I brought 2 pairs of pants, 4 shirts & a tank top to be tailored on May 31^st to Allen Tailoring in LES. I gave them plenty of time. I said I would be in June 14^th to pick them up. I went in June 15^th & they said they needed another day. I gave them another day and went in today June 17^th and guess what?! Still not ready. I was not happy. I said I wouldn’t be able to come back until June 30^th. I have been a loyal customer for years and I won’t be going back after this.

The best tailor their is in New York! Eduardo has altered numerous suits of mine. Never had an issue, they’re dry cleaning is exquisite, I don’t have any negative things to say about Allen Tailoring & Cleaner, they are simply the best on what they do. Thank you Eduardo so much for making me look superb! Eduardo again thank you so much for my new Custom Vest.

Don’t get this place mixed up with Eddie’s at 160 Allen Street! They did not properly hem the pants as requested and discussed.

After venturing around different tailor shops I’ve finally come across the one. And might I point out that I came across this place through the recommendation of this very stylish customer that I see on a daily basis and well she wasn’t wrong when she said «they are the best at what they do, and don’t be fooled by appearances»
P.s I’ve only had my pants hemmed so far..

They get the job done and the women that work there are dedicated to their work. They always chide me for coming in with my mother which actually makes the experience that much better when you are dropping off your laundry. Allen Tailoring is open 7 days a week as well which is really important to me. Definitely recommend this place if you live in the Lower East Side.

I went here through the recommendation of a stylish men’s shop to get a coat taken in around the waist. As others have mentioned, they SEEM to have friendly service and attitude, but it’s completely fake.
First, they wrote on the ticket that the price was $ 40 dollars and to return a week later on Monday. I came back Tuesday and was told they forgot about my coat and handn’t been able to tailor it and to come back the next day and that they wouldn’t discount the price at all.
I came back the next day and the coat seemed to have been done hastely. One side is uneven compared to the other and the shoulder wrinkles where it hadn’t before. Regardless, I was frustrated with the late date so I didn’t mention in, knowing they’d probably give me the go around and not want to fix anything unless at a premium.
I asked for a discount because it was 2 days late, but he continued to say that he was already giving me a great rate and that it was only $ 50!!! He upped the price from the original ticket to $ 50 from $ 40 and tried to convince me that he was giving me a good deal even AFTER being late by 2 days and doing a rushed job!
He himself admitted that he is swamped. That’s not the type of place you want to go to get nice clothes fixed up. Your work will be rushed and they really don’t care about your time frame.
Go somewhere else, save yourself the headache, the hassle, and the fake friendliness.

Extremely good tailoring! Had a suit that I bought from one of the made to measure online outfits, but it needed some serious fixing. The quickly undid the shoulders, refitted the suit and turned it back around in 3 days. Great service and expertise. It’s worth the money!

I have been going to Allen Tailoring (Eduardo) for a few years now and have lost count of how many of my friends (at least 15) I have sent there… all of them are as satisfied as I am. One of my friends that used to make her own clothes comes from New Jersey to use their tailoring services because they are that good and another one of my «fussy» friends also thinks they are the best… for the price of alterations, you are definitely getting more than your money’s worth. On the Upper East Side where I live, not only are there very few tailors but the prices are outrageous and their work is not that good. Eduardo has made me a very popular woman with all my friends. I have even sent young men I work with to have suits altered and they too loved the work. In addition, Eduardo is one of the nicest, kindest, people that you get to meet when dealing with those offering a service. I never find it too far to go there from East 78^th Street since they do the best work.

This tailor came highly recommended by my friend. I brought in a suit to be tailored as I lost a lot of weight. For $ 140, they trimmed the suit’s sides, shortened the suit sleeves and cut the shoulder length to line up with my shoulder blades as well as adjusting the pants. It was very expensive, but I was happy with the alterations.
The only issue I had was when I first tried on the altered suit, I was pricked by a needle in one of the sleeves. They forgot to complete the job on that sleeve as the needle and thread were still there!
One can say I was lucky to get stabbed by the needle or else I wouldn’t have noticed the incomplete job. They quickly corrected the issue. While the suit came out nice, I was turned off by the service and price.

Been going here for about a year now and I finally have given up. They loose items all the time, you wait like 20 min when you go to pick things up because they have no organization system to log what is coming in and what is going out. Plus they don’t pick up or deliver and in a city where you can get anything delivered that is a huge surprise. Also I am now finding out they are significantly more expensive the place across the street. The only reason I gave them 2 stars rather then 1 is because they do a decent job at cleaning your stuff.

