This used to be one of my favorite restaurants when I lived in NYC. I was anxiously awaiting my visit recently and sadly will never return. I ordered the Cuban and for a spot that is supposed to be a Cuban restaurant, it wasn’t what I remembered, nor was it even a decent take on a Cubano sandwich. And the $ 12 margarita — ugh. Terrible Sauza Blue tequila, not even 100% agave, which we asked the waitress to confirm that the tequila was 100% agave. No thanks. Café Habana, I love(d) you, but you brought me down and sent me away forever.

Came here with a friend to try out their famed Cubano. Ever since I had one in Miami, I’ve been craving one of that caliber. It was a hot day so we ordered Ice Café Con Leche which I didn’t care much for. We then both ordered the Cuban Sandwich and I have to admit that it’s definitely on par with those I had in Miami. For $ 8.75, the sandwich was large and came with a small side of fries along with tomato and cucumber slices for contrast. Not much else can be said — the sandwich came out freshly grilled from the plancha, the roasted pork was juicy, and, while I do prefer mustard, the chipotle mayo was very good. We sat at the bar so service was good. Overall, for the price, this place is definitely worth a try and next time, I’ll get their grilled corn as well.

Seriously!!! THEBESTCUBANSANDWICH I’VEEVERHAD the shredded pork was sooooo well seasoned and the marinate juice saturated the toasted bread that already had Chipotle mayo, ham and swiss cheese a sliced pickle combined with djoin mustard WOW. I didn’t really care for my cocktail drink which was very bitter. I believe it was a speciality cocktail that was suppose to have Barcardi rum(which it didn’t) and hibiscus juice. I was disappointed until I took the first bite of my sandwich; then all was right with the universe.

Habana has been around for some time, but my first visit was only recent as it was recommended for their great ambience, particularly the summer, plus for the great(summery) food of course. Couldn’t agree more; I am a big fan of some good Cuban food, and this might be on a new spot for it on the personal favorites list. I definitely want to go back and try more on the menu, which is mostly, if not all, enticing. An update will be needed but for now, I think this place deserves another 4 star review. A must order for starters is the Grilled Corn Mexican style. Now you ask why something simple like corn is a must. I apparently have lived under a rock for some time, but this might be the street corns of all street corns, at least here in NYC. Sweet, savory and a bit spicy, it is all delicious flavors, corn is grilled perfectly. Two corns are part of the minimum per order. Highly recommend this dish at it is one of their best known staple dishes. Entrees sounded amazing, yet I decided to go with the Huevos Rancheros a Caballo — Grilled skirt steak and our famous Huevos Rancheros served with rice and beans. My boyfriend had the same. It was definitely a solid choice on both our ends. Portion size was perfect. The steak was cooked just right(medium rare) and was not chewy. With a runny egg on top(I had mine sunny), it couldn’t be better. A thin layer or two of tortilla lay atop the steak. The rice and beans were great as a side. All in all, this was a hearty dish worth trying. Everything was delicious. I’d like to try their Cuban sandwich on a future visit. The food was amazing, and I did enjoy their ambience as well. It is a small but cute corner restaurant with lots to offer. Add this one to your list for Cuban food if you haven’t made a trip yet. Note there could be a small wait for a table. It is on the smaller side in terms of space. No reservations taken.

There are two great food memories I have while traveling to New York. One of them being: CORN!!! We got the cuban sandwich and a side order of corn. The cuban sandwich was okay… But OMG just get the corn!!! Get like three orders of the corn for a meal you won’t regret it!!! The corn is grilled and buttery and rolled in cojita with i think paprika. It’s just amazing, get the CORN!!! That is all :)

Came to this place with my husband on a Saturday evening to try out the food, curious to see and know why this place gets so many good reviews. It is a really small and tight place. For a table for two, you can only fit a maximum of 3 plates. We ordered the following: 1) Roast Pork — Caribbean style citrus marinated roast pork served with yellow rice and black beans. We kind of regretted ordering this because the meat was dry. 2) Cuban Sandwich —(Voted best in NYC) Citrus marinated roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, chipotle mayonnaise and pickle, on toasted roll with fresh hand cut French fries. Perhaps we are just not fans of sandwiches, we felt it was just«meh», nothing really stands out about it. 3) Tostones. I loved this! The sauce that they came with really goes well with the tostones. I don’t mind having double portion of these! 4) Grilled Corn Mexican Style — Served with mayonnaise, cotija cheese, chili powder and lime. One word, delicious! Don’t mind going back for more of these corns! Overall, due to the really small and tight place, accompanied by the below average service, most probably would only go back for the Mexican grilled corns!

