Amour De Hair

Horrible service. Went to this salon to have my roots colored. Color was applied and left on for way too long, and the color was dreadful, in fact, my hair turned green and I was horrified. Asked for my money back but instead got extremely rude answers. Had to go to another salon to get the color corrected which cost quite a lot. Called the salon numerous times to speak to manager and was told that she was out of town and would call me. She never called. Called back and was told the owner would call me. The owner never called. Called back and the receptionist was more rude than ever and actually hung up, this is the worst service I have ever had. First, they destroy your hair, and then they lie saying that they will call you back. I’m disgusted and appalled at the lack of care or concern. This is a dishonest place and the culture of terrible customer service. Stay away !!! Should lose their license

I rarely give bad reviews for businesses but I had such an awful experience at this salon. Terrible customer service. They will also deceptively sneak in additional charges without informing you. Lady at the front desk (I believe she might be the manager but not sure) was a nightmare to deal with. I would never come back here again and would never recommend to others.

The sign said «amazing hair cuts $ 29.» I needed a cut badly, I went in to inquire!
I liked the fact that they were able to take me in with out an appointment, I asked if they can do it with out washing it? That was okay with the stylist too. I liked the fact that the stylist never got personalize and ask a million question. But introducing himself and asking for my name would have been fine. I also liked the fact that they didn’t try to sell me coloring and other products like they usually do at salons. I was done in 15 minutes, I was very pleased about that. But back to their advertising by the door for amazing haircuts, I’m not sure about that. It’s just a cut and I don’t find anything amazing about it! Or perhaps I’m at that stage of life that I’m done with looking amazing!

DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. I went to this salon asking for my hair to be colored a medium golden blonde. The hairdresser who clearly did not choose the right color or should have at least color tested my hair, made my hair a dark brown/​gray color. It literally never looked as terrible before. I had even shown him a photo of what I wanted. The other people who worked in the salon had to try to fix it but literally half of my hair broke off. Even the other stylists at the salon could not believe what he had done to my hair. He stormed out when I wasn’t pleased, and said «You guys can deal with her.» It was unfortunately the absolute worst hair color nightmare I could have even though of. Now, a month later, after spending thousands of dollars to try and get it color corrected after they messed it up, I finally have the right color, but it is so damaged that it will take a good year for it to be somewhat like it was again. Not only that, but they actually still made me pay for it! AND, they shouldn’t have tried to fix it if they couldn’t guarantee that they could or that it would stay in tact. The guy that messed it up is named Basam. He had an attitude problem before the mistake even occurred. I think he must have been having a bad day. He was complaining about me before I even said I didn’t like my hair to someone else in front of me as he was washing it out. Saying something like that he told me to not move my head, as though my tilting my head shortly had anything to do with him using the wrong color and making my entire head of hair look AWFUL. He then lied and said he was talking about his wife, not me. Either way– very unprofessional. I wish I could sue them to be honest. I think I will need extensions at this point which will cost me even more. It seemed like a good deal to go there. BIG MISTAKE. It has cost me more than I had ever though. A word to the wise– go somewhere else. Don’t walk, RUN.

I’ve been getting my hair cut and colored by Danielle for several years and it always turns out great. I like to change my hair style and color frequently, and even when I haven’t always known exactly what I wanted, she always has great suggestions and does an amazing job. Danielle has given me bangs and layers and braids and dyed my hair red, blonde and even pink! I am moving in several months, but I will still be venturing back to the upper east side for all my hair needs.

Didn’t enjoy my experience here. I was a walk in. Sonya cut and colored my hair. She wasn’t personable at all. She has a know it all attitude that I wasn’t impressed with. She got way too much hair color on my face, ears and neck. The shampoo girl had to scrub and scrub to get it all off. I don’t like the cut at all, and when she was finished there was no, how do you like it, or a thanks for coming in here’s my card, she simply turned to her next client and didn’t say a word. Almost as if she thought she was just that good that I should be that blown away by what she did. I left her way too much for a tip … Very rude!

