CityMD – East 86th Street

Unless you absolutely need to see a doctor and nothing else is available, don’t expect much and you’ll be fine. Went for extreme foot pain, got 2 scripts from Dr. Parker. One for Prednisone, the other for Vicodin. Unbeknownst to me at the time, the Vicodin required «pre-​authorization» so when I brought it to Duane Reade they would not fill it, and the doctor (apparently) cannot, by law, call it in over the phone. So I call Sh! ttyMD to explain, they nicely tell me they’ll issue the alternative generic hydrocodone. Ok, mistakes happen (though had they called the insurance co they’d have known not to prescribe that). So now I hobble back to Sh! ttyMD to get the replacement script. I have to re-​explain the story to the desk jockey there; he cannot find the script or any notes about the situation. So desk jockey (let’s call him DJ) tells me the Dr. must sign something and then I can be on my way. So I end up waiting 45+ min for Dr Parker to finish with a patient in a waiting room full of sick people and a dude who walks in with a bloody hand, and another dude who’s pacing around making obnoxiously loud comments about how CityMD is like the McDonald’s of medical care (he’s not wrong). Finally Dr. Parker comes out, doesn’t look at me, no apology for the mix-​up or for wasting my time, or for making me walk on a bad foot back to this location as a result of his lack of calling the insurance co… he just hands the script to the DJ who hands it to me. I rush out of there annoyed and in pain for the time I’ve so far wasted. I go back to the same Duane Reade and as I hand the script to the pharmacist I notice the script says «Vicodin.» Awesome. I mean I prob should have read it earlier than this moment, but for some reason I trusted the medical doctor to not write the same incorrect script twice (stupid me). So I try to get it filled anyway, but of course, the pre-​authorization issue comes up. Dr Parker screwed me again! So I call Sh! ttyMD (being put on hold many times) finally getting DJ on the phone (the desk jockey I saw 20 min earlier); I explain what happened hoping they can resolve it on the phone. I was put on hold so many times that at 9:02pm DJ comes back on the phone to tell me that Duane Reade’s (87^th and 3^rd) pharmacy phone line is closed (they close at 9). This is all happening as I’m standing at the pharmacy counter (since 8:40pm). I try to get the pharmacist who’s been standing right there to help or answer the phone somehow, but she seemed not to care, basically threw her hands up saying «I can’t help, phones are closed.» She then closes the little window between the pharmacy area and the store (thanks). So I tell DJ on the phone what happened, he tries for 15 more min while I’m on hold to figure out a solution. His final solution? I must hobble back a third time the next day to get the replacement hydrocodone script, and make sure to bring the original script (because you know, if I left it out someone may actually be able to fill it somehow, because it was so easy for me to have that done). I wonder if Dr. Parker gets a kickback from the manufacturer of Vicodin, or if he just messed up twice. But you’d think that a system would be in place to avoid things like this. I dunno, maybe a phone call to the insurance co? Or something electronic where DJ or the doctor can type something into a magical machine to see if the script they’re writing will be denied, so as not to force a foot injury patient to walk back and forth 3 times between the pharmacy and clinic to finally get an appropriate script?

I love going to his place when I’m under the weather less time than going to the hospital that’s for sure and also they always do a follow up by email call you see how you doing that’s pretty cool

Popped in here today, to get an official prognosis (and so I can stop popping Mucinex Sinus tablets). I was surprised that the wait was only 15 minutes. The staff were very helpful and polite, especially my medical assistant, Jessica.
Got in to see the doctor quickly and he seemed a bit… hurried, for lack of a better word. Or scattered, maybe. Anyway, he was in and out of the office in two seconds to confirm that I had a horrible sinus infection and write me a script. Dr. Keating… not really my style, but a nice enough guy. I prefer a slightly more thorough evaluation, but I get that this is urgent care and I had a much better experience here than I have at other CIty MD locations.
Overall, pretty not bad. I got my droogz and to the root of this miserable sickness and got my service with a smile.

If you’re not feeling well as in my case and many other people going into an urgent care facility, you really rely on the doctor to tell you what you need. But this time I felt I was overprescribed and when I called back after seeing what had been given to me the doctor (had he used the name of the medicine that I’m familiar with– predisone– I would have spoken up at the office) was not helpful and just said fine don’t take it. I like doctors you can have conversations with and preferably ones who explain thing up front. He should have told me he was suggesting a steroid and why. On the phone he repeatedly told me to just not take it and then go see my own primary care physician. I don’t go to urgent care to then be told I should go book another appointment somewhere else if I still have questions or concerns. It was rude. Avoid Dr. Chander Devaraj if you can.

