Best tailorer I’ve ever been in new york. Super fast and really good results. I would recommend everyone to go there!

My wife and I have been going here for 3+ years now. We mostly go here for the more common alterations: hemming pants/​skirts/​jeans, taking in/​out waist, and fixing up holes/​rips. Solid tailoring, always consistent, and reasonable turnaround time. On the rare occasion that an alteration is slightly off, they have kindly adjusted it for free. Also, the pricing here is very reasonable. Long story short: as long as we continue to live in East Village, this is our go-​to tailor.

April 20 — I rip my suit jacket against a sharp fence walking home from work. Since it’s a bespoke suit, I was upset and drop it off at Deja Vu that evening.
April 21 — After researching that I can pay a hefty premium to get my jacket reweaved by a specialist, I decide I want to do that. I call, no one picks up. I stop by after work and it’s randomly not open on a Thursday. I run into someone who was also confused, said they were randomly closed last Tuesday as well. Whatever, it’s not big deal. I send a message through their website to confirm I no longer want work done on my jacket anymore.
April 22 — After calling several times I get through finally to someone with actual decision making power (?), a man named Lee. He tells me my jacket has been transported already to get work done, but he can call to pause the work, and he would have it back in 1 – 2 days. He said he would call me when my jacket was back and give me a full refund. Good, I was pleased at this point.
May 2 — They didn’t call for over a week. I had to call myself to see if my jacket was in the store. They said yes. I asked if they had work done it. They say yes and offer me $ 20 store credit. I refuse and take the $ 8 refund instead. What an insult. Why would I want store credit?
As expected my jacket looks terrible. You get what you pay for unfortunately. I’m taking this to the specialist who will be well worth the $ 150 reweaving cost hopefully.
I live by Deja Vu and will not be a customer any longer. I would recommend anyone to not frequent this establishment. If you do, expect poor results, random days where the store is closed, poor customer service, and lack of communication.

Great tailoring with competitive pricing and fantastic customer service. I’ve been several times and have always had a pleasant experience. During my latest trip to get a jacket tailored, Kai was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable.

I have been coming to Deja Vu for over 5 years because their prices are very competitive and the quality is great. The tailor here is really good at fitting skirts and converting oversized vintage finds into flattering pieces. In general I always have a great experience with the staff, Kai even invited me to check out a party at the upper east side location. Stop going to your dry cleaner tailor or over priced suit shop tailor, déjà vu is the best.

Brought my pants into Dejavu to be shortened two inches and they now fall perfectly — great job! Thanks!!!

The sales associate described my eyes as «chinky/​chink» and was clueless as to why I found that offensive.
She asked where I was from and I told her I was from Washington State but she wanted to know where I was originally from. I kept on repeating that I am from Washington State but she said my eyes are «chinky/​chink» so my ancestors are probably not from Washington State … Should it matter where my ancestors are from? Nobody is originally from America. My Northwestern accent is a dead give away that I’m from the Northwest.
I will never shop at a place where employees are clueless when it comes to racist and offensive words.

Dejavu is great! Super convenient location and efficient staff. They aren’t super smiley or friendly, but they’re nice enough. 5 stars for the quality of the tailoring though. I’ve gotten a couple of skirts and dresses tailored here and they’re always come out perfectly. It’s definitely not cheap, as I just brought a dress here to be taken in and it cost $ 80, but I think it’s worth it for pieces that you love but that just don’t fit. All of my pieces have been ready within a week or so as well, which is great.
The one little dressing room that they have doesn’t have a mirror and is no frills, but it’s not a big deal. I just can’t say enough about how good of a job they do with clothing! I’m unsure about how they only have one dollar sign – I’d give it 2 or 3.

The first time I went there, they did a great job taking in a skirt for me. I went back a little while later to have the torso of a dress adjusted and the sleeves of a shirt altered. There was a younger woman working there under the supervision of the woman who had taken care of me the first time. I had to throw out the dress because it was taken in so much that I could no longer zip it. The shirt was tied back when the girl started pinning it. Her supervisor told her about halfway through to untie it. She did but didn’t take out any of the pins. So now it fits really weirdly. Too expensive, not that good.

This review is based on my most recent experience, which differs from my positive experiences with Dejavu in the past.
When I went in to have a pair of pants tapered, a new gentleman I had not seen before was minding the shop. He pinned the garment and told me when it would be ready for pick up. When the day arrived, I hadn’t heard anything back but I decided to wait until the next week. Still nothing.
I called and the same younger gentleman answered the phone and looked for my garment but couldn’t find it. I tried describing it in more detail and miraculously the pants were found and I was told they were ready for pickup. The following day, I went to pick up the pants and I tried them on the small fitting room but considering it’s rather dark in there I did not get a good look. When I wore them to work, they seemed really baggy, as though no alterations were done.
I don’t know who this new guy is, or what happened to the older blonde lady who used to work there, but I was very disappointed at the sketchy service. Long story short, I filed and won a chargeback with my credit card company and won’t be headed back to Dejavu.

It’s not as cheap as you think and my experience wasn’t as great as other Unilocalers.
I had a pair of pants hemmed and they ended up one inch too short. Total floods. Now I’m going to have to go elsewhere to have them taken out. No wonder why there are signs all over that say «No Refunds or Exchanges.» A real tailor would back up his/​her work with customer satisfaction!