I am hair obsessed, (as you all know by now) and take my blow-​outs very seriously :)
Had a last minute business dinner –my stylist is on vacation, everyone else was booked and I had less than 2 hours. Decided to throw caution to the wind and walked down 3^rd knowing I pass a million salons everyday and I find Amour de Hair. It was midweek and still early afternoon, so I take a chance and just walk in.
I waited less than 10 minutes for Carlos. Now I will admit that Carlos is not the «chatty type» which is actually fine as I have absolutely no desire to make small talk.
But I do wish he had at least introduced himself (a big pet peeve of mine)
He asked if it were okay if he use product, and what time of brush I prefer. I get the feeling he knew I was a hair bitch, but total extra points for Carlos! More importantly, he was quick and my hair look fab!
I have no intention of cheating on my regular stylist of 10 years but in a pinch so happy I found Carlos at Amour. Definitely would reccomend!

All I’m going to say is you get what you pay for. At $ 29 for a shampoo and cut how could you go wrong? SMH.
All I wanted was three inches cut off, that’s all I asked for. But wait, my stylist cut it crooked. The right side was shorter than the left by at least half an inch.
Cue up the next day. So, I went back which literally took two hours out of a very busy day. She’s like, «Yep, you’re right. It is indeed crooked.» And so she shampooed, cut and effing cut it crooked AGAIN!
So, what did I do when I got home? I took out my scissors which is what I should have done in the first place and evened it out. Needless to say, I am sorely looking forward to the next several months to fly by so it grows in and I can go to a professional salon for an even trim.

While the stylists are ok the policy of this salon is very unfair. I asked a stylist for a non sulfate shampoo (had my hair relaxed) that could repair damaged hair. She suggested one for me and I paid $ 27 dollars. I called the company Aveno and they said it did have sulfate. When I brought it bad to exchange or get a credit, the owner refused and said basically, too bad! The desk receptionist was condescending and the stylist refused to acknowledge she did recommend it. Will never go into this upper east side salon again nor will my friends. Bad business policy, bad customer relations.

I stopped in here on a whim after seeing the $ 29 cut and shampoo special. The woman at the front desk was a bit brusque with me, just sort of being rude. But I was able to be seen right away, and the stylist really listened to what I wanted. Since I was keeping my current style, he spent some time making sure he knew exactly how my last stylist had cut it. He did exactly what I wanted, and was perfectly fine with making the changes I requested. The salon is a bit loud and not the cleanest I’ve ever been in (but it was by no means disgusting), but I was happy with my hair by the time I left, and the price is pretty unbeatable for NYC.

This place is terrible. Really dishonest and shameful. We were in a jam and they quoted me one price to blow my daughters hair and then charged her more after I left. Went back to clarify that it wasn’t a misunderstanding (it never occurred to me they would be so brazenly dishonest) and they denied they quoted me the first price. They also play the «sorry there is no manager» game so you can never speak with anyone that’s in charge. They also don’t take AMEX so disputing the charge is a bigger pain in the neck. Needless to say we won’t be going back to such a miserable place… and they didn’t even do a good job.

If you care about your hair don’t go to this place. The worst. I went to this place a few years ago to get my highlights done and they turned yellow after one washing. I recently decided to give it one more chance and went for a hair cut and it was not at all what I wanted. The stylist was supposed to be the best at the salon. Low quality, poor skills. Even the girls who washed my hair did a terrible job. I went home and cut my own hair with paper scissors and did a better job than this senior stylist form Amour De Hair. I think that the stylists are underpaid and therefore don’t try hard to make costumers satisfied. Everything about this place seems sleazy!