I was so excited to get recommended to this tailor and hear so many good reviews about Eduardo. He was really sweet. Looked at the worn out elbows of my sweater and said they would put on some oval leather patches. Sounded cool to me!
So it was supposed to be ready on a Tuesday but I came on Friday, thinking then they’d have an extra few days. Well it still wasn’t ready. Not even close. It was stuffed in a random pile of sweaters with no work done on it whatsoever.
Unfortunately I needed it to take on a trip so I had to wait for them to do the work. I think this probably led to the work being of slightly lower craftsmanship than usual. The sewing isn’t as good as I’d expect and some of the patch is a little wrinkly. Plus I was late to work and waiting made it that much worse. He offered me a small discount — $ 15 instead of the $ 20 I owed — which helped but I was really disappointed in the organization.

Eduardo is the owner, and he’s wonderful. I have virtually all my clothes altered in some way because I’m so tiny, and when I moved down to DC a year ago, I figured I’d just find a new tailor down there. But no one could come close to Eduardo’s prices or quality.
So now I wait until I come up to NYC to visit friends and bring all my alterations with me. He’s able to turn then around literally over a weekend.

This review is for Allen Tailoring’s tailor service and not dry cleaning. Despite the negatives reviews from other Unilocalers, I decided to come here based on the recommendation of a friend who travels from midtown just to get her and her husband’s stuff altered here. At first my fiancé and I would only take our pants for simple shortening. A few months later we have both increasingly trusted this place for bigger jobs such as patching holes in jeans, taking in the sides of shirts, and shortening sleeves. The biggest benefit is their prices are really reasonable: $ 5 for simple hems to $ 12 for original jean hems. It seems that this place has a lot of repeats from what I can tell from their interaction with the customers. In fact, gradually I have become a repeat myself! Word of advice: if you need something by a certain date, be very clear about it. I’ve had things that I absolutely needed to be done the next day, and they honored it. But other times, if I seem like I’m not under any deadlines, they ended up not ready on the agreed date. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for simple jobs (which happens often for me). I wouldn’t take my wedding dress to get altered there, though. But that just doesn’t happen very often anyways!

As nice as these «cleaners”/“tailors» come off, their service and craftsmanship are quite poor. I’ve lived nextdoor to them for a year and figured it was just easier to take my dry cleaning and alterations there. Big mistake, not all cleaners and tailors are created equally.
I would say out of all the dry cleaning I took there, for myself and my boyfriend, he had to send about 50% of the items back to «redo», since the first attempt didn’t actually clean anything. Most of the time, the second attempt would work (after waiting over a week…) but not every time, and he said that the stains couldn’t come out because it was MY FAULT. Fine, I don’t think I should be charged if you can’t even provide the service.
Next big issue is the fluctuating costs. Sometimes I would take a dress shirt in and he’d charge $ 3.50 (which is already expensive, but ok) and then other times I would take other dress shirts in and he charged me $ 9!!! FOR ONE DRESS SHIRT!!! OUTRAGEOUS. I asked him why, and he said «because it’s a woman’s shirt, just give me $ 7». WHY SEVEN DOLLARS?! What happened to $ 3.50? I told him he changed the prices every time I dropped stuff of, which was very frequent, and he said «nooooo, that’s not true» but obviously it was. There are no posted prices for dry cleanings or tailoring, so BE WARE. Ask in advance, and don’t let him swindle you into paying inflated prices for sub par quality work.
Tailoring is a whole other issue. Basic alterations like hemming pants and skirts are fine, even I can do that myself at home if I wanted to. But my boyfriend took a new Theory blazer in to shorten the sleeves a little bit and somehow came back with the most careless and incompetent tailoring job I have ever seen. They charged him $ 20 for the sleeves, which would be perfectly acceptable had they done a decent job. But what they did was literally cut off about 2 inches of the sleeves and hemmed it. They did not move any buttons or try to even make the blazer look wearable. They left 2 out of the 3 buttons and the bottom button was literally hanging off the edge of the sleeve where they hemmed it. What kind of careless, not to mention RUDE, tailor would ever do that to a brand new Theory blazer? And then to have the gall to charge $ 20?!
I’m glad I moved out of the LES and I will never be going back to this so-​called tailor/​cleaners again. Hands down the worst!!!

They are right under my building, so I used them for the first six months or so that I lived here.
Alterations were no problem and cheap.
Dry cleaning was a mess: not only did they ALWAYS take longer than they said they would– and I’m talking like three extra days– THEY LOST A DRESS OF MINE, AND THEY NEVER FOUND IT.
Trying to get it back from them was impossible because they send all the garments off-​site and now I’m in the market for a new dry cleaner.
Tailoring, OK, but I’m never dry cleaning with them again.

Good tailoring done here. The prices are very reasonable (which makes up for the fact that the work is often not ready by the promised date). I recommend them.

I’m a short gal, so, nearly all of my pants have to be hemmed. This is a pretty easy, quick thing to do, but many places overcharge and won’t have your item (s) ready for days.
Thank goodness for Allen Tailoring. They are fast, reliable and the prices are really reasonable (around $ 5 for hemming). They’ll even hem your pants while you wait if you ask.
They also match the thread they use for alterations with the original thread used on the garment. Sounds like an obvious thing to do, but I’ve been to some places who don’t even bother to do this.
