Got the red velvet, devil’s and the one with pink frosting. They’re all delish! I’ve been meaning to visit this place and today I got the chance to try their cakes. I am very impressed. Though, the staff could smile a little. They’re working at a place that sells cake all day, what’s not to be happy about? :)

My favorite slice of Red Velvet Cake in NYC! Amy’s Bread does it perfectly! The cake is so melt-​in-​your-​mouth delicious, and the buttercream is just the right amount of sweet and silky! It’s really great!

Fast moving line to grab a few lattes and some sweets. The raspberry gluten free linzer was wonderful, fresh, & flaky. The brownie with/​without nuts was like one made at home. Give this local place a try!

Everything looked delicious, but all I really wanted was a hot beverage and a place to sit. So I ordered a hot chocolate (~$ 4.50) and a cheese biscuit ($ 2.25). Both were pretty good. The cashier person didn’t ask me if I wanted it to stay or to go. Nor did anyone ask me if I would like my biscuit warmed up. This didn’t really bug me, but I did overhear them offer to toast someone else’s cheese biscuit. Oh well, by then I had already gobbled it up.
The hot chocolate was delicious, nice & hot, but not too hot. I would have liked my hot chocolate in a mug instead of a to-​go cup, since I was drinking it then and there and I didn’t want to create more waste. Also, for the price I wish it had a marshmallow or something.
The café has plenty of seating and looks like a nice quiet place to get some work done. I appreciate the artwork on their bags. It’s nice whenever a food establishment prints something on their bags as opposed to using plain Thank you bags.
I probably would have liked the place more if I had ordered cake or something. I’ll have to keep this place in mind when I am in the mood for cake.

Main goal of ladies who work there to make everybody feel miserable.
They being rude every time they have a chance and they aren’t missing it.
It’s not one time accident, me and my classmates going to school cross the street, that is why we buy food at this place every day. So for past months, since they changed staff i wasn’t treated nice no one time. They joke about people and being sarcastic during people ordering what they want.
I like style of the company and their food, but I can’t take this rudeness anymore. I’m their regular customer and I deserve at least fake smile, though it never happened.
On the other hand, there are place next door, the same company, very nice, girls who work there always smiling and being friendly, offering to help with your choice.
I wish something will change soon.

There are lots of great things to get at Amy’s Bread. For example, they have a Swedish, Christmastime bread that’s hard to find other places in the city.
For my latest stint, two friends and I got a slice of carrot cake. It was so moist and delicious. The frosting-​to-​cake ratio was also right on.
Unfortunately, one of the people working here dropped a near-​empty espresso cup, which bounced and got some espresso stains on my friend’s camel jacket. Luckily, we were able to get them out quickly with water, and he was super apologetic. (He also offered a loaf of bread on the house and money for a Tide pen.) I mention this because there are lots of ways to handle a situation like this, and I think they did a great job under the circumstances.
It’s often packed in the back, but see if you can stay awhile and enjoy their baked goods.

I stopped by today to pick up some bread for Christmas brunch. They were basically out of everything so I just got some breadstick twists. I asked the girl at the counter if they had more in the back. She was a little rude and said no they didn’t. I had one of the twists and it was pretty hard like it was stale. I’m bummed. I’ve been dying to try this place and I wasn’t really impressed.
And to update: they were stale and unimpressive. I can’t believe I paid almost $ 20 for that crap.

Delicious cakes!
I ordered two to celebrate the birthdays of my co-​workers — a yellow cake with pink frosting and a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Both were moist and melt-​in-​your-​mouth delicious. One person at the party even commented that they smelled really good.
It was very easy for me to special order by phone. Very friendly service. They will write on the cake for you for free and one of the names I gave them has a slightly different spelling so I was relieved when the cakes arrived and both names were spelled right. They do deliver. My 9-​inch round cakes cost $ 50 each and the delivery charge was $ 15, in total including tip I paid $ 122, which was well worth it to have these gorgeous cakes delivered to the office.
As I was cutting the cakes, the chocolate was crumbling really badly, but the yellow cake was holding up better. Both cakes were adorable and looked very high-​end. If you are trying to surprise a special someone or need a really good quality cake, Amy’s Bread is a winner, I’d highly recommend them!

This one was a little limited, so I think Chelsea Market will be my normal location from now on. They service at that CM is wayyy better as well.

