Arthur L Carter Journalism Institute

I’m writing this review as a graduate of the program (Lit Rep 2012) and someone who thought it was important that the journalism school at NYU have its own Unilocal page. When you look at the landscape for journalism education in New York City, everyone will say hands down that Columbia University is the mecca mainly because it was the first place to offer a graduate degree in journalism and it’s an Ivy League school, but I would argue that a close second to Columbia is NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. I really liked studying here because the professors are working professionals and researchers as well. I saw my professors’ bylines in magazines and websites all the time when I studied there. NYU’s journalism school (for graduate students) offers way more concentrations than Columbia. Some folks would say CUNY has an up-​and-​coming graduate journalism education as well, but NYU’s still stands out in my mind because it’s been around longer and the NYU name just connotes excellence in an employer’s mind quicker than CUNY does. Nothing against CUNY at all because that’s a great school as well. Overall, anyone looking to get a master’s in journalism should seriously consider NYU.
