times review, because really, how good can a parody of a bad porn novel be? This entire show was unexpected in the best possible way. The writers and actors were able to take the basic plot of the story and all its associated romance novel tropes and turn that on its goddamn head.
I was genuinely shocked by the songs, the powerful voices of the actors and how effortlessly hilarious it looked. Even the men in the audience laughed their asses off. I have never heard the words «double headed dildo» in a play before, so obviously this is a winner. Go see this now!

I was expecting a good show but this was one by far one the the funniest shows I have seen. There was never a dull moment thru out the entire show. The acting and cast all meshed well together. I have recommended 50 Shades to all of my friends.
To sum it up… Hysterical and a must see! DONT come with a prude though. LOL

Rarely do I ever do this but I am Unilocaling during the 15 min intermission of the show because it is that freaking AWESOME!!!

This parody I’d innovative and absolutely a must watch!!! The songs and ideas are completely based on the book .its raunchy, in your face, no holds barred and there is definitely skin on display… lol

I was never a Broadway musical fan. I found the popular ones were way too expensive for decent entertainment in 2 hours. However, 50 Shades the musical was a complete surprise.
Though we got in 20 minutes late, it didn’t take long for us to follow. I never read the book but this musical parody summarized it nicely.
Move over Book of Mormon and Ave Q because this was probably the funniest I’ve seen. The funniest part is Christian Grey being played by an Asian dude. And a somewhat heavy set Asia dude at that. Chris Grace really knocked it out of the ballpark. His mannerisms, attitude, straight face in hilarious circumstances and even light participation with the crowd. He was a great actor and even better singer.
The rest of the cast was equally funny and talented. If you are looking for some raunchy jokes and sexual storyline, this is the musical for you. You won’t regret it.

Man this show exceeded all expectations, laughed so much at this show.
I will not get into the details and about the plot, it is loosely based on the book. This was one of the show which keeps us hooked from start to finish. Apart from nice storyline this show boosts an amazing cast specially the asian guy who literally steals the show.

Chris Grace played Christian Grey’s part so hauntingly hilarious I wouldn’t blame you if you peed in your pants from laughing so hard. He was absolutely divine lol. Amber Petty’s Anastasia Steele and her big round eyes was captivating and you wouldn’t take your eyes away from her for a minute.
Wait. Hilarious? Yes. This is a musical genius capturing the books insanely stupid plot. If you’re a big fan of this book and swears by it you might not like it but you will laugh your ass off. Whether you like it or not.
The whole cast are extremely talented. Chris Grace and Amber Petty carried that show as lead actors should from start to finish. But you can never discount the fact that all the other casts were as talented.
If you’re on the market looking for a great time, this show is definitely for you. Leave any kind of prudeness at the door please.

I didn’t think I would be entertained by this at all. But I’ve read the books. All of them. Out of morbid curiosity and because Finlay owned them and insisted I read them years ago. I scoffed at it, wanted to burn them, threw them across the room after reading the words «Inner Goddess» along the pages, etc. But I still read them all in like one day so I could yell at her the day after for purchasing such a frivolous piece of garbage. Anyone that refers to their vagina as their «Inner Goddess» should be shot and buried alive.
But this PLAY.
I could not stop laughing for the love of god. It does what people like me have always wanted to do. Turn this into a ridiculous mockery musical and put it up on stage in Broadway lights to tear this piece of literature to SHREDS. Victory.
The musical was both witty, raunchy, and insanely clever. Even my guy friend that was completely skeptical about this was amused the entire night. Chris Grace is hilarious as the lead Christian Grey. He stole the show. Pretty funny ad lib moments with the audience. Amber Petty as Anastasia had both a powerful voice and reminded me of a if its even possible slightly more hipster and aloof version of Zooey Deschanel. I was pretty impressed with Chloe Williamson’s vocal chops as well actually.
Just as a heads up this play is raunchy. Funny but definitely not meant for the kiddies or for the feint of heart. There’s a song by Mr. Gray about how he wants to fuck everyone in the audience and fist the naïve little Anna.