Amazing brunch. Had an iced coffee con leche, the famed corn on a cob and huevos rancheros. Could barely finish it all, and boy, did I want to. I also had a bite of my friend’s chicken sandwich and fries — delicious. I will come back here for lunch or dinner for sure! I also caught them at Governor’s Ball and had a delicious Cuban sandwich. Definitely recommended.

** There is a café, but if you want to get food to go, you gotta go next door! ** Decided to stop by for a midday snack, and we got the elotes(grilled corn with cotija cheese)! They were $ 3.50 a piece I believe, and we split two among 4 people! You order and pay at the register, give them your name, and then they call out your name when your order is ready! The to go area is pretty small, but I mean — it’s for people who want to get their food to go, so makes sense. There are a couple of tables and a bar table inside, and a couple of benches outside. The corn was grilled beautifully! It’s messy to eat because all the cheese starts falling, but other than that, no complaints! You get a couple of wedges to lime to squeeze on top — and make sure you do it! It packs another layer of flavor on top — delicious! Gotta stop by again to try their sandwiches because that’s what everyone else was ordering, but in the mean time, that corn will just have to hold me over.

I’ve always wanted to try Café Habana since it’s reviewed well and has a fun, laid-back vibe. I was expecting to love it, but last night’s dinner really left me feeling«meh» and not wanting to come back. The BF& two friends felt the same way. We started with the tostones and guacamole which were the highlight of the evening. I had the grilled chicken and corn salad(not any better than a grilled chicken salad I could get from an airport). The BF had the roast pork and my two other friends had the fish tacos and shrimp. We also shared a side of sweet plantains(I’ve had much better). Unfortunately, no one was impressed with their dishes. Yes, the atmosphere is cool and laid-back and yes, the prices are on the inexpensive side(especially for that area). However, the food could be A LOT better for what it is. Glad I can say I tried it, but won’t be back.

Glad we went on Memorial Day weekend — was able to immediately get a table when there’s normally a 30 – 60 min wait. We had the grilled corn, pulled pork, and the Cuban sandwich. The grill corn is amazing, but the Cuban sandwich is the sandwich that I will dreaming about tonight. There’s tons of pork & ham, with a thin bread that soaks up the meat juices on the inside, while the still being toasty on the outside. There’s only a hint of chipotle sauce — it wasn’t needed — so you get to really taste the actual ingredients of the sandwich. The pulled pork was good too, just the other two items will make the typical wait worthwhile. The staff was also friendly and helpful with the menu selection. Will love to come back again or get their takeout — if my stomach can’t wait for their typical wait time.

Corn is consistently exquisite. They are doing this right! If this cubano is «the best in NY,» I need to start making/selling Cuban sandwiches. The pickle was thin and flaccid. Drinks are tasty enough, but if you are going to pour house liquor and charge a premium, at least cut fresh lime — not brownish green limes. Great service; very friendly staff.

I had been craving for their Mexican corns and finally had a chance to come back. The corn was super juicy and covered by yummy cheese! I also tried chicken taco this time, it was not bad but I prefer hard taco! The prices are friendly, corn +taco is about $ 8.5!

