I highly recommend using Basia to create your veil! She is so worth it and does an amazing job! I met with Basia to discuss my veil since my dress was a unique color. She was able to match it with my swatch and gave great advice with what kind I should get. She created a veil at the exact length I wanted, with rhinestones all along the edge. It worked perfectly with the dress! I also bought a clip from her for $ 40! It was beautiful and good quality. Usually clips at wedding salons are hundreds!

Basia is an incredible find. Entering her atelier is like being transported back in time to a magical place, somewhere in between old New York and Europe. Her attention to detail is impeccable. You can tell she makes the veil with love. Also the prices are very reasonable and it only took less than two weeks from the time I gave her a swatch to the time it was ready to pick up. In my opinion there is no other place one should go to get a wedding veil in Manhattan. I highly recommend her.

I cannot put into words how special Basia is! She made my veil, and it was one of the most special pieces in my wedding (I think I loved it more than my dress). I went to her with a specific veil style in mind, and came out with something completely different because she showed me a style that I had never even thought of. If I didn’t find her, I probably wouldn’t have had something so unique and beautiful!
I had special family lace that I originally wanted to use to scallop a tulle veil. However, Basia had a completely different vision. She kept suggesting that the veil should be all lace with no tulle. At first I wasn’t sure that I liked the idea; however, during each consultation, she subtly showed me how the veil could look, and I finally saw her vision. I trusted her guidance, and she made a stunning veil with my family’s lace. If Basia offers her opinion — listen! She knows what she’s talking about!
She also created the perfect head piece and belt that complemented my dress and veil. Basia will make sure that you look beautiful, and that each piece matches the entire aesthetic of your wedding.

Basia is the sweetest lady and she puts a lot of love and care into her veils. She is also such a good value for what you get. I’m recommending her to all my friends!

I can’t believe I didn’t write a review sooner. My veil was a fourth of what it would’ve cost at Kleinfeld’s. The veil I wanted at Kleinfeld’s was 2,200, which was the same as my dress from there. My veil from Basia was 500. She’s a detailed worker and listens to exactly what you want. I’d recommend her to anyone.

I wanted a long veil but I didn’t want to spend the $- I thought she was extremmely reasonable and the veil came out amazing! Basia is lovely to work with and the veil made my dress! Thank you Basia!

I’m so grateful for finding Basia and all these great reviews. I honestly did not want to spend hundreds of dollars on a veil and needed to find an alternative. Luckily, that alternative was Basia. I had 2 appointments with her, 1 to give her an idea of what type of veil I was looking for (long veil with a blusher) and 2, to pick up the completed piece. She was so easy to work with and you cannot beat the price! I would definitely recommend her to anyone else getting married. Thanks so much Basia!!!

This woman is a pure delight to work with. She listened to exactly what I wanted, she gave me input where I asked for it, and she created the perfect veil. I also purchased a headpiece that she had made from hand. It looks and feels very artisan. I have been telling every bride I know to go to Basia!

Basia is great to work with! Patient and thoughtful with a fabulous selection of veils and head pieces. I scoured the Web, visited bridal stores — and couldn’t find what I was looking for (Art Deco, ‘20s theme) — until Basia.

Working with Basia was one of my favorite moments from my whole wedding planning experience. I had a very unusual idea of what I wanted for my headpiece and veil – gold and floral since my wedding would be outside in nature.
When my appointment began, Basia (Barbara) sat me down, took out a pen and paper and asked me to describe my dress, my wedding setting and what I was looking for. She took detailed notes and then disappeared into the depths of the thousands of veils/​headpieces she has hanging in her charming apartment/​studio. Barbara reemerged holding the absolute perfect headpiece. She stuck it right in my hair and my mom and I both shed a tear. It was just gorgeous. Barbara has made it some years ago out of various broaches she had found at a flea market. Really one-​of-​a-​kind. Then it was on to the veil — I was wearing a short dress so I needed a short veil. Barbara again disappeared into the depths and reemerged with three options, one of which we chose. It was the first time my mom and I cried throughout the whole experience. Really truly special. And ditto to the comments below — prices are affordable! You must go see Basia.

