This place is dunzo. On 7÷31÷13 I walked by the restaurant only to see a For Rent sign at the top of the door and the space completely emptied out. :-( Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

I dropped by for lunch twice and was satisfied with my meals: Classic Banh Mi– Is this the best Banh Mi I ever had? Not by a long shot, but it’s definitely the best I had in the Fidi area. If you can’t make it to Banh Mi Saigon in Chinatown, this is the place to go for your Banh Mi fix. Spicy catfish sandwich– The catfish was tender and moist. I’m usually not a big fan of fish, but this was pretty good.

Best Vietnamese sandwich(banh mi) EVER! Not too soggy, not too spicy… PERFECT! Great papaya salad w/shrimp too. Best part very AFFORDABLE! :(Sad the Nassau location is now CLOSED and I have to hike up to the ONLY location left of Baoguette Lexington and 24th to get a good Banh Mi :(

I usually get the BBQ sandwich w/spicy. Tried the Vietnamese Ice Coffee for the first time– it was very good. 4 stars because they have a $ 10 minimum on Credit Card. Overall, a solid lunch spot, no frills, good food.

I really like their banh mi – bread is toasty crunchy outside and fluffy soft inside, meat is flavorful and tender, but I think their pickles(carrots & daikon) are a little too sweet. The SLOPPYBAO is fantastic, savory and spicy and succulent. The BAOGUETTE is big and beautiful. The CATFISH is delicious, but a little too salty for my preference. And the BBQCHICKEN is perfectly fine, but not as exciting as the other three options. I haven’t tried the VEGUETTE, because there are already enough vegetables for me! The secret to getting a good sandwich here is letting them know what how you like it. For me – very little mayonnaise, lots of jalapenos, lots of sriracha, and lots of cilantro. Tell them what you want, and you always get what you want. Take charge, be happy. I’ve also tried their Vermicelli Noodles, Summer Rolls, and Papaya Salad. Good stuff.

Oh man, having to re-write this gives me tremendous guilt because I pride myself on being a good one time Unilocaler… but after a second try, their baoguette is actually delicious and filling(just not the fish, I love fish but their sandwich was not filling). I figured I’d give these guys a second try after being filled up on Nicky’s. Their bread is fresh, dense, and delcious. It’s freshly made in the store, their minced meat is a little on the sweet side and has whole peppercorns, chewing on whole peppercorns is not the business. They don’t put a lot of pâté on their sammies but their bread is the winner. I also wished they had more of a pickle taste in their veggies but either way 4⁄5 for the bread and the baoguette’s ability to fill you up. Their phở broth is good but their meat is on the hard and bleh side. Go to Nicky’s for better meat choices in the phở. I have a theory that if Nicky’s and Baoguette got together they’d make a bomb ass Vietnamese spot.

This will undoubtedly be my new Bun Mi spot, as long as I work in Financial district. I got the Sloppy Bao and the classic. The Sloppy Bao, was everything I ever wanted in a sloppy joe and more. Basically it’s your favorite sloppy joe meat served on a baoguette and piled with your favorite Vietnamese vegetables. The bun was soft yet crispy, and the sauce on the sloppy was perfect. I also got the Classic Bun Mi with Crispy pig ears, Pork bun meat and vegetables. The bread was crispy and soft, as it should always be, and the meat was fresh The diced up pig ears added a perfect crunch to the sandwich The summer rolls, were the standard, fresh, run of the mill kind, so nothing to write home about. The world must try the sloppy Bao!!!

I’ve been here several times but my review is based on the same sandwich I find myself ordering every time I return and that is the grilled chicken sandwich. This sandwich is very satisfying — you can order it mild, medium or very spicy. First off, it’s decently priced at $ 6.25 and it’s a pretty big sandwich or mini hero. The bread is the star of the show – light and crispy. The chicken is perfectly grilled, with shredded carrots, cucumbers, and sprigs of fresh cilantro topped with their sauce. In a word, light and delicious. I’ve been meaning to try other items from their menu and when I do, I’ll write an update.

I ordered Baoguette from the seamless because I receive 20% off of my 1st order. Sometimes, you just feel like eating banh mi. That was the time I just want a sandwich. I know it’s hard to find a good one here but at least a decent one. Hearing so much good things about the sloppy bao. I decided to give it a try. I opt out the jalapeño. but wanted it a little spicier. I don’t know what they added in it. Sloppy bao is basically beef with green mango. Mmm… That was the thing that made me love the banh mi. The bread was crispy. meat portion was perfect. and they gave me lots of cilantro. which I don’t really like but I think all the banh mi should have it. If they can make a little twist and turn and added some carrots in it. It will be perfect. The bread was crispy and warm to enjoy. Only thing. Since I ordered from the seamless. I came and pickup but they have not made my sandwich. well. i get why because if they make it way too early. It’s gonna be disgusting and the bread will be soft and cold. but. another thing. I think they forgot my order. this is why if you order delivery. It takes a long time. I recommend you to call them. but since they are really bad at seamless. I have no idea why they still want to have it on seamless. they line wasn’t that long here.

Excellent bread, first and foremost. Fresh and crispy. I thought the sandwich(sloppy bao) was rather weak on the meat. I guess that’s how they make money in New York? My coworker got a noodle bowl, which was larger but also mostly fluffed up with vegetables. The food quality is definitely five stars, but in order to earn that fifth star they need to deliver on portions.

