Aster Ob/Gyn

I have been a patient of Dr. Fahmy’s since 2004. I was not happy at first of having a male physician. Figured if he didn’t have a «hooha» then he doesn’t know what this yearly horrendous exam feels like. well, he’s done well thus far, lol. He speaks to you during the exam and says these nonsense things that has you thinking what is this man talking about, lol. Next thing you know, your done.
My last pregnancy was a bit of trouble (she still is 4 years later.) I must say that I felt safe with my doctor. He explained everything that was going on, why I was high risk, why I was put on bed rest, and was honest when he didn’t have a complete answer because well there wasn’t one. When I ended up in the hospital near my home, he showed concern and kept in contact with the physicians that were talking care of me.
I recommend Dr. Fahmy all the time. The only issue other people have come across is that he may not participate with all insurance plans. If you can see him, you should.

I had not seen an Ob/​Gyn in about a decade, so needless to say, I was nervous. First of all, I called in advance to make sure my insurance was accepted. They told me they’d call me back in a minute to verify. I went in for an appointment next week. I had a consultation. Dr. asked several questions about my history, and towards the end of the consultation learned that they DON’T ACCEPT MY INSURANCE; they’re out of network and need to negotiate with the insurance company. They promised the first appointment would be free of charge. I saw the MD in June and despite all the phone calls, can never get the MD on the phone — I’m constantly asked to email him instead. Nobody ever called back or followed up on the update on negotiations, even after I told them I was pregnant and needed to come in immediately granted they tell me how much I needed to pay per visit, but was explained that it could take weeks or months to say.
I think it was untruthful of them to say they accepted my insurance over the phone but not state it was out of network. They find tactful ways to get you in the office. While the office is very fancy and extremely up to date, the MD is unreachable at all times by phone. He is dedicated to seeing a large host of patients which makes me feel that while he may be a good doctor, he can’t possible provide quality attention and care if his focus is on quantity.
During my visit he stepped out and popped his head in several times to say he will be in with me momentarily. I popped my head out to see what was going on and he had 5 other patients he was trying to simultaneously see, all in different rooms. And I kept seeing more patients being setup in rooms as I sat and waited. Dr. Farris Fahmy may be a great doctor with a lot of experience, but I prefer someone I can reach when needed; someone who gives me their undivided attention on my appointment instead of trying to juggle a host of patients; someone who doesn’t make silly jokes when he’s checking my body; and rushes through all the questions so fast I can’t hear half of what he’s saying.

By far the best OB/​GYN experience in life.
I will probably come back and add to this review but so far Dr. Fahmy did an EXCELLENT job in making me feel comfortable. Everyone was very attentive and helpful. I was hesitant about having a male doctor but Dr. Fahmy is by far the best OB/​GYN I’ve had. I’m so glad I found this office.

This the worst OBGNY office aver, so after 3 years of service i sent to a collections agency by them to due their billing dept failure to informed me they no longer participated with my insurance GHI. Athough i was an active patient and paid all my co-​payments to them. Now in debt although i have insurance; i tried contacting them to resolve the problem and they are choosing to ignore me.

Love Love Love Dr. Fahmy and his staff! I had a very tough pregnancy and Dr. Fahmy was always available to hear all of my questions, concerns etc. His practice is always clean and his staff is very accommodating/​professional. They work with your schedule and are always available. Dr. Fahmy is very personable, honest and knowledgeable. I couldn’t have asked for a better obgyn to oversee my pregnancy, delivery and post partum! Thanks Dr. Fahmy!

We arrived in New York and didn’t even have a GP when I discovered I was pregnant. I found Aster on Unilocal and since we lived close by decided to try it and am so glad I did. Dr. Farris Fahmy is an amazing doctor; from my first appointment to the birth of our baby girl I knew I was in good hands. As a sole practitioner he has all the time in the world for his patients and is available ²⁴⁄₇. He is friendly, professional and has an excellent bedside manner. Your appointments never feel rushed and he addresses all your concerns no matter how seemingly trivial. I felt at ease in his care throughout my entire pregnancy. I especially loved that he really listens to his patients and gives you the freedom of choice in birth plan etc. I would recommend Dr. Fahmy to my closest friends in a heart beat and have already done so.

