From the way it looks like Diego’s has closed it doors. It was my favorite Mexican restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen. If the doors are truly closed permanently I will miss them. Those tacos and skirt steaks =(

I walked by this place when craving mexican after my spa day on my walk home(at about 4:45pm). I really enjoyed my experience. I had an enchilada and taco from the combination plate, and 2 frozen margaritas. Their salsa and hot sauce selection is great. I was happy. I love the open front area on a beautiful day.

This restaurant is getting one star because I can’t give 0& they had good salsa. After the salsa it all went downhill. We came in Sunday morning for brunch & we were the only people in the whole restaurant. You’d think since no one was there that I wouldn’t have had to flag people down to take our order, get water, get the check or anything else but you would be wrong. There was a female working and it was like you were bothering her by asking anything. The male waiter and the female walked by our table about 20 times and didn’t stop once to ask how we were doing. On to the food… I really should have taken a picture of how sad the huevo rancheros were but I didn’t want to hold on to the memory. It was a tortilla, eggs and sauce. That’s it. Looks like it was tossed on a plate and sent out. I’ve had huevos rancheros that were better from an Irish pub! My wife had fries with hers and some of the insides of the fries were still frozen. How hard is it to cook frozen fries? So basically this place blows and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Excellent food !!! Authentic taste. For real Mexican. Guacamole was freshly made and delicious. Spicy chicken shredded tacos are awesome. Chicken Tamale’ too good. Kids menu has good options too. Fajitas to die for !! Loved it entirely and yes how can I miss writing about margaritas we tired frozen and on rocks and both rocks — frozen were just $ 5/$ 6.50 — smaller glass though so would need to order more than one. Try this place you will love it !!!

I stumbled upon this place on my search for brunch. I love Mexican food because c’mon you can’t go wrong with mexican food but my experience was very underwhelming The décor of the restaurant is inviting. I love the frida kahlo portraits on the wall and the tables. The drinks are decent, the wait staff was super slow, they were all chit chatting in the back and had no urgency in taking our order. I had the huevos rancheros, the most basic generic huevos rancheros I’ve ever tried, the whole dish seemed to be microwaved and arranged very poorly. Very disappointing. the tacos were good according to my friend but if i ever walk in here def playing it safe

The best darn happy hour!!! first time I’ve had hh drinks that were not watered down! I came early on a Friday evening and the bar had an interesting assortment of people. Bartender was very nice immediately explaining that only frozen margaritas are $ 5(flavored $ 6.50) on the rocks are regular price. I had 2 black flower margaritas(regular flavored frozen margarita with a shot of red sangria) and a coconut flavored margarita. i soo wanted to try more. but unfortunately I was toasted after the 3… I did manage to try the baja fish tacos which was good, and snacked on the complimentary chips and salsa. also very. good. This will definitely be a new afterwork hangout spot!

Came here today for the first time for lunch. I didn’t catch our server’s name but he was completely on point. Food wise my friend and I were both fans of the chips and red sauce that comes as soon as you sit down — just the right hint of spice. We ordered the guacamole(med flavor) and that was delish. Then the chicken salad and grilled skirt steak with fries. Both were on point with flavor and the skirt steak was just perfection — seasoning, texture — it was pretty amazing! The $ 5 frozen margaritas did not skimp on the liquor. yummy! This place is a gem and I would love it if I could keep it all to myself but sharing means caring so get your butt to Diego’s. you will love it! (I gave 4 out of 5 stars as I feel all places always need to improve upon themselves no matter how awesome they are!)

Diego’s Mexican Grill was fantastic and is pretty much a hidden gem in New York. My boyfriend and I are huge Mexican food lovers so we wanted to try this place out. We were seated as soon as we arrived and the waiter arrived at our table promptly to which we ordered two Black Flower drinks(Margarita and Red Sangria) which tasted delicious, we then ordered 2 more margaritas each which were fantastic as well. To eat, we ordered the Queso Fundido as an appetizer and we fell in LOVE with it as we have never had it before and I am a HUGE cheese lover. For dinner, my partner had the Churrasco steak which was cooked to perfection and was tender, I had a traditional Mexican Burrito which tasted great. For dessert, we enjoyed the fried ice cream. I’ll definitely be visiting again. $ 30 Off your 1st Über Ride: THWOX

Awww, I just love HH margaritas. Who doesn’t? Cheap tequila with crushed ice and sugar – I’m pretty sure they serve this at the beaches in heaven. Diego’s is a small space, but they won’t rush you out even during busy times. Service is super friendly, the kind where a smile and«thank you» from you can be rewarded with a free drink from the bartender«just cuz». I’m pretty sure *that’s* in heaven too.

Meh… kind of expensive for what you’re getting. Enjoyed a few cocktails here over the weekend and the place filled up for dinner around 6pm, which was a good sign, so maybe I’d come back for more than just drinks. The guacamole looked amazing, and the restaurant smelled pretty delicious, but like I said, for just drinks, I found Diego’s to be A-OK.