Loved all the food we got! They came in huge servings so we ended up taking half of our orders home. Value for money was ! The place was packed despite getting in there at 130pm. Servers were really cool and checked up on us each time. Ps. Cuban sandwich was the best we’ve had ever! Make sure to grab one when you get your chance

I was just here a couple days ago and I’m already craving their grilled corn again — I’m seriously obsessed with it! The chili packs a nice heat that leaves a pleasant burn on your lips. It’s not the most graceful food to eat — the cheese is crumbly and gets everywhere, you get corn stuck in your teeth — but it’s so totally worth it. The first time I was here back in December, I ordered the Enchiladas de Mole Poblano. It was my first time having mole and I wasn’t a huge fan of it so this time I ordered the Enchiladas Suizas, which is grilled chicken enchiladas served with tomatillo sauce and crema(I believe). It’s not on the Unilocal menu so either that’s outdated or the dish is a relatively new addition. Either way I enjoyed it much more than the mole enchiladas. The tomatillo sauce was tangy and fresh and balanced well with the grilled chicken. Bf got the pulled pork which was also pretty good though I’m not sure I really tasted the citrus marinade that was mentioned in the menu description. Drinks were kinda meh. I forgot the name of the drink I got(Mexican Shooting something?) but the sourness of the grenadine was really overpowering.

For my 100th review, I have to review the first place I ever tried a Cuban sandwich. The first time I tried this place out was in 2010. I remember sitting at the bar(because it was packed as usual), and ordering a Cuban sandwich recommended to me by one of my friends back in VA. As I was ordering, a local had mentioned that I should definitely order the corn. Trusting his judgement, I did. What a great decision. The food came, and after the first bite of my Cuban sandwich and corn, I fell in love. You always remember your first time, right? Ever since 2010, I’ve made several visits to NYC and always made my way to Café Habana. And every time, it was fantastic! The servers are so nice and friendly, and the food is just so delicious. I’m one of those fellows that doesn’t like pickles, but this sandwich makes me love them. Over the years I’ve tried Cuban sandwiches from numerous restaurants, and nothing comes close to Café Habana. Something about the way they cook and grill their sandwich just makes it so none inimitable. If you ever find yourself in SoHo, make sure to try them out! The restaurant itself is small, and there may be a wait, but it’s definitely worth it.

I’ve always had a great experience dining here but today was by far the worst. Approaching the counter girl, she demanded for my name and slightly rolled her eyes when taking my order. Okay fine she is probably having a bad day. After I was done eating my amazing Cuban sandwich and juicy corn, I got up to throw out my trash– sitting by the back trashcan, the same girl assumed I was going to throw it out there and told me that the actual trashcan is in the front(I knew that, I was making my way to the front) No need for a sassy attitude. Luckily I like the food here but someone needs to get their shit together and stop snapping at customers. Maybe the fact that they know their food is great and everyone will come back regardless of service… but still. Normally I wouldn’t rant and nit pick on things like this but I was annoyed. To be specific, the girl was heavy with blonde hair, crazy red lipstick and was working this Monday night the 21st at 6pm. K I’m done.

The CORN! Must try! This place is at the corner of the street and I missed it the first time. I did not see any store signs or whatever, haha. The restaurant is super small inside(so is the bathroom). However, their food are amazing :) Especially the CORN! An order comes with two, but it was so good. I wanted to get another order. When my friend and I were first seated, the waiter told us the kitchen closed 4:30pm, but she did not rush us to order. She gave us time to look at the menu and explained to us which dish is the most popular and what certain dish consisted of. Great customer service! I will definitely come back for more corns and try other dishes when I am in the area :)

So disappointed by Café Habana — especially given the stellar reviews and the recommendations I got to try this place out. We got the baja style fish tacos($ 13.45) with salad(+$ 1.95) and the cuban sandwich($ 11.45). Both were subpar. The fish tacos were not original or innovative. It’s something I would’ve been able to make at home given a fryer. Plus the fish was fishy. The cuban sandwich wasn’t even as good as the one I’ve had at our neighborhood Sophia’s Cuban Cuisine? I don’t get it. Maybe Café Habana had an off day, but not sure I want to go back and try it again…

