When you are hosting 80 of the top travel experts in the world, you better have your game on. And Dream Downtown did a fantastic job of taking care of us, aside from a few minor glitches.
Location: Fantabulous. Short jaunt from Port Authority and 2 minutes walk to the Chelsea Market, a foodie paradise.
Room: Extremely modern. Wifi worked well and there were 2 of us in the room working with numerous devices. The rain shower is to die for. The only problem is that it took us 24 hours to find the button to turn on the bathroom light (it was hidden behind the robe hanging on the bathroom wall). Not very much closet space and we had to ask for extra hangers since there were 2 of us women on a business trip and we had MANY CLOTHES TO HANG. Six more hangers were promptly delivered after a phone call. Hallways can be noisy — it’s because when the hotel doors close, they tend to slam and bang, not gently lock. We were gone most of the day, so it didn’t bother us, but it was noticeable on my first day when I was trying to rest in the afternoon after just arriving.
Elevators: A bit slow and at least three times, we would find an elevator full of people of which none of us could get our room cards to work. It was pretty funny, though I can imagine how irritating it may be. I just had my card re-keyed and after that it was fine.
Conference room: Very nice set up and we had breakfasts and lunches served. The food was OUTSTANDING. I had salmon one day and I think it was trout the next day. So so good. Lots of us went for seconds and thirds. Wifi worked well in there too.
Front desk staff: Top notch, super friendly and helpful. Best of the best.

Stayed here for a few days on a business trip. Loved the location, super short walk to the office and it felt pretty safe. The lobby was very warm and woody feeling, like a warm log cabin (the pretty holiday decorations helped). Also had a very trendy, young, vibrant vibe, the lobby was usually packed at night with attractive people getting drinks.
We arrived at 6am after a red eye. They were accommodating in the sense that they gave us an early check in. Here’s where they lost a star — I gave them a call the night before to make sure my name was under the reservation (was booked by our manager so was originally under her name) and had our manager give them permission over the phone and they confirmed that it was added. Now fast forward post red eye flight, wanting to get maybe an hour nap in before heading off to work, and they said that my name was not in the system. We were not happy campers. Eventually we showed them our itinerary and reservation number and they reluctantly let us check in. But this is exactly what I didn’t want to deal with — hence the proactive call the night before.
The room was fine — futuristic feeling, bathrooms were nice, the shower pressure was amazing! Also loved that the window opened up a smidge so we could cool off while getting ready. They warned us of loud noise from the beginning, and I noticed there was a noise canceller (lol sounds like an air vent), but we never used it – barely heard the music. The only thing I kept thinking during my stay was «why are the beds so low»? Basically a foot above ground level, however not a big deal.
Wouldn’t mind staying here again!

I spent a week at this hotel on my recent business trip to work with Google. Google organized and recommended my stay at this hotel because it’s located directly next to their New York office in Chelsea.
I was reluctant to stay there after reading the reviews on line.
In spite of my appearance– I am a relatively mild mannered personal injury lawyer .And my usual hotels are usually part of the Four Seasons or Peninsula group.
To my surprise the Dream Hotel– was extremely nice – and it is a very exciting place to stay.
It’s young and vibrant and there’s a lot going on.
The service was especially good and I was very impressed with Jennifer Zelouf the front desk front office supervisor.
Jennifer handled all of the requests that I had efficiently and professionally.
Special recognition for the team at the Bodega Negra coffee shop in the hotel lobby– Cassandra and Robert.
I look forward to coming back to New York and I will absolutely make a point of staying at this hotel.

