Abingdon Square Veterinary Clinic provides full-​service medical, surgical, and dental care for dogs and cats in the neighborhoods of West Village, Greenwich Village, Chelsea, SoHo, TriBeCa, and the rest of lower Manhattan. We emphasize preventive medicine, wellness care, geriatric care, and dental care for our patients. Our commitment to the concept of low stress handling means that your dog or cat may find a visit to the vet to be a genuinely positive experience.

History

Established in 1970.

Abingdon Square Veterinary Clinic, originally at 107 Greenwich Avenue, was established by Dr. Clayton Kimble in the 1970’s. Dr. Dianne DeLorenzo assumed ownership of the practice in 2002. In 2013, the practice was relocated to 130 West 10th Street in the West Village.

Business Owner

Dr. Dianne DeLorenzo is a general practitioner and the owner of Abingdon Square Veterinary Clinic.

A native of the Bronx, Dr. DeLorenzo attended Cornell University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1983. She went on to attend Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. After completing her veterinary studies, Dr. DeLorenzo was chosen from among hundreds of candidates for a medicine and surgery internship at The Animal Medical Center in NYC.

Internal medicine and geriatric medicine are among Dr. DeLorenzo’s many professional interests. She enjoys practicing in the Village and is grateful for the time she gets to spend with all her clients and their wonderful pets. Dr. DeLorenzo is a member of the New York City Veterinary Medical Association, the New York State Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.

I would give this practice more stars if I could! I’m a new pet mom to my now 9 week old puppy (got her at 8 weeks), and completely clueless when it comes to vet recommendations, but asked around to other pet parents and everyone had this practice as a recommended practice and I’m glad I listened.
Every time I’ve called, I’ve spoken to extremely friendly staff. Even on the first day when my puppy was going bizerk and wouldn’t let me finish my paperwork, the staff stepped in to scoop her up and calm her down to let me finish the paperwork and teach me a thing or two about calming a hyper puppy down!
I met with Dr. Burdon who was super sweet with my pup, she did a thorough checkup and was so gentle with my little one and Zuri took to her right away. You can tell she has a huge affinity to pets and puppies! She explained everything thoroughly about the puppy, the next upcoming milestones and things I need to be aware of raising a puppy in NYC.
When my puppy developed an ear infection. Dr. Goldberg saw her and was also super gentle when it came to checking out my puppy. It was painful for the puppy but she helped make it as pain less as possible. She also gave me suggestions on how to administer ear drops on a very squirmy puppy who wanted anything but ear drops!
I know it’s still early on in my history with this practice, but from what I’ve experienced thus far I’m glad I made the right choice.

I’ve been looking for a vet like Dr. DeLorenzo for a long time.
My dog has had three previous vets in the the three years I’ve had him. The first was extremely condescending to me during examinations and provided inadequate care, telling me that there was nothing he could prescribe my dog for his motion sickness other than a tranquilizer that didn’t properly work. The second was my mother’s vet in NJ, who set my standard for veterinarians by working in a clean office with friendly technicians who provided many treats for my baby and did everything they could to make him comfortable. Unfortunately, she died and we moved onto the next clinic in NYC who, while friendly, did not provide the above and beyond service the previous vet had.
Abdington Square does much of what my previous vet did. It has friendly receptionists and technicians who gained my dog’s trust instantly by feeding him treats. Dr. DeLorenzo was fantastic, telling me that their goal was to have their patients suffer the least amount of stress, which included providing treats during examinations and procedures, such as vaccinations and the taking of blood, as well as using minimal restraint. She encouraged me to bring my dog over even during non-​appointment times so he could create positive associations with the office and its smell. Also, it turned out that my dog needed his teeth cleaned, and she laid out for me all the options we had, while assuring me that their patients are always monitored while under anesthesia.
I am very excited that we finally found a clinic that clearly cares deeply about their patients. Now all I have to do is find a groomer who does the same!

We just moved to the area and didn’t yet have a vet, when my kitty developed some weird bumps on her neck. I’m a nervous mama, so I immediately checked Unilocal and chose Abingdon Square based on reviews. I’m so glad I did! They got us in the next day with Dr. Rose Burdon, who is a fantastic vet. You can tell she really loves animals. She spent nearly an hour with us, doing a general initial visit and taking a look at the bumps. Dr. Burdon took a very cautious approach to my kitty’s care, suggesting that we start slowly by changing cat foods, before we do anything like shots or a skin biopsy, which I very much appreciated. It turned out it was indeed just her food, and the spots were fine.
They asked that we come back in two weeks to take a look at how it was progressing. Dr. Burdon was out, so we saw Dr. Goldberg, who was equally capable and caring. I couldn’t be happier that we have this great clinic right nearby.

To say this is the best vet in NYC would be a massive understatement. There are indeed several great ones in addition to Dr. Delorenzo and her marvelous team, but definitely none better. I’ve had 3 different dogs as patients there from puppy age on and with injuries including getting hit by a car, getting mauled by a Pitbull and near renal failure, and they’ve all pulled through thanks to this clinic. Additionally Dr. Delorenzo’s bedside manner is amazing and always makes you feel at ease no matter how harrowing the situation might be. Even living in Brooklyn now I continue to take my dogs there over the multitude of others available locally. You should to.

