I believe that orthopaedic care should be personal, with time available to discuss your problem and the various treatment options. A comprehensive consultation includes an examination and ordering or review of diagnostic tests, including x-​rays and, if warranted, MRI scans. I will often recommend initiating treatment with specific stretching and strengthening exercises, with a referral for physical therapy, and sometimes with a prescription for medication and/​or shoe modifications. Many patients will find that their problems resolve with this type of treatment. Injections, including PRP (platelet-​rich plasma) therapy, may be recommended for some conditions. I will recommend surgery for patients with certain specific injuries and for those whose condition does not improve.

History

Established in 1987.

My approach to orthopaedic care is based upon my training in sports medicine. My special interest is the care of orthopaedic injuries to performing artists. I am Orthopaedist to Mark Morris Dance Group, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Parsons Dance Company, Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, Ballet Hispanico and, for their Manhattan engagements, Cirque du Soleil. I have served as Orthopaedist for more than 60 Broadway and off-​Broadway theatrical productions, including The Will Rogers Follies, Guys & Dolls, Miss Saigon, Cats, The Who’s Tommy, Grease, Monty Python’s Spamalot, Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, Riverdance on Broadway, Wicked, Book of Mormon, Evita, War Horse, and Motown. By far the greatest surgeon I have had the pleasure in dealing with. I used to be a ballet dancer and now i am a runner/​crossfit athlete. the appointments were all on time and very thorough. his staff was amazing to deal with and did everything to make you feel comfortable. he is extremely detailed and a perfectionist. no complaints at all. it was bittersweet not needing to see them again after i was 100% cleared. highly recommended! I had a bunion removal on 1 foot. my scar is perfect as well… its a «barely there» line!

I have seen Dr. Weiss for two foot injuries over the course of the past few years. He is on time for appointments and unlike many other doctors realizes that his patients time is also valuable! He is no nonsense, a good listener and solves problems. I just saw him for a broken toe which misplaced a tendon as well and he suggested taping the toe up so that it could heal in proper place, And it has. Very grateful!
And as a bonus — his office asst Ruth is a kind helpful woman. Highly recommended!

What a great doctor. I had occasion to see Dr. Weiss a few times, for different complaints. I remember at one point I saw him as a «second opinion» for a serious back problem. He knew that he was the «second opinion» and did not cop an attitude or try to make me feel bad about it. He appreciated the fact that I was being advised to have a very complicated surgery, and he looked at the case with fresh eyes. I eventually ended up following Dr. Weiss’ advice, and I’m glad I did. He’s very human, has good bedside manner, and he took the time on each occasion to explain what was going on, and why I had the pain I had, etc.

I met with him a few years ago, but I still remember it, because it was the WORST appointment I’ve had with any doctor ever. I was a serious competitive athlete from the age of 10 to 20, competing nationally and internationally, (so basically what I’m trying to say is I know my body and I’m very serious about recovery) until a mysterious foot injury left me incapacitated for over a year. And at this point, I had been in so much pain that I was ready to have my foot amputated, and I’m not even kidding, I was in that much pain all the time.
However, Dr. Weiss made it very clear that he either didn’t believe me or just straight up didn’t care. He claimed the MRI was «inconclusive,» barely touched my foot at all, and offered no solution or further testing. Meanwhile, I’m sitting there crying.
Well, Dr. Weiss, turns out I have a DEAD bone, which is CLEARLY discernible in X-​rays, and the plate where my tendons attach to my big toe is RIPPING OFF.
You’re right. No big deal.

A few months ago I was injured while working on a show and was recommended to Dr. Weiss by my Worker’s Comp agent. Dr. Weiss specializes in performer’s injuries and was really helpful. I was able to get in to see him very quickly. His office assistant was extremely helpful when there was an issue with my Worker’s Comp Claim (she called my insurance rep herself to work out the kink.)
It turned out that I had a very minimal injury and I was sent on my way, but I was amazed to see a couple other actors I knew who had been injured in shows coming and going when I was there (all of whom mentioned they had been his very satisfied patients for years.)
He was direct, listened well, and extremely helpful; I would highly recommend him.

I’m 32 years old, I dance as a hobby and I’ve had foot problems for the past 9 months. After waiting an hour to see Dr. Weiss, I was told that I have a bone spur in my joint and that I should do physical therapy. In response to my questions about whether the physical therapy would help me heal (I’ve stayed off my foot and iced it for about 7 months now) and whether I would dance again, I was told that I’d probably have to accept a limit on my activities generally because of my osteoarthritis. I hoped this doctor would have more of a solution but I was very disappointed.

Excellent Orthopedic doctor who specializes in dance injuries. I’ve seen him several times over the years. He always spends time discussing the injury/​issue with you before the exam and is gracious and kind about answering all (my!) nervous questions and concerns.
Highly recommended. Plus Ruth, his office assistant, is amazingly nice!
