Bierhaus NYC

Went here on Tuesday with coworkers for polka music and trivia. Ordered the seasonal beer per the waitress’s recommendation. She described it as a lager with a grapefruit hint. It just tasted like a regular old lager; nothing special. We ordered fries for the table which weren’t very good but the wings were not bad at all. The polka music was very odd as the singers sang a couple of inappropriate songs about sausages and fat girls which weren’t appealing to the ears. The sax and drum players were pretty good though. Trivia started late and lagged on way too long and the judges were very strict and enforced the rules. The prizes were awful and the questions were odd and scrambled. We will not be coming back for polka and trivia and were highly disappointed with the alcohol and entertainment.

Amazing restaurant & bar, with a great and an authentic German atmosphere! The food is incredible and the beer follows suit! There are also great events held there frequently. Always a nice crowd.
I would recommend the sampler platter. The giant pretzel is great, it comes a homemade mustard (which is out of this world)!

Awesome place, good beer and friendly staff. I love the atmosphere, the balcony and the food is delicious too! I always have a great time here. It’s a fun place.

We started with the potato pancakes which are very good ! In my opinion a must have then I Had the shnitzel with creamy mushroom gravy and some sort of cabbage cucumbers and potatoes, it was phenomenal ! My girlfriend ate spatzle with bacon and cheese she inhaled all of it. Finished up with a crêpe stuffed with Nutella and whipped cream. Service was good and fast. The beer was very tasty and delicious. We Will defiantly be back soon !

Well, by the unsurprised way your manager reacted to the situation — 5 people in a group of less than 10 getting overcharged — I doubt that was the first time it happened. Also, I asked for a separate check when I got in, left over two hours before the group asked for their check, and was charge the same $ 308.66 on top of the original $ 25 charge. So, please, don’t blame it on the check being split.

Beers were great, food was good & most of all I really enjoyed the live music playing on a Friday night.
We had some out of town guests with our group and our waitress was patient and sweet with everyone. It’s always hard going out with a big group but this was pretty stress free!
I would definitely go back, with reservations, with a big group. The communal seating is perfect. As with their other locations around the country (never been to the Munich one), although a little smaller, it was great.

From the moment we walked in, we saw people had to scream at each other to be heard across the table. Ridiculously loud — way above and beyond normal NYC noise. We spun around and went elsewhere down the block.

Danielle was the best! She was super sweet and helpful with choosing the right beer. She gave me tips on food as well!

I worked right across the street from this place for a year and ironically never found it enticing enough to step inside. I mean it’s located on the second floor of a strip of mediocre to crap food places on third avenue (and the whole street has a funny smell), but as soon as I walked inside today I’m like «hmm this is lively and loud– and not in a bad way, why didn’t I come here when I used to work in this area?»
And it was lively and loud but a great place to mingle with coworkers. Beers were good and so were the bites (we ordered the BBQ wings, waffle fries, and some type of flatbread). The flatbread wasn’t good but the other 2 items were great. I was super impressed with our server — she was able to remember everyone’s drink order and keep track of the 50 cards we had open tabs for — I mean that’s just skill.

Wowiezowie! Tuesday nights are popping off at this fine beer haus and eatery. Can you say trivia night?! According to my «friend» (parole officer), the soda water and lime is ‘off the chain’. Regular lager is a good beer to drink if ur a classic man like myself.

Amazing service when not too busy. Great priced beer. Mimosa tower for brunch is a must try. Fun games offered like giant Jenga and Heads up.
Waitresses dressed in authentic lederhosen makes the experience that much better.

Can’t really give an objective review on a beer garden without trying beer there, but I’ve tried food… and I wish I have not. First dish we ordered had a weird german name, something like Dunkelshalktndrburnster, which was two wieners served with mashed potatoes and cabbage. Unexpectedly, potatoes were ice cold and cabbage was served hot. Life didn’t prepare me for that. Then we ordered wings, which we didn’t expect much from anyways. Everybody else enjoyed beer and atmosphere, there was I really nice live band playing pop-​hits in polka arrangement and everyone had lots of fun. However, food is a big downside…

Loved this place. Came here to grab some beer and some food for brunch with a large group of friends. The atmosphere was great and very similar to the original Hofbrau House in Munich. The pretzels were nice and the Jäger wings were über savory. All in all we had a great time and our server Atarah was super cool and friendly making the experience more enjoyable. Will definitely try and come here again. Maybe at night when the band is on and the place is more lively!