The carrot and olive oil cakes at Amy’s Bread are to die for! I usually scrape off some of the frosting from the carrot cake, and it still tastes delicious. The olive oil cake is so moist — I believe they added in orange zest to give it a kick. The red velvet cake is good as well, but not as special as the other two. Slices are gigantic, so it’s best to share with a friend or save some for later. I wasn’t a fan of the olive stick, since I expected it to be more soft and bread-​like, but the flavor and bits of olive were good. Their loaves of bread are high quality, and I only wish they could pre-​slice it for you. Overall a great spot in the neighborhood for freshly baked goods.

A lovely little café for a mid-​afternoon sugar pick up. The cupcakes were great (not too sweet, but super rich) and they have excellent sourdough bread. There are a few chairs in the back to sit down, but the pathway between the counter/​cashier/​wall is very narrow. You will bump into people who are ordering while juggling your sweet treats.
Stop by if you are in area, but don’t make an Amy’s Bread pilgrimage.

Picture the perfect grilled cheese. Toasted for 4 minutes until the cheddar forms those ughnnn-​worthy strings, stuffed with tomatoes, cilantro, and onions, and finished off with a dollop of chipotle spread. The smell of warm bread wraps around the entire store, and even the out-​of-​towner who snapped, «Who pays $ 7 for a grilled cheese?» flares his nostrils. Yes, take it in, because this is what laughably high rent, narrow grocery store aisles, and the MTA announcer’s daily mumbles will get you.
The next part is on me — instead of devouring it on the spot and asking for another one to go, I hauled that sucker up a few avenues over and 30-​something blocks north, let it serve as air freshener for my apartment for a few minutes, and then stuck the poor thing in my fridge. It will be good the next day, I obliviously thought to myself.
Well, it was still good, but definitely not AS good as it undoubtedly was right out of the toaster (which, I mean, a toddler could tell you the same thing). I’ve made it my mission to go back this weekend to try the real thing, and maybe the other cheese sandwich on the menu.
The one thing that did chew my goat was the $ 5 tiny baguette with a smidgen of brie. Sorry, baguettine. Francophiles, is this really a thing? I thought all baguettes had to be at least an average-​sized person’s wingspan.
Come before 7 pm — they run out of the really good sandwich options early on.
NEXT TIME: croissant, chocolate Devil cake, chocolate bread twist, vanilla cupcake.
[Also, this is not related to the caliber of their baked goods, but the staff was really kind with a homeless lady who wanted some tea — they insisted it was on the house.]

Hands down the best slice of cake I have ever tasted.
My boyfriend and I created a long list of restaurants, mostly bakeries, that we wanted to try during our visit to the city. I added Amy’s Bread to my list after I read on a blog that their yellow cake with pink frosting is to die for. Amy’s Bread has several locations throughout the city, so I was super happy when we just happened to come upon their Hell’s Kitchen location. We had just eaten a very large meal, so there was no way I could even handle a bite of cake. I still had to try it though, so I had them box it up for me so that I could take it with me and eat it for breakfast the next day… Breakfast of champions, I know.
I was super excited to enjoy my slice of cake that next morning. I opened up the plastic container and took in the wonderful sweet aroma. The first bite was mind blowing. I can’t even describe the flavors, but just know that they were amazing! The cake was unbelievably moist. The slice was huge, but I managed to finish it all. I even wished I had had another. I will definitely grab another slice the next time I am in the city!

Amy’s Carrot Cake was selected several years ago as NYC’s best Carrot Cake so naturally I had to try a slice.
The Carrot Cake was good, but I think I’ve had better. The cake portion was interestingly textured, a little denser and a tad grainy for a cake; I liken it more to a bread than a cake.
Notably the cream cheese frosting was the perfect sweetness level for me.
However I found the frosting a little stiff despite letting the cake warm to room temperature after being in the refrigerator.
Definitely Devil’s Food Cake was the better of the cake duet, but admittedly I’m a chocoholic.
Cake was very moist and the had a excellent semi-​sweet flavor. The chocolate frosting was not too sweet and was softer/​smoother than the cream cheese frosting in the Carrot Cake.
I paired the cake with a nice cold glass of milk and it was a nice dessert.
Black & White cookie was just okay. I found both the vanilla and chocolate flavors very nondescript; almost muted/​restrained.
Cookie portion was excellent though, slightly crumbly but still enough integrity to stay intact after breaking the cookie into pieces to eat.
Overall I was left a little disappointed as I had really high expectations for Amy’s Bread (especially the Carrot Cake) but am left feeling nothing I ate was special enough to warrant making a specific trip to this bakery.

