BATSU!

HILARIOUS! Such a good time. Me and my boys went out on a lil man date and it was the best. so funny, all the sake (not fo free) you could drink, and pretty legit sushi. My buddy had to roll a lime off the stage into a cup and couldnt do it. blew the game for us. practically blew the whole night. but batsu! was so good we got over it. looking for something fun to do — do it! BATSU!

Puma son made the night! Sushi was pretty good too. Seaweed salad was big. Would recommend! Two paws up!

One of the best night’s you’ll ever have in NYC! Gather some friends, have a ton of drinks and prepare for a super random, but extremely memorable night. The only downside is that your face is going to hurt from laughing so hard. Affordable, fun, interactive — perfect for bachelor parties, team bonding, date night, ladies night, dudes night, birthdays… literally the best way to enjoy a night out in the city. Go, and go again and again. I’m already going back for my third time…

So much fun! Great to go with a party! The food and drinks are good too. The staff was amazing and the entertainment fantastic! LOVE the host! Sooooo cute!!! Very talented cast.
Price very reasonable $ 25 for tickets but no cover at table. The restaurant upstairs is cool and very good too.

Nothing about this show was funny unless failing at improv or doing things like drinking mop water or getting shot with paintball guns is hilarious to you. Would’ve been downright pissed had I paid full price. Beer was pretty cheap though.

We stumbled on this location and lucked out with another large group canceling. Good sushi, great entertainment! The performers were also very sweet after the show and let us take some awesome photos.
You need to experience the show for yourself but let’s just say a taser was used.

Came here with my friends after a day of work, and it’s definitely a great place to unwind and laugh your stress away! As other comments explained, it’s an improv game with losers of each round receiving a humiliating (and comical) punishment. I’ve been a fan of a japanese group called gaki no tsukai, and this is definitely a good American spin off version!
I worried at first that the prices of food were going to be expensive, but it falls comfortably within the affordable range. Menu is the same as the Jebon restaurant just upstairs if you want to know what food they offer.
The room does get very foggy because of the props, which I didn’t think was needed, but otherwise the environment was great. The performers love interacting the crowds, and you won’t feel left out no matter where you sit.
Overall, I love this place. Will definitely come back with another group of friends in the future. BATSU! BATSU!

Batsu was an amazing evening. Top to bottom I was thoroughly entertained and my face hurt so much from laughing. These guys are hilarious and I was lucky, or unlucky, enough to get called up on stage for the beer chugging contest and lost. My penalty — putting on a lovely ballet performance in a pink tutu and tiara. And I loved it.

BATSU. It’s a word you’ll be hearing all night if you go to one of the improv comedy shows at Jebon.
You have two options: Google what the word means, or come here and find out for yourself what it means. or… you can read the other reviews because everyone else will ruin it for you and tell you what it means.
If I were you, I’d pick the latter. The show was WEIRD to put it mildly, but it was overall it was entertaining. There are parts that require participation from the audience so be prepared to go up and be a part of the «fun». You’ll know why it’s in quotations when you go there. But don’t worry, you’ll be rewarded with beer/​food for entertaining everyone else.
The show is on Thursdays, Select Fridays, and Saturdays at 8:00pm.

Improv theater is always either super awkward or really great — no in between. Luckily, Batsu is 100% the latter.
This is one of those shows where it’s probably best to not know too much beforehand so you can fully experience all of its surprises. I had to convince a group of friends to accompany me and they had no idea what to expect, but ended up crying from laughter throughout the evening.
That being said, here are some tips:
— Arrive early. The doors open half an hour before showtime and you need that time to get good seats, order food/​drinks, use the bathroom, etc.
— Ticket says 8:00pm, but show didn’t start until 8:30pm and lasted until 10ish.
— DON’T order food here. Jebon food is not very good. There is no food minimum.
— DO order drinks as you will be encouraged to drink throughout with the actors!
— DO sign the waiver and participate! The activities aren’t that bad and if you win, you get a free beer and Batsu ticket! You might even win your table a free beer tower.
— DO be fun and appropriately rowdy. The MC does a good job at riling up the crowd.
— DO bring a good group of friends and enjoy!

Batsu means punishment in Japanese, and they really mean it. Stylized in the Japanese comedy show way where contestants have to face Batsu when they fail.
I’ve been going to Jebon for years and would always see the signs posted up for Batsu Thursdays. In more recent years they added on additional shows! So we finally made it a point to get tickets, and we had no regrets!
Without giving too much away about the show, four cast members go through different improv games where the losers all face Batsu. I had the great pleasure of meeting Eric, a cast member and owner of the business.
There’s some audience participation involved in the form of shouting out suggestions (they don’t do dick jokes cause they get old fast!), mob mentality when everyone is chanting Batsu like they want blood, and a good amount of yummy food and drinks courtesy of Jebon!
My friends and I had an awesome time! We loved the skits and loved the Batsu guys. ⁵⁄₅ would come back again.

These guys are endlessly entertaining. The staff is wonderful and the show was amazing. Definitely check it out!