Loved this place for an afternoon drink on our NYC trip! The atmosphere is so bright and lively. Service was truly great. My family and I sampled a couple of the authentic German beers. We also ordered a large pretzel with spicy mustard and the chips with beer cheese dip. Both appetizers were delicious! Our beers were a perfect happy hour decision. I would definitely return!

If you had the chance to visit the original Hofbrauhaus in Munich like myself. this place will definitely bring back some good memories. While this place definitely pales in terms of size and scope when compared to one of Germany’s most famous beer houses, it still has a lot of the things that makes this place a great place to put down some serious beers.
First off, the communal seating definitely brings the feel of a beer house front and center. They also, like its Munich counterpart, only serve Hofbrau beers. There are seasonal variations, or you can simply choose from their standard lager or dark offerings. I’m a fan of their original blend and it was cool to see that what I ordered here was the same as what I drank in Munich, right down to the exact same 1L giant stein that weighs like a bowling ball. After guzzling that one liter bomb (or 2L if you’re feeling ambitious), your stomach will feel like a bowling ball too. But at least the beer is solid and easy on the palate.
The food here was generally decent. Despite my reservations based on some of the reviews here, I decided to give the wurst platter a try. Generally I would have to agree that not all the sausages were equally as good. I’d say of the 5 that was on the platter, I thoroughly enjoyed 3 of them, 1 was okay and there was one that was stuffed with some kind of cheese or egg that didn’t really agree with me. The huge servings of cabbage, sauerkraut and potato salad were generous and tasted good, although this plate can easily feed 2 people with a big appetite (or 3 less hungry folks).
The spatzle soup was decent and reminded me of the kind I tried and enjoyed when I was in Germany. And of course, a visit to the Hofbrauhaus would not be complete without trying their giant pretzel. The size of it was exactly the same as what you get when you order the same thing in Munich. The pretzel itself was really good. nice and chewy and paired nicely with either the regular or traditional German sweet mustard.
The ambiance of this place can get loud, as you would expect from a bierhaus with communal seating. I personally came here on the early side because I wanted to catch a Bundesliga game as I’m a big FC Bayern Munich fan. Since this place doesn’t open until around 11:30am or so, I’m only able to catch the late games (German time) here … and the place wasn’t exactly packed with fellow FCB fans. However, the Bravarian ambiance definitely was awesome and was the perfect place to watch the Munich game. The service here was also friendly (way more friendly than the crazy hustle and bustle of their German counterparts) and everyone did a nice job of taking care of us.
Since I’m a fan of beer, German food and soccer. I’ll definitely be here often. While I can’t say the food will blow your mind compared to other places I’ve tried, it’s still decent enough for people who are hankering for Bravarian grub and want a serious amount of good booze!

The beer is of course good. Bites are tasty. I had the schnitzel bites, crunchy and fried enough. The menu have plenty of options, all Germans.
The place has common share tables, lots of flags and lots of tv screens. Although maybe is fun come here to see a sport game, on a common evening, they are really distracting, especially if they are tuned on different channels at the same time.
The place have also board games for the public like connect 4, big jenga, etc. On the menu they are called Adult Daycare Games, or something like that.