We usually see Dr Burden, shes super nice and patient even though one of mine has a fear of the vets and usually causes a scene…
We’ve found her really helpful in explaining different options for vaccines/​other meds/​treatments and never pushes us into doing anything unnecessary that’d either cost too much for what we’d get out of it or would be unnecessary pain or over medicating for the dogs.

I took my 7 month old yorkie there for a check up. The staff was very friendly and Dr. DeLorenzo was very attentive, I could tell she genuinely cared about the well being of my pup. Very sadly and completely unexpectedly, I suddenly lost my puppy when she was struck by a car on the 4th of July. I was absolutely grief — stricken at the loss of the sweetest little yorkie. I had to contact the vet to let them know she wouldn’t be returning for the follow up appointment. Dr DeLorenzo called me back herself, and I also received a card expressing the deepest sympathies of the staff of Abingdon.
I recommend taking your loved pets here for quality and loving care. Once I heal and feel ready to once again become a dog parent, I will bring them here.

I’ve been bringing my cats to Diane DeLorenzo since she opened her practice here some 10+ years ago. She’s the best — knowledgeable, gentle, available, compassionate. In recent years she’s brought in Dr. Jessica Goldberg and Dr. Rose Burdon. I’ve consulted both of them as well and they meet the gold standard established by Dr. DeLorenzo. Their receptionists are helpful and reliable. The appointment time is accurate and I’ve rarely had to sit and wait to see the doctor. I’m grateful they are in the neighborhood.

Dr Delorenzo has been my vet for over 20 years and I have had many cats over the years. Since moving her practice to the 10th street location it has only gotten better. My two old cats are nervous but Dr. D is so gentle and soft with them, she even calls them honey bunny like I do. I trust her and her staff to always do what is in their and my best interest.

We have been going to Abingdon Square Vet for 5 years. Dr. Goldberg and Dr. DeLorenzo are absolutely amazing. They take great care of our dog and they are very patient and caring. My dog loves going to the vet, mostly because they treat her so kindly. We recently had a big health scare with our dog and the vets saw us in person, and spoke to us over the phone at length multiple times. They genuinely care about the animals that they treat!

I can officially say this is the best Veternarian. I have two cats and one dog they all have anxiety but my younger cat has severe anxiety. Usually she will pee, poop, throw up, or pant when she has to go to the vet. At all the other vets I have been to I would have to clean her up in the bathroom but that all changed when I went to Abingdon Square Clinic I was about to go get her cleaned when Dr. Golberg got her a towel and wiped her clean they even went out of their way to sanitize and clean her kennel. At the end of the visit they also were so kind to wash off the rest of the pee off of her. By that time my cat was much more comfortable that she even showed her belly.

I ended up at the Abingdon Square Veterinary Clinic when my usual vet had no free appointment times. My Sammy is a timid dog who doesn’t like the vet, but this was probably the best office visit she has ever had! The doctor was prompt and saw me at my scheduled appointment time, which was a pleasant surprise, because there is always a wait at any vet I go to!
Dr DeLorenzo was so caring towards Sammy. She refrained from undertaking any unnecessary procedures with her and approached my scared doggy with a gentle tone. She was able to diagnose and prescribe medication for Sammy in a short time, and the cost was affordable. I also liked her suggestion to bring the dog by on walks so that she will start thinking the vet is a happy place. Her kindness and her love of animals were so evident!
I was grateful for the caring approach this office took towards me and my dog. I could not have been happier with the service here. When Sammy next needs an appointment, Abingdon is the first office I will call. Thank you Abingdon!

Dr. Burdon and staff are the BEST! You can tell that they care about every single patient and really make sure that both you and your pet are comfortable when you visit, on the phone, etc. During every correspondence with them, they always ask how my pup is doing regardless of whether there was an issue/​illness/​etc or not. Each and every person I’ve come across at that office is very helpful and friendly, I would recommend them to anyone in the area.

Abingdon Square is great! My tiny pup gets sick often and I split my time between NYC and NJ. They are beyond accommodating when it comes to sending copies of EVERY BILL, RECORD, TREATMENT to my alternate vet and they always manage to fit me in when its most needed. The 3 vets are equally great– gentle, patient and truly love what they do. The office staff is also wonderful. Thank you Abingdon Square team!

Seriously amazing vet practice. My 11 year old cat had some bad periodontal disease and needed 5 tooth extractions. I was super nervous, but the team took such good care of him and he’s doing fantastically well. Everyone there is warm and helpful and honest and caring.

I’ve been taking my dog here ever since I moved here to NYC 3 ½ years ago. They are always SO kind and take excellent care of my dog. They were amazing when my cat died and I brought her to the office. They took care of filling out everything and making arrangements… all I had to do was sign something. I used this vet’s office for 3.5 years before I left New York. This is a really fantastic facility. They can make appointments really quickly, are open at great hours and just have great disposition. Everyone there is just super helpful. For example, now that I have moved, the transition of my file to a new vet in Seattle was seamless. When I needed a travel certificate, it was a breeze. Anytime I have ever had to go in, it has been a frictionless experience. I just wish doctors that served humans were this good!
