Cafe Jolie

At 11:40, I went into this restaurant and it was nearly empty. I ordered a chocolate, fruity crêpe. Midway through it looked like half a bottle of viagra and Ritalin on saint patty’s day; thankfully, it was just as nice to experience. There was no rude chef as described and the service was speedy.

My friend and I noticed this place last year while scooting down the street. It wasn’t my first selection, but since I was craving crepes we gave it a go.
As soon as I walked in to order, the lady standing behind the counter… was very rude. Her first words to me was «what do you want?»
Seriously? Excuse me? No «hello» …just straight «what do you want?» in an annoying tone.

Not a fan and do not recommend if you’re picky about your crepes. The apples were sliced so large, I could barely handle it in each bite. Also, one side of my sweet crêpe was crunchy while the other side was soft. They were served on paper plates so I could barely even cut them with the plastic fork and knife. Bland flavor and I’m pretty sure one of the servers is really sick so I didn’t feel comfortable having her around my food.

Unfriendly, unprofessional service. Underwhelming crepes. Would not recommend.
After deciding to stop by on a Thursday night for a late evening snack, my friend and I sat down to a seemingly promising experience — we were quite excited to see their extensive menu of savory and sweet crepes. Armed with a Groupon, we had enough for any crêpe and one drink each — which, I’ll admit, is quite the deal for what it’s worth. But it all went downhill from here.
The woman soloing her shift took our orders with the most disinterest I’ve ever seen. Halfway through our meal, we saw her walk out and smoke a cigarette, leaving the place without any service for a good 5 minutes.
The way the establishment is laid out, the crêpe makers are positioned at the very front of the store, near the door and windows looking out into the streets. The ventilation system, however, is located in the back, connected to the back room. This becomes problematic once the crêpe maker is fired up, causing the whole establishment to fill up with smoke. The entirety of our meal was eaten in the haze of burnt crêpe smoke.
The crepes themselves were underwhelming at best. I order the crêpe with prosciutto, mushrooms and Brie cheese. To my disappointment, the crêpe’s filling to crêpe ratio was off — two slices of thickly-​sliced prosciutto, which resembled more like country breakfast ham than anything, and less than generous servings of mushrooms and cheese.
Overall, terrible experience. Even with a Groupon, we will not be returning.

Stopped here on a blistering cold day for some very delicious crepes and was not disappointed. They WERE delicious!
I suppose the four stars is because, for as big as this store is, there wasn’t much else I wanted in here. They had smoothies (no thank you, not in –10 weather) and some pastries, but they didn’t look nearly as good as the crepes.
So, ordered the butter and brown sugar and go to watch the very interesting process as it was happening; the crêpe-​making one, and loved it. It was cool to see.
Got my piping hot crêpe that looked as those minimal amounts of butter and sugar had been used, but in fact, was bursting with flavor. A subtle flavor, but lots of it nonetheless!
I highly recommend this place for crepes, they were some of the best I’ve tasted.

A simple, no frills crêpe, shake, place… with surprise — a juice bar!
From the outside, it definitely looks like it could be a tourist trap. I was craving a green juice though, so after seeing it on their menu, I had to stop in. The juices were surprisingly fresh and tasty, though pretty pricey for the place (~Juice Generation prices, maybe a bit more).
No bathroom, but they do have free WiFi if you ask!

Too much crêpe to filling ratio, I might as well have gone to a breakfast place and gotten a waffles or pancakes.

I come here intermittently for the decadent crêpe. I love that they cook up a huge crêpe with a good amount of filling. It could definitely pass as a small albeit sinful meal if you’re ordering for one, or a hearty dessert. The atmosphere is pretty chill and you can usually find a seat.
The quality does vary — I’ve had some mind-​blowingly divine crepes and some rather meh doughy crepes. All in all reasonably solid joint in the Hell’s Kitchen area.

