CityLight Church

I happened upon the church on a Google search when I first moved here, and have been going ever since. I’m a law student, so it’s nice that they have Friday evening services. The church is like your basic non-​denominational Christian church but leans towards the charismatic side. The church believes in spirit-​filled worship and healing as well. I love the church, and everyone I’ve invited liked it too. Music is great, and services are always on time/don’t go over. I feel like I would get more out of it if I had time to attend the activities and get to know people more. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re looking for a small yet fairly young and diverse church.

Great music but this church’s founder has a checkered past. I enjoyed Mr. Whites sermon but if you look at the site there is no mention of his education in the field other than he met his wife at service in 2008. The main pastor who goes on mission a lot has a frat boy personality. He passed out once during service. He chalked it up to overwhelming grace. I dont buy in to this junk. I moved on.

I loved visiting CityLight! From the moment I walked in, I felt comfortable and welcome! Great vibe, Music and teaching. If I lived in NYC this would be my home church. Everyone was so friendly!

I moved to the NYC area in 2006 and after a year of streamlining my former church online, I decided I needed to find a local church. CityLight Church showed up in a Google search and I went to a Friday night service. Before the service started, Pastor Bojan came up to me and introduced himself. The worship was lively and uplifting. I loved that Pastor Bojan’s sermon was easy to understand, relate able and everything he said was backed up with scriptures.
I’ve grown so much since the first day I came to CityLight. I learned that I can have a relationship with God and to be filled with the Holy Spirit in me. I never knew that before and that’s been life changing. I’m so thankful for the leadership and friends here.

Being new New Yorkers, we were in sort of a Christian church that was more offering of a «cool, edgy, youth, not-​so-​conservative» vibe than your average «conservative old school» vibe.
We came here one night, and it was pretty cool. The inside had a cool décor and it provided a comfortable atmosphere for the way people dressed.
I found the Pastor to jump around quite often on his sermon. We are not ones to get involved during the music portion, but we do like to listen and enjoy the music prior to sermon.

I’ve been coming to CityLight for over 5 years now, and it has made all the difference in my walk with God and how I view a church. In those 5 years I’ve undergone transformations in my life that have made me happy to have the fellowship and support I’ve found here.
Pastor Bojan’s sermons are passionate, relevant and easy to follow — his speaking has helped me to understand the bible on a personal level (something that never clicked before). I, too, used to be nervous when it came to others speaking in tongues or talking about the Holy Spirit, but it just took time and an open mind (and heart) to see these «strange things» in a new light. I may not make it every week, but it’s always home. (and yes, the music is great! that’s how I found it — walking past the 7^th St location one evening)

If you feel the slightest bit uncomfortable with people speaking in tongues or rocking back and forth to express themselves, this won’t be the right place for you.

When I moved to NYC I lived two blocks away from this church, which meets in the basement there on 7^th St near Avenue A. I went only after a year of church-​hoping between every denomination and creed the 5 Boros seemed to offer –and in the end I met a couple of actresses who are part of CityLight at a meeting called «The Haven» (
) and they told me a little more about CityLight.
Shortly after our conversation I visited last summer… and somehow after that first visit, I just kept coming back… It just seemed that each week God was really using Pastor Bojan’s teachings to speak to me, exactly where I needed it most. I was struggling with wuit a lot of self destructive behavior and issues… Bojan’s originally from Montenegro and comes from an atheist/​agnostic background, like many residents of his homeland. He’s one of the people who impresses me in that he seems able to tell you what he thinks is needed, he’s truthful — but not condemning or judgmental.
I felt at home there in some way I can’t explain very well. I understand at this point in life that no organization made up of people will be «perfect.» I’ve gone through periods where I questioned my faith, done questioned the foundations of what I believe — and I continue to ask and seek and explore.
I find the pastor encouraging and real — and I appreciate his approach to the bible. This is a place full of love and authenticity… there’s a lot of gratitude, rejoicing and hope in God and somehow it’s almost tangible in the air, in the space itself.
I’m into design and color and personally enjoyed the space itself being rather different than a traditional church, it’s more like a living room. The church space was designed by Red Is Fun
and is very inviting and colorful…
Honestly all of that is good — but like Jesus himself said, the most important command is to love God and love others — and from day one, I sensed this community is sincerely trying to do both. I
I have to just say, I’ve been alarmingly frank with the pastor about past struggles/​current struggles of mine and he’s never judged me or come down on me. I might even have been so frank and honest to see how he would respond. I’ve felt nothing but love — even when I need a bit of a reality check.
As I’m connecting more and more with the community and making deeper friendships I’m finding the community very unpretentious, open, loving and and very sincere… They are not the self righteous… they are just people, coming together, to celebrate and learn and walk closer to God than before… and it’s been a pretty amazing time, this last six months or so.
CityLight has services Friday evening at 7pm and Sundays at 11:00am and 1:15pm…
They have some other events, a quality monthly coffeehouse/​open mic on the first Thursday of each month, which is totally open to the public and open to anyone who’d like to perform — Christian or not, it doesn’t matter… Darryn is the one to email about that, his email can be found on the CL website.