To start with the conclusion: I could not have found a better OB/​GYN! I moved to NY in January 2013. Since I got pregnant a few months later, I had to find a health care provider. I called various OB/​GYN offices but I seemed to be on a mission impossible: «we do not take new patients», «you can have an appointment in September», bla bla bla. I was about to give up when I stumbled across Dr. Fahmy’s name and read some amazing reviews about him. I actually intended to see a female physician (as I always did) but I gave it a chance — and thank God I did.
Right from the start, I felt in good hands: I got an appointment within the next 24 hours and Dr. Fahmy did an excellent job. He is not only a capable physician but also a very easy-​going, likeable and funny person. He listened to my concerns, answered all my questions and he reminded me to call him any time — day or night — in case of problems.
With respect to the birth, I wanted to have it all-​natural. He supported me 100% and gave me the confidence to do it that way — although I was almost two weeks overdue in the end! I assume other OB/​GYN would have talked me into an induction by that time. Dr. Fahmy, however, «allowed» us to wait and helped me deliver the baby without any pain medication. Of course, the baby’s and my health was always the yardstick of his actions and advice.
His office team is also very nice and friendly. Everyone makes you feel welcome. They dealt directly with my health insurance so I never had to file claims myself and only paid upfront once at my very first consultation.
Long story short, if you need an OB/​GYN, this is the place to go!

Great attention and care. My wife has had a very tough pregnancy and dr. Fahmy couldn’t have been better. His bedside manner is perfect for my neurotic wife.
The staff is great and helpful. We always have a friendly face each time we have gone.
Great office hours to accommodate the working professionals.

Dr. Fahmy is my new favorite doctor. I came to him after having several problems with a previous doctor and I am so happy I switched. He offers the option of booking appointments, receiving test results, and refilling prescriptions online, which makes his office readily available and responsive. The office is extremely clean and comfortable and the staff is professional. He was attentive gathering my information during our initial consultation and was very helpful managing my insurance — despite being out of my network. The exam went very smoothly and for once, I’m not dreading going back to the doctor!

This is the second year I visit Dr. Fahmy for my annual exam along with blood tests and he is an extremely professional and nice doctor. Last year I was hesitant about seeing a male doctor for the first time and this year I was looking forward to seeing him again. He keeps good notes about his clients and it felt great that he remembered I was in school (my previous obgyn was a very rude and detached woman). I recommend him to anybody looking for a caring obgyn.

I have been a patience of Dr. Fahmy for about 10 years now and would not change him for the world.
Dr. Fahmy has been with me thru 2 pregnancy a miscarriage and a full term which ended up to be an emergency C-​section, thru both situations i could not have ask for a more patient and sympathetic doctor.
You can always count on Dr. Fahmy to give you the outmost honest answer to any of your question.
He is amazing!!!

I’ve only been to one appointment, but I felt that all my concerns were discussed fully and sensitively. Dr. Fahmy was clearly patient centered and spent a lot of time discussing my questions and concerns. He is without a doubt one of the best doctors I have had in my life. I was shocked when I was told I could get a same day appointment. Waiting 4 weeks so you can see a female OBGYN is not worth it when you have excellent alternate options.

Dr. Fahmy is a great doctor. He was my first male gynecologist which I was initially hesitant about after years of having a female one but he makes you very comfortable. No complaints here!

Dr. Fahmy is amazing. He’s thorough. He explains everything clearly and simply but not like you just got a vagina. His office is clean. His staff is thorough. The wait is reasonable. He emails you test results faster than any doctor ever. But most importantly, I trust him completely. Best doctor of any specialty I’ve ever been to.

Dr Yu has moved practices, but he is — by far — the BEST OB-​GYN I have ever been to and I have been to many. He has an impreccable bedside manner and took the time to thoroughly explain everything to me. I had to go back for a couple of follow-​ups and for the first time EVER — I didn’t stress about it.
Excellent practioner.

This is the ultimate Manhattan private practice. The only thing that would make it better is Taye Diggs to greet you at the door (because obviously you don’t want him doing your exam).
Anyway. I’ve only been once but everything went well and it seems very promising!
I saw Dr. Yu and he was very thorough and explained everything as he went along. Great bedside manner. They have a great system where you can get your test results pretty much as soon as they come in, and Dr. Yu said if you need an appointment and there’s nothing available online, you can call and they can try to squeeze you in. A+ for customer service.
The place is beautiful and the staff was friendly enough. It seemed like I was the only patient there that morning so I was seen pretty much right away.
They offer the full spectrum of ob/​gyn services, from routine paps to prenatal care, and everything in between.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better… they have heated toilet seats. Fact.

Dr. Yu is hands-​down the best doctor, regardless of area of specialization, I have EVER been to! He is thorough, takes his time, and explains the processes involved in procedures.
If you’re considering making an appointment, consider no further! Call right away!
My only wish is that he could be my GP too!

