Established in 1994.

Andrea Arden has written five books including Dog Friendly Dog Training (Wiley, 2007), Train Your Dog the Lazy Way (Macmillan, 1999), and The Little Book of Dog Tricks (IDG, 2002). She has been the behavior columnist for Dog Fancy and The New York Dog magazines as well as a contributing writer for the AKC Gazette, Modern Dog and numerous other publications.

Andrea has served on the Board of Directors of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Animal Haven Shelter and Sanctuary.

Andrea is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer through the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers as well as a Certified Pet Partners Team evaluator for the Delta Society and the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen test. She is the director of Andrea Arden Dog Training, and was named the best dog trainer in New York by New York, W, Time Out and Quest magazines as well as the Daily News.

Oh my. My dog Lee Roy is 11 years old (border collie mix/​shelter dog).
He has always had a barking problem.
It was exacerbated when we moved up town. He wouldn’t even let me leave the apartment without out barking wildly/​in a frenzy. Not good for me/​the neighbors and definitely not good for him/​his well-​being.
Out of desperation I decided to work with a trainer. I didn’t know what to expect after one 1 ½ hour session with Kristi.
She was very patient and gave me great skills to work on with my dog. I was amazed at what I was really doing wrong.
I got wonderful results after 1st visit. Don’t get me wrong it will be a process with my dog. He is much more calm and relaxed. I now know how to move forward to make Lee Roy as comfortable as possible in our new environment.
I know now that you can treat an old dog new tricks.
I have decided to schedule a follow-​up/​reinforcement session in about 2 weeks. (I want to show off our progress!) Hopefully I will learn new tricks too!

We brought Trip, our 4 month old Wheaten puppy to Puppy Kindergarten and worked with trainer Mike Lustig. Mike trained us (and the puppy) with calmness, consistency and a warmth that made the hour fly by. Every week we go through (hands on) what we did last week and build our skills. With all the expenses of getting a puppy, it would be easy to scrimp on training — don’t! I absolutely recommend this 6-​week class. For one thing, it gives my husband and me a third party to defer to, in the appropraite care of our pup! Mike is very patient and knowledgable. What we learned has made our puppy happier and crystal clear about what we want from him.
and p. s. — the 91st Street location is upstairs at DogSpa. We left Trip here in Doggie DayCare one day and he cried half the way home! He goes nuts when we show up for class, can’t wait to get inside.

I am so happy I signed up for the puppy classes! It was the best $ 350 I have spent and worth every penny and more. Our trainer was Mike Lustig and he was phenomenal. I know for a fact that my Goldendoodle would not be as obedient as he is now if not for this class. I cannot wait to take the next level obedience class and learn more with my puppy. The puppy play groups are also a must! For all dog owners I cannot recommend this place enough!

I have a 4.5 month old terrier mix that is an incredible ball of energy and fun… but was in need of some help learning manners! We recently completed the puppy class with Kimberly, which truly helped. Having an 8.5 year old dog already, I was a bit skeptical about taking a puppy class… what would I really learn? I was completely proven wrong. I learned how to structure and build upon the training in an effective way so that my puppy could learn the basics, install verbal commands on top of gestures and start to learn impulse control. It definitely takes commitment on our part to consistency train her throughout the week, but I can really say that this class helped our easily distracted puppy start to learn how to behave and focus. I think Kimberly was the real key to the success of this class, it’s obvious that she loves dogs and what she does… making a huge difference. We’ll continue to work with her as our puppy gets older and our training needs change.

