A La Mode Shoppe

Visiting from Los Angeles. The ice cream was delicious. The coffee and the vanilla bean ice creams were amazing. Definitely worth stopping in.

The cutest ice cream shops and kids boutique store ever. The ice cream is DELICIOUS and home made (not to mention nut free) and the shop is full of Fabulous kids brands. I highly recommend it, oh and if you need a place to throw a kids birthday party or baby shower this is the spot!

This is a great little addition to the non-​existent, family friendly, options in the midtown east area.
Ice cream and sorbets: they offer about 10 – 12 flavors. Per the website, all flavors are home made. The ice creams are egg and are nut free, and they also offer dairy and gluten free options as well. I think the flavors are pretty good. They are nothing compared to other fancy NYC ice cream shops, but much better than anything store bought. Definitely worth going to if you have certain diet restrictions, are in the neighborhood, and/​or looking for a spacious kid friendly ice cream shop. But I wouldn’t go out of my way for this based on the ice cream flavors alone. Though some of the flavors have a unique edge to them, I thought they weren’t as creamy and they were mild in flavor.
-$ 1.50 for the mini size cone: super cute. It’s literally a tiny melon sized scoop of ice cream, on top of a mini cone. Super cute, and great portion for a toddler.
-$ 2.50 for a kid sized cone: one scoop.
They offer other sizes, but those are the two sizes we normally get.
If you have to deal with a stroller and/​or wheelchair, you will need to climb up a couple steps to get inside. Just something to consider as this ice cream shop is geared towards kids and families. But once inside, you will have no issue at all as there are plenty of tables and open space. They even have a room to the right with kid sized tables and chairs, and some fun Melissa and Doug toys to play with. It’s a cute set up. Per the website, they can accommodate private parties.
For the most part, we found the service to be friendly and decent every time we’ve been in. However, one thing I found slightly annoying in regards to service on my last visit, was how they kept offering my friend (who is a regular) to try out the new flavors, but never offered any to me. I stood right next to her, and not once did they offer me a sample. I’m sure they would have given it to me had I asked, but it was just a little rude to offer her about 4 – 5 samples (while taking the time to tell her about the ingredients and flavors), yet didn’t once turn to me to ask if I wanted a sample. Not the biggest of deals, since I still made a purchase and enjoyed the ice cream and will most likely go back, but just something they need to be more considerate and mindful of.
Along with selling ice cream, they also sell a variety of kids toys and clothes. They have quite a selection of the Jellycat books and stuffed animals. I even saw some native shoes for sale.

They accept credit cards.

Despite blatant demographic targeting of families* — specifically families/​mothers & their children — I quite liked A La Mode, even if there was no pie available. Got myself familiarized with their pricing for the ice cream (the space seems decorated/​geared towards events & clothing more than eating in, but there’s enough room to sit if it isn’t busy).
Cones are small and smaller (The doughnuts and sandwiches listed on the board are in the slender freezer to your left when you enter, and just as small.), so go with a cup (which I received being asked, for the best), particularly the tween size rather than the kid size*, which is pretty generous at a very reasonable $ 3.81. Their pumpkin and coffee toffee flavors not only didn’t leave me wishing for the traditional ice cream ingredients (the rosewater and chocolate were also solid), they also seemed very similar to your usual suspect. It’s on a quiet stretch, so it’s a particularly great option in an area without many. An extra star for that, and just because I hope they survive.
BTW there’s way too much info on their receipts, so ask them to toss yours.
*Gentlemen, keep your eyes on theirs.

I got a scoop of the Skipper, creamy vanilla bean ice cream infused with pretzel and M&M pieces, and it was delicious. Love the sweet and salty combo. Came out to be around $ 2.70 for a big, generous scoop — really decent price for good ice cream in the city!

Very cute spot! The ice cream is creamy and tasty without being too sweet. This place reminds me of Alice’s Tea Cup but an ice cream shop. I got the strawberry and my boyfriend got the chocolate. Both flavors were very good. I LOVED how they offered dairy and gluten free options. I tried a sample of it and it was very good considering it was gluten and dairy free. Definitely give this place a try if you are in the neighborhood.

This place is such a gem in the neighborhood and I absolutely love it! Egg free, dairy free, and nut free goodness! I had their dairy free chocolate chip and it was really smooth and really fresh! Also, the owners are wonderful and so generous with their smiles and service! Yum! And can’t wait to be back soon.

Best of all, A la Mode has really nice people behind the counter, who can answer all your ice cream questions. They also have to tell you the rule of No Ice Cream Monday cuz they need a day off too: P

Finally! Midtown East has its very own ice cream shop. And its delicious! We had the chocolate covered pretzel ice cream which was divine. The owner also gave us a sample taste of the strawberry and cotton candy ice cream. Both flavors were very good. We are so happy to have this new establishment in our neighborhood!

I went to this store for a birthday party. It is such a great little shop. I will definitely go back because of the merchandise. It will be my first stop for birthday gifts because they had such unique, fun stuff.
It also was a great space for the party, which I may consider in the future.

Some of the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted served by two of the friendliest owners. My friend is nut and egg-​free and this was her first time in an ice cream shop where she could actually be served. They let us try every flavor, took pictures for us to document her time, and were so helpful and understanding about her allergies. The owner even gave us three of they’re mini (nut-​free) chocolate covered ice cream donuts to try.
So happy to see a gorgeous little shop like this in Née York. Looking forward to my next visit!

Family owned & run ice cream shoppe. The business owners live in the neighborhood & brought a much needed ice cream shop to the neighborhood!
Ice cream is very good & service is extremely friendly.
If I had ONE complaint, it would be their hours. I wish they were open a bit later on these long summer nights.

Had our daughters 1^st birthday here and it was great! They provided balloons, activity for kids, decorations to go with our theme, favors, and of course ice cream. The owners could not be nicer and gave us, our guests and her a really memorable and special party.

OPEN TILL EIGHT! ( Unilocal has wrong hours listed.) And the ice cream is delicious, with unique homemade flavors (rosemary honey, chocolate-​covered pretzel, etc.) that change daily.

Service is phenomenal, knowledge of ingredients impeccable, and the ice cream outstanding– had the Oreos and cream, the rose strawberry and caramel, but the coffee and chocolate chip with a salty caramel drizzle was off the charts — double scoops next time!
All there stuff is egg free for those with allergies — and delicious!

You need to go to this shoppe. Especially if you or your child has a nut allergy, gluten or dairy… it’s incredible. Not to mention the Vermont Nut Free products used within the shoppe’s ice creams and also available for purchase.
My son was beyond thrilled that he could have anything in the shoppe and not have to worry about his allergy. Bonus, the ice cream is phenominal (pigged out, two scoops), the manager is super sweet and accommodating. We went out of our way to go to A La Mode and are so happy we did! You will be too.

Great shop. Very nice inside, very clean and everything is brand new. Nice little side room for a kids party.
The best part about this store. Everything is nut free. We made a special trip to vist because my son has a peanut allergy. His face lit up like a Christmas tree when we walked in and told him he could have anything he wanted in the store. The manager was very nice and indulged us in our joy of being here. Thank you very much. We will return many times and yes their ice cream is delicious.
