Cool bar. Authentic, understated, provocative. Simple menu with bites, but the energy here permeates your taste buds too.

Step away from the direct sun and into the luscious outdoor patio of this hidden neighborhood gem. Seriously though, the Empanadas and plantains are delicious. The trendy staff is gracious and attentive. The drinks are also big, tropical and full of booze — always pleasing to the masses. Surroundings are great — directly overlooking Lowery Triangle(which could benefit from a little love). Definitely making this a regular stop on my summer weekends.

I walked by this gem for months. Now that it’s SPRING I got the nerve to walk in and WOW was I amazed. Fabulous joint in prospect heights. Outdoor area large enough for 50, screenings of films, great vibe inside-super funky art community. It feels like a combo of a ship hull party space in Amsterdam combined with a Seattle community space. Sangria is fresh and fruity and delicious. This is the type of space whose legacy will outlive itself.

That’s a chill and very hip place. Hard to describe, you need to see the spot. Jazz/street art/Caribbean such a strange and also pleasant mix. Downside: we waited about 25 minutes to get a tea and it’s not like the place was packed, it was just us… Well that was a special homemade tea. I didn’t love it, but I guess it was healthy…

Know by many names, this is the space behind Gureje Boutique. You may know it as The Village, Art Café, or Renate Albertsen-Marton Gallery. They have always-rotating art lining the walls and stage, it’s been different every time I go there. The bar is somewhat new, no taps yet but full service. It’s cash only, but there are some pretty cheap options($ 4 PBRs… you still exist!) should you be low on dollar bills. Art Café is a very multipurpose space, they do comedy nights, live music, art classes/shows, etc. There’s a nice-looking courtyard space just outside the bar, I’m sure it’s a great spot when the weather’s warm! I’m not sure how it works exactly but I think it’s an artist collective type space, and the bartenders have always been super nice. Their wordpress:
