My work colleagues heard about this cart in a blast email so we ventured to 56th and 7th to find one of the nicest, best prepared, and skillful cart chefs you will find in Manhattan. And his burgers are absolutely top shelf; better than you might find in some local restaurants. Add fries cooked in olive oil and the combo is $ 7, a tremendous bargain. I am planning on trying the chicken and the lamb. See you there.

Great little food cart. I read about the place on Thrillist. I got the burger. Really solid burger cooked to order on his flattop. The chicken dish look great. Place is pretty quick and affordable. Worth the subway ride I took just to go during lunch.

Affordable and tasty, what’s there not to like? I liked the lamb more than the chicken, something echoed by my wife as well. But you won’t go wrong with either, better yet get both!

What would we do without Carnegie John’s? The best FOODCART in the neighborhood. When you’re hungry for a hot meal that’s inexpensive and delicious, check out this food cart. I usually get the Chicken Platter for $ 7. Tasty grilled chicken over yellow rice, salad with a tangy Vinagrete dressing, and a great yogurt sauce. You can’t beat it! Sometimes I order it just over salad for a lower carb lunch! I’ve also had a hamburger which is better than any burger you can find. For a smaller meal, try a kabob, grilled right in front of you, with or without pita bread. He’ll add sautéed onions and peppers to any order if you ask and he couldn’t be any nicer. People know him by name! He’s been here for years and those of us who work in the neighborhood are grateful to have him on our corner! If you see a line, don’t fret, it moves very fast and it will be worth it!

was going to wait til my second trip before posting a review but the food was so fresh and delicious that I had to post right away. not sure if theyre there every day as I went once a couple weeks ago and couldn’t find them. got the grilled chicken platter($ 7), comes with rice, and lettuce(and a couple slices of tomato) covered in a little yogurt sauce. solid portion size, great taste, fresh ingredients. a step above most other food carts in the area. going back soon for their cheeseburger deluxe combo(with fries for $ 7) and will update this if anything goes wrong but I’m sure it will be great.

Hamburger, hot dog, fries and a water for $ 9.50. In Manhattan? Yes, really. And the burger and dog were as tasty(or better, burger at least) as any restaurant.

If your looking for solid, basic, good affordable take away grub then this will do it! Some of the best street food ive tasted! Right outside Carnegie Hall. Chicken & rice is only $ 7 bucks. Then take it for a picnic in Central Park just blocks away! It was delicious!

This is probably the only street cart I will ever eat from. The food is always fresh and clean tasting. I always get the chicken with rice that comes with the yogurt sauce. It’s just so delicious and filling. Too bad I don’t work around the area anymore. =(

Come here almost every single day and wish I could go on weekends! Healthy and clean food and always fresh, doesn’t sit around like these regular halal carts. Carnegie John definitely has a Greek flare to it, amazing white/tzatziki sauce. I strongly recommend the rib eye and chicken platter! Enjoy!

So much pastrami my pores are leaking meat, but that’s how I like it. Long wait to get in for lunch but definitely worth it.

This is the best food cart in NYC. It one of the few carts that offers meats cooked over quality charcoal fire. I highly recommend the lamb, John prepares the fresh american baby lamb leg from the night before, it cuts off the fat and marinates it in lemon and other spices, he cooks it how you like it, one small batch at a time, its tender and delicious, many other places overcook their foods and let them dry-out, not John.

Wow! Absolutely amazing food and very reasonably priced. This is some of the best Greek food I’ve had, and that’s saying a lot considering I live in Astoria(Greek food capital). Just started working nearby. I usually bring my own lunch to work, but now I know where I’m going almost every time I don’t. Eat here you won’t regret it. I got the combo # 1. Chicken and lamb were both perfectly cooked and seasoned. Not dry, very flavorful.

Surprisingly, this is a very healthy options for street cart. The food is grilled to order and the sauce is made of yogurt only so looking for quick & healthy cheap eats, this is the right answer.

First time but won’t be my last time! I work around this area now and I needed to know where to get my grub on, this is by far one of the best meals I’ve had from a food cart. It would have been perfect had it not been for the dressing on my salad… I don’t mind a little, but there was way so much so that I could taste it on my rice, which I didn’t like. Will go again and ask for no dressing!

One of the best chicken and rice carts in the city by far. Couple of things to remember: 1. Your meat is grilled fresh upon ordering so give about 10 minutes to get your order if the line is short; it can be up to 20 minutes when they’re very busy. 2. The white sauce is not heavy mayo. I’m not 100% sure what it is, but heard yogurt. It is similar in consistency and taste to tzatziki sauce. Northeast corner of 56th and 7th Avenue, the line can be a bit awkward. Make sure you’re in the right line — after people order, they congregate around the cart and they could possibly skip your turn. The meat is cooked on the grill. It’s not boiled chicken warmed and chopped up on the grill like the Halal Guys on 53rd. It’s actually chunks of chicken that he grills over charcoal and cuts up into chunks on his grill. If you order the chicken over rice platter, it costs $ 6.50 — more than the other guys slightly, but well worth the extra cost. It comes with rice and a salad that they drizzle with Italian dressing. Your choice of meat is put over the rice, and the awesome white sauce. The best part — you don’t feel like crap after. I didn’t like the lamb — they use lamb chunks, not the gyro meat — so I always go for the chicken over rice platter. It always satisfies.

Oh Carnegie John’s, I find myself braving cold winds and dodging traffic for your tasty platters more times than I want to admit… especially since I will never eat Halal Guys meat ever again! Located on the NE corner of 56th and 7th Avenue, this place can get quite the line after 12:00pm so try to arrive before then to beat the construction lunch hustle. They offer the typical chicken and gyro options but for me, I love the chicken breast platter… a REAL chicken breast cooked in front of me, sliced and placed on top of a bed of fluffy yellow rice and fresh salad topped off with homemade tzatziki sauce for only $ 6.50. Only $ 6.50!!! *does that happy dance* Gotta love good street meat…

Unilocal never fails me. I was looking for a place to eat near my workplace and was pleasantly surprised by Carnegie Johns. Located at the corner next to Carnegie Hall, the street cart serves great, quick food. I got the steak platter which for $ 7.75, you get a large platter of soft yellow rice, steak, salad. The rice and steak was nicely marinated. And the dressing on the salad was good. Only wish there was more steak for all the rice that is given. It’s a good thing the rice tastes good otherwise there would be a lot of wasted rice. Also, there was little to no wait. Great!
