Choices Book & Gift Store

I was very excited when I found their site and ordered not only gifts for Christmas gifts but also for my friends 1 year sober anniversary. I had received a phone call from them shortly after I placed my order to let me know that the bracelet I had ordered had been mis priced on their site by a lot but they were still going to honor the price which I thought was very professional and considerate. Then my package came and EVERYTHING CHANGED WITH THIS HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE COMPANY! My package arrived and I opened it to find glass everywhere. The candle I had ordered had broken and one item I had ordered was not what I thought it was going to be. I understand this can happen in shipping and wanted to question the other order, so I called the company right away. The man that answered seemed irritated to begin with that I had a problem. I told him the candle had broken and there was glass everywhere and he asked me how was it possible a candle had glass everywhere. Clearly, he didn’t know his own product and so I explained that it was a glass votive candle holder. He said ok. Then I told him I was sure it was my mistake but I had ordered essential oils which I thought I was ordering a set and he told me that was crazy to think I was getting a whole set for $ 9.95, «the crazy things people say» were his words. At that point, I was furious. YOU SHOULD NEVER TALK TO A CUSTOMER THAT WAY. Regardless, if it was crazy or stupid, you can think that but you never tell the customer that. I told him that and HE HUNG UP ON ME,! HE LITERALLY HUNG UP ON ME! HE IS RUNNING A BUSINESS AND HE HUNG UP ON ME! I called back and he answered the phone saying, «now if you don’t yell (which I had never raised my voice) he would help me and what was my problem». I told him that it was unacceptable and unprofessional to talk to someone like that and he again told me that it was crazy to think I would get a set of oils for that price, again you don’t tell the customer that. I again told him that and that I was in customer service myself and would never talk to someone like that. He was rude, condescending and truly just a mean spirited human being. He cut me off and said fine he would refund me the money for the candle. THIS BUSINESS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A COMPANY THAT SELLS SPIRITUAL THINGS BUT IS RUN BY A MEAN SPIRITED AND VOLATILE HUMAN BEING. I RECOMMEND THAT NO ONE EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. I SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS A YEAR ON ITEMS OF THIS NATURE AND WAS SO EXCITED TO FIND A NEW PLACE TO ORDER FROM BUT WILL NEVER SPEND A PENNY AT THIS PLACE AGAIN AND RECOMMEND THAT NO ONE ELSE DOES. I will also pursue other matters to get this point across. No one should ever be talked to in the way this man talked to me. EVER. It is unacceptable, unprofessional and just wrong.

I love shopping at Choices! It smells great & gives you a good feeling to stop by. The workers are always friendly and helpful. They have a nice selection of gifts, from candles and incense to stones and Buddhas. Their selection of books is more geared towards self-​help and spirituality. A great place to stop by and get a reading too! They have great tarot and intuitive readers on staff. Highly recommend!

I was an online customer. Their selection was acceptable. It shipped and was received in under 5 days. They shipped an entirely different item. I called them, their conduct was OK aside from getting 2 different stories (one from a worker, another from the owner) and a lengthy explanation on why it would take another 5 days to replace the item. I would recommend this place if you are able to give the order 2+ weeks time. If you are seeking reliability then I would go elsewhere.

Walked into this bookstore while running an errand in the area. Very cute interior and I’ll admit the place does have a flair about it. But I was expecting a wider selection of books. The genre is limited to books about self-​help, meditation and wellness so anyone interested in reading about these topics would find this a great place.
The greeting cards were very cute — I almost bought one but successfully resisted the temptation :) Oh and their little laughing Buddha statues were adorable (painted bright turquoise) and pretty cheap ($ 5).

I live in the area of this book store and I love passing by on my way home. The smell of the store alone makes me keep coming back; best incense and candle collection. What first attracted me to the store was their advertising of psychic readers. I love tarot, palm reading, astrology and all that jazz and they have a really great selection of books and products. I’ve had a reading by several of their psychics and so far they’re all fantastic.
There are not many stores like this in NYC, especially the Upper East Side, and I really love that this gift shop is so close to me. Choices is perfect for browsing cool stuff, getting a funky gift for someone, or spoiling yourself with some unique items.