This Unilocal starts where I left off on the previous one with One Thai Chef. (NOTE: read that one first, to appreciate this one)
After a very mediocre dinner around the corner at a Thai place. We opted to have dessert elsewhere. We noticed this place on our way to dinner and I took a mental snapshot.
As we entered, around 10 pm on a weeknight. Place was empty, which is what I like because whenever the place is empty, you automatically become the most important customer. The place is filled with large nutella jars seemingly to the cieling. I was impressed.
We made our own crêpe,: nutella with strawberries and bananas … the guy making the crêpe was cool and even added extremely nutella, at my request.
It was very filling and more than big enough for two ppl. I didnt try any of the other stuff like the ice cream or shakes. But a good crêpe is hard to find in my opinion, so thank you for making my mediocre dinner experience better w a decadent crêpe. Dessert will always save a meal thats «why you need to save space for dessert.»

Worst experience ever.
1) the place looks like a garbage dump
2) there was someone outside begging us to come in (tourist trap!)
3) I ordered a caramel and cheese crêpe that took 15 minutes to make
ARE YOU SERIOUS?
4) it was straight cheese, just a little smuckers poop caramel you find in a grocery store
5) go to register and get charged almost $ 10 for this atrocity
6) he didn’t even know what I ordered, and after explaining it was a caramel/​cheese he still looked dumbfounded
7) we got our food about 5 minutes before someone who had been waiting for a solid 20 minutes got hers!
Creepy music/​terrible service/​horrific prices
If this was a stock, I would short it with every penny I had. This place will go out of business.

Dessert shops in Hell’s Kitchen are easy to find especially this shop on the pedestrian infested walkway on 9^th Avenue. Café Jolie (not too sure if it’s named after the owner) know for its crêpe offers a wide range of desserts including ice cream milk shakes, fruit smoothies, various pastries, and coffee.
We ordered the Butter Crêpe, Cookies and Cream shake, and a small coffee.
The butter crêpe was 4 layers thick sprinkled with powdered sugar and came with a spray of whip cream on the side. Delicious! We decadently demolished the crêpe in small bites. The Cookies and Cream shake was blended with what I believe was artificial flavor of cookies, fake cream, and skim milk. It had the flavor of cookies and cream, but the density of water. Using 2% or whole milk would have enriched the shake to an actual milk shake. The coffee was lukewarm and not all too fresh.
Café Jolie is a jolly wonderland for crepes. Avoid the rest.

I came here one night after eating dinner with my friend because I was craving some ice cream. Unilocal initially led me to Schmackary’s, but when I got there, there was no ice cream in sight. Disappointed but not disheartened, we continued to search for some place that sold ice cream. Luckily for us, Café Jolie was right around the corner.
Café Jolie is a small café that apparently serves coffee, soft serve ice cream, and crepes. Being in the mood for ice cream, I ordered small vanilla soft serve and got crushed oreo cookies on top. When the server/​cashier put the oreos on my soft serve, she just rolled it in the cookies — I’m not sure if that’s how you’re supposed to do it or if its sanitary or not. Seeing her do that made me feel some way about Café Jolie, but at the time, I didn’t care because I had my ice cream.
My friend and I sat down and ate our soft serve. Much to my disdain, my vanilla soft serve didn’t taste like … anything. There was no distinctive vanilla soft serve taste, no subtle hint of sweetness, no anything. To say it was flavorless would be an understatement — there are a lot of flavorless things in this world, but I don’t know if this would be one of them. This soft serve was completely devoid of flavor. I can’t even describe what eating this was like, but I know I’m not a fan.
I give this place two stars instead of one because I want to give it the benefit of the doubt. Also, they give you a generous amount of tasteless soft serve.