This is where men and women drink beer out of steins and boots. The stein is 1L, the boot is 2L. I hate to admit that I drank my beer from a 0.5 L mug, because I am really not a big beer drinker.
There are a few different beers. Ladies– I recommend the wheat beer: Hofbrau Hefe Weizen. You can definitely taste a lite bit of banana. If you like Blue Moon and HoeGarden, you will like the wheat beer here. If you can’t decide on a beer, do the flight of beer– 5 beers for $ 11.
Food wise, please do not bring your vegetarian friends. This place is where you come to eat meat. We started off with the beircheese dip & chips. The thick-​cut potato chips were a little bit too greasy, but the cheese was good. We also had the schnitzel fingers, which were good– it came with spicy mayo, that wasn’t that spicy. We also had the bratwurst (pork and veal), which came with potatoes, sauerkraut, and sweet and spicy mustard. The sausage was very very good.
There was also loud music when we went which was on a Saturday night. The band was pretty good. There were 2 super drunk tables near us. In other words, you should be ok dealing with drunk drunk people trying to chug 2L of beer. This place is great for groups– they have long communal tables.

Once you reach the top of the stairs and enter the Bierhaus you are instantly swept away from the busy NYC atmosphere outside! Multiple times during our visit I did a double take when I realized I was still in the city, because of the authentic décor and atmosphere of the room.
We had the opportunity to visit for lunch one Saturday and had a great experience. The restaurant was not crowded and we were able to chat and relax while enjoying our German food and beverages. I can understand how it could be noisy during a busy evening crowd with music, but at lunch time it is a perfect spot to grab a bite to eat.
We sampled several dishes during our visit: The Allgäuer Kässpatzen (Spätzle and red onions with melted gouda cheese, topped with fried onions and bacon) was delicious! The currywurst was very tasty and reminded me of something I had years ago at a SchnellImbiss. My wife had the Haus Grilled Cheese (Toasted bread served with cheddar cheese, Black Forest Ham, bacon and sauerkraut) which she thoroughly enjoyed! Both entrees came with waffle fries, which was different for a German restaurant, but they were delicious! Some of the best waffle fries I have eaten.
The BH only serves Hofbrau beer, which if totally fine by me! It has been many years since I have had a a HB Dunkel on draft! Wow how I have missed this! My wife enjoyed a nice warm «cider», since it was February!
Overall the service was friendly and attentive. I will definitely visit again to sample some of their other menu items and maybe try Das Boot (JK).

Bierhaus was the time of my life, between the shot-​skis and The boots it gave my friends and I a night to remember … or forget. The pastrami steak was crazy good. and the staff was all about the party! Definitely going back!

I’m a big fan of German beer halls and this place is no exception. I came here about 2 months ago, the day of Santacon, but never got around to writing a review. The bar tenders were awesome, the beer was nice and cold and the prices were reasonable.
The Wurst Sampler was great. I can’t speak much about authentic German food but I’m pretty sure this was as close as it gets.
We met some people who were visiting NYC from Germany. Not sure what their thought process was leading up to them to being there as I wouldn’t be looking for a hot dog cart while in Germany.
Eitherway, we had a blast, drank liters of Hofbrau Dunkel and took shots of Jaeger. The remainder of the night was not as clear. Lol

Eh — beer was warm and pretzel was just ok. Not much in the neighborhood except for Irish pubs, so I’ll take it, but I’m not happy.

One of my favorite places to go to when Im in the city. The staff is always warm and and friendly and you can never go wrong with a beer and warm pretzel with the dipping sauces. I attended their ugly Christmas party and had a great time. Their Facebook is constantly posting about their upcoming events that they are hosting. I deff plan on coming back soon!

Love their homemade mustard, it’s the best I have ever had! Great atmosphere and good prices for NYC!

Ordered the pork shank for 2. If you like crackle (extra crispy pork skin) you need to order this. Meat was tender and the potatoes and sauerkraut were a plus. Add a beer and we were happy.

A fun place for a big group of people… super loud and difficult to have conversations but great for party, drinks and some live music.

A fun joint. Not incredibly «authentic» but its not entirely supposed to be. I went with a bunch of Austrians and they were pleasantly surprised by the Bier and Food selection. Giant biers in glass boots, and Jaeger Ski-​Shots. It gets REALLY LOUD & CROWDED on the ‘good nights’. The giant pretzels and dipping cheese is a must-​have. I also cant complain about lovely waitresses in knee-​high socks!

