Beware of the high cost of sending your pet here. If I known all these reviews I would not taken my dog here. I also would not trust their care for your pets here. Over medicated, suggest surgery, and tests. I’m not sure if all this was needed or they wanted to make money. My dog did not make it and had him cremated here which was another mistake. It took over a month not the fault of the cremation place but the workers are not doing there jobs. My dog sat there for 3 weeks and not picked up because someone failed to do there job. I had to call a lot of times until 3 weeks and someone checked to find out that it has never bind picked up for cremation.

The very best veterinary hospital. Dr. Lachowitz saved my dogs life from cancer. I was told they could possibly give him two more years with treatment and he is now fours years out. I can’t say too many good things about Blue Pearl Veterinary Hospital.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr Mundy. She is extremely competent of course but incredibly kind and gentle. She obviously loves the animals and inspires confidence. There are places that are more convenient for me to have my dog’s eye surgery, but I am coming back here for Dr. Mundy. If your dogs has eye issues, go here.

The doctor herself was actually sweet and professional but I will never go back and do not recommend this place

I woke up on my birthday ready to party but then I noticed my dog’s eyes were completely gray. My dog is a 9 year old beagle and while she’s no spring chicken, she’s in great health. Her eyes looked like they were hurting her and my first thought was perhaps she was going blind followed by the fear she may have glaucoma.
Our go-​to vet did not take walk ins and were not open at the time we noticed the emergency. A quick google search later and I carried my girl all the way to BluePearl in a backpack. We got there at 8am, not a lot of staff were around but those that helped us were extremely sympathetic to our emergency and their calm demeanor really comforted us. We waited quite a bit for a vet to check out our girl and after a preliminary checkup, we waited for the eye doctor to check her out. Prognosis: Anterior Uveitis
We spent the entire day there. But by the time we left, they had already given my dog a dose of eye drops that seemed to work instantly.
The bill was definitely not my favorite but if i had another emergency, i would definitely come back here.

After Mr. Pug had surgery at HSNY, he received his annual vaccines and I totally forgot to mention that he was allergic to vaccines so we had to rush him here. The manager here was was good friends with the boss at HSNY so I’m not sure if I received special treatment. I bought Mr. Pug downstairs to their ICU/​ER suite and placed him in the oxygen cage as I told them the story. Shortly after, they started calculating doses and preparing drugs as I completed the paperwork upstairs. I stayed upstairs in the lobby/​waiting area until I knew Mr. Pug was stable. He spent a night in the oxygen cage and the ER veterinarian kept me updated constantly. They took great care of him and I came to pick him up the following morning.
The waiting area is quite impressive, they have a coffee/​tea station for free as well as free soda! I’ve never seen this available in a hospital.

By far the worst service I have ever received. The receptionist was the most unfriendly person I have ever met and so was the vet. They let our dog throw up blood for an hour before anyone even looked at her because they wanted the money first (alot of money) .
Do not take your dogs here, it’s a place where they care about money not animals!!!

The one star rating is for the near unethical pricing of this place. The staff is courteous and the specialist we saw (dental — Mary Buelow) was phenomenal and would get a five star rating if this was about them, but the price is just so out of range even for NYC that I do feel compelled to warn people, if you have the luxury of time please investigate the price options if the specialist works at other, non-​Blue Pearl locations. Our cat had seven extractions and it was a $ 2,500 procedure. Last year when he had twenty extractions at his regular, and by no means inexpensive, vet it was under $ 1,000 for all twenty extractions, including a pre-​op EKG.
I feel bad writing this as I don’t want this to reflect poorly on Dr. Buelow or her assistant in any way, shape or form. I highly recommend her. The procedure was quick, done well, and our guy received excellent care and follow up. We even got a full written report to take home with a very cute photo of him on the cover.
We do use VERG for our specialist needs and the prices are much lower by comparison on the Internal Medicine front. Unfortunately VERG doesn’t have a vet dentist (hint hint Dr. Buelow!) and given our guy’s history I wanted to have a specialist handle his final dental. I would recommend consulting with Dr. Buelow’s office in Yonkers for a price first.

Had a Sunday emergency with my 9.5 year old dog. He has a reoccurring back issue that requires a visit to a vet to obtain the right medications. Unfortunately the vets that were open in the neighborhood didn’t have any appointments. So I decided to try blue pearl. Went in around 7:30pm and was home by 9. They saw me immediately and were very careful when handling my dog. Everybody was great. I knew exactly what I needed for him, so it was a quick and easy visit. They didn’t suggest anything more than the conservative solutions to the problem, and if it worsens, THEN take further action.
I walked out of here paying $ 27 more than the last time this happened and I saw my regular vet, only it took ¼ the time.
So my experience was great. Shrug