I had the pleasure of ordering a chocolate shake from the rudest employee I have yet to meet at an establishment that is meant to bring joy into lives by offering frozen treats and delicious crepes. Not only was the service bad, but I watched as she turned the chocolate ice cream into pure chocolate milk. As I continued to marvel in her lack of effort, she continued to be rude by answering her cell phone as she helped customers. Usually I don’t care and chalk it up to having a bad day, but she just went to far in her efforts to be rude.
I do not recommend coming to café Jolie for ice cream or the service. However, my friend ordered a crêpe and she was enamored with her decision. So the crêpe redeemed this place a bit so two stars it is.
I probably won’t ever come back here… bye Café Jolie… you did not make me jolie at all.

The woman who «helped» me had the worst manners of all time. I came in 45 minutes before closing, and she could not have been less pleased to serve customers (I get it, you want to go home, but close up shop early if you’re going to give me a death stare when I walk in). My voice is not soft, so I’m thinking she was slightly hard of hearing, because she said «what?» approximately 10 times in the 3 or 4 minutes I spent interacting with her (maybe I’m nitpicking, but saying «what» instead of «excuse me» is pretty rude and unprofessional). It appeared that she used the same gloves to handle both food and money. Last, but certainly not least, she had her hair down while serving food… I don’t want your hair getting into my order, lady, put your hair in a ponytail.
I know it’s NYC, and I shouldn’t necessarily expect people in the service industry to have Southern belle-​level manners or speaking skills, but holy f, I’ve never experienced more apathetic customer service.

I got to try the Serendipity Crêpe (sweet) and the Caramba Crêpe (Savory). Both were amazing!
For an average of under $ 10 a crêpe, the serving sizing were definitely very generous. So if you want to bring a friend or two to come along and try an assortment of crêpes, Do it!
What I liked the most is definitely the environment. It’s a very quaint little place, which you wouldn’t even know there was a crêpe shop if you didn’t look. I also liked how you can watch the crêpes being made! It’s always a thrill just to watch people make your food.
All in all, the service is very good. The lady who worked behind the counter was definitely very helpful and accommodating to your needs!

A great selection of sweet and savory crepes, made right in front of you. You have your standards — butter and lemon juice — and some exotic offerings — fig spread, bleu cheese and prosciutto.
The place is a little cramped, so don’t plan for a romantic date or intimate conversation. This is a great place to go when you need food in your stomach after a few drinks. Since they stay open pretty late, it seems serving drunks is their ideal purpose.

Came here today for dessert. I LOVE the atmosphere. The music is fabulous (oldies) and there is no crazy hustle-​and-​bustle that you would expect in midtown.
I was told that the hot chocolate was pretty good and very «cocoa-​y», whatever that means. I had the nutella crêpe and I enjoyed the chocolate fix that it granted. It wasn’t anything too crazy but I wasn’t expecting anything crazy, so it was just fine.
If I lived in this neighborhood I would definitely want to get a hot drink and do some work here, and/​or get my morning coffee here. Calm… in a neighborhood that is anything but.

Honestly, the worst crêpe I have ever had. It was nutella and strawberry crêpe. How can you possibly screw it up, right? WRONG. Nasty.
My husband had the veggie crêpe and it was completely tasteless and awful. Needless to say, we did not even finish our crepes.
I have no idea how this place is even still in business. Must be the location. After all, you don’t need returning customers, if you are in a tourist packed area.

We went into this café out of desperation. We were going to go to our usual haunt Schmackary’s but their lack of air conditioning on one of the hottest days of the year made it a no go.
This café had a/​c and Nutella in the display case. We figured, lets give it a try. We had soft serve vanilla and chocolate ice cream with Oreo pieces. It was very creamy and refreshing on this 100 degree day. The a/​c was also very nice!

Cute café/​creperie place. We were on a quest to find an ice cream place near port authority and stumbled upon Jolie.
This place has 28 choices for crepes!
Had their large strawberry sundae. Strawberry syrup overload! I would’ve preferred actual strawberry ice cream vs. vanilla ice cream doused with syrup but presention wise, the sundae was so cute!
Ideal for 2 people for a large sundae. Had an ice cream coma after finishing that cup myself *puff*