My 7 months old Boston Terrier LOVED Kimberly & her adolescent obedience classes at Andrea Arden Dog Training. He enjoyed it so much that he was literally flying to the «classroom» every time we went!
I really appreciated every aspect of the training, especially the exercises on impulse control. I am delighted to say that my husband & I can now enjoy our dinner (even at our very low coffee table!) while our pup is quietly sitting/​lying at our feet without any attempt to get to our food. Considering how food-​crazy our little guy is, this used to be UNIMAGINABLE. He’s much better behaved overall and now sits down politely in the elevator, before entering a room or in the wine-​store while his mom and dad are shopping. He even sits down at the gate of the dogpark and comes when called even if he’s in the middle of playing with his friends! Need I say more?
The class was small enough for each dog to get personal attention which is a plus, and the other «students» were really nice, too. A previous reviewer complained about barking that sometimes can be heard from the connecting room but I always found it to be a good distraction. In fact, I believe it helped for our pup to learn basic skills in that environment and perform them so well later on in real life (e.g. in the dogpark.)
My only complaint is that classes at the E 91st St location are somewhat limited compared to other AADT locations as I would love to continue with more advanced obedience, perhaps try agility, etc. Regardless, I’m very happy with what we had and have been recommending Kimberly & AADT to our friends and neighbors who keep commenting on how well behaved our little guy is!

Thank goodness for Kimberly at Andrea Arden! We have a very energetic staffordshire terrier puppy who needs a lot of training. We took the puppy class and have recently done private training with the adolescent level I class. We have seen such a difference in our puppy. Even people in our building who wouldn’t ride the elevator with us a few months ago now comment on how good she is. While we still have work to do, with Kimberly we know our puppy will grow up to be a well trained dog.

What a waste of money
I registered my new puppy due to a friends recommendation and finding the class to be only my dog and one other, I thought it was going to be fantastic… ha
1st class basically taught me about the instructor and how she was going to be taking a 2 week vacation and a sub would be teaching week 2 and 3.
Well apparently the sub and the original didnt communicate who was teaching what and what technique because the class was a repeat with a twist on technique.
Week 3 I missed, same on me.
Week 4 I returned only to find another instructor.
So 3 instructors in 4 weeks all with their own technique on training the same thing.
In week 4 when my dog basically learned how to snip at your hands to obtain a treat in fear you were going to pull it away trying to get him to lay down and the instructor telling me it was normal, even though my fingers had bite marks and scratches all over it, I deceided it was not even worth the effort of getting over to the East Side.
I didnt regret it after I received an email on Week 5 on the day of the class, that the instructor was not feeling well and class was canceled.
This is pure American greed. Instead of announcing «Thank you for your intrested but due to the season and the size of registration, this will not be offered» they decided lets get the 700 bucks, each one of the instructors make a quick 50 and the owner make his 300

Our dog Ruby needed some training and, let’s face it, so did we. We took her to Andrea Arden and met Kimberly. She was amazing. She did a great job teaching all three of us. The class was small enough where each puppy had Kimberly’s undivided attention. She was wonderful with all of the dogs and you can tell she truly loves what she does. After class there was puppy socialization time. The best thing for a puppy after an hour of training. Ruby made a whole bunch of new friends and looked forward to training every week knowing there was playtime afterwards. Kimberly’s supervision, making sure all the puppies played well together, was superb. If you want your puppy trained and socialized, introduce her to Kimberly. You won’t be sorry. And even though Ruby has finished her training, we still make the trip to see Kimberly so Ruby can play with her new found friends. Thank you Kimberly. A big ‘woof’ to you from Ruby.

We made a BIG mistake and got 2 puppies at once, something everyone told us not to do because they would likely bond with each other and un-​train themselves.
We really did not want to lose one of the pups but they were really not learning. A friend of mine suggested I call Andrea and see if she could help. We’ve done some classes with the dogs and a private consultation over the last 2 months and…
I am soooo happy to say that AADT really knocked it out of the (dog) park! With all that Andrea taught us, we are actually getting these two amazing dogs in line and we are much happier. But I think the most important thing is that the dogs seem happier too. Thanks to everyone at AADT!

I recently completed Andrea Arden’s Adult Basic class with my newly rescued Wheaten Terrier. Over the class my dog’s behavior improved immensely, as did my knowledge of how best to train her. Andrea Arden Training uses reward-​based training and my dog LOVES it — she now will spontaneously do obedience moves in the hopes that I will give her a treat. Our class was quite small (just 3 dogs), so it was almost like having 1 on 1 training. It was very helpful to see the trainers demonstrate the techniques. Additionally, many of the Andrea Arden trainers have also rescued dogs, so they have a good understanding of the different training issues rescued dogs face.