The place is cool and modern but If you’re here for business trip trying to get some rest, this is the worst place ever. There’s music playing until 4am in the morning and the staffs/guest-managers won’t do anything for you.
I am going to request my company to opted out of this hotel. It’s clearly missing basic necessity — quiet and peaceful place to get rested.
You will have no dream — guaranteed.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for my birthday this weekend. Everyone who works at the hotel is very nice and accommodating. The rooms were beautiful and futuresque. The hotel was clean as well which was a big plus.
Some cons:
1) the sheets were pretty crappy. And the mattress was not comfortable at all. For the amount paid I would assume that it would at least be somewhat better than what felt like sleeping on a cot.
2) we were handed 2 free drink vouchers upon checking in. I was pretty surprised and happy because we had come early into NYC so it would allow us to get our night started conveniently in the hotel. Me and my boyfriend walked into Bodega Negra and were served by the most awful, rudest bartender EVER. She kept complaining to her coworkers/what looked like higher ups about the drink tickets and that they were being used on a Friday. She gave attitude about EVERYTHING. Even when we proceeded to order more drinks after the comped ones. I don’t understand how the drink tickets effected her since bar tending is her job, and she was probably used to even more crowded situations since we were there at 6:30 pm (she kept complaining she was getting too many requests coupled with the free tickets) and we also tipped her quite generously. There should be a communication between the hotel and the restaurant on proper etiquette when dealing with hotel guests and taking their free drink cards when they’re spending a small fortune to stay at their hotel.

I love the DREAM downtown, it’s right across the street from Chelsea Market (Which has my favorite taqueria) and is a hip and trendy hotel. The rooms are spacious and the hotel staff is very friendly. It definitely is a bust hotel and hosts a lot of parties but I like that there is a separate elevator for the hotel guests vs the club goers. This is something that is very much appreciated if you have stayed in neighboring hotels like the Gansevoort.
The rooms are spacious, clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. There are plug outlets on every wall and they offer free wifi.
I highly recommend DREAM downtown, it’s a nice hotel in a great area.

Did someone say tuna tartare? I love it here! The beach at The Dream Downtown is a summer must. The décor is awesome from the beach chairs, pool and cabanas with a sand pit in the back. You really feel as if you have left New York briefly.

I love the services here. From reception check in to drinks at the bar… Love it!
Comfortable room. If you like the California chill style at the pool. This is the place to be.
The hotel is in meat packing dist, Chelsea, next door to Taos, and across the street from Chelsea market.
So the reason this hotel got a 3 rating because…
All these years partying there I got no problems. I guess because I went with a bunch of girls before? But this time as a guest and we stayed at one of their suite not a regular small ass room.
So we went down to get our stamp before dinner knowing it will be very crowded later.
Bouncer made my friends and I (2guys) there wasn’t anyone in the line btw. got the stamps after 30 mins– um ok?!
We went on with dinner and went back. Long ass line again finally went up to the elevator they checked out stamps and said we need a different one «apparently «they changes their stamps every few hrs. WTF! Was that? So total of 2hrs waiting for nothing. We walked over to a few bars next door and it was even better no shitty attitude from bouncers.
I ain’t going up there again.
I like everything else about the hotel but they need to give some kind of priority pass for guest that paid $ 600+ a night at their place and maybe spent more up there. Like Mondrian/Delano hotels-staying guest are priorities.
If I didn’t get such good services at reception and hotel staff. I don’t think I even want to go back here.

Fantastic décor that is inside of a terrific space, in the Meat Packing district. Inside is a great positive high energy lounge and bar area, with invigorating «sex in the city» lounge music. Everybody was very well dressed with a keen eye for fashion, that only NYC brings out.
Comfortable couch’s, seats and coffee tables with a very modern design theme, under some terrific mood lighting. The drinks were expensive but the alcohol content was very high in creating these adult beverages.
The concierge was amazing as he let me use his lap top and desk space to finish my excell spreadsheet, print, copy and email during my conference call. The wait staff served drinks & appetizers to me as I worked with minimal interruption

They literally can’t do anything right. From the coffee to the restaurant to the room. We booked a room at the pool so we can enjoy our anniversary and I can’t travel since I’m very pregnant. Well they notified us at 8pm at night that the pool would be closed to us the next day due to a private event until 11am (check out is at 12). Nice thing to tell us after we paid for the room! This was after it took 45 minutes for someone to come up and unlock our patio door so we can get out of our room! I could go on but I’m honestly embarrassed for them. Will never stay here again. You’re much better off as a guest of the pool than of the hotel.

