I hit up the 23rd Street location of Burgers and Cupcakes over the summer and really enjoyed myself. I had a delicious juicy cheeseburger with fries and topped it all off with a gigantic sugary cupcake. I left very satisfied and vowed to get back for one of their breakfast sandwiches… Burgers and Cupcakes is one of the few places in New York to offer taylor ham(a NJ breakfast tradition).

I passed by a few days ago and Burgers & Cupcakes Chelsea is closed :(I will certainly miss it, but at least I can go to the other location on 9th ave. I won’t forget my first time at this location. I guess they were having either a special promotion or a late night special, but the burgers were only $ 3! Sure they were not on the big side, but $ 3?!

So, I was very excited to dine at Bs and Cs and here is a play by play of how it went down… We got in, sat down, and were promptly handed menus and served drinks. Our waitress came back to ask if we were ready, we asked for another minute, she came back and we ordered. Then we waited for our food. And waited. And waited. I realized that another two tables had received, and eventually eaten, their food, and all I had was my Pepsi. I asked the waitress if she knew when our food might be out. She asked me how I ordered it cooked, to which I responded, «Medium well». She checked on it and said it would be a few minutes. When I saw the other table getting their take out container I flagged down a passing gentleman and asked him if I could speak with a manager. He was one, so I explained the situation. When he asked how long we were waiting, I told him that it had been at least forty five minutes. Truth be told, I think that the kitchen forgot about my order. He was SUPER polite,(as was our server), and came back with a receipt. He told us he bought our meal, that he was incredibly sorry, and asked if there was anything else that he could get for us. When I said no, he came back with their last cupcake and apologized. FINALLY when the burger came out I was fairly satisfied. It was a little dry, my own fault of course b/c I ordered it med well, but there was an E. Coli outbreak, so I was trying to be cautious. All in all, it was fine. However, of all of their cheese offerings,(8 I think) they had only three left. They also only had one kind of cupcake. The reason I even waited and spoke with the manager is because it irritates me to no end when food service establishments fail to treat their customers well, and frankly I felt like my waitress was either lying to me and/or not explaining the situation. The manager really did go above and beyond, so I give it the third star.

In addition to embracing last year’s cupcake fad, Burgers & Cupcakes presents burgers far short of the new neighborhood quality and variety standards set by BRGR . Oh well.

Havent tried the food here, but I am LOVING the crazy cupcake selection! They have my favorite flavor — COFFEE!!! so huge, so fatty, and sooo delicious. and they have these cute little cuppy containers to put the cupcakes in so they dont get smashed when you get them to go. i dont think i would ever make a conscious effort to try to have food here, place is a bit of an eyesore, way too pink, and somewhat sterile looking. i’d highly recommend this place for people who love crazy cupcakes — to go.

I love burgers and I love cupcakes so this was an obvious choice. Plus my friend loves unusual burgers. Any restaurant with a giant steroid enhanced cupcake on the awning and super cold AC is a winner. The food: I had a regular beef burger with mushrooms and swiss, and let me tell you, they don’t skimp on the mushrooms. The burger was cooked to perfection(read: still alive) and the accompanying pickle was perfect. My friend enjoyed her bison burger though they went a little heavy on the grilled onions. The fries were nice and crispy and one basket was enough to share. For dessert we got a strawberry cheesecake cupcake to share, and honestly I could have just eating a jar of the frosting. Mmmmm… frosting. The service: Our waiter was completely crazy, efficient, but completely crazy. He reminded us of this dude we went to school with that once ate a piece of wood in class and his voice was like John Lovitz. He sang along to all the songs they played and was a little bit creepy. Ok, a lot creepy. He looked a little like someone who might hide video equipment in a neighbor’s apartment and watch the tapes alone late at night. Despite John Lovitz, I had a good experience here, and would totally come back and maybe take a few cupcakes to go.

The chili cheese fries were supposed to change my world, as were the cupcakes. Neither did the job. Don’t get me wrong, the fries were tasty, I was impressed at the choice of cheeses and at the amount of cheese on the fries. The chili was only so-so and not liquidy enough, so the fries(of which there were not enough) were not ever-so-slightly soggy, like I like them. I’m sticking with the chili cheese fries at Johnny Rockets. As for the cupcakes, I was amazed at the menu. But for my first try, I chose the plain old vanilla. Um, not for me. It was a corn muffin with lackluster frosting on top, but it was a moist corn muffin. I like frosting that is a little more solid, like Buttercup. So, according to my logic, if they can’t do a vanilla cupcake to my liking, I won’t be trying the other ones. I will go back for the burgers. Such a selection of meats and toppings!!! The setting was not nice at all(please refer to Audrey’s review). Maybe other locations are better.

A.K.A. «Which artery shall we clog today?» …and, considering the taste(average) and the setting(eyesore colors and a distinct smell of cleansing fluid at this location), such health risks are likely not even to be worthwhile. Redeeming star values for an extensive selection of titular options(anywhere from ostrich burgers to raspberry truffle cupcakes).