So I didn’t end up purchasing a belt/​sash from Basia because it would have been a little out of my price range ($ 150; I want to spend less than that, ha!) but I’m still giving her 5 stars because she was a pleasure to work with. From the moment I called her, she had such a pleasant voice (no email or anything; you must call!). She’s probably about 70ish years old so I love the fact that she’s running this business and still doing her thang! :D We made an appointment and she asked me if my mother, who would be joining me, could walk up 4 flights of stairs (there’s no elevator!). I appreciated her consideration. :) She lives in an old school building on the upper west side but her apartment is lovely (she runs the business out of her home). She has a nice set up for wedding accessories as she does belts/​sashes, veils, and head pieces.
She’s very detailed in terms of our conversation when we were there. She took notes and even started drawing some pictures. Of course, it is helpful for you to have pictures to show her! But I am sure she can also design something for you or show you many samples as she did for me. I think it’d be best to tell her your budget upfront which I forgot to do. I am interested in spending less than $ 100 and she definitely has options for that price range but they won’t be as grand, so to speak, so it’s really about what you’re looking for. But she does all the work herself, and that is surely to be valued!
She was completely nice at recommending another store to go to between 37^th and 38^th on 6^th ave that has trimmings (M & J Trimmings) where one could buy accessories for the belt except it’d be DIY!
All in all, Basia is an honest and very friendly person to work with. I can see why she’s gotten so many outstanding reviews!

Basia was absolutely amazing. I just wish I’d found her before I shopped for my dress because I ended up spending an astronomical amount on a belt, not realizing there were other options. Oh well!
I came to Basia and described the veil they’d put on me at Kleinfeld that I’d almost purchased with my dress. She explained why a long veil for an outdoor wedding on the water was something I’d regret and talked me through finding the right length and then the right beading on the edges to match the blingy belt. She then also custom designed a hair comb based on what I thought I’d like. Both pieces were beautiful and perfect. And she was absolutely right about not wanting a long veil. I’m so glad I listened to her.
She doesn’t have email or use a computer. You have to pick up the phone and call her to make an appointment and then hike up all the stairs to get to her but it’s completely worth it and I have recommended her to several people already. You won’t regret having her custom make accessories for your wedding. I’m trying to add photos but Unilocal isn’t working…

Basia is the best! She made me the most gorgeous bridal sash that was perfect for what I was after. She also made me a simple two tiered veil, again perfect for me! She listened to exactly what I wanted and is very detail oriented. Her prices were amazingly reasonable. I would recommend her wholeheartedly to any bride.
Yes, you have to communicate with her via phone as she does not do email. She is the sweetest and I loved seeing her beautiful apartment/​studio and meeting her cute dog Andy. She is super on top of her game, dependable and trustworthy. Go see her!!!

Basia is a magician and a pleasure to work with. Basia reworked my mother’s 1973 veil so I could wear it to my October 2012 wedding. I brought the veil to her in all of its 70’s glory. She made no promises (it was very yellowed and had many holes, was not stored well at all) but called me less than three weeks later to say it was ready. She managed to transform a horribly yellowed 70’s mess into a lovely and simple veil, which was exactly what I wanted. She charged me $ 50 for the veil, which seemed well below what I would have assumed the cost would be. Could not recommend Basia more highly.

Basia (Polish name for Barbara) is a lovely lady with passion to help a bride look amazing. Her prices are ridiculously affordable I was shocked. My appointment was done in 30 mins because the belt trim was so unique and nothing I’ve seen before. If you decided to see her (which you should) make sure to bring a photo of your dress or a swatch of the fabric. You can contact her the old fashion way by phone and leaving a message as she isn’t tech savvy.
Be prepared to go up a few stairs!

Basia is not what you expect for a chic wedding veil/​headpiece designer. She is an older woman, lives on a 5^th floor walk-​up with her adorable dog with hip problems (and big acupuncture bills!) She doesn’t use email (or Unilocal!) and only communicates via phone with a real answering machine. Half of her apartment is her veil studio, which features several mirrors, a lovely vanity and plenty of lace, feather and beading for a bride to sift through.
I visited once before i really knew what i wanted for my wedding (i had a simple dress and wanted to have fun with headpieces), tried a few things, and showed her a photo of an elaborate feathered fascinator a friend wore at her wedding which was published in Veranda. Basia said she could do something similar but i was afraid to commission it because i wasn’t sure it would be exactly what i wanted.
Once i figured out what I wanted– a cathedral-​length mantilla with lace trim that i had tried on at another bridal store (at a hefty $ 1600). Basia made the same thing with even better quality and she charged me a fraction of the cost. When i went to pick the lace for it, she said I had inspired her to make a feather fascinator! She pulled out the most divine headpiece – it was absolutely stunning! I tried it on and bought it on the spot.
The veil and feather headpiece she made me were so special, and so unique, they truly made my wedding look. The photos were fabulous and I got tons of great compliments.
I highly recommend Basia– if you know what she can make it for a lot less, and if you don’t she can suggest things.