The future «50 Shades of Grey» movie will pale in comparison to this play, I can assuredly say. I can not remember the last time I laughed so hard at live entertainment!
Yes, I read the first book, despite how horrible it was. I’m one of «those» people; it truly is a sick addiction once you start. This musical wasn’t quite what I was expecting it to be; I figured it’d be a musical parody of «50 Shades…», as advertised, but their were many elements thrown in that surprised me. I enjoyed Bev, Pam, and Carol as their book club decided to read the titillating «50 Shades…» over a soup cookbook or «The Diary of Anne Frank». They were omnipresent throughout the show as what they «read» came to life on stage. Each performer was amazing and I genuinely enjoyed every interpretation of the characters. To those who know the book well and had their own mental visions of Christian Gray, you could hear the audible collective gasp of the audience when he (portrayed by Chris Grace) stepped on stage. That was the icing on the cake!
The sex was PG, with Christine Cavanaugh being banged, fully-​clothed, from behind by Elliot Grey literally RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME as she steadied herself on the edge of Row F, Seat 2 in the audience. The grand culmination of Ana and Christian’s first time was him «nom nom nom”-ing her quite hilariously and also fully-​clothed. But the song lyrics? «I don’t make love… I fuck.» Well, there’s no subtly there! The songs were absolutely hilarious, ably-​performed, and the dance moves were hot! All of the cast members have amazing voices, especially Amber Petty, playing Miss Steele herself. She blew me away!
There are references throughout the musical that any fan (or at least any reader of the book) will enjoy: Ana’s natural unshaven state, all of the food Christian makes her eat, Christian’s aversion to being touched, that damn Inner Goddess, and, of course, how horribly written the book is. To quote Ana, «This is real life; this isn’t a book. If it was, it would be terrible.»
Luckily, this musical was anything but.
Thanks to the fine folks at Unilocal for the free tickets, though I would have gladly paid. Hell, I’d pay to see it a second or third time!

Laughed our asses off from start to finish. Absolutely hysterical skewering of the book 50 Shades of Grey. This was a total raunch-​fest with so many funny lines, zingers, and double-​entendres throughout. The songs were brilliant on the scale of the raunchiest South Park comes up with. Sharp writing and brisk direction made this 90 minute show breeze by. So many laughs. So much fisting!
Eye candy for the ladies, and some eye candy for the men. Even a really funny full on banging simulated sex session in the middle of the audience!
We all know that 50 Shades is a horribly written book that is basically literary porn for suburban soccer moms living dreary lives married to schlubby boring husbands. This musical parody of it just destroys the whole concept and actually makes it better. The lead, Chris Grace, who plays Christian Grey, is dead on funny and really steals the show with his characterization of Mr Grey. The female lead, Amber Petty as Anastasia Steele, is just as strong and puts in a terrific performance as the clueless love/​sex slave interest of Mr Grey. In fact, the whole crew is very talented, funny, and can really sing.
Also, I will never look at my Asian friends the same again after viewing Chris Grace’s performance as Christian Grey! Mind. Blown.
Great Unilocal night event! Thanks to Unilocal and CM Ruggy for setting this up. Was so worth seeing that I might actually pay for tickets to see it again with friends. Definitely not for the older stuffy folks and proper conservative family members. Much better for those with a dirty mind, groups of open minded friends, sex fiends, and gaggles of cougers on a fun night out. Full bar here and lounge area, plus you’re invited to drink at your seats. Winning!

What a hilarious play! I had no idea what I was getting into; I actually came here thinking that it was the 50 Shades of Grey musical & didn’t know that it was a parody but I laughed from beginning to end.
Bravo to Chris Grace & to the entire cast, all of whom were fantastic singers. The songs were both funny & catchy. You do not have to read the book or even know what it’s about in order to enjoy this.
I sat in the 3^rd row but the theater is small so any seat is ok. The play runs about 1.5 hr with a 15 min intermission and there is a bar area right before entering.
I highly recommend this musical!

I was not sure what to expect from this musical.
From the opening scene I was laughing and giggling all the way to the end.
The character Christian Grey was played by the comedian Chris Grace who is very funny and can sing pretty well!
His ability to come out and sing with a skimpy athletic wrestling suit really takes the prize for the night.
The role of Anastasia Steele was played by Amber Petty who has a wonderful wide-​range singing voice. Her looks and voice reminded me of Linda Ronstaldt in the 80s.
The jokes and subject of this play is rated R so leave the kids home.
The Elektra threater is small. Most of the seats have great view of the stage except the ones on the right side. You’ll have to walk up a very tight set of stairs to get to the theater on the 2^nd floor. There is an elevator.

Chris Grace plays the character Billionaire Christian Grey. Omg Mr. Grace is the most hilarious Asian guy I’ve ever seen! He’s totally dreamy!
This show was making me laugh all the way through. My favorite songs were I Don’t Make Love and Red Room.
The musical was very funny and had it’s share of catchy show tunes. Some of the material is rated R so it may not be appropriate for young children. I highly recommend this musical if you want to laugh. Go see it!