Im a huge fan of The Beach at Dream Downtown. As soon as you go up the stairs you begin to feel that you will be entering upon a total escape from the hustle and bustle of NYC.
Once you reach the top the bar lounge area with sitting is the 1^st thing you see.
On your left is the small. Yes its small but who cares. Not like one plans on doing some serious olympic laps.
Past the pool is a totally sanded area with palm trees and more lounge chairs and cabanas.
The food, service and drinks are always delish. So all in all this place is a def recommendation for a day getaway from the city and a bit of relaxation for a few hours.

Ugh I wanted to like this place. I really did. But the horrible staff prevented me from doing so.
I stayed here on business with my boyfriends company. They booked probably around 200+ rooms and were holding the entire conference here — they are spending A LOT of money.
After dinner, my boyfriend and I wanted to go to the roof for a cocktail. Long story short, if we were to do so, we would have had to wait in a two hour long line. I find it absolutely ridiculous that they make hotel guests wait in the same line as outsiders. The staff was rude and didn’t treat us with respect. It’s a cool hotel but it seems to be more important to cater to the club scene than actual hotel guests.

I rarely write reviews but I feel strongly this hotel needs a large warning label. The hotel doubles as a number of trashy «exclusive vip» night clubs. Bouncers stop you at the door to the hotel and only let VIPs in unless you have a hotel card or plead that you are checking in. Once you do get in, and push past the line of folks hoping to get in their night club, good luck checking in over the noise of the dj they have spinning in the lobby. The whole place has a vibe of there is a party going on and you’re not invited. I had to wait for 30 minutes to check in while the staff attended to producers of a reality tv show. (Yes it is that sort of place. Probably filming jersey shore goes to nyc)
When they finally got to checking us in the staff was anything but welcoming or apologetic. A similar venue in Vegas would have told you what was going on and given you comp vip tickets to their club, but this isn’t that sort of place. The hotel clearly is a second priority to the party scene they are trying to foster. As I checked out the girl asked us how our stay was and I responded «ah ok.» Did they ask why only ok? Of course not. They really don’t care. Bottom line, when I pay over $ 500 a night to stay at a hotel I expect to feel special and not like the ugly girl trying to get into a club.
I should say this is my second time at a dream hotel. I previously stayed at dream mid town and it was no better, so shame on me. I picked this hotel because of the location close to Chelsea and I was in town for pride. It looked like a hot gay destination-it’s not. Gay folks stay away unless you enjoy the drunk college girl scene. If you are wondering why I have this place any stars it is because once you get past the frat scene in the lobby the rooms are quite nice. Very small, but it’s New York.

You really see things differently if you’re the one paying… Than if it was paid for by somebody else.
In this case, I stayed here on business. So not my money. Please bare that in mind
This trip actually kept me pretty exhausted in the evenings, so I’m quite literally commenting on the ability to be comfortable and sleep.
Upon checking into the room, the one really odd thing (but the only odd thing) was that almost 5 minutes after I got in, room service came in to change my pillow case. In fact, they entered without me asking or giving permission. Fortunately I was just on the phone and hadn’t gotten «too comfortable» just yet.
Besides that, the overall design felt modern and in turn refreshing from a NY hotel. Space was appropriate given the location. And bed was like a cloud!
I was only on the 3^rd floor if I remember correctly. While my colleague stayed in the 10^th floor. We both mentioned hearing the deep, but soft bass into the late night. I’m a heavy sleeper, so it really didn’t bug me at all.
Last but not least, it’s so conveniently located directly across the street from Chelsea market. A must see for foodies and travelers.

Dear Dream,
I’m in a love-hate relationship with you.
Sometimes I love you because:
— you are too conveniently close to my office (right across the street)
— you have a good lobby bar
— you seem to be hip (?)
And sometimes I hate you because:
— you are way too hip for me. 3 clubs in 1 hotel… Is that really necessary?
— I’m coming for work but feel like I’m a Vegas club, even in my room (or perhaps especially in my room)
— you crush me when it’s below freezing degrees in winter and you are full when I try to book a room.
— you crush me because it’s summer and so your rates are so ridiculously sky high that I feel like it’s plain robbery to stay with you.
But like a bad relationship, I feel sad and withdrawn when I’m without you. Just this February, in crazy cold temps, I couldn’t find a room with you and had to stay ~1 mile away at the Doubletree (I know… Doubletree and Dream are 2 radically different experience). That one mile walk to work was the coldest I’ve felt, maybe ever. You left a Dream sized hole in my usually warm (but at the time very cold) heart.
Also like a bad relationship, I’m probably gonna keep coming back. Until, hopefully something better comes along.