I love the atmosphere in this restaurant! I have been here on several different occasions and love the variety of live music on the different nights! Tuesday night’s are great for Trivia, bring a group of friends! The chef is from Cologne, Germany and brings an authentic twist to this Manhattan location! Always order a stein of bier– «When in Munich!» German food pairs great with bier, and so do the ‘haus wings.’ The staff is friendly and always pose for pictures and make sure you enjoy your time! Expect the best! Highly recommended.

They hit the nail in the head at being great afterwork drinks spot. Really nice spot to mingle with friends and co workers since it is not super packed that you spill your beer anytime someone tries to squeeze by you and not super loud so you have to yell from top of your lungs.
They have a decent selection of beers, very friendly bartenders, cute waitresses in German outfits, solid bar menu with delicious wings and giant pretzel which reminds of of Amy’s pretzel costume at Big Bang Theory. Tables are set as a communal tables which adds the nice welcoming touch.
And most imprtantly-​they have an awesome life music few times each week.

After a pretty disappointing night out, my friend and I ended up at Bierhaus once we read that they had great food! Forget the fact that they gave us drinks on the house — their grilled cheese was to die for! If nothing else, just come here for the grilled cheese and the waffle fries that come with it! That is all.

What a great find in midtown! We stopped in for a bite and beer as a late lunch and were not disappointed. Having lived in Germany for 4 years, this is a pretty authentic place — the décor, the food and the beer. Everything was delicious! The service was wonderful and the pricing was very good for Manhattan. There are a lot of TVs around as well, which would make this a great stop during football season. We’ll be back in next time in NYC!

Came here on a Thursday after work and although it was crowded, the place is big enough where you don’t feel like a sardine. Beer is great and the staff was super friendly and attentive. I also enjoyed the live music, even though it made the bar extremely loud, so I wouldn’t come here just to sit and talk.

Came here with a party of 12. Drinks and food came out relatively quick for a busy night. Good service, nice environment.

very fun place with lively atmosphere and sense of humor. was there last night for Trivia. prices not too bad for the area. one quibble: its too loud, the band could turn it down some, (and yes i know its a german beer hall thing, but still)

Saturday Stroll
We stumbled into Bierhaus and boy was I a happy camper! This place is huge. We got here around midnight but it wasn’t very crowded. As usual, by this time we were starving so we got a grilled cheese because it was one of the only things I understood on the menu. Holy cow, it was the best drunk grille dead cheese and waffles fries I have ever had! When I bought the first round, the bartender offered me the second round on them! The staff and service here was wonderful and I can’t wait to be back!

Spectacular! Awesome food and service. The beer selection is great. They even have a small outdoor deck that overlooks 3^rd avenue. Come with a group and have fun!

Had an enjoyable experience here on a recent trip with my dad and brother on a busy Friday night. Service was friendly and helpful with recommendations. Drinks were a bit pricey for what you get, but the food was good and a nice change of pace. Make sure you check in so that you can take advantage of the pretzel discount. Live entertainment was fun and next time we’ll have to brink a group that will do the shot ski!

Solid Bavarian-​feeling «beer hall» that offers a nice contrast to the numerous Irish pubs in the vicinity. Drink and food menus are almost all traditional German options. No happy hour specials here. There are a number of tables perfect for drinking with your large group, or sharing with another small group. There is a standing bar area, which gets crowded pretty fast.
Crowd is heavily midtown east working crowd, lots of business casual. I did meet German girls here in a Friday night many years ago, though. Unlikely to happen to you right after work.
Out of the handful of beer hall, German places. This one is meh. Good if you’re nearby and want something new, not the place to travel to (Zum Schneider, Houston Hall are a few more worth that).