After 2-​day-​of-​sweet-​treat, I am not sure if I should go for another day 3 session of sweet treats. But the lust of sweets and the weird situation that my friends place had no food for breakfast, we decided to have another tour of sweetwonder land.
Amy’s bread is today’s pick.
Location: between 46^th and 47^th street in hell’s kitchen neighborhood. From my perspective, this is a store mostly serving local resident. From the opposite street, I could based on its ancient decoration to locate the store. And when I stepped in the store, the pictures on the wall confirmed my speculation that this is a bakery store with a long history. I looked through the picture and felt like I went back to those old time.
Service: Pretty quick. Although there was only one serving at the bakery, she was working really fast. I really appreciate her efforts to work fast because this is a quality most stores do not have.
Bakery: Delicious. I had pitaschio twist, sticky bun, and non-​fat applesauce doughnut.
Pitaschio twist was really and well balanced. It was long and really feed my craving for sweets. I wish I could have another one but I need to try the sticky bun, which remarks as the best in town. I was really suspected by the statement. Normally, such statement would only lead to disappointment. However, luckily, this is not the case here. I love the sticky bun. It is not too sweet and but dried at all. I love the transfermation between bun and pecan. The taste is very smoothy transferred. At the end, non-​fat applesauce doughnut was my last one. At that point, I was pretty full. But I still had a bite of doughnut. I am never a fan of doughnut but I think the sauce is great, I finished the sauce part. Highly recommend.
Overall, it is a 4.5 for a sunday bite in hell’s kitchen neighborhood. I love the quality and the sticky bun.

The black and white cookies are incredible. I’ll just start with that…
Being an out of towner, we wanted to go somewhere that wasn’t packed with tourists for breakfast. I found Amy’s on Unilocal and it’s only a few blocks from our hotel so we decided to check it out.
The inside is incredibly narrow and the door pushes into the bakery, so be careful you don’t slam it into someone accidentally. When we left there was a line outside, with people waiting until there’s enough space on the other side of the door too finally open it and go in.
You stand in line inside next to the case fief with all their goodies, and actual loads and rolls on the back wall. They have cupcakes, cake, lunch items (wraps and salads), then things like hot cross buns, sticky buns (yum), pan au chocolate, macaroons, etc.
we ultimately got 4 items each because we wanted to try everything. All the items were good, pretty standard, but the black and white cookie was phenomenal!!!
There are small two person tables in the back behind the counter where you pay so don’t think it’s only to-​go (which it may first seem like when you step inside).

Amy’s Bread is one of the best bakeries in New York City! They make every loaf by hand using traditional European methods. The result is crusty, chewy, and moist bread like French baguette, sourdough, and rye! In addition to the bread, Amy’s also features morning pastries, cookies, cakes, salads, and sandwiches.
My favorite sandwich is the vegetarian N.Y. State Goat Cheese. In between the perfectly crusty French baguette are roasted tomato, eggplant, black olive tapenade, and fresh thyme. The portions are a bit small, so be sure to savor each and every bite!

I am a big fan of Amy’s Bread. They have a nice assortment of breads and pastries. The staff is very friendly and eager to describe the various treats they sell.
We especially like the challah bread with cinnamon sugar, the croissant and chocolate croissant. Their focaccia is a favorite of my daughters.

Für amerikanische Verhältisse eine tolle Brotauswahl. Immer gerappelt voll, man sollte möglichst früh da sein und einen der wenigen Tische ergattern. Auch die Bedienung ist pures Entertainment :-). Die Bäckerei war nicht weit von unserem Hotel entfernt, so dass wir sie mehrfach besucht haben. Für New Yorker Verhältnisse auch für uns noch tragbare Preise. Der Kuchen ist ebenfalls klasse. Wer mal die Möglichkeit hat es zu erleben, nix wie hin.

Oh cette boulangerie, si je n’avais pas voulu tester plein d’autres adresses je crois bien que j’en aurai fait mon QG pour le petit déjeuner !
Dans tout ce qu’on a pu goûter j’ai particulièrement adoré :
— le Sticky bun, bien costaud
— un muffin au bon goût de canelle
— l’Almond brioche toast, une sorte de pain perdu généreusement parfumé à l’amande, un peu comme un bostock en fait (2,50 $)
— le chocolat chaud (4,25 $) excellent et fort en chocolat (testé sans l’ajout des chamallows maison mais c’est possible aussi), en tout cas bien meilleur que chez son voisin Star*****