The best way to describe BATSU: «Wow that was REALLY neat»
I came to Batsu for the first (and won’t be last) time this past Saturday to celebrate my friend Alex’s birthday. We stumbled upon the idea a few months ago on social media and have been dying to find an excuse to go, and are really happy that we finally had an excuse to go! We attended with a rather large group of 11 people.
We were really lucky in that we got there early enough that we had a table at the very front right next to the action. My friend Alex and I bought the VIP package which comes with two carafes of Sake and also one BATSU headband. The headband is seriously so neat — basically you wear the headband and the rogue people on stage talk to you the whole time and they bring you shots of sake. It’s $ 12 to buy it separately and I think totally worth it. It’s also a really trendy accessory that should be a great addition to my summer wardrobe. I misunderstood the deal, and thought that I would be getting a headband as well. When I explained my confusion to them, they were kind enough to give one to me free of charge which was really unexpected and great customer service even though I was the one being dumb. Thank you #joshsan
At the beginning they ask you to sign a waiver if you want to potentially go up on stage. My entire table signed up, and I highly recommend that you do it too. Alex was called up to stage probably because it was her birthday. She was invited to do charades (oh wow). Although she gave it her best and left it all on the field, in the end her team failed miserably. But honestly, failing is almost better because they got to participate in BATSU! The hairiest man I have ever seen in my entire life went up on stage in nothing but a Hawaiian skirt (yum) and I knew right away that it was time for body sushi. Soy sauce was drizzled all over his hairy nips and body and the losers were asked to eat sushi right off of him. Oh but the best part is this: they also mixed some soy sauce and wasabi in his belly button. At the end, the MC announced that Alex was invited to drink the soy sauce out of his belly button for a FREE PITCHER OF BEER! Even though we are technically «real people» now, we have found ourselves acting like college students so the lengths that we go to to get a free pitcher of beer are extraordinary. .. extraordinary enough for Alex to drink the soy sauce without a second of hesitation. Not only did we get a free pitcher of beer, but Alex also got a free ticket to come back in the future (yippee!)
The rest of the show featured midgets whipping a man with a ball in his mouth, a chicken man, 50 year old men dancing, and really just about any other ridiculous thing you can think of.
The food was also pretty good! I got the pad thai which was way too spicy but everything else looked good and it was not expensive.
My entire snap story that night was this, and I seriously had 15 people text me asking «where the hell are you and why am I not there with you» and seriously sad for them that they haven’t experienced this yet.
I laughed the absolute entire time and had an absolute blast. I can’t recommend this more.

«BATSU! BATSU! BATSUUUU!»
You’ll find yourself yelling this from the top of your lungs, taking shots, laughing hysterically, and cringing.
Batsu is reminiscent of the over-​the-​top penalty/​punishment games in Japan, complete with a host, sound effects, and costumes. It’s equal parts ridiculous and fun. Located in the basement of Jebon under a soundproof ceiling, my friends and I were huddled tightly around a table as we watched a series of improv acts and competitions.
You can order food and beverages throughout the show, though I would have preferred to have a real meal beforehand.
I’ve been to many improv shows, but the performers here (from Face Off) were incredibly talented and witty. There is plenty of audience participation throughout, whether it’s through yelling «Batsu!» or booing at the performers or even getting up onstage to join them. Never a boring moment.
Obviously, some of the jokes are crude and the punishments can be over-​the-​top, so don’t come with anyone prudish.
The premise of the show is seeing people get punished, so you have to be a liiittle bit twisted to find that appealing, right? You do you!

Came here with a group of 13 and they seated us all together and right next to the stage. This is an improv show with plenty of audience participation… and drinks throughout ! I’ve been to a few improv shows before but these guys are full of energy with great and witty jokes.
You can order food and drinks throughout the show as well! This show was part of NYC comedy week and it was also on a few lists for top things to do in NYC. Overall, I highly recommend it for a casual night out, a birthday, or even as a date!

Had an amazing time! Coming in I thought it would be super intimidating because they would force you to participate on stage. But it was nothing like that. The guys were super nice and they will ask you if you want to volunteer before the show starts, if so you’ll sign a waiver. It was comforting to know that they don’t make you do anything you don’t want to do which made the show much more enjoyable. Thank you guys for a truly hilarious unforgettable night! BATSU!

Ridiculously entertaining in every sense of the word. These guys are a great group and very friendly. They accommodated me without a reservation at the sold out show. Little person in leiterhosen with a riding crop and a giant rubber chicken really sums it up but there is oh so much more so I don’t want to spoil it for you. You’d be a fool to miss this.
I know my next vacation will be to Japan to see more BATSU!

Buying discounted tickets via yPlan made this definitely worth it.
We got to the event 30 mins later than suggested and the entire place was full — bad planning by us. Luckily, they knew we were coming and kind of had seats set aside, but they weren’t the best seats. So, I definitely suggest arriving the time it says on your ticket.
The event itself is so much fun. It’s a lot of improv mixed with some audience participation and a little «punishment» added in for those of you who have a competitive streak.
Go, get some food, get some drinks, and be excited when you get to participate!

I loved loved the show. We came here on a Thursday and grabbed dinner as well.
The show is super funny. I loved how interactive it was and the vibe is just great. They ask for the audience to come up, but I heard you can ask them in advance not to if you are uncomfortable with it. There are VIP and non-​VIP tickets, the place is really small so there really isn’t much difference.
I think it is great for a date and for large groups of friends. Will definitely come back.