The beer is not cold enough. Typical of Hofbrauhaus they have Lager, Hefe, seasonal and Dunkel. They also have the shotski if you have 3 friends with you (or soon to be friends) to take a shot with you.
That being said, the Hefe and the Dunkel are both delicious. Be prepared as beers are: $ 8 for .5 liter, $ 16 for 1 liter and $ 32 for das boot.
Food: I wish they had huhnersnitzel instead of just weiner. The roasted chicken with vegetables is fantastic and highly recommend.
If you are ordering pretzels for appetizer, go for the large instead of regular. Its about twice the amount for just a little bit more. I wasn’t really impressed by the mustard or sweet sauce that comes with the pretzel. If you get the pretzels you should definitely get the beer cheese sauce.
Atmosphere: It’s typical of Hofbrauhaus. Been to the one here, Vegas, and a couple other locations. They all have the long wooden tables accompanied by benches, waitresses wearing lederhosen and german style decorations. A few tvs and some had soccer, kung foo panda, and others had news.
Those with kids: They DO NOT HAVE HIGH CHAIRS. This is much more important when you have a toddler trying to squeeze into a table that with booster their legs just get slammed against the bottom of the table.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon.
Ambience: Indoor beer garden with waitresses dressed up like German beer girls. At around 5pm, a live band came on.
Drinks: You would think they would have a large selection of beers, but they don’t.
Food: Ehhh dry and not much flavor. One of the reasons Germany is not on my list of places to visit.
Service: Our waitress was rude and cold. I saw that other waitresses serving other tables were much nicer.
Prices: Decent

I was meeting friends for drinks & ended up coming here on our way to the bar we completely missed the entrance it’s like hidden between Wendy’s & the place next to It kinda funny since we just didn’t even see it.
First time here so upon entering I was like wait what ?? Interesting looking place u feel like u have just walked into a bar somewhere in Germany kinda cool, different.
I like the way the place is set up, open space bar to the left seating area in the middle they also have an outside seating area by the balcony since we were here just for drinks we found a spot & sat at bar.
The place had a live band playing German music, kinda cool this adds to the décor as well as the way the staff is dressed.
Interesting selection of beers we tried the Müncher Sommer & Hofbräu Premium, Müncher has a lighter taste since it’s a summer brew the Hofbräu had a nice taste as well not too heavy both decent choices.
We also had a few rounds of shots we tried the Obstler liquor shots, whoa strong taste for sure not bad.
Service at the bar was good, prices are reasonable for drinks no food this time maybe the next over all something different to check out we enjoyed ourselves.

Blink and you’ll miss the entrance but once you climb the stairs, this German beer hall has an authentic-​ish Oktoberfest feel (bearing in mind it’s in the heart of touristy Manhattan). The serving girls are dressed in dirndls & the band in lederhosen. Piano accordion is generally my most hated instrument but the three piece that was playing when we were there were actually able to pull off tunes such as «Viva Las Vegas» and «Faith».
The place filled up by early evening but the service was still friendly and attentive. They have (unsurprisingly) a range of Hofbrau beers, which are fairly middle of the road. However, they are very pricey, which was not helped by being charged for fries that we never ordered or received. Yeah, we should have checked the bill more carefully! We had the Oktoberfest Platter which we were told was too much food for two, and at $ 46 we expected a lot. It was a basic selection of (mini) sausages, cheese, salami, pork belly on a skewer etc, all on a leaf salad bed that padded it out. Not huge eaters but this was *not* a lot of food for two and way over-​priced. One litre (basically 2 US pints) beers ranged from $ 16 for a Hefeweizen upwards.
When busy, you will have random people seated beside you, which has potential for good and not so good… They also do trivia, which is somewhat bizarre & definitely not something I’ve experienced in the Hoffbrauhaus at Oktoberfest! :)
Even with the overcharging issue, it would only have taken them from a weak 3 star to a solid 3 star for me. Not a bad place overall but if you want a Bierhall experience and don’t particularly need to be in Manhattan, check out Radegast in Williamsburg for a far better quality experience.