I have to say this really borderlines the 3.5 star slot but I’m going to round up simply because I had a pretty good experience despite staying here for a week. Even if I wasn’t entirely pleased with the hotel, some of the service, the design of certain things and the whole bathroom /shower situation … if you don’t want to kill yourself after a week in a hotel, it’s probably not that bad.
I do like the Dream Downtown because it’s designed to be very upscale and ritzy. It isn’t really that much so, which makes affordability nice because it LOOKS more expensive than it really is. They definitely cut corners here and there … but overall the concept is very unique.
Each room has a round window look out, and mine looked out to the Empire State building … no complaints!
They also have a rooftop bar /club, and a great lobby area /bar … as well as a restaurant (Cherry) downstairs. With so many options for liquor, it’s so easy to stick around.
However, the most convenient thing about this place is its EXTREME proximity to Chelsea Market, my work place and the A, C and E lines at 14^th Street Station. WIN. TOTAL WIN. It really made my stay all that much more convenient and memorable. Thanks Dream!

My friends stayed at this hotel so we were here a lot because there are a few clubs/lounges inside the hotel. It’s also in the Meat Packing District where all the other bars/clubs are on the same strip or within a couple of blocks.
The bar in the lobby goes hard every night with a DJ and lounging area. Lots of people pregame here.
The room was nice but very small as expected for NY and the area, in general. It’s pretty pricey but I would recommend staying here if you are looking for a convenient party hotel.

Of all the hotels I stayed at in New York I think I enjoyed this one the most.
Loved the hip modern décor! Check in was easy and staff was great.
The room was a decent size and we had a balcony which was a bonus.
We enjoyed both the rooftop lounge where we danced til 3 am then went down to the lower lounge where we hung out til close.
To avoid line ups we told the guys working the door that we were hotel guests and it did the trick. The invisible stamps were a nice touch.
We ordered room service after the club. I don’t recall whys I ordered — but the ice cream was defiantly enjoyable !
The beds were to die for. ! Me & my gf both had such a good sleep !
The only negative was that the day we stayed there it was raining, which led to the pool being closed and the bar staff from the pool lounge were bitchy and not very hospitable. Both the service and the drinks sucked !
Other then that I really enjoyed staying here. Pricy? Yes… But it’s NYC and you gotta splurge !

My gf stayed at this hotel so was fortunate enough to stay with her. The location is set in a nice area of Manhattan and right in the middle. Great location for brunch, dinner, shopping, and boutiques. Trendy, glam and hip hotel with a more younger crowd. The service was great and the guys downstairs were always helpful. There is a small café downstairs as well as a a bar in the lobby area and a club upstairs. Sadly we did not get the chance to check it out but from the crowds it seemed very lively and hip. Lots of great art and architecture.
There is a small gym upstairs which was clean and well equipped with a few weights, cable machine, lat machine. leg extension machine, 2 elliptical’s and 2 treadmills. Great view overlooking the pool. The pool area was also real nice. sadly it rained when I got there so did not really get to lounge around the pool. They played music during the day. Our room was on the second floor so we were lucky that our door connected straight to the pool area. Our room had a little area for sitting and smoking with pretty plans and directly connected to the pool so that was nice.
The room itself was very glam and I loved it. The bed was real soft and comfy, The pillows were soft but definitely needed 2 since your head sinks right in. Lots of outlets throughout the room. The bathroom was my favorite. Modern meets glamorous. Wish I could have taken a picture. The metallic sink was cook with 2 pockets inside to put your toothbrush and soap. The shower curtain had some chains which were pretty cool and different. The walls were real nice throughout. It’s something you have to see for yourself because I’m doing a poor job at explaining it :)
Overall this is a great hotel to stay at when visiting. Great location, and if you stay you must check The Chelsea Market!
