History

Established in 2006.

Kate Goldwater (Au= Gold, H2O = water, get it?) opened AuH2O in October ’06 to sell vintage and secondhand clothing along with her own recycled designs. Her goal is to make eco-​friendly fashion accessible to everyone with very reasonable prices!

Small and cute store in a neighborhood full of thrift stores. I’ve found an outfit every time that Ive went and they have a really nice selection of sweaters that are very reasonably priced and are in good shape. I’m honestly amazed at some of the things that I’ve found there and hope that the luck continues.
If you’re lazy like me, this is a great place to find a cute outfit in less than 10 mins.

The selection here is very limited, just a few racks and a disinterested and moody sales girl (you are getting paid to serve us right?!)
The clothes they have aren’t great vintage finds. Everything is a bit ‘Urban Outfitters Originals’ and will remind you of freshmen who just discovered vinyl. There is nothing that you couldn’t thrift yourself… however the prices are GREAT. I really uncharacteristically cheap for this neighbourhood (tops from $ 10, jackets from $ 20)
I would say this place is worth going to ONLY if you live locally and need a last minute outfit on the cheap for Saturday night.

Kate the owner is an amazingly hard working girl boss who has excellent curatorial taste when it comes to building an inventory that is always on-​trend, yet timeless. In terms of second hand and vintage stores, AuH2o hits the mark, and doesn’t have the pretentious unwelcoming vibe that plagues so many NYC second hand boutiques. The price point is extremely reasonable which boosts the thrifting morale, and leaves you wanting to come back and see what else they’ll bring in. Quality is always on point, and you can find anything from unnamed vintage items, to bigger names like Marc by Marc or Nanette Lepore. A huge pro is that they are very social media media active, and will even hold an item, or sell it and ship it to you if you get in touch with them. @auh2oshop !

Went in tonight and they had a cute sale going on. Bummed the shirt I liked another girl purchased. But hey! It happens. The sales lady was nice and once we walked in we were greeted. Cute store to shop in and they have great prices!

I don’t get the fuss. There’s not a ton of inventory here, and both times I’ve been the girl has the «back in a jiff» sign up but is in the store, and I had to wait for her to notice me before I could go on. Over it.

My only complaint is the size of the shop/​the volume of merchandise: there’s lovely stuff to be had, but there just isn’t enough of it! The woman working at the counter during my visit was wonderful: helpful but not pushy. The selection of rings was great, but… there wasn’t quite enough in the shop to justify visiting the area only to shop. Prices were spot-​on, and the condition of the goods looked great all around.

Definetely, I will say that their sense of style for a thrift store is absolutely amazing! Chic and trendy clothes everywhere. Though it is quite small compared to other thrift stores, their clothes quality and neatness compensates that. Some of the clothes are a bit expensive here unlike other places like a pair of pants for 20 $. Then again the 10 $ and below section have quite fair deals. HOWEVER, although I enjoyed looking around, I did not buy anything due to the fact that all the clothes I was interested in had some kind of nasty stain on them. That was the only disappointing thing…

My girlfriend absolutely loves this place. Every time we are in the area for anything, she makes sure to go there and browse for a bit– and she usually leaves with something. Yes, it’s a small space, but it feels like every item has been hand-​picked and curated by the staff. We’ve met the owner a few times, super cool. Her staff is friendly and helpful. It’s definitely not like most thrift shops– no musty smell or random items thrown on racks. And they have a number of original, custom-​made items too.

Cute, little hand-​picked thrift shop. Most clothes are in gently used condition but make sure to check for flaws like holes, stains, etc. I bought an oversized plaid shirt and vintage cropped sweater cardigan with a unique pattern all for $ 15. I came on Thursday where there was 15% off with student ID. Check out their $ 5 and $ 10 racks and do check out their jewelry selections, it’s has one-​of-​a-​kind pieces and they’re in excellent condition ranging from $ 1-​$ 15.

I love this thrift shop! The owner is super friendly and I love the selection of clothing she has. The shop itself is a little on the small side but the clothing it carries are of a cute and modern style. I found a variety of brands here, including American Apparel, F21, and Superdry. For it’s inexpensive prices, this thrift shop is definitely a must go-​to. The $ 5 rack on the outside of the shop is also a big plus for me :)

A very limited selection. I took home a pair of vintage high waisted Jordache jeans that fit me like a glove for $ 15, and a red printed square scarf for $ 7. A little pricey for second-​hand items. Will come back again since the selection, though small, is quite stylish.

Actually, it’s a pretty interesting place. I wasn’t a fan of their dresses or shoes fashion-​wise, but the jewelry was pretty cheap and had some good finds! Mostly focused on gold/​silver colored bracelets and necklaces that are pretty large and visible in size.

The store is extremely small, and the inventory even smaller.
I found a pair of Ralph Lauren brown leather riding boots in my size for $ 25. I was jumping for joy, until I pulled the boots down from the shelf. I cannot believe they were being sold in the current condition. The interior heel of each boot was completely destroyed. The leather along the zipper was frayed and torn. Such a shame.
Overall, I was underwhelmed with this store, given the rave reviews by other Unilocal users.

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS THRIFT SHOP. The moment you walk in and you see clothes nicely aligned and a beautiful bird cage with lovely necklaces organized and hanging so elegantly; this place is too good. Whenever I’m around St. Marks, I always stop by to see what new pieces are around. No doubt that you’ll receive a flood of compliments on items you buy from this store. The staff is very friendly and they have a new location in Williamsburg as well. You should follow them on instagram because they’re always updating bits and bobs. On the items they upload from either location, you can comment if you’re willing to buy and they’ll send you an invoice via email; so convenient!!! Sometimes I upload items that I bought from them via insta and they’ll give you a lovely shoutout by regraming. I love the relationship that they have with their customers.

Au+H2O = Goldwater = AWESOME
Hands down my favorite thrift store in the city. The selection is carefully curated, perfectly organized, AND reasonably priced. In a world where $ 50 for a t-​shirt is the thrifting norm (what would Macklemore say?), AuH2O is a breath of fresh air. Love the $ 5 rack and the $ 10 or less section!
Don’t let the small size of the store fool you – it’s packed with special pieces in pristine condition. I honestly try on half of merchandise in the store each time I go in. I’ve bought my two favorite maxi dresses here (both for under $ 15!) Great jewelry selection as well.
AuH2O is the BEST! Definitely add it to the top of your list of East Village thrifting destinations.

Their $ 5 rack absolutely rocks. I have to hold myself back from it when I stride by during the summer.
They have a better selection bags and accessories during the summer but I really come here for sweaters. I can probably count on my hand the amount of times that I left the store without buying a little vintage sweater. It is so hard to resist when they are always $ 18 or less.
Forget Tokyo 7 across the street. They are rude and their prices don’t make any sense whatsoever. WE LOVE AuH2O!