+4 stars for burgers — 1 star for the cupcakes = 3 stars Burgers are good. There’s a great deal of variety beyond the normal beef, veggie, turkey ones — including salmon, tuna, venison, lamb, and ostrich. Big, juicy, and served with a large, warm, fried bun. There are also countless toppings that you can add on for a buck each — including fried eggs, which seem to be very popular with my friends. Cupcakes are a different story. Though they have interesting flavours like chocolate peanut butter marshmallow, cherry, lemon meringue, and German chocolate, the cake is very dry and the icing is more like whipped cream. I was disappointed by these things. I also wish that they would hire more than one waitress to serve the place. Though she was ultra nice, she had her hands full with the table and neglected to give us our check or soda refills for a long time. I would come here again for burgers and fries, but I might be heading next door to Big Booty Bread Co for dessert.

Decided to go in because it looked cute and appealing. I shouldn’t have judged this book by its cover. I thought it could be fun and cute… however, I was left unimpressed. To wait for one burger took about 25 minutes– and it wasn’t even crowded. Don’t get me wrong, the service was friendly. But that’s not enough when I want a burger that is at least tasty. It wasn’t. I left a majority of my food on the plate. The pickle was the best part. I didn’t indulge in a cupcake however. So perhaps my judgement is unfair. Maybe, maybe I’ll check back in for a cupcake– but I doubt it.

I couldn’t miss the awning saying«Burgers & Cupcakes» from across the street– neither could my friends so we decided to have dinner there. From their selections of burgers, I chose the lamb and rosemary burger with brie cheese cooked medium rare = DELICIOUS. We ordered the double fried french fries which were quite tasty(and an order was big enough for 3 people) and then treated ourselves(or actually I treated) to cupcakes! I had the Strawberry Cheesecake(it was ok, it would’ve been better if it was fresher), my friend had a Lemon Meringue(also would’ve been better if it was fresh), and a classic vanilla w/chocolate icing for my other friend. Aside from the great burgers [lamb and rosemary!], the only thing that stuck out was the whole place has ONE server! That was the one no-no.

Overall I thought this place was pretty good. I liked their wide variety of burgers. I thought it was cooked pretty well, but I did think 1 dollar per topping is pretty stiff. The cupcake was pretty good, I had a chocolate cream filled. I thought it was a little overly sweet. I thought 2.95 was a lot for a cupcake. I would have preferred smaller cupcakes and lower prices. I like being able to try more than one flavor at a time.

I had lunch here one recent Saturday, the turkey burger was fine, the fries were tasty, the cupcake was fine except for the frosting, it was a bit greasy and had a chemical aftertaste, nothing like a good buttercream frosting, nothing like mothers. Prices for the burgers are OK, the service was good, although I am not a fan of staff sitting down beside you to take your order. The whole bill was a bit stiff for a casual Satuarday lunchtime meal. I would go back but not regularly.

Okay, the first thing that must be said is: whoever did the interior decoration for this place needs to have their eyeballs gouged out, King Lear style. PeptoBismol pink is NOT a good combination with turd brown, and the whole vomitous mess is trimmed with a healthy dose of dehydrated-urine orange. Seriously, I will NEVER eat inside this place. Something about that combination just doesn’t make me feel hungry, funnily enough. That said, let’s talk about the actual food. I definitely dig the many different kinds of meat available for your burger(lamb, buffalo and ostrich included), and the toppings are interesting, although at $ 1.00 per topping they can pile up the cost pretty quickly. I ordered an ostrich burger with brie and cranberry sauce. I asked for«medium rare.» What actually came out was a big bloody splodge that was so uncooked that the meat wouldn’t even stay together. I know that different places have different ideas of «medium rare,» but I’m pretty sure DRIPPINGBLOOD doesn’t count. The brie and cranberry did taste good, though, and I think if my burger had been adequately cooked, I would have enjoyed it much more. I didn’t realize until I got home with my food that they’d accidentally included an order of fries, even though I hadn’t paid for them(fries are extra). I was excited about this little mistake until I tasted the fries. They weren’t awful, but they were nothing special. Pretty soggy. But here’s where I forgive all B&C’s transgressions: THECUPCAKE. Holy cow, that’s a good frakking cupcake. Rocky P. complains that it’s too moist, but maybe I’m just the baby bear because for me it was juuuuuust right. Billy’s has nothing on this cupcake!(Okay, Billy’s icing is better, but the cake is what really counts.) As a bonus, it came in an adorable little takeaway-cup so your precious cake doesn’t get smooshed on the way home. And, the cupcake even withstood the test of time, with the leftovers being just as delicious the day after I’d bought it. Overall, I think if you order your burger more cooked than you think you want it, then you’ll probably do well at B&C. Just, for the love of god, get that food TOGO so you don’t have to look at the paint any longer than you have to.

Instead of venturing over to the somewhat sketchy neighborhood behind the big post office at 33rd St., Burgers and Cupcakes has opened a new branch right on 23rd next to Ben & Jerry’s(are you kidding me?). Dropped in last night. Chose the mint chocolate chip chocolate cupcake with the vanilla frosting with chocolate chips. They present all the choices(like 15 varieties) on a tray for you to oggle over– I chose mine because it was a limited edition flavor, so the guy claimed. Me: So how much is this thing? He: $ 2.95 Me:(mockingly) $ 2.95?! He: Hey man, this isn’t a Hostess cupcake that you buy in the supermarket! It’s worth it. Me: I was just joking, but, ok. Verdict: it’s not ok. The cupcake is definitely not dry like Magnolia’s but mine was the opposite extreme– it was too moist. The bottom of the cupcake was gooey and the cupcake cake part basically fell apart after I removed the foldy-wrapper thingy. It tasted pretty good, but was just too oily. I’m willing to give them another shot though.