WOW Location: Pricen street is a foodie’s heaven. Not only Prince Stree pizza located here, Café Habana is also the hidden gem that you cannot miss. The store has both to-go area and dining area. I waited and waited and found out that it would be impossible for me to sit in a such crowded crowd by myself so I turned right away to the to-go shop, which also offer few spots to sit in and dine in. The menu posted on the paper and on the wall. I soon found out that CUBAN sandwich is marked as «Voted best in NYC» so I soon made up my mind what to order. Food: I think most people order Cuban sandwich with grilled mexican corn. I cannot finish those two all by myself. Too be honest, I felt full when I finished half of my sandwich. But the sandwich is so good that I pushed myself to finish it after all. Let’s just put this way: the cuban sandwich has a crispy bun with seasoned well porks and some fabulous combo with pickle made it one of the greatest sandwich I have ever wanted to try another time. I found the middle part, which is the meat part is especially remarkable. Seasoned, moistured, and delicious. Service: not much of a service and the place is tiny. Be prepared to finish your sandwich while standing. Price: 9.50 for a good and full sandwich. WOW, DEAL! Overall: A must-go place the tI will come back for their corns.

I really regret not being able to eat more here as I was still too full from brunch. I only had the corn and a cup of Mexican hot chocolate but it was so delicious and I’ve been craving it almost every day since. My friend and I came around 3:00pm, and were able to grab a seat right away. The staff were all really friendly and the food came out pretty quickly. They even give you wet naps for the corn. I’ll definitely try to come back the next time I’m in town, since the reviews on the other menu items seem to be great as well. –Side note: the restroom is SUPER cramped; your face will be centimeters from the door while you’re on the toilet lol. Actually, seating is pretty intimate while you’re dining as well — super close to neighboring tables. But when the food is good, who cares?

I heard about Café Habana from one of my friends who was craving Mexican corn. So after work on Friday our group of 4 decided to check this place out. They definitely didn’t disappoint! It’s a quaint restaurant with the Cuban feel. When you first walk in, the hostess asks you if you just want the Mexican corn at the bar or if you’re actually sitting down to eat, probably because the corn is so poppin’ that it needs its own category. My friends and I decided to sit at a booth. An order of Mexican corn comes with 2 huge pieces just for $ 7! The cojita cheese they put on the corn is absolutely amazing. It’s filled with so much flavor and it fills you up too! Our waitress delivered amazing service as well. Since we went during early fall, it was still a little warm out and there was this huge bee in the restaurant and landed on my corn. Our waitress saw this happen and she offered to give me another corn for free, which was really nice of her. I can imagine this place getting very crowded at nighttime, so try to go in the afternoon before people start getting out of work! If you’re looking for authentic Mexican corn in NYC, this is the place to go.

Big fan of Cubanos so I had to make my way to Habana. Ordered a Mojito and the corn appetizer to start. Both were delicious. I ordered the cubano and my girlfriend ordered a shrimp dish. The cubano was the best I ever had, and I stole some of the sauce from her shrimp dish for my rice because it was so good. Will be back

Love the look and feel of this place. Does a great job of making you feel like you are the heart of Little Havana in Miami. Keep in mind that they do not take reservations and they will only seat you when the whole party has arrived. I have really enjoyed the appetizers and sides(especially the Mexican Corn, which is an absolute must, and the sweet plantains). My entrees haven’t blown me away. Have been twice and I ordered the grilled shrimp with garlic sauce, but it was extremely saucy. Rice and beans that came with it held me over and tasted great. I also ordered the chicken with mole sauce and it came heavy on the mole. The drinks are great. Always go for a classic Margherita or their spin on the moscow mule.

