Byakkokan Dojo or New York Battodo opened in 2005. We teach Toyama Ryu Battodo and the Sei Tei Kata of US Federation of Battodo. Our dojo has affiliation with the All Japan Toyama Ryu Iaido Renmei as well as the US Federation of Battodo. The dojo practices Kata, Tameshigiri and Gekken.
Kata is the practice of the techniques and how it would be used in situations. Tameshigiri is test cutting. Test cutting is used to help make sure your swing is correct. Gekken is the art of sparring. This will help test the technique in a free form setting. All three is considered needed to help make the idea of swordsmanship more realistic and all supplement each other.
We’re quite open so feel free to come try whether you practice another art or not!

Business Owner
I started off with kendo when I was 12 and started Toyama Ryu Battodo in 2000. I opened this school in 2005. I’m quite happy to say that the school has progressed well and we get along with other schools of swordsmanship!
I’m now currently the President of the US Federation of Battodo, and hold 5th Dan Renshi in Toyama Ryu Battodo in the All Japan Toyama Ryu Iaido Renmei.