I recommend Amour De Hair for the price and efficiency of the services. I found this salon by accident one day. All I needed was a haircut but the stylist sold me on getting highlights and I ended up with the hair of my dreams! You see, I had been growing out a really awful home dye job and my hair was severely damaged and two different colors. I just really was at a loss as what to do with it. Well, I’m glad I took the chance. I went back again for a root touch up and the place was very busy. I had asked to have my eyebrows done but they forgot… bummer. It was busy in there, I didn’t want to stress the people out by reminding them. The price is approximately a third of what you’d pay at a higher end salon and the results are better! I would give them 5 stars expect it is so busy inside you can get lost in the shuffle.

I recently had my first haircut with Kirk. He was patient and listened to my concerns from prior haircuts. He left everything even and my angles were cut symmetrically. He gives a great haircut at a reasonable price, especially for NYC. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on my great cut.

I did the walk in, cut, no dry and it was great. Granted, I have long, plain brown hair and only wanted a trim, nothing too crazy. But I waited about 5 minutes to get my hair washed and then the stylist cut it quick. She asked me if I wanted highlights or something more but didn’t push me when I said no. I’ll definitely go back here to get my hair cut again. It’s cheap and quick!

I only had a blow dry done here and that was okay. I am not sure about more involved things like haircut or coloring. I would do much more research before deciding to do those here. But if you just want nice hair for a night out they are okay and conveniently in my area.

This place always stood out to me walking home from the subway, nice lighting and décor, Kerastase products lining the shelves. I tend to spend more money at a nice salon for my color and go somewhere affordable for my cut. It’s pretty simple, so doesn’t seem worth the money.
Let me start with the positive: my hair cut was decent. I’ve had better, but it’s not a devastatingly bad cut.
However, the place is VERY average. First of all, there is a huge sign that says cut and blow dry for $ 55. I sit down and «Marina» starts working and then tells me since my hair is long it will be $ 65. I don’t really mind the extra $ 10, but the false advertising seemed manipulative and turned me off. Next, she puts me in the chair for the wash. I’m pleased to get a nice, high end product wash after seeing lots of nice shampoos, etc. But they pull out these godawful gallon jugs of something that it looks like they would use in a jail or something. I’m talking bottom of the barrel. It made Suave look like Shu Uemura. I realize that they just apparently sell the high end products and use junk for styling products and shampoo/​conditioner. I didn’t even think you could do that.
The experience was entirely average and I left with a $ 75 cut… not that cheap. I felt very deceived by the way the salon advertised itself. Will never go back. I’m just glad I was getting a trim and not experimenting with color…

One of the three UES locations was recommended to me, and after searching around I decided to stop in. The website advertises correctly, their walk-​in prices are far different from setting up an appointment, and the discount can really be worth the wait. Stopping in on a Saturday afternoon, I was fully prepared to wait a while, but they actually saw me right away and whisked me away for my wash and cut.
Nikki seemed to really understand what I wanted and didn’t insist on any strange treatments, styles or add-​ons. She did a great job and I’m totally happy. I have very seemingly manageable, straight hair but for whatever reason, people just can’t get it right sometimes. I got exactly what I wanted. And as UES salon prices go, $ 26 plus tip was more than worth it. Nikki was great, but any of the stylists appear perfectly fine (but I can’t say firsthand).

Tried Amour de Hair bc I had just moved to the UES and needed a new place for my hair cuts and blow outs. I love my hair so I do not mind paying higher prices for good quality service. Honestly, the prices here are not really too high, i would say more moderate when compared with other places. By chance I was given Kirk, who I was blessed to find. He is a pro! Whatever I tell him to do he listens and I always end up with the exact hair style I want. I honestly can say he is the reason I always return here. I highly recommend him!

This salon is the worst ever. Not only do they do a bad job – they are petty and very unprofessional.
They gave me a terrible service and I disputed it with my credit card company with all supporting documentation. The owner of the salon wrote to my credit card company and completely lied and said nasty things about me to try to get them to reverse the card.
This guy is out for blood and has some big fangs! Pure Evil!