This is the spot I keep going back to no matter how many times I’ve been here! I absolutely love their corn! I love the sour cream and spice on top of it. Their spicy sauce makes it even more mouthwatering! I can eat 10 of those without getting sick of it.(Jk maybe 2) I love their Cuban sandwich, supposedly known to be NYC best sandwich. The first time I had it, the beef was really soft and the sandwich was tasty but the second time I got it it wasn’t as good. I usually just order the same things instead of trying new things because once I find something I really like, I will order it every time. But since the Cuban sandwich the second time wasn’t as good, I’d try other stuff next time. This place is always busy; there’s always a line and it’s really small. The bathroom is hard to get to since it’s all the way in the back and you hardly have any room to walk. But the food definitely makes up for it.

mmmmm que rico! I love Café Habana. I’ve been here a few times and this place always satisfies my cravings. The wait was about 20 minutes. Not bad at all considering that it’s busy almost 99% of the time. Great place for brunch, lunch or dinner. Pretty large menu with lots of options to choose from. I ordered the chicken quesadilla with beans and rice. I highly recommend the chicken quesadilla if you’re unsure on what to order. My boyfriend ordered the Cuban sandwich. We also ordered the soup of the day(onion soup) and an order of the grilled corn. OMG the grilled corn is so messy but soooooo good and sooooo worth it. It’s a little pricey but not too bad! Service is OK, our server didn’t really check in on us after we received our food. We had to ask another server for a refill on our drinks and for more salsa. –1 star for the service we received.

This place is hyped up but on the low, if youre into seeking culturally yummy food. This place is great. Latin food to quench your crave! The grilled corn was very well heated and seasoned. The extra fresh lime they add on to squeeze for more intense flavor really gives corn a new definition! May I even say this is truly Mexicorn! Haha, I’d definitely recommend this spot for a good bite before heading out to shop or even drop by for a pleasant dinner after a long day of walking and shopping! Either way, this place is pretty great! It is quite expensive though, but its in the city at soho! Tourist price for tourists! GOOOOOOAAAAAL

Café Habana isn’t just is my favorite Cuban place, but most likely my favorite restaurant in all of downtown SoHo… no question. It will be a bit difficult to navigate your way here coming out of the subways, but it is totally worth it once you get here. Seating can be a bit tricky, so if you come after the lunch rush, you should be fine. I cannot get enough of their Cuban sandwich, which is a «must have» when you get here. Everything about the bread, meat, and cheese is simply amazing. And please, order their grilled corn. It’s a specialty item for a reason! Everything here is reasonably priced for the amount of food they serve you. Do not overindulge, but enjoy.

The Cuban sandwich is so damn good. Honestly it doesn’t look very appealing in the pictures because the color of the filling is very bland. But the filling is so juicy, there was juice oozing out of my sandwich and the bread was so toasty and crisp without being too dry! The fries that came with it was really good too, piping hot and crispy without being oily. Now to the corn… I had really high hopes for it, since seeing everyone rave about it on Unilocal and all the pictures. But I don’t think I’ll order it again. $ 7.95 for 2 and it was luke warm, it had an unique taste, but not enough for me to crave for it or order it again for that price. Didn’t get a chance to try the tacos, but will definitely come back soon to try and have more Cuban sandwich!

Café Habana is my NY staple. It’s in a great neighborhood, the people are good looking, service is good, food is awesome and not expensive at all. My go-to dishes are always a struggle between the skirt steak, Cuban sandwich and the garlic shrimp… OMGSOGOOD. You’ve got to sop up all of the garlic sauce with the rice and bean. Mmmmmm. A MUST for app is the Mexican corn– you won’t regret it. There’s no reso allowed and the wait can get long. Get there before 7 and you’ll be ok. They only seat you once everyone’s there as the place is pretty small and packed in.

I can’t write enough good things about this little place and its food. The staff might not feel very warm as they are very busy but this place is a quick eat and go place. I have been here for breakfast and dinner and the good is excellent. The chile corn with cheese is a table favorite and a crowd pleaser. Al the vegetarian sandiwches are excellent, they probably used the best quality ingredients which just prepared simply make the food taste great.

Would have given it 5 stars but my waitress wasn’t that good. I’ve visited Habana Outpost many times so I decided to check out Café Habana as I work nearby. We got in just before the lunch crowd so we didn’t have to wait for a table. I ordered the fish tacos and my friend ordered the quesadillas. His meal came with a green salsa, mine with a black salsa. I didn’t care for it too much so I asked for green. I had to ask for it twice as the waitress forgot to submit the order to the kitchen. The food was delicious and the portions were great for the price however I was charged $ 1.95 for a tiny cup of salsa. I probably wouldn’t have ordered it, if I had been informed of the cost. I feel like my waitress should have mentioned it. It’s not that it’s a lot of money but for salsa, I could do without. I mentioned this to the server and she said she couldn’t take it off. I didn’t press the issue and ask for a manager but I’ll be sure not to sit in her section when I visit again.

