This review was from an experience in 2008. But when I finally got a Unilocal account, I knew this was the first review I had to make.
I have light eyebrows, and wanted to shape and dye them before heading off to start college. I was 18, and specifically mentioned that I wanted a natural look. HA. I ended up getting drag-​queen arches with a dye MUCH darker than anything natural because the lighter dye «wasn’t staying on my brows.» I am a girl with blond hair and ended up with dark dark brown brows. I cried all the way home. As in, actually cried on the street.
That afternoon, I went to get my hair straightened. I was so angry and upset that my hair-​stylist asked me what was wrong. I immediately answered the crappy eyebrow job that I had suffered through at Ajune. Immediately, the stylist responded, «Yeah, I didn’t want to say anything but it doesn’t look good.» She then offered to put peroxide on my brows to help them look more natural. So my hair stylist ended up putting bleach in my eyebrows.
When I got home, my parents were shocked and told me to go back to Ajune to have my brows reshaped. The shaping helped, but wasn’t enough to offset the plastic surgery look I was currently sporting. I was about to leave when all of a sudden the front desk asks me how I would like to pay. Because, YES, they were charging me to redo my eyebrows. In fact, it cost even more than I originally paid to fix it because they had to tweeze instead of wax. NEVER EVER EVER GO HERE. I know it sounds crazy that an eyebrow appointment can lead to so much drama, but you can see that I’m still bitter about it to this day – and my school photo id was a lasting reminder for four years. NEGATIVE STARS IF POSSIBLE.

I fairly recently moved the Upper East Side and was very pleased when I walked by Ajune Spa, it appeared clean and well kept and offered all the services I would require (laser hair removal, waxing, massage, facial, etc.). I made my first appointment and had an ok massage, not bad, not great but the staff was pleasant and it was clean, so I went back a second time for a facial and a manicure. This time around they made me wait for over 25 minutes when I was on time for my appointment, which then made me late for my second service, which they tried to cut short because «I was late.» Then the facialist spent the entire time trying to sell me on products, I was very turned off. Not long after I recieved a $ 200 gift certificate — who would be unhappy about that. There was no expiration date on it so I wasn’t worried about the timing. I just now called to use it and was informed that it was no longer valid. I told the young lady on the phone that there is no expiration date so that is not correct. She said, «sorry, call the organization that gave you the gift bag if you don’t like it.»
In this economy, we all have a choice about who we are giving our money to (even with a gift card I’m a 20% plus tipper) and I will never go to Ajune again. In my book if you make a commitment you honor it and since they won’t keep up their end of the bargain, I won’t give them any more business.
Try the sweet little spa just up the street on Third Ave/​70^th street, much nicer and they do a great job with everything.

Such a bummer, I used to love ajune but it has clearly gone down hill. About a year ago I went for a massage and was surprised to find the waiting room cramped and poorly stocked. Despite this I decided to go back and I had a facial this past Saturday. Well my skin is still completely broken out and I fear that I will have scars from the extraction performed by Leslie. I specifically told her my skin was sensitive and that I had scars from prior professional extractions. Instead of treading lightly, she did multiple extractions, all over including my cheeks and in some cases used her finger in some cases which I thought was a huge no no. Then to complete she put oil all over my face even though I told her my skin was very oily and that I used all oil free products. Never have I broken out as badly as this after this facial. I went in for a relaxing cleansing facial and I instead got little to no neck and shoulder massage and a terrible break out. Sad to say it but I will never set foot in ajune again.

Nice facility, customer service is good but thats it. I should’ve read the Unilocal reviews here before I went. Went for a waxing service, my technician clearly never did bikini waxes ever. Lied about being familiar with how to use hard wax and then burned me twice. Also refuse to tweeze after the service. Then when u left the room, I saw her complaining about me to her manager… Honestly? I straight up told her she needs to learn how to do her job first. Never been so angry and mortified in my life. DONT COME HERE FOR BIKINI WAXES!!!

