Dog Wash Doggie Daycare & Boarding NYC

i boarded my rescue pit mix here for a week and unfortunately he did not do well in their daycare facility. on my second day out of town i received a thoughtful email from the owner explaining that my dog jumps on other dogs in daycare and that jumping starts fights. i understand he had a responsibility to the other dogs so i wasn’t mad. instead he had his staff gave my dog extra and longer walks to compensate for losing out on group play. the owner said his staff «spent extra quality time individually with him every day» and he even offered me a full refund for the nixed daycare, which i thought was really nice of him. he’s been in business for 20 years, so i really wanted to love this place (though he basically said my dog could not come back there because he bit some of the handlers hands during walks… he’s a puppy and when he hasn’t had enough activity or is anxious he does bite his leash and it’s really annoying). instead, one of the caregivers who was especially good with him said she may stay at my apartment with my dog if i go out of town in the future. (and the owner offered to let the dog stay at the dog wash while she works her shift. amazing.) my dog has had success at biscuits and bath as well as happy paws daycare. he spent nearly 10 hours at both and did fine. i was sad on my vacation knowing my dog was kept in a 4×8 pen for most of my trip, though those other boarding facilities don’t even walk the dog outside (why i chose dog wash over them). it’s worth noting that the pens at dog wash are «the largest runs in Manhattan at the lowest price.» i would’ve preferred that my dog been given the chance to attend short sessions of daycare with fewer dogs. maybe even just a half hour of time. though, when i picked him up he seemed balanced and fine, so i guess it worked out in the end. i guess my point is, if your dog has any behavioral issues, this may not be a long term boarding solution. better to try it out for a shorter stint first. had i had another option i’d have had a friend pick him up, but everybody was out of town.

I’ve been bringing my dog here a few days a week for daycare. I found it through my vet and also liked that the prices are very affordable for Manhattan. This is not a fancy place but it is perfect for my dog. It is clean, the girls who work there are great, and my dog loves going. My dog has separation anxiety but he literally runs in circles wagging his tail when I ask him if he wants to go to daycare. Once we get there, he runs down the stairs to get in and is excited to see the other dogs. I really couldn’t be happier to have found this place.

I take my pup to daycare and he loves it! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. One staffer in particular, Matt, has developed a bond with my frenchie. The dogs get a lot of attention and care. Love this place!

I’ve been taking my dog here for literally a decade and would definitely recommend you give them a try. The place might not have the kind of polish you can find elsewhere (the photos here are truthful) — but the employees are where Dog Wash shines. They truly love my dog and while I’ve seen reasonable turnover over 10 years, the owner is very discerning with who he hires/​keeps. He’s extremely involved in the business, and through his staff, takes my pet’s health and safety extremely seriously. I have no concerns with the establishment, and its because of the way they treat and connect with my dog that she’s still a regular with them. There have been stretches where I’ve worked from home, and I’d still drop her off once or twice a week because she loves going there.

Upon our second visit, the staff knew my dog by name on sight. They are extremely friendly and attentive, and even occasionally email pictures of our girls (have added a dog since we first started going) as they play during the day.
But the real selling point is how my dogs react. Every time I’ve ever tried taking our older dog to daycare (or any place she knows we’ll be leaving her for a period of time), I have to quite literally pull her into the establishment with her leash, as she immediately tries to bolt in the opposite direction of the front door. She then looks at me pleadingly, even jumping up to watch me walk away from the windowsill. But when I take her to Dog Wash, I pull the door open, step aside, and she enters not only willfully, but happily. The first time that happened, I was pretty amazed. That speaks very highly of how she is treated in my absence.

