Where do I even start? Forget Papaya this or Hot Dog King that! I’ve been going to Charlie for his hot dogs, his knishes, his home-made chili, and his conversation for almost SEVEN years now. He has never disappointed me, except when he migrates to Greece every winter(can you blame him?), but hes always back by the time the ground thaws. Boiled or Grilled dogs with a choice of sauerkraut, mustard, ketchup, relish, saucy onions, and/or home-made chili, all standard. Seriously, he makes the chili himself, all beef no beans. Try a knish cut open with some of the chili in it, no extra charge, tons of extra flavor. Hell, he’d probably top a pretzel with it if you asked… maybe. What a wonderful and caring guy. A native to Greece, Charlie moved here decades ago and has been doing the exact same thing for longer than I’ve been alive, a true master of his craft. He’s never hesitant to let me pay him tomorrow(a custom afforded to regulars, in addition to remembering your standard order). Always has a story to tell and a friendly face with a smile. Sometimes I watch his cart while he uses the bathroom or change a $ 10 for a roll of quarters for him at the bank across the street and he hooks me up with a free soda. He’s a real member of the community and actually lives nearby in Chelsea. How has no one written this guy up on Unilocal yet?