Two major issues– first being time. Told wait was 30 minutes, two hours later my daughter got to see the doc for her ear infection.
Second and more scary issue is that they ordered an inaccurate amount of antibiotics for her through the pharmacy so we ran out three days early– and today on a holiday! Luckily our pharmacist is awesome and filled it without issue, but he showed where they under-​ordered by about 20 ML. That is huge and scary!
If they can’t do basic bath, I wouldn’t trust this place for any of your healthcare needs.

In and out in 1 hr and 15 min. So glad I came, I thought I was infected by something worse because of my non stop cough. But the dr gave me the diagnoses and prescription right away. Really fast and professional. Only thing was after admitted into the exam room, I had to wait about 1 hr before the doc showed up. During which blood pressure was taken and background. But hey considering my other options I could be way worse off. By the way staff here are friendly and courteous.

Citi MD is a godsend. It is a nice alternative than going to emergency room.
Had 2 visits there and both times very courteous reception and support staff.
The facility is clean, and I can’t say enough good things about it.
Dr’s and PA’s are courteous and was satisfied.
Caveat: get there early; has a tendency to have longer wait time from 11am onward.

i went in because i’ve had a fever, 102, for a few days. Coughing started with wheezing. Mainly had a bad head congestion that since went away, but still have fever. Went in here because I’m new to the neighborhood and haven’t found a doctor office yet. It looks modern. The staff is well trained in procedure. Went in at 830a on a Wed; out by almost 10am.
Why it’s 2 stars.
The nebulizer the doctor gave me was dusty. Seriously dusty. Didn’t look clean. They left me in there to sit w/​the nebulizer inhaling in and out for over 15 minutes. I’ve never been in any place that left a patient alone while doing a treatment. Well, the tube fell off (i’ve never used this), and I thought it was done. They come back in later (i waited well into 10 mins b4 they returned after the machine tube fell off). Asked why I didn’t finish, there was liquid left. I told the Doctor, well you left me and it didn’t seem to be working or helping my condition. His response was very polite. So the two stars is well given for that part only.
He replied, «You should be more patient with this because it takes time to work». Well, me thinks that if you were actually in here w/​me or an aid or nurse, you could’ve freaking told me that. Or, actually, right then and there helped me do it again. He just let it be.
He then proceeds to tell the asst, I had bronchitis. I speak up — oh, so I have bronchitis. It was like I wasn’t in the room. Um, yeah that was it. Nothing about it or anything else. He prescribed an inhaler to open up my airways (never asked if I ever used one or how it would work and when it would kick in), and a cough pill.
#1, there were not registered nurses in there that I could tell. The person taking my blood pressure was rude, and had to re do my arm several times. She used a band too large. But, yet, didn’t change the size. screwed around trying ot make it work, huffing about. Prob because I was skinny. As her dirty look showed that. Maybe I’m assuming too much but whatever. Prior to this, it was freezing in there. I start to get my fleece out. She says, NOOO you can’t put that on. Yelled at me. I tell her, I know. Meanwhile, what if I hd worn only that fleece. Its a tight fitting fleece which could’ve been used.
#2, the staff is rude. Minus the one doctor. But, he gave zero info to me.
#3, the dirt in there is unreal. I looked around the exam room. The chair under the paper was dirty. The wall was dirty. Chips on the bottom. The dust was really discerning I almost want to report them because who knows what else they don’t clean. Additionally, I don’t even know these people working there have gone to any sort of medical training that are assisting.
Bottom line, Unless the many ERs around me are extremely backed up — I’ll skip this place. Shame because I used a place just like this in San Francisco and it was phenomenal. Made it almost void to need a doc office or sit in an ER.
NOTTTT recommended at all. Go elsewhere to another facility.

I can only say I wish the rest of the world were run like citymd. I’ve only been to the one on E 86^th st, but each and every contact I’ve had with them has been efficient, professional, kind and compassionate. Wait time is almost always short, staff is warm and helpful, medical care is excellent, facility is clean. Beautiful experience every time

I wish I could give them 10 stars! I have had to come here twice in one week for two separate health issues (lucky me!) and both times the care was excellent. I can’t say enough good things about the staff and the doctors. I am sick, which sucks, but I feel like I got the best care possible anywhere.

