John Carro is «a legendary retired judge.» — The NY Times

Judge Carro left the bench to build Carro, Carro & Mitchell into New York’s leading personal injury law firm.

Judge John Carro was an Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Supreme Court, First Department, for fifteen years. While on the bench he decided thousands of cases involving personal injury, commercial, corporate finance, financial, real estate, and criminal matters.

He served for 25 years on the bench and was the first Puerto Rican to be named to the Supreme Court, Appellate Division.

Prior to becoming a judge, he was an attorney in a private practice and was the law partner of Honorable Mary Johnson Lowe, who became a Federal Judge in the Southern District of New York. In 1987 Judge Carro was awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Medal and he has been named one of the most influential Hispanics in the United States. Judge Carro has taught, lectured, and written on topics related to his practice.