I had literally one of the worst customer service experiences with the reception staff here. I called with an inquiry about my pet, in a stressful situation as my vet was closed and I was unfortunately supposed to be about one hour from taking her to the sitter and 15 hours out from having to get on a plane to another country. the first woman I spoke to was short, condescending, and rather rude to me, abruptly putting me on hold and hanging up the phone in the middle of the conversation! the second woman I spoke to offered no help, simply repeating herself using the same rude and condescending tone. when I was fed up not getting help or answers and knew the conversation was going nowhere, I asked if there was another after hours clinic she could refer me to. with that she just hung up the phone! I called back hoping we had been disconnected and when she answered she didn’t even bother with a ‘hello’ or the name of the place and just rudely addressed me saying she couldn’t help me. (imagine if it had been another person calling!)
customer service is always important, and I can’t really think of a place where it is as needed as an emergency clinic. the only people who call emergency clinics are people who are scared, nervous, worried, and tense. the last thing they need to hear is rudeness or condescension! it is frightening enough having a sick or possibly sick pet. the attitude I got from the two women I spoke to here gave no sense of love, or even care for animals. there was absolutely no need for the rudeness and coldness they gave, and it was clear they did not seem to care about my pet. as a pet owner, the respect and appreciation of all animals should be the first trait you look for in anyone who works in a veterinary clinic! that is sadly absent here. if you love you pet I strongly suggest you give this clinic a wide berth!!!

Felt compelled to write a review to give this place credit in saving a dog! While I was on my walk to work there was a pitbull puppy loose at the corner of 5^th and 16^th close to getting hit by a car. Although he had a harness and had a registered ID there was no contact info for an owner. I was late to work and happened to be across from this vet. I walked in and they took the dog in with open arms. You could tell the staff here has a good heart and truly cares about animals!

Patricia Mundy, VetMB MRCVS ACVO was AWESOME! My baby pug had a very scary eye scratch. Dr Mundy walked us through the recovery process providing excellent service while helping to keep the cost down. I would recommend her to anyone!

They are now Blue Pearl (Emergency Vet Services). Still 24hrs. Came here after the recommendation of initial vet for emergency care, to treat my furbaby who obtained a skin cut of 5 – 6 holes from The American Academy of Pet Grooming (be sure to read my review on that). The staff here is very friendly and we saw Dr. Jeffrey Ganus, who was professional, confident and on point in treating my dog’s wound. 5 stars for him and majority of the staff, but 4 stars for never receiving the follow-​up email I was suppose to get.

Brought our two year old Pittie in yesterday as she had gotten into massive amounts of dark chocolate. She was seen by a doctor within minutes. The staff up front are friendly, compassionate and efficient. Doc wisely asked a whole bunch of questions regarding amount of chocolate and timeline. She needed to be admitted, treated and monitored overnight. Dr. Desjardin (sp?) was great about keeping me informed about my dog’s condition during her stay. These people are real professionals and I felt my dog was in good hands. It wasn’t cheap but I certainly did not feel I was overcharged. I only Wish out hospitals worked this efficiently.
Highly recommend !

Took my pet here not long ago for mostly superficial stitches. He died within 48 hours. Hospitals can be a dangerous place for the old (weakened immune systems etc) so I don’t blame the Vet for this aspect of what happened. They pushed for every test in the book after I brought him back in, pointed at dark spots on charts, speculating at a dozen different possible cancers or old injuries (all while running up $ 3k in fees) all the while shrugging their shoulders and looking confused. I continually brought to their attention that he had clearly caught something from his first visit the day before. He wasn’t dying from a previously unknown cancer, or a broken paw a decade old.
This level of incompetents implies one of only two options: their objective is to take advantage of their customers and run up their bills with no care for the animals health or they lack even second grade levels of rationale thought. In either case I certainly can’t in good faith recommend taking a loved pet here. On the other hand if you are looking for a way to avoid suspicion when say that girlfriends dog you hate doesn’t return home… this is a pretty good option.

Dr. Pavia and the staff here are amazing!
I am so thankful for them. They saved my little girls life. Hearing what my pup went through after an attack and how thorough Dr. Pavia was… I am forever grateful. They picked up the phones at all hours of the night so we could check on our girl. They were always so kind and helpful every time we called (and it was a lot). They explained every procedure in detail. Their communication with the pet owner is incredible. Definitely recommend them and would trust them to perform any procedure on my dog.

²⁴⁄₇ emergency vet services. Unfortunately have had to make several visits here, but each time I’ve been impressed with the care. The vets I’ve met with took the time to explain circumstances and potential causes for my dog’s health issues (one cardiac and one a stomach bug). Each time they gave me options for next steps for care, and I didn’t feel pressured into opting into the most comprehensive (read: lucrative) choice. They also follow up to see how your pet is doing a day or two out from discharge.
–1 for the price tag.

Last night, like a switch was flipped, my best bud lost all use of his hind legs. Every single person we dealt with at this hospital was kind, understanding, communicative, and patient. When the worst news we could hear was delivered they gave us all the time we needed to make the right decision for him. When it was time to say goodbye they didn’t rush us. It was a horrible night, and while I’m glad to say I’ll never have to come here again, I would refer a friend without any doubts.

