Charles has been amazing for our condo purchase in Upper Manhattan. He negotiated the purchase contract for us, explained the terms in the contract, went over previous condo board meeting notes with us, and made the closing go smoothly. What’s more, even after the closing (now almost 2 years later), he’s been so helpful in following up with and resolving an issue we’ve had with the seller that came up after the closing. This post-​closing work is definitely going above and beyond. Would definitely go with him again if we make another purchase in the future.

Charles was absolutely fantastic in helping my husband and I close on a condo. Charles took the time to explain all the details of the contract. He also meticulously aggregated the ridiculous amount of fees from the seller, the title company and every single nook and cranny part of a mortgage and real estate transaction process and provided us with a single number that we had to get a cashier’s check for.
Once we were at the closing, the selling agent watched as Charles explained and advised us on several pieces of the contracts and remarked at the end, «it’s good to see an actual lawyer advising! We’ve done 14 of these closings for the same building and he’s the only one that actually advised his clients!»
My friend who also purchased in the same building mentioned that she had to get 3 different cashier’s checks and write 5 different personal checks during the closing. It’s these little things on top of his professionalism and thorough nature that made us very very glad that we went with Charles.

Reached out to find an attorney to answer a simple legal question. After business hours, Charles picked up the phone, told me to email him, and he emailed me back that same evening with an answer. He did not charge me for answering this simple legal question. People who do this understand customer service. Clearly not a nickel and dimer. I would definitely consider using him in the future for bigger work.

I used Charles Stark for a 10 year commercial lease. He was thoughtful, patient and very responsive. I hired Charles for a simple real estate transaction. When the seller had asked for a post-​closing occupancy agreement, I agreed as long as I could begin planned renovations during that period. The contract rider Charles drafted had no enforcement mechanism in place and the seller refused to allow for the renovations as discussed. Both the seller’s attorney and Charles were unable to work this out with each party threatening to sue the other until I had to contact the seller directly (against Charles’s advice) and work out a separate agreement. His final bill was padded with extra charges for things that seemed to be included in the fixed price agreed to beforehand. Finally and most disappointingly, months later he claimed he over paid me out of escrow and I owed him an additional $ 500. I asked for simple documentation (voided checks/​wires) showing the discrepancy which he only provided after several badgering exchanges including vulgar and inappropriate language.
I have never worked with such an unprofessional attorney before, but I hope this review will spare others from this experience.

Great law firm with a great lawyer. Prices are pretty standard and in line with other NYC attorneys. I needed to close on my apartment quickly and unlike other lawyers, Charles was always very responsive to both calls and emails. We were able to turn around our closing very quickly thanks to his professionalism.