Dr. Fahmy and Dr. Yu are fantastic doctors. They are always readily available via phone/​email and are very prompt in responding back. They both have a great beside manner and make you feel comfortable. I never have to wait and the staff and nurses there are professional and ready to assist with any discomfort.
Dr. Fahmy is always in a funny and upbeat mood and I always feel well assured as he discusses every treatment in detail and what to expect, etc. When Dr. Fahmy is performing surgery, Dr. Yu is available and both are attentive to any signs of anxiety and good with follow up.

Dr. Yu was amazing. I am so glad that i randomly picked this place from the internet. I cant wait for him to deliver my baby when i get pregnant. I had initially wanted to have a baby close to my where my parents live, but after meeting Dr. Yu, i know he is the best. He explained many options that we have as well as answered all my questions. I went to the emergency room and he was in constant contact with the doctors there to get all the info and to recommend anything based on my history. I had to have emergency surgery and the doctor called me to check up on me a few times and to make sure i was ok. This is 5 Star service. In regards to the other review, i have Blue Cross and they accepted it without any issues. It is issued through work so not sure if that makes a difference. I totally recommend Dr. Yu to anyone.

After a thorough research of OB/​GYN doctors within my Blue Cross/​Blue Shield network, I decided upon giving Dr. Farris Fahmy a try. I visited the Aster Ob-​Gyn location. The wait time was decent, the reception was average.
Dr. Farris Fahmy was extraordinary.
He was jovial, gentle, he listened to my past history, asked appropriate questions, and I felt I received the time I needed without feeling rushed. The number one BEST reason why I was ready to sign Dr. Fahmy on as my future baby-​doctor (one day?) was because I asked him if he would be willing to perform elective cesarean births. This is something I feel very strongly about, and yes I have done all my research on this as well. Dr. Fahmy said, «yes, of course. My wife had 2, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.» SOLD!
I scheduled my annual checkup for exactly a year later, which would put us at Aug 2011, on a Saturday afternoon (my only day off from work).
A YEAR later, I receive a call a few days to confirm my appointment… you bet I’m coming!
Then, at 5PM on Friday night… the night BEFORE my appointment, during that golden 15 min when all IMPORTANT phonecalls are made before receptionists and office staff HASTILY step out the door for their weekends… I get a call.
«Hello Courtney, this is _​_​_​_​from Aster OB/​GYN.»
uh, yes?
«There is a problem with your insurance.»
What kind of a problem, I use it every week for my allergy shots. It works!
«Well, Dr. Fahmy no longer accepts Blue Cross/​Blue Shield.»
WHAT?! You are calling me at 5PM the night BEFORE my scheduled appointment– an appointment that has been scheduled for a YEAR– to tell me that the doctor no longer accepts my insurance?
She continued to tell me that I could pay the private pay fee of $ 250, or pay using my insurance which would be $ 5000 (to meet my deductible).
Oh such LOVELY choices, being that I pay MONTHLY premiums to my insurance company to cover me solely for a) allergy shots b) an annual regular doctor checkup c) an annual gyn checkup d) emergencies (which I never have)
Only to have the doctor’s office call me the NIGHT BEFORE to tell me that I am in fact not covered.
I have had a past history with gyn problems which I explicitly discussed with the doctor a year prior, and which are another reason why a future cesarean birth would be important to me. I take my annual gyn appointment VERY, VERY seriously. I mentioned all of this to the receptionist (who was probably watching the ticking second hand on the clock and drumming her fingernails) and asked her if she could please remind the doctor about all of this, and see what he could do.
She returned to the phone after a requisite 2 min of on-​hold time.
«Sorry, Courtney. Nothing, other than if you want to pay out for a $ 250 office visit.»
I had one more question that was burning in my mind:
«When did the doctor decide to stop taking BC/​BS insurance?» I asked.
She replied, «Oh, hang on, let me see (she puts me on hold, then returns) September.»
SEPTEMBER 2010?!?
You mean, you had a YEAR to notify me so that I could do my research and find another doctor? You had a YEAR to perhaps send out letters to your clientele, or maybe even CALL us? And INSTEAD you decided to call me at 5PM on a Friday NIGHT, mere HOURS before my appointment tomorrow morning?!?
***note… a month prior he had NO PROBLEM sending out emails to everyone regarding the new doctor in the office. Perhaps to save time, he could’ve mentioned the change in insurance policy?***

The 2 stars are for Dr. Fahmy as a practitioner when he is in the treatment room. He should’ve been a 5, but when considering the lack of professionalism and courtesy he bestows on his regular clients via his lack of office skills, I remove 3 stars.