I have mixed feelings about this place. I have had to go there several times.
when your pet is sick, you are desperate to find the solution. So vets know that and they have you by the short hairs and they try to sell you anything. I think finding an honest vet is the real problem in NYC.
Pros: the vets here are excellent. They treated my pet v. gently and she was not stressed by the visit. They send you a follow up email with the clinic write up of your pet’s condition. 24 hour care is good for emergencies, but you have your choice of 24 hour vets in NYC.
Cons: their fees are ridiculous. Consultation fee is $ 200 — that does not include anything other than the vet walking in the room and looking at your pet. If the vet picks up any diagnostic tool the fee goes up. So prepare yourself because the $ 200 vet visit is more likely to be $ 400+ –ish.
I was quoted $ 5,000 for a diagnostic test. yikes.
I have found the vets here vary with their attitude. some spend time to explain things, some just walk out after 5 mins. Yeah, your bill is going to average $ 400-​$ 700 and the vet just walks out without saying anything.
They make you wait. this place has absolutely NO respect for your time. I have spent 2 – 3 hours waiting for the vet. Not kidding.
the receptionists are terrible. They do nothing and they make NO effort to help you. Absolutely ridiculous. My feeling is they are just there to take your payment and spend the rest of their day wishing you would go away.
The place is nice — but really, I don’t want to pay for art work, fancy mahogany desks etc… I just want to be in a clean clinic with a capable and HONEST vet.
This is stupid to include, but it underscores the receptionists being useless — there is a Keurig coffee machine in the reception area that doesn’t work well. and the receptionists won’t even lift a finger to help you with that.

My biggest gripe with vets in general (not just this place) in NYC is this– I get X-​rays/​sonogram/​echocardiograms done at the previous vet and carry the results and films with me to the next vet to show them for second opinion.
Without fail, the second vet says they can’t possibly read the test results I brought because they are substandard or something and they absolutely must repeat the X-​rays or whatever test I just had done. This has happened to me at EVERY vet. so you are forced to go along with a repeat of the tests otherwise you are wasting time/​effort to see this second vet and you want your pet to get well — weird thing is, after they have repeated the tests (=$$$), all of a sudden, they CAN read the test results and films you brought with you because now they are busy comparing their X-​rays/​sonograms etc to the ones you had done just 3 days ago. Anybody else finding this ?
Yeah, like this is not gouging the customer. It’s extortion and it is dishonest.
I think vets should be legally forced to list their prices. Going to the vet is literally going in blindfolded.
The real problem with the insane cost of vet care is this: owning a pet is turning into a high luxury item. People are not going to take pets on because of the absolutely insane expense.
and if nobody (except billionaires) can afford to own a pet, vets will have no more customers and the shelters will be bursting with unwanted animals.

Took my cat here for a visit because she had a fever, and had to wait for 30 mins to see a vet, not because they were busy but because the vet didn’t feel like seeing animals. Not acceptable.
While waiting for a vet, I overheard several customers coming and going complaining about the same thing, why were the bill so high and all had the same story the vet did a gamut of tests, advised the pets should be hospitalized for observation and tests.
I thought weird, my cat just has a fever, most likely bacterial infection not viral because with viruses cats like all animals vomit or have liquid poo.
When the vet came he advised we do some preliminary tests I agreed, and later came back recommended we hospitalize do more tests etc the gamut… Etc… Shake down…
Run away go somewhere else. I paid $ 600 to this place and took my cat with me because I felt we were about to be ripped off. Like the other customers to the tune of 2000 – 4000 according to the estimated bill.
I went to another vet and confirmed it was a minor bacterial infection.
To top it off my cat picked up fleas after inspecting her after my visit there.
The vets name was Distefano.

DO NOT GO HERE. This place is 100% fraud. I was desperate, and my primary vet was on vacation, so I took my cat here for immediate attention when one day he all of a sudden got extremely sick (found out it was hypoglycemia). They determined he had diabetes and kept him there for a number of nights insisting he needed a series of aggressive and expensive procedures. They put him on 5 medications in addition to insulin and a feeding tube. EVEN THOUGH we spent huge amounts of money letting them examine this cat practically inside and out, they somehow managed to miss, didn’t look for, or neglected to tell us about the fact that he apparently also had developed cancer, pancreatitis, and countless other organ issues.
A few hours with our primary vet when he come home and he found every single issue no problem. Unfortunately at that point it was too late and he passed.
I knew something was up with this place when they released my cat back to my custody, and he still looked half alive. I took him back thinking maybe he was hypoglycemic again, so they did his blood work, and told me he was «actually doing great». They couldn’t give me an explanation for his behavior which clearly stated otherwise… but they could demand $ 300 before I walk out the door.
I thought I could trust these vets but there is a clear hidden agenda. That or they are absolute morons. Regardless of which one, never ever send your pet here unless it’s to get the most expensive band aid you’ve ever heard of at 3am.

We’re here at 5^th ave veterinary emergency hospital (at midnight) with our dog who was vomiting blood. Everyone has been incredibly nice and helpful, and they got us in to see a vet within minutes of arriving, without an appointment. Dr Tan was incredibly patient, caring and helpful and explained everything to us and helped calm us down. Before doing anything he explained why he felt he should do it and outlined the cost of services so there were no surprises. He also helped us to submit a claim to our pet insurance company.
It was a bit expensive, which is the only reason we didn’t give 5 stars, but our dog is always worth it. So happy we found somewhere closeby to take him in the middle of the night.