The infamous grilled CORNNNN! I was told that Café Habana is one of New York’s staples, so I was eager to try this spot… especially since the corn here is hyped up. This cozy restaurant, located on a corner street in SOHO, makes you feel like you’re in family kitchen someplace in Mexico. The restaurant has a small bar in front(you can drink some beers while you wait for your table) and about 7 – 8 tables. The waitresses here are so friendly and happy despite the tight space that they’re having to run around. I think was more irritated with this, haha. GRILLEDCORN(ELOTE) — This really was very tasty, and I enjoyed the generous amount of cotija cheese that covered the corn. Although there was a lot of cheese on the corn, it was missing some salt – it would have been nice if the corn had more of a salty/creamy flavor. A little more spice added to the corn was nice, so don’t forget to ask for hot sauce! CUBANSANDWICH — The Cuban sandwich here was probably the best cubano I’ve ever had! The bread was nice and toasted on the outside, and soft on the inside. The citrus marinated roast pork was cooked to perfection, and the meat and flavors melted in my mouth. The saltiness in the ham matched perfectly with the roast pork, and the melted swiss cheese and chipotle mayo made the perfect sauce. I loved the crunchiness of the pickles, but I would recommend ordering extra. This is also served with a side of fries. SOPESITOS — We decided to try something new, and this sampler of corn cakes, topped with different salsas, cheese, beans, and onions sounded quite tasty. The dish looked pretty, but the corn cakes were a bit thick and dry– I felt like I needed to dip these in some sauce. The ratio of salsa to corn cake made it hard to even taste the different salsas due to the dense corn cake. I probably wouldn’t order this one again. FRIEDPLANTAINS — These were good, but there wasn’t anything special about them. They were good plantain, no complaints. Overall, the food and service here were great, and I’d definitely come back here the next time I’m in the big apple.

I haven’t been to Café Habana in over 8 years so I was excited to find that they had a table for two on Halloween night! The restaurant itself is quite small and their tables for two are even smaller! It was a challenge to fit all the plates of food but we somehow got it all to fit on the table and then in our bellies. The service was super nice and friendly. Very attentive! Appetizers: We had to start off with the infamous grilled Mexican corn. The cotija cheese was plentiful and had a great kick from the chili powder. The corn was nicely grilled, not overly cooked. We also got the tostones to share which came with a garlic sauce. I love tostones, smushed fried plantains are so yummy to me. Great crunchy texture on the outside, a perfect vehicle for carrying sauces and complementing the overall taste as the tostones don’t have an overpowering taste within itself. Entrees: We then moved on to the Steak enchilada and the Cuban Sandwich. The steak enchilada was just okay I will have to admit. It was wrapped with corn tortilla and as big of a fan I am for corn tortillas, this was mildly disappointing as the tortilla was super soggy. There were plenty of steak, avocado, rice and beans though. Just the overall texture of the tortilla was mushy. Although the enchilada was underwhelming, the Cuban sandwich was amazing! Plenty of meat to it, the bread was perfectly grilled and crunchy/chewy/soft. All these textures combined! The thin slice of the pickle further added to the great texture of the sandwich. As stuffed as I was, I had to finish the whole sandwich. Can’t waste such perfection! Overall, great food and chill atmosphere!