2.5 stars, rounded down to 2. Now, I’m not a big beer drinker by any means, so my review really only pertains to the food and the service.
The atmosphere of Bierhaus is very lax, with nice music playing in the background and a very open space. Came with a group of 8 for dinner Sunday night and chose a table near the windows. For some reason there was only one waitress on duty and there were probably 6 or 7 other parties in the beer hall.
Anyway, I was famished, so our first group of five people that arrived ordered the Bier Cheese Spread with Three Pretzels ($ 18) and the Wurst Sampler ($ 26). I honestly probably should have just stopped there for food, but everyone ordered an entrée dish as well so I got the Bierhaus Burger ($ 15). While I didn’t order any beer, the other 7 members of my party each ordered 1 L pitchers ($ 16 each).
The total of our bill including gratuity was $ 356 for 8 people. I personally paid $ 35 for my share of the pretzels and the wurst sampler, and my burger. Steep pricing for mediocre service, though I will admit it was a lot of food.
So let’s back track. We get our pretzels and wurst sampler, but we received no plates and no utensils. Because the waitress was the only one running around, it took us awhile to wave her back down again just for that. One of my friends asked the waitress what whiskey they had, and she kind of sort of answered and said Jack Daniels (of course, it’s the most generic whiskey you could get) and «others», so my friend ended up ordering the Jack. Well, turns out, surprise surprise, they actually didn’t have any Jack Daniels, so the waitress had to come back and list off the whiskeys that they did have. Friend ended up ordering Black Label.
When the other three members of our party arrived, the original five of us already had ordered our food and gotten the drinks we ordered. It, however, took forever for the waitress to come back and get the food orders for our three new guests. And when she did come back, she took the orders of two of the people and just forgot about the third guy. I actually had to raise my voice and tell her to come back because by that time, I had been out of water for awhile and wanted more water too.
Now on to the food…
Bier Cheese Spread with Pretzels – These are actually phenomenal. The pretzels are very large, though it kind of bothered me that the bottom was extremely delicious and doughy, but the knot part of the pretzel was thinner and more stiff. I of course ate only the bottom doughy parts of the pretzel. The bier cheese spread was quite tasty, though extremely hard to get out of the dish it was in, especially because we didn’t have any forks or knives at this point. B+
Wurst Sampler – The wursts were actually also quite good. Would have loved to been told which one was which. There was one I really didn’t like that much, I would love to order the other wursts if I ever decide to come back again in the future, but we weren’t given much of an introduction to the dish so I couldn’t really tell you if I liked the bratwurst, the kasekrainer, the andouille, the cervelatwurst, or the bauernwurst (and yes, I’m currently looking at the menu and copying down these complicated names just to make a point). Didn’t care much for the potato salad or sauerkraut personally. Don’t think our waitress asked if we wanted the sweet or spicy mustard either, so I have no idea what we got (didn’t try it). B
Bierhaus Burger – Amazing burger! Amazing fries! This was totally worth it for $ 15, except I was so full from the pretzels and wurst sampler that I only ate half of my burger and gave my friend who came late the other half. The bacon in the burger was cooked to a crispy perfection. My only complaint is that the cheese spread was a bit uneven. I took a bite at one point and all I got was bread and cheese spread. Oof. The fries were also really really good. They were crispy and seasoned to perfection, with little to no oil residue. A
My friends ordered bratwurst and pepper sandwiches, the jagerschnitzel, a cheese plate, and stuffed schnitzels. They all enjoyed their food a fair bit, but the people who ended up getting beers ended up paying about $ 50 each.
Love it when we pay 18−20% gratuity for pretty much bare minimal service from a waitress who didn’t know what whiskey they carried and could never be found. I won’t lie, I feel bad, she was probably swamped jugglign all the tables herself.
If I were to come back, it would be to get a sandwich (burger would be a 4 star rating itself. Even the pretzels would be 4 stars). I would not get the appetizers because the pricing is just not worth it.

