CSS Laptop Service Center

I took my laptop here because Toshiba’s website says they are a «premier service center.» I don’t know what «premier service» means to Toshiba, but when I walked in, CSS told me that they wouldn’t even be able to take a look at my laptop for 10 – 12 business days. Presumably at that point, they’d then get around to ordering the part needed to make the repair and then I’d have to wait yet some more for my computer to be fixed. I need my laptop for work, and if I wanted to take three weeks off, I’d plan a vacation, not hang around waiting for a fixed laptop.
I’m being generous and giving them two stars, since they were polite about their inability to be helpful, and — who knows? — maybe if I’d been in some kind of extreme non-​hurry they might have actually done a good job. But, really, they were not an acceptable choice.

I was given a brand new Lenovo (yeah, I had never heard of it either) by my in-​laws, which promptly went out of its mind. I brought it in to Matt without any warranty info or receipt (in-​laws didn’t know where it could be), 2 days later it is fixed and there is no charge! He got the warranty info from the manufacturer and all is well. Nice.

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The one positive thing about this place is they can fix a computer, the negative is that they lie to you. I recently took my laptop to be fixed and they fixed it all right, and also lied about backing up all 3 years of my files and important information.
So was it worth it? I think not. If you’re going to do anything here. make sure you get it in writing because they might just turn around and call you a liar and ignore you.

Recently, my girlfriend broke her computer screen and upon taking it to Best Buy and finding out the warranty didn’t cover the damage and that the repair was going to cost more than $ 600, I suggested to her that she try CSS. I’ve gone to them twice already (as they are a certified Toshiba repair center and I loooove Toshiba), once for an software crash and for a RAM chip repair.
Since my only basis of comparison is Best Buy I might be generous with my praise, but CSS is tops when it comes to customer service. They’re really fast, they know their customers to the point where the guy recognized me, they’re knowledgeable, and are always willing to engage you when you have a layperson question or when you want to talk shop.
Best of all, they don’t bullshit you with prices. The grand total for the screen repair was $ 378.00 for parts and labor and it didn’t take a month of phonetag and fancy-​footwork to get to honest numbers. Best Buy, despite an associate promising that the repair would be covered, balked on their word three weeks later and then tried to stiff us with an unmentioned diagnostics fee that must be paid before a machine can be released. However, we had no problem bitching, screaming and waiting at the counter for them to give up and waive the fee (suck on that, Best Buy).
That’s what makes CSS great. They don’t hide behind terms and conditions to indemnify themselves of any liability resultant from their own recklessness (not that there’s any recklessness on their part, anyway). Having CSS is pretty much like taking your gear to your really nerdy smart friend who can fix anything.