Recently visited on a «Spa Rah Rah» 90 minute Seasonal massage special. Bought one for my fiancé too. They don’t have a «couples room» so we didn’t end up with quite the romantic treatment we were thinking of. The treatment rooms are ultra comfortable though. The changing area and relaxation room were clean and convenient. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Booking my appointment was also a breeze.
The «Seasonal» massage is a custom house blend of many styles such as hot stone, swedish and accupressure. Since we were heading to dinner afterward, we both requested to have the aromatherapy massage oil removed and they did not skimp on hot towel usage. My LMT had great hands and did a fine job working out the kinks in my shoulders and lower back. You will be asked if there are areas that you need to have them concentrate on and that’s always nice.
Over all, both my fiancé and I were happy with the experience for the price. I do not think we’ll be back for this massage at full price but I am looking forward to visiting again for other massage therapy.

Dr. Figlo was great and they have a wide variety of services and products.

I went to Ajune for the first time after purchasing a gift certificate from gilt group. I should have known if it is too good to be true it probably is.
The mani/​pedi was a rush job and not worth the money at all. I did not even feel relaxed b/​c the robes were so short I was nervous it would open giving a show for the entire lobby since the mani/​pedi chairs are in the check-​in area.
The facial was simply ok but the technician tried to convince me to pay more for a different facial and pressured me for at least 5 minutes until she finally accepted my NO.
The massage is what gives this review the 2 stars. It was enjoyable and the tech was very professional and nice.
I do not recommend going to this spa and probably won’t go back even with a discount.

Ajune was recommended by a friend, when I was looking for a semi-​affordable UES spot for a good facial. When I saw the Gilt coupon, i jumped on it! I was able to book easily, and the spa was clean and calming. My aesthetician was nice, and suggested a salicylic mask as an addition to my faical (extra $ 50). It was a cotton mask, and she sent it home with me so I could get a second application out of it. After searching for the mask online to see if I could order it, I found out it was SIX DOLLARS! After they’d charged me $ 50…I feel totally ripped off, and definitely won’t be going back!

I was not pleased with this place. First off the hostess had an attitude and the waiting room was super small with too many people. My cousin and I had gift certificates from our fashion week gift bags, so idk if thats what the problem was but my facial was half assed, and the 75 pedicure was less than good (my regular nail salon does a better job @ 25.00!!.) For the facial it seemed as though once she found out I had GC and was not going to purchase the 50.00 mask she rushed. I did not get a neck and shoulder massage as advertised in their menu. I’ve been to less expensive spas where I have gotten ALIST treatment. I would not recommend this place. They also should not give out services at half priced or free (in fashion week gift bags NO LESS!!!) if they are going to be annoyed you came to them as customer bc of that!

Not sure how I convinced myself to spend that much money on a pedicure (bad weather and it was close by? My birthday?) but the bottom line is this.
It was a nice thorough pedicure but not worth HALF of what I paid. Absolutely no different than any other decent pedicure I’ve had and not as luxurious as some I’ve splurged on for still a third of the price. Who are they kidding?
Maybe they give great facials or massages — I don’t know. But save yourself a lot of money and do not go there for a pedicure.

I’ve been to Ajune a handful of times, my sister goes at least once a month.
I usually get the Classic Ginger Massage, or Hot stone massage, my sis tries something new everytime.
The only negative about this place is the no-​show fee, but it’s understandable.
I love how the spa is decorated. the masseuses are professional and friendly. You wont be disappointed after leaving.

I’ve been to Ajune twice… to say that I live two and a half hours away from NYC says a lot I think.
Both times I have been for the Sonya Dakar facial with Naren. I was here for some serious work, not so much a relaxing spa visit and work did she do! My face was definitely a little red when I left but there was serious improvement!
I have been batteling skin problems since a young girl. I have had countless chem peels and smooth beam treatments at the dermatologists as well as used prescriptive washes and ointments all to no avail. Naren explained that my face is not acne but an allergic reaction.
It was so great to have someone really look at and inspect my face and not just the quick glance and flip of prescription that I usually get. A week before my wedding my face errupted… I thought my pictures were going to be hideous and that my husband was going to be disappointed to see me. I made an emergency appointment, drove in to Manhattan from Rhode Island and showed up to my wedding 5 days later with radiant skin! I SWEAR by Naren!
I will admit the relaxation/​waiting area attendants are confusing, the majority speak broken English and are not overly friendly/​informative. I was also given a little attitude when scheduling my «emergency» appointment but after explaining the situation the woman’s tone changed.
Side bar… Naren was right, it was my parent’s water softener that was/​is my problem… distilled water face washes now take place when visiting :)