We arrived around 8:30pm. We were told there was about a half hour wait, but I believe we got seated at 8:40ish. Not bad at all! Again, small and crowded NY restaurant. I got bumped into by strangers several times. Very dimly lit with loud music. But who cares?! The food was tasty! I’m a VERY picky eater, but I was feeling adventurous. I went out on a limb and suggested Café Habana. I was wondering why and how this was put on my list of restaurants, then I realized it was featured in that Justin Timberlake/Mila Kunis movie called, «Friends With Benefits.» Anyway, back to my review. I like Mexican food(some), so I thought, «Hey, how bad can Cuban food be?» I ordered the Pollo Mirador– sauteed chicken breast with spicy spinach, rice, and roasted garlic sauce. I love me some garlic. You can probably imagine how in love I was with this dish when it arrived and there were sooo many pieces of garlic. My boyfriend got enchiladas estilo norteno, which is just pretty much steak enchiladas. It was my first time trying enchiladas, and let me say— definitely not a bad experience at all! It was good! I’ve been missing out on yummy enchiladas all this time! We didn’t order the mexican corn or the plantains like I had hoped, but it’s okay because we were completely stuffed after eating. Our waitress was adorable and sweet.

I haven’t had a lot of Cuban food, but this is by far the best Cuban food I’ve ever had! Café Habana is a cute little hole in the wall near Soho. It’s kind of small so seating is limited, but when we came on a Tuesday night around 6:30p.m. we were seated immediately. The table was really small and felt kind of cramped, but it didn’t bother us that much since the food was sooo good! Our waiter was super nice and provided excellent service. She was full of energy and made the experience eating here that much better. Guava Limeade– it was very refreshing and wasn’t overly sweet, which is why I really liked it. Grilled Corn(Elote) — OMG, the grilled corn here is the BOMB!!! Don’t leave without getting it. They are very generous with their portions. It came with 2 huge pieces of corn and was seasoned to perfection. Roast Pork– the pork is super tender and packed with lots of flavor. It was served with rice and beans, which were also really good. I can’t wait to go back and order this dish again! Plantains– I also ordered a side of plantains and they were the perfect accompaniment to my meal. It added the perfect amount of subtle sweetness to my meal.

I reaaalllly wanted to be impressed. I saw so many reviews and am still on the search for good Mexican food in New York. This location is small(but what place in SoHo isn’t.) We were put at a small table in the middle of the restaurant and all the waitresses kept bumping me. It wasn’t their fault as much as it was the size of the restaurant. It has a diner like vibe to it. My friend and I split the corn and each got a plate of enchiladas. The corn should have been more impressive. It was cooked well but missing one element of flavor that I couldn’t put my finger on. The enchiladas were typical. The chicken was cubed instead of pulled but that could have been a preference thing on my part. The flavor overall didn’t feel authentic to me. The food overall was of decent quality but I wasn’t even close to being blown away. The service was okay. My water was empty for a good amount of our time there — not ideal when you’re in a cramped, heated restaurant. There are other places in SoHo to eat, more authentic places uptown.

My bestie and I decided to take advantage of $ 15 credit courtesy of Tabbedout. It was our first attempt to use the app(and assuming same went for our server) — it took a bit of trial and error(best style of learning) — but as a team, we figured it out! We came for an early dinner and were able to have the whole back room to ourselves — nevertheless we still had to place our condiments and glasses of water to adjacent tables — just to have space for our entrees! Honestly, we couldn’t imagine coming during peak hours. We stuck to what they are famous for –Mexican corns and Cubano with fries. I am envious of those who were able to enjoy those corns when they were less than $ 2! Beautifully charred, sweet corns smothered in generous slabs of mayo, cheese, and chili powder. You kno what I will be grilling this weekend! I’d actually never eaten a Cubano before so I have nothing to compare Café Habana’s to. The pulled pork was juicy but a little too fatty. Ham is ham — never crazy about processed meat. The bread was toasty for most the most part but got a bit soggy after soaking the meat juice. With a little dap of hot sauce, the sandwich was fine. Good but nothing to write home about. We shared their coconut flan to finish. $ 5 was not a bad deal! However it was a little too sweet for our taste. I would recommend finishing off with more corns. Overall, decent foods and service. However certainly not worth waiting in line for.

SUPER !!!

That’s all. The Cubans are not real Cubans, by the way. They’re sandwiches. But the grilled corn on the cob, shrimp tacos, and drinks certainly make up for it– and Cubans are not easily imitated.
