Duane Reade by Walgreens

this is a fairly newish Duane Reade. it opened last year. for some reason is is described as «Duane Reade by Walgreens» on the storefront but it’s laid out like most Duane Reade’s i’ve been to. it’s on the corner of Avenue D and 2^nd Street.
this DR location is not super big or multiple floors, but is well laid out in terms of providing clean wide aisles and not an oversaturation of merchandise and goods. they’ve curate most merchandise categories to a few few brands as opposed to trying to get every version of items that are fairly commoditized.
the lighting is bright. the store itself is shockingly clean. you’ll find your variety of household goods, packaged foods (candy, cookies, ice cream, beer, etc.), your typical OTC drugs as well as prescription meds via the pharmacy.
interestingly enough this DR has a random selection of newish collectible toys and figures. maybe it’s a new merch category for DR/​Walgreens.
the staff here is friendly and helpful as i think they realize making this store a go-​to pharmacy/​convenience store is going to be a long-​term goal as this area is still changing from lower income residents to a much more gentrified population as high rises and new apts are opened up… and there are well-​established local pharmacy, stores, etc. that provide these goods and services currently. it will be interesting to see how it plays out since more chain pharmacy retail is opening up on Avenue D.
only thing i wish is that a a DR would open here in ABC City with much later hours. maybe in the future…