We stopped in this place, on our way home from a show, and I wish we would have kept walking. Let’s start from the beginning… the chips were stale, the salsa had no flavor, the queso was sizzling, like fajitas, which in concept sounded good, but in actuality, when it stopped sizzling, turned into hard, flavorless cheese. My main dish, which was the enchiladas suizas was actually fair, but it was $ 16, so not worth the money. The only reason I’m giving this place two stars and not one, is the service is really great. they were attentive from the moment we walked in from the rain. The staff saved this place, but I’ll never go back.

Diego’s serves up some pretty decent Mexican food and $ 5 margaritas during the week. Nothing too fancy about the frozen margs but who cares, how can anyone pass that deal up? Diego’s has been in Hells Kitchen for years although he changed his name from Ta Cocina. Frida Kahlo still reigns supreme on the walls. The place is brightly painted and clean. We’ve been here a few times and never had to to wait without a reservation. Maybe I’m showing my age, but I’m surprised the HK gayborhood hasn’t packed this place. Does everyone really like house music blasting at high decibels while dining at the other Mexican money-maker shaking things up the street? Diego’s service has always been good. Servers are always ready to come to your table. Last Saturday we asked our waitress for hot sauce for our«spicy»(not really) guacamole and she brought back a condiment tray of four types. She then gave us a detailed explanation of each one! Since we were tipsy from happy hour and margaritas we promptly forgot what she said and ended up trying them all. Caution: One is seriously hot, probably habanero! I liked the tasty pork tacos. The chicken tamales were good but a bit thin and small. The taco servings are good size! Unlike those nuevos restaurantes Mexicanos that give you tiny tacos the size of a cracker, these are normal regulation-sized tacos. My two Baja fish tacos were stuffed with Tilapia which meant they would be bit bland, but 1 or 2 of those hot sauces had me sweating! Tilapia is not Baja. Dorado or Ahi tuna is Baja. So I’m still on my mission to find the best Baja fish tacos in the NY Metro area. Open to suggestions!

We went to Diego’s to have dinner and watch the World Cup during our recent trip to NYC. The reviews on Unilocal helped us decide on which Mexican restaurant to try in this area since there are so many — Diego’s was an excellent choice! The place is comfortable and has a large bar area but we sat at a small table by the door with a good view of the TVs. We started with cocktails — my Caipirinha was the best I’ve ever had, and then ordered nachos — one with steak and the other with chicken. The filet on the nachos with steak was juicy and tender — not at all what you’d expect on top of an appetizer. The chips and salsa were top notch too. I’d have to say that Diego’s was one of our dining highlights on this trip and we’ll be back again for sure!

We picked this place purely because of its close proximity to the Broadway show we were attending. I enjoyed the bloody orange margarita and the lovely Frida posters. The food all around was not memorable, except for the burnt hard pieces of rice I found in my chimichanga. I did appreciate the fact that they offer a discount if you check in, but not enough to come back.

Diego’s is truly one of my go-to reasonably priced Mexican restaurants. It’s never too crowded, and always consistently good food. Forgot that it used to be called TaCocina — it’s basically the same menu, same owners, …same everything. The Salsa is full of freshly chopped vegetables, and you can tell. Sun-Wed they have 2-for-1 margaritas — and I would recommend trying the Frozen Pineapple. If you know fajitas, you know that they are Tex-Mex, not really Mexican. That said, they do a mad good fajita plate here that I have yet to find better in NYC. I use to work at a Chili’s in Texas so trust I do know good fajitas. The atmosphere is OK, and the service isn’t perfect, but overall, definitely worth checking out.

Taco Tuesday and frozen margaritas! We came here with a group of 9 on a Tuesday night without reservation. We were greeted and seated by nice staff right away. We were sipping our margaritas in no time at all. Nothing special with this restaurant. No gimmicks of loud music or oversized margarita glasses as you can see in other texmex restaurants. Happy hour of buy 2 get 1 of margarita during week nights. We had spicy guacamole as appetizer to share. I shared with my husband a mix Fajitas(shrimp, chicken and beef) we both have sides of rice and beans, the portions are very generous. The staff are very attentive especially when offering you your next margarita glass.

To save you the trouble of walking up and down the block like an idiot, looking for Diego’s Mexican Grill(which is what i would have done), the name of the restaurant is actually Ta Cocina. The only reason why I know this is from the email confirmation I got when I reserved a table. Weird. Came in around 6:30 on a Friday and the place was half empty. Despite this fact, service was pretty slow. Each time we wanted the waitress’s attention, I would have to awkwardly partake in the staring game with her before she’d even look in our direction. Drinks — happy hour until 8. $ 5 margaritas, sangrias and cosmos. Wasn’t the best but you do get a bang for your buck. I mean come on, what do you really expect for $ 5??? Food — guacamole. YUM. The only issue I had was that it was room temperature. I like my guac cold. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt — maybe they were having an off day. Chips were a bit stale too. For my main entrée, I ordered a tamale. Have always wanted to try one so I decided to bite the bullet. I wish I hadn’t. The ground beef was extremely salty. I couldn’t really taste any flavor, just salt. The tamale tasted really corn-y, if that makes any sense at all. I MIGHT come back for happy hour and guacamole but that’s about it. P. S. If you check in, you can get 15% off your bill.