Not the best in the city. Best in the area? Depends on your preferences… The bread is warm with a great texture. The sandwich itself is as big as any banh mi, and priced averagely(sadface) at $ 6.25. But they really STUFF the sandwich here and skimp on the pâté, relative to Nicky’s Vietnamese, a few steps away across Fulton. Baoguette’s sandwich is verrry messy, with almost too much crumbly pork and carrot falling everywhere(see my photo!). Nicky’s is less generously stuffed but a bit more balanced. I prefer Nicky’s just a tiny bit, if we’re limiting ourselves to banh mi in the Financial District. Nicky’s also has a more charming space… Baoguette, despite the food-trucky name, is very much a hole in the wall. They have bar seating along the wall, a sense of unintentional grunge, and no music at all to mask the loud sanitarium buzz of the drink coolers. $ 10 credit minimum.

Nice fusion banh mi. My favorite is the spicy pork but all options are really tasty.

I have an addiction. I need help(meaning tasty bahn mi). I am also a vegetarian-in-training so none of the more traditional pork or chicken bahn mi for me! This requirement knocks some Bahn mi joints out compeletely, luckily for me Baoguette ofters a veggie version! The veguette is discribed as «Vegetarian Kung Pao Soy Protein». While tasty it did not have a descernable kung pao flavor. The bread and vegetables however were just about perfect. Overall — its a good sandwich though and I would order it again however if Hanco’s ever opened a location within walking distance from my office I would forget this place in a heart beat. Until then, I will have to keep rotating between Mangez Avec Moi, Nicky’s and this place.

The papaya salad had more shredded carrots than papaya. There was hot sauce but eating it was a chore. I love a good papaya salad, but I guess the focus is on the banh mi here. The classic(well, the ‘spicy’ version of the original) was messy but full of meat. Cutting it in half would definitely help. The BBQ chicken was actually much tastier overall in my book. I would probably order it(and try the catfish and sloppy bao) more regularly if they weren’t so expensive. It’s still hard to pay twice what I used to for the same(or even slightly subpar) sandwich back in Philly or NOVA, but that’s NYC for you sometimes. Service is always quick and pleasant.

Solid lunch spot in the Financial District. You can’t go wrong with the original Baoguette. Remember to tell them Spicy if you like some heat in every bite. Watch out not to bite an entire jalapeño, you might get more than you bargained for. Nicky’s around the corner is also really highly recommended. Think she might have a leg up since they also serve a great soup. Spring rolls were pretty good too. Light and fresh. Counter area of about 6 seats. Grab a stool and eat your food here. This is a take out spot for the majority of the customers who work in the area.

Wicked fast, friendly service. There’s delivery, takeout, and room for small squads of sandwichers. Try their Baoguette sandwich; it’s what they’re known for, and a dependable standby. Don’t get their sloppy bao($ 7; $ 10 credit card minimum), which basically is a car accident of slurry sloppy joe curry beef mixed with green mango, basil, lemon grass, and cilantro. I love all those things — especially cilantro — but every bite left an unpleasant aftertaste.

Probably the best overall bahn mi place I’ve experienced in NYC thus far. The bread wasn’t too big/thick. In fact it was proportionate to the meat. Everything melded. While the meat was divine, I don’t remember the other stuff, so that migh be one thing to work on. Otherwise they are a good value and fast.

Knowing that I can get Bahn Mi’s in Chinatown for less than half the price, I decided to go for something a little more unusual. I decided to order the Sloppy Bao($ 7.00 + tax = $ 7.62), Spicy(you can also order it not spicy), which includes curry beef, green mango, basil, lemongrass, and cilantro on a 10″ crispy baguette. Place your order and you’re given a receipt with a number, which will be called in about 3 – 5 minutes. After pulling the Sloppy Bao of the brown paper bag, I noticed the bread was fairly thin, resembling that of a Quiznos sandwich. A bit bothered, I found the bread dwarfing everything else, as I wasn’t able to see any of the beef or other ingredients inside. There was an exception of a few pieces of julienned green mango sticking out at one end of the sandwich. I decided to open up the sandwich, and was a bit surprised at how frugral they were with the portions. Inside, was a thin layer, about 2 ice cream scoops worth, of grounded curry beef served Sloppy Joe style. There was a decent amount of fresh raw cilantro, leaves and stems intact, but a frugal amount of julienned green mango(about 10 – 15 slices). After getting over the slim portions, I took a bite into the sandwich. I found the beef was quite tasty yet slightly greasy for my liking. Since I ordered it spicy, it had a noticable amount of heat from which I believe can be attributed to a few squeezes of the Sriracha hot sauce. The mango helped to cool things down a bit, and the cilantro was a perfect complement adding another level of complex flavors. But overall, I was neither amazed nor disappointed. For $ 7.62, I found this sandwich quite pricey and will most likely stick to the top grade Bahn Mi’s found in Chinatown for a fraction of the price. I’d only recommend coming here if you’ve never been exposed to this type of cuisine, otherwise, I’d keep on walking to bigger and better things. Note: Minimum $ 10 purchase for credit card.

This place is a hole in the wall – a hole in the wall filled with delicious sandwiches. I popped in here at around 12:15, and the line/wait really wasn’t slow. I’d imagine that any time after 12:30 would be dangerous, but come on, ask yourself this: what place isn’t ridiculously crowded in the heat of the lunch rush, especially in an area as congested as the Financial District? There really isn’t a lot of space for anyone, so the space does fill quickly. There are some stools and a little eating bar along one of the walls, but I’d imagine it’s not too pleasant to eat with hungry people over your back. I got the Sloppy Bao, and I had it spicy. There are bottles upon bottles of Sriricha sauce behind the counter, and that should be warning enough for you. The sandwich was spicy, but not too spicy(for my tastes, anyway). The shredded green mango in the Sloppy Bao really provided some extra zing to the sandwich, loved it. The bread is crispy on the outside, and just chewy enough on the inside. Delicious. The price isn’t bad at all, either. Aside from the size of the place, I really can’t muster a complaint about Baoguette. I’ll have to come back and try the other sandwiches and wraps. Hooray for variety in the Financial District!