Maybe try another location. First time I went in with pain in my ear, the doctor broke out tuning forks for testing and informed me that I would be losing hearing in my ear in the near future and sent me on to a hearing specialist. The pain cleared up with antibiotics and the hearing specialist said, no, I would not lose my hearing, didn’t agree with the City MD doc’s assessments, and seemed to think the CityMD doc had majorly exaggerated the issue. I scored perfectly on my hearing exam. Second visit for tick bites, and resulting illness, the same doctor suggested I get a SPINAL TAP and offered to call me an ambulance. Not kidding. It’s like he just spins a dial of random worst possible scenarios. In addition to tuning forks, the doctor used a lot of outdated vaguely offensive terminology that made me think he stopped paying attention to advancements in medical science post 1988.

Fast, Friendly & Efficient!
I’ve never in my life had such a quick and friendly experience at an Urgent care or ER and didn’t think I could find it in NYC but I did! Doctors are knowledgable, staff makes you feel comfortable and you are taken care of almost immediately. On my last visit there was a bit of miscommunication with instructions on my CT scan (minor hiccup) and the manager called me immediately to deeply apologize and update me while i was in the hospital they sent me to. They also always follow up to make sure you are feeling well and to lend a helping hand.

I usually love this location but I waited over 45 mins to be seen and waited additional 20 mins to be released. When you are not feeling well all you do is want to go home. I can understand waiting 15 mins to be seen but not 45 mins for urgent care. Defeats the purpose of URGENT.

The absolute best! I’m from LA and was visiting my son and daughter in law. I was not feeling well so I decided to go this urgent care center. Never ever have I ever experienced such quick and efficient care. I was in and out of there in 30 mins. The doctor gave me some medication to tie me over and called my prescription in to the closest CVS. They took my insurance blue cross California which was a relief! I work in the healthcare industry and I must commend this place. I actually was bragging to my hospital ER manager about the service I received when I got back.

I would not recommend coming here if you have something other than the cold. The staff/​doctors here are great and the office is well above par.
That said, none of the doctors here are specialists. So if u have recurring migraine, bad allergies, an ear/​nose/​throat infection, SEARCH FOR A SPECIALIST. I was given a WRONG prescription /​care plan (with advice that if it didn’t work, for me to come back so I could be referred to a specialist). I went to a specialist immediately after, who corrected the prescription/​treatment plan.
If you do have a cold though and/​or just need a check-​up, this is the place to go!

They literally saved my life.
I went in complaining of a tightness in my chest. I figured it was allergies or the onset of a cold. They saw in my record that 2 months earlier i was in there for a broken ankle (which was xrayed and treated quickly) and after taking a chest xray and seeing nothing the dr sat me down and said that he felt i should head straight to a cat scan as he feared the injury combined with the breathing could be something big. It was. I got the cat scan — they made the appt for me — and after the cat scan i was walked to the ER where i was admitted to the ICU for 5 days.
I thought I had a cold — the dr there diagnosed me with a very serious illness. I’m thankful — they may have saved my life!

CityMd is amazing. Never go to the ER again.. Well I mean go if you’re dying. But if you’re not sure and want a quick, pain free check up experience, go here.

CityMD is everything you would ever want out of an urgent care clinic. I didn’t take it entirely seriously at first, partly because the design and décor is a little more modern and clean than you would typically expect from a serious medical facility. However, they’re super clean, friendly, and efficient. Dealing with the staff, from medical assistants to doctors, was nothing less than pleasant and simple.
I was also remarkably impressed when, after leaving the clinic and having had my prescription sent to the nearby pharmacy, CityMD called me and let me know they had checked the stock of the drug and that pharmacy was out. They let me know of another, nearby, location that did have stock and provided me with a written presciption, zero waiting required.

CityMD is a great asset to any neighbor of New York. This is exactly what the five-​boroughs needs in a time of overcrowded hospitals and month long waits even for a simple internist appointment.
This location is state of the art. The waiting room and patient spaces are clean and spacious. You don’t get the feeling that you are going to contract whatever that latest virus is by way of stale air or unkept surfaces. Once you’re called into a room there’s a small TV with the news to keep you occupied as they see many patients behind their doors to decrease time in the waiting room. The doctor that saw me was thorough and talkative. I was only coming for a bad cold, so I’m not sure how it would be if I had a more serious ailment.
Nevertheless, this place is absolutely perfect for that non-​emergency bug that’s got you needing a prescription or remedy suggestion. Next door is a privately owned pharmacy, Tisane, that has friendly employees, fast fills, and fresh tea and beverages. They make a nice couple if you ask me.
Highly recommended to anyone in the Yorkville or nearby areas.