I’ve been coming to Deja Vu for years to get my jeans hemmed. The price is reasonable, and they’re always done very well.
A few months ago, my Mom met me at Deja Vu while I was dropping off some jeans. She wasn’t happy with the length of the sleeves of the suede jacket she was wearing. In an impromptu decision, she realized they would be able to fix the problem for her, and she took the jacket off and left it to be altered… not realizing until the next day that her house keys were in the pocket. Deja Vu opens later in the morning or early afternoon, so after some time panicking, she got a hold of them. They immediately called the facility the jacket was sent to, who located the jacket and the keys, and had them sent back the following day. All in all, they couldn’t have handled the situation better. I’m now an even bigger fan– and I’ve got a pair of jeans in my bag right now to drop off tonight.

Professional, fast tailors that get the job done right at a very reasonable price. I’ve visited this store many times over the last 7 years for tailoring as well as to check out the boutique, and have had a good experience every time. Not only do they hem jeans and pants for cheaper than almost any other place in the city, they were also able to help tailor and reshape a suit that wasn’t proportioned well on my body.
I’ve also brought some cocktail dresses here after the place down the street wanted to charge me almost $ 25 more for the same work! I’m glad I did — they were able to do the alterations in under a week for a much better price.

Great service and very friendly workers. Do not pay $ 16 – 20 for hemming a pair of pants at an average dry cleaning store when you can have your service done by professional tailors for at least half price.
Customer service is great; they usually give you a call once the service has been completed and usually it wouldn’t take more than few days. The stire also opens 7 days a week which helps a lot in dropping off/​picking up my stuff since most othet places in the city actually close on Sunday.
I was happy at Deja Vu and I would definitely come back again.

Really awesome store. This is the only place I come to get my clothing tailored, $ 5 for pants! Air is amazing, super quick and friendly, and the tailoring always comes out really high quality. Definitely recommend!

As a guy, Id rate new clothing shopping slightly above going in for a dental cleaning (which im overdue for…), so after a large shopping spree at Macys on 34^th I found myself with two pairs of new Jeans. Unfortunately for me, god did not make me a length that agrees with most traditional Jean sizes, leaving me in the precarious position of needing to get them hemmed.
Dating back to my days living in North Jersey it was relatively cheap and easy to find a place to get this done. Every town had a few laundromats or tailors. Hey, I know its New York City. There are plenty of places to get your jeans hemmed. However, the prices shocked me during my initial local search. In my neighborhood Greenwich village they wanted to charge me $ 17 – 20 dollars per pair, the horror!
I decided to take matters into my own hands and went on Unilocal and found this little East Village gem. I called in advance and found out with their coupon on here and by checking in you can get original stitched jeans hemmed for $ 5 dollars. No its not a typo, these are old-​school New York City prices. I arrived there on a chilly Wednesday after walking more than a mile (the lengths we go to save $ 25 dollars in Manhattan) and chuckled as i saw they posted a list of peoples faces via video surveillance who had shop lifted as a way to shame them, bad… very bad people who did that!
I digress, after entering the large store with rows of clothes and large lights reminiscent of a fashion runway I was greeted by Air, a very friendly receptionist who explained to me the different types of hemming available (didn’t know there was more than one before!) and also suggested to me using the Unilocal coupon code on my phone app, which was very nice of her. I had her put pins on the bottom of the jeans as they were boot-​cut, and needed to be cut just enough to not scrape the ground. She told me they would be ready in 5 days, and even suggested me a coffee spot down the street (I reviewed it too, yay!).
After 5 days she called and told me they were ready so I strolled back before heading to a Unilocal event (also reviewed it, I’m on a roll here!!) and i went back in and tried the newly hemmed jeans on. They were cut to exactly where I’d have wanted, not so long that they were touching the bottom of my shoes, but not so short that you’d see my socks if I sat down. In other words, they were hemmed to hit that magical sweet spot that so few hemmed jeans ever reach. And the original stitching was still in place, successful plastic surgery of my jeans was completed. I thanked air, switched my frumpy pants for one of the newly hemmed jeans and headed out, feeling great.
Suffice to say, I would recommend other Unilocalers come here for any of their hemming or tailoring needs as this store is simply cut from a different cloth, :).

This little gem of a boutique has quite a bit to offer. Quality merchandise that you won’t find elsewhere. They even carry men’s outerwear (definitely caught my interests) and their service is excellent.
I don’t know of any shop that would offer tailoring for products purchased somewhere else. Pants hemming at $ 4.95!
The staff is attentive and knowledgeable which really helps when you need a second opinion. Worth dropping in, Especially with valentine’s day right around the corner.

Deja Vu is a beautiful, independent clothing store that makes excellent alterations for men and women at a very fair price. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
I get all my dress shirts tailored here plus the occasional suit, sport jacket and slacks. I have been going here for over four years and have always been very impressed by their work.
The staff is also quite nice and professional and you normally get your clothes back within a week. If you’re looking for a high quality tailor and want to support local business in the East Village then this is definitely the place for you.