Would never, ever, ever take my dog (an older pit bull/​German Shepherd/​lab mix) here ever again. I’ve given this place two chances. The first time, I went to pick up my dog after boarding and a bath, and the staff had no idea which dog I was talking about. I offered a few details and finally someone said, «Oh, she’s in the dryer!» Um, come again? I watched as they walked to a small kennel in the back (too small for my dog) where she sat, shivering and terrified. They brought her out and I asked whether she had taken her medication that morning. The woman working at the desk said, «Oh — Actually, no! But just because she didn’t eat. She didn’t want to.» Red flag much? We gave her the pill, but I don’t think they would have remembered or told me anything if I hadn’t said anything.
The second time I took her here, they said they didn’t have her vet records, even though I had sent them over. I asked them to check again and never got a call back. I picked her up and she was noticeably limping. I asked whether she had gotten hurt and was told she had «gotten a scratch.» She limped the entire way home with her knee making a loud popping noise. Turns out — she blew her ACL. They never called me about this and refused to recognize that she was hurt, even though it was extremely noticeable. My poor pup.
All in all, the staff here seem a bit out of it, it’s not the cleanest place in the world, and they are certainly not attentive to the dogs. The icing on the cake: I was overcharged both times.

These guys are brutally honest and genuine people. for this reason i give them five stars. though the facility may not be as fancy as the other daycare and boarding places ive used, my dog doesnt seem to care about whether they have marble floors or not. when i pick her up shes happy and tired. the best part is SHE PASSES OUT THE MINUTE WE GET HOME! i cant praise these guys enough for taking care of my Goldie. only problem is i cant walk down macdougal street without my dog trying to drag me there ! two thumbs up!

It is a blessing to have a service like this in the area. NYC is not exactly rife with pet-​friendly businesses. What you will find here are knowledgable and courteous staff that know a good deal about the dogs they board. Facilities and well-​equipped, and the owner takes a personal interest in each client (two-​pawed or four). This is not an easy business to run (let alone any in the neighborhood), and the resilience over the years is a positive testimony to the quality of service the staff provides. Happy dogs, happy customers. The price is also fair (not a steal, but goos for market). Recommended.

My husband and I left our Australian Cattle dog here for a week. We were really nervous since we never had left him with a boarder before. As I was doing my research and calling around various places, the people at Dog Wash were very friendly and patient with my questions. When we dropped him off we explained our nerves and they told us we could call anytime we wanted to check on him. When we picked him up they were sad to see him go and told us how he warmed up to them after a couple of days. They even washed his towel and blanket that we brought with him! I thought that was a nice added touch. The runs for the dog are decent sized, plenty of room for them to not feel cramped and they walk them 2 – 3 times a day. This combined with the fact that I feel my dog is actually receiving love and attention from the staff will make us regulars!

I’m in NYC from LA for work for the summer and I needed a place to take my doxie mix a few days a week. She’s never been to daycare before and is pretty shy. I looked at about four other daycare places in the Soho area and decided on Dog Wash (a little out of the way for me but a better option) because the small dogs have a window to look out (granted it’s down a flight of steps but it’s real daylight!). It’s generally airy and open as opposed to no windows and bad fluorescent lighting. The people here are really nice and always give Daisy a lot of attention when I drop her off. The other dog owners who come and go seem happy and the other little pups are a cute group. This is not a big, new state-​of-​the art facility like we have in LA but the people and vibe are all good.

I have used the dog day care here and found the people to be kind and attentive and really concerned about the dogs. Although it’s smaller and plainer that some of the slicker larger operations, one big selling point is that they walk the dogs outside to pee and poop and use the local dog run for exercise. The larger places let them pee and poop on the floor and that bothers me. I spent a lot of time housebreaking my dog, I don’t want him to be confused.

This place could be rated a 3 just for the fact that it exists, but I am disappointed it’s not cleaner and generally just nicer. I recently moved and always went to a fantastic dog «self wash» groomer in Chicago and there is no comparison. I wish I could find the same type of place here with the same standards.
When you walk in, you are immediately greeted by the group of «day care dogs» in a cement area on your right which is little sad. The set up for the wash booths is very minimal and sparse. The one thing that actually really bothered me is the rags they give you to dry off your dog are covered in old dog hair. What is the point in using those when you just washed your dog?
It cost $ 20 to self wash. They give you an apron, brushes, shampoo, cotton for your dog’s ears.
I would go back due to the convenience, but I will bring my own towel.