I’m surprised the reviews are so mixed on here. I’ve been to Ajune two times for a bikini waxing and a facial. Both times, I had a great experience. They are a little overpriced, but I figure that’s how most nice spas are in Manhattan. I also get a corporate discount which helps.
The staff was very polite and the whole experience was very relaxing. I filled out a skin history form in the lounge where they had candles lit, mood music playing, and complimentary refreshments. The bikini wax wasn’t the greatest I’ve ever had, but it was alright and not too painful. The facials were amazing though! The chairs (or beds) you lay in are so comfortable! They dim the lights and have relaxing music playing in the background. They go through all the standard procedures and also give you a massage while your mask is setting. And best of all, I had the most BEAUTIFUL glow for days to come!

Wow — I guess Ajune has gone down-​hill since it’s opening in 2001.
When I went there (in the early 2000’s) I saw a great aesthetician named Cara for Astara facials.
They were (and are) always over-​priced — but that’s Dr. Romita’s doing. He was hoping to make it a medi-​spa and at one time had RNs on staff for «deeper» procedures.
They do carry some nice product lines. Receptionists are bitchy — in general — and always GREAT looking young girls.
If Cara is still there — ask for her — if not, try somewhere else. (Like Cornelia Day Resort)

I was taken by a gal pal to have their infamous «Microdermabrasian Pedicure» treatment as a surprise birthday gift to me.
When we entered, we were greeted and immediately checked-​in for our appointment. There wasn’t any snooty staffer’s and everyone we encountered was friendly and polite.
We were told to sit in their «relaxation room» to since we were a bit early for our pedicures. The «relaxation room» offered self-​serve tea and water and had little candles to set the mood.
We were both finally called and taken to these side-​by-​side pedicure stations. The women were older and although quite friendly (they smiled at us occasionally), were both serious about the process! The whole process was over in less than an hour.
Here’s a few reasons WHY my rating is so low:
The price for 2 «Microdermabrasian Pedicures», of which they are known for based on the write up in TimeOut NY is almost $ 100/​person. For that price, my friend and I DEFINITELY were NOT impressed w/​the service we received. We were not offered any tea or beverage during the pedicure process AND, when they were completed with our pedicures, BOTH women just told us to go to the relaxation room and LEFT us at the stations and walked away to never return!
Here is the reason WHY I am giving Ajune such a low rating. The woman who did my pedicure took WAY too much skin from my big right toe. It is STILL red, sensitive & hurting this morning which is ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE!
For the price, we didn’t get any extra services such as foot massages that made the pedicure any BETTER THAN a normal pedicure that charges $ 20 at a regular salon. We both felt it was WAY OVERPRICED for what seemed to be a very basic and unmemorable pedicure.

Convenient UES location & easy to find. The actual spa is beautiful and the waiting area pre-​treatment is lovely and calming with beverages and magazines.
While the woman who performed by waxing, Laura, is not incredibely warm or friendly, she knows her stuff and did an excellent job. Her speciality is eyebrows and I would recomend her to anyone — the spa advertises that she does/​has done celebs and I totally believe it.
The services run on the pricier side, so maybe reserve this spot for a gift or special occasion.

To be fair, I’ve only had my eyebrows and lip done here so I can’t rate the rest of their services. The atmosphere, décor, price of service suggest that they should be providing professional level services. I don’t feel that I received anything more than I what I would expect to get a my local nail salon. I arrived 10 minutes early and was shuffled into a sitting room. Not even having caught my breath and cooled down from the heat outside, my esthetician showed up and said she was ready. Nice that she was ready… I wasn’t! My appointment wasn’t to start for another 8 minutes and I would have appreciated some water (which was offered the other woman in the sitting room). I was in and out before my appointment time! There is a difference between hair removal and eyebrow shaping… this was a hair removal job. There was no attention paid to shaping an arch and symmetry. For $ 55, I could get lots of hair removed at a nail salon.