I’m on a ketogenic diet and don’t eat carbs unless there’s a new food to review, so beer is dead to me. Don’t get me wrong — I love beer. I brewed beer all throughout my 12 years of university. But now that I’m fat and old I don’t drink it anymore unless I’m dying to try something. I’d rather use my carbs on something else.
That means I’m reviewing Bierhaus from a food-​centric point of view, not a beer point of view, which is: a) probably it’s strength in the first place, and b) what most people are interested in. That’s why I told you that you should stop reading my review.
You see, I’m an extreme foodie. I’m also a beerie, but for now, a non-​practicing beerie.
Waitstaff is dressed in ropas típicas alemánas (se llama «dirndl»). Super friendly. I really liked the Dominicana — very attentive, really friendly, cheerful, made us feel welcomed. Wow is she cute! Bierhaus should be proud of its staff.
The inside is pretty typical North American bierhaus. They all more or less look the same. Rephrased in 2010’s terms, they follow the «Bierhaus brand» very carefully. Lots of room between tables, nice roomy open atmosphere. We came here for lunch, but I can see this place packing them in at night. I’ve read there’s music here at night. Terrific! I hope they «keep it real» by playing Polka and Oompah music!
From what I’ve sampled, the food here is pretty good: not excellent, not bad, not inspired, not uninspired. It’s clear the focus is the beer, with food being secondary. And that’s the way it should be, I suppose. After all, it’s a bierhaus, not a wursthaus!

Typical American bratwurst. In Germany, «bratwurst» is a generic term meaning any sausage with very fine grain. Cut an Italian sausage in half and you see chunks and globules, right? Brat means «finely chopped» and wurst is «sausage». Cut a bratwurst in half and you’ll see a homogenous landscape of meat
However, in the USA, bratwurst has become synonymous with Knockwurst, a white pork sausage, made from milk, chives, and very little garlic. A very mild sausage that is supposed to showcase your awesome mustard and sauerkraut.
What about *this* bratwurst? I would’ve liked more garlic. They grill this sausage, rather than boiling it in beer, therefore, I would’ve liked to have seen a slightly crispier casing, and far more grill marks. The flavor wasn’t very dynamic, although Bierhaus’s mustard is so awesome, the whole thing together was excellent. I’d rate this sausage pretty average: a B.
Käsekrainer: B
A Slovenian sausage, which is the Austrian answer to kielbasa. A typical käsekrainer should have cheese, which I didn’t detect. It should also be more savory, being flavored by bacon as well as pork. I didn’t detect that, either. I would’ve liked something more savory, more authentic. Again, more grill marks would’ve been nice.
Chicken Sausage: B+
I’m giving this a B+, only because when I read «chicken sausage». I braced myself for the wurst and was pleasantly surprised (did you see what I just did there?) It was surprisingly savory and garlicky. Nice texture, somewhere in between a bratwurst and an Italian sausage. I hate myself for liking the chicken sausage, but there ya go. More grill marks would’ve been a nice touch.
Bauernwurst: B+
A farmer’s sausage, inexpertly made by design. I guess the closest description I can come up would be a less peppery version of the larger dirty water dogs you can buy on the streets of NYC.
I would’ve liked more garlic. Crispier casing. There wasn’t much to distinguish this from an overgrown Hebrew National. It was still very good, mind you. Just not special. Hence, the B.
Spicy Mustard: A
A top-​notch mustard. Probably prepackaged from a distributor, but they did a good job picking it out. Totally appropriate for German sausage and compliments the food perfectly. Kudos!
Potato Salad: B
I was under the impression that Germans ate their potato salad warm and with bacon bits? This was cold and no bacon. Still very good.
Radish Salad: A–
Quite delicious, but I feel a little ashamed admitting this didn’t look like pickled radish. It looked like pickled carrots to me. Whatever the case, it was pickled deliciousness! Loved it!

On a Saturday afternoon, I expected this place to be packed! It was nearly empty when we walked in around 2PM and was about half full when we left around 4PM.
Beer was actually reasonably priced at $ 8/​half liter vs $ 13 at other beirgartens.
Since it was a cloudy day, only the tables in the middle received natural light and the rest of the room was pretty dark. There was also this odd documentary playing on one of the big screens (B&W, subtitles) and only one game was on when there were various at that time.
I think this place has serious potential and hope they can figure out how to get some crowds!
