This place is so cute. There is one person working behind the counter. In front of her are displays of very authentic and delicious looking pastries. It’s actually overwhelming with the cakes, croissants, strudels and other things with names I didn’t know. I got the apple strudel which was huge. The other pastries all look great. Since this place is really for take out, you should heat the pastries when you get home before you eat it. I didn’t do it so my pastries probably weren’t as good as they should have been. Prices are kind of high but you’re getting a specialty make of dessert.

One of the best classic bakeries in the city. Great cookies, linzer tarts and other pastries.

Old world bakery that creates daily pastries better than any other in this Midtown East nabe. Try the rugelahs! I loved the linzer tart cookies too.

Interesting place, hard to find, but has rare sweet joys you would not find easily elsewhere. Prices are high($ 6 for a rum ball, for example), hence the reduced number of stars…

This place is sort of a sleeper, perhaps it’s the location in the shadows of the 59th Street bridge. The strudels are excellent but they sell out, so come early. We like the poppy seed best, but they have apple, cherry, cheese as well. We have also tried a savory strudel — spinach and potato which is good for a snack or side dish. Croissants are pretty average for NYC, not bad but not at the level of Payard or Eric Kayser. There is also a selection of Hungarian foods in a refrigerated case. I have not tried these yet. Prices are somewhat high.

On an unexpected visit to this bakery, it was warm and quaint that transported you to another world. I had to Spinach and potato strudel and it was delicious — I’ve never had such a perfectly flaky pastry! My mother had a Napoleon which was hands down the best we’ve ever had. Our friend had the apple strudel and said it was to die for. Absolutely delicious. I will be back to try more foods I the menu! We met the woman who bakes all the pastries and she was so sweet! What a wonderful, charming and cozy bakery — I am so happy we found it!

I’ve only tried a savory strudel at this corner take-out bakery. Strudels generally cost $ 7 per slice, but when I was there the savory strudels were on special for $ 5. I tried the potato paprikash one and had the clerk heat it up there. It tasted good and had a very flaky crust, as a strudel should. At $ 5, I would definitely order one again, but not often at $ 7. Their cakes(Sachertorte, 7-layer…) and cookies also looked good. Clerk was friendly.

Dobos torte(Dobostorta) is supposed to be very thin layers of cake and chocolate buttercream, but the cake layers were entirely too thick and not particularly tasty. And I specifically asked whether their poppy seed roll(makos bejgli) contained raisins, and was told no by the woman behind the counter. The filling was in fact made of about as much raisin as poppy seeds.

Delicious and tasty strudels. My favorite is the poppy strudel and my friend loved the cheese and cherry strudel. The cabbage strudel was also quite tasty. Don’t miss this place. Please note this place is for take out only.

Out of love for the Andre’s in the UES/Yorkville, I wanted to give this place a shot. It was newly opened, and there was one person inside. I asked her if she had any strawberry-based strudels. She told me that she didn’t have a strawberry strudel, but had a strawberry cheese strudel. I told her that was OK(umm. even more delicious). I asked her for a slice, to share with a friend. She warned me that the strudel was $X(I forget how much it cost… I want to say $ 6), and it was a quarter of the entire strudel and was a lot of food. Was I sure I wanted to buy it? In this day and age, I consider that good customer service. Great even. The strudel was quite good — good strawberry layer over a creamy cheese, rounded with a flaky Phyllo crust. I would certainly go back, and it seems like the place already has a couple return customers.
