Consuelo Casarotto Acupuncture

I sought out Consuelo Casarotto’s practice recently after badly straining my lower back muscles. It was really debilitating and I felt that I needed some intervention, that it would not just heal on its own. Despite my pain, I was reluctant to pursue the traditional medical approach of getting shuffled around to different specialists, since I was almost certain my problem was muscular.
I was an acupuncture neophyte and didn’t know what to expect. In my seething pain, I reached out to Consuelo and was disappointed to find her not in her office. I was at work and having trouble moving! Consuelo changed her plans for me and came in to her Lower Manhattan practice space to attend to me in my distress.
She began our session with an overview of my general health and asked several questions to get a deeper understanding of my stress, diet, etc. She looked at my tongue and took notes. She explained about the Chinese practice, but spoke to my lay-person’s level of understanding and didn’t dwell on it. Her focus was clearly on me, my pain, what she could do to relieve it and what I could do on my own to facilitate my recovery.
The «needling» comes after a calming yet invigorating massage. I was somewhat apprehensive of the needles at the first session, but Consuelo coached me through a breathing technique that helped a lot. She was respectful of my limitations, and avoided areas (like my feet) that just felt too vulnerable to be needled. But I was surprised at the areas that I could tolerate under her calming approach, like my head, and my injured back area.
I also liked that she shared nutrition tips and care ideas for pain relief.
I found Consuelo to be patient, thorough, attentive to my comfort on the table, and attentive to details of my progress. I felt like we were a team, working together on my relief.
Consuelo has a positive, healing vibe but is also grounded and intelligent and curious. She has a clean and comfortable practice space in the historic Woolworth building
And my injury? I found much relief after a few sessions. I’m much more mobile, and the pain has decreased significantly since I began seeing Consuelo.

I had the distinct privilege of stumbling upon Consuelo’s Winter Solstice Ceremony in 2012 during a very trying emotional period. Having no idea what to expect, I was absolutely blown away by the gentle yet subtly powerful healing space she and her assistant were able to create through the combination of acupuncture, music, mediation, and prayer. I felt uplifted and held in such a positive manner throughout the evening and left with a feeling of calm relaxation that I had not felt in weeks. But it was the profound shift into a much more positive emotional state that I experienced upon waking the next day that spoke to the true strength of her healing abilities.
Having since had a couple of individual acupuncture treatments in her private studio, I can honestly say that same quiet strength radiates and informs her private practice as she attentively guides you through a very personal healing session. I found myself so totally relaxed in her thoughtful presence that all stress floated away while on the table, and each time I left feeling vitally relaxed and recharged mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I can’t say enough about Consuelo’s heartfelt approach and willingness to truly listen as she is intuitively guided to bring about healing on multiple levels.

Consuelo is an extraordinary healer (or balancer) of the subtle and physical body. I’ve been fortunate to experience her skills a few times. Most recently I received an esoteric acupuncture session from her (a new lineage she’s incorporating into her practice). I’d never heard of this approach, but trusted it would be a positive experience. As usual, Consuelo provides an extremely calming, comfortable and clean environment. Music was ambient, and lighting was indirect and changing colors. I lay face down on a massage table for over an hour. First, Consuelo checked my chakra alignment (thumbs up there, thankfully, if not a bit surprisingly to me) then needled my chakra points. She proceeded to wave a selenite wand over these needles and also applied some moxibustion. As a new parent I came to the session exhausted and underslept and thought I’d fall immediately asleep. Instead I promptly fell in tune with my body’s energies. It was a kind of buzzy, curious, relaxed place, if that makes sense. And then at some timeless point I heard her little dog’s nails click lightly on the floor and it made me smile and I realized that smile was where I was. In a blissful, connected place. Present. A place my busy life had disconnected me from. I’ve had similar experiences at the end of memorable yoga classes and long meditations and retreats. It was deeply nurturing to reconnect to that aspect of me. I think repeated esoteric acupuncture sessions will familiarize me with the language of the practice so that i can connect to even more subtle and profound experiences. (I’ve also recommended Consuelo to several pregnant women and new mothers, and they have all had wonderful, repeat sessions with her.) Thank you, Consuelo!
