Specialties

«Caffe Vivaldi could be so many things at once: small, intimate, loud, a bar, a restaurant, a café, a place where artists collaborate, converge and showcase their not just one or two talents. Caffe Vivaldi is a spectrum of things. «

Experience Village as it used to be in the days of Dylan, Coltrane, Poe & co, captured in the movies & documentaries shot at Vivaldi.

We offer the best of what the Village is famous for:

Great Food — our suppliers are the legendary Village master food purveyors. Fresh pasta from Raffetto’s on Houston St. (over 100 yrs in business); cheese from Joe’s Dairy on Sullivan St. (making fresh mozzarella for over 70 yrs); meat from Ottomanellis (60 yrs on Bleecker St); sea food from Lobster Place, on Bleecker St. and Chelsea Food Market.

Great Drinks: From Irish coffee to Single malts and cocktails — full bar.

Great Live Music: A live room with a natural wood paneled interior built for great sound for the best talent performing here daily.

History

Established in 1983.

Caffe Vivaldi exudes an old-world European languor-a small irony, since it was opened in the ‘80s by an industrious émigré from Pakistan. A weathered bench runs along one wall; the wall opposite, cluttered with somber black-and-white portraits of classical composers, is recognizable from films by Al Pacino and Woody Allen. For the past decade or so, the café has featured live music nightly: jazz, classical or folk, depending on the night» –JazzTimes (Jan-Feb’05)

When Joseph Brodsky won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1987, he gave some of the interviews to the world press, sitting down at Vivaldi and enjoying his favorite drink. When two top Hollywood producers /actors /directors /wanted to make movies featuring the timeless quality of Greenwich Village they came to Vivaldi.(Woody Allen, Al Pacino).

To find an answer to why young musicians, artists, writers, poets from all over the world coverage on Greenwich Village, spend an evening at Caffe Vivaldi.
