Dupont Cleaners

I’ve been using this dry cleaner for almost a year and absolutely love them! My clothes are always returned perfectly clean and pressed. The people who work there are very friendly and efficient and they know me well enough that I just drop my dry cleaning off on the counter and they sort it and charge me for it when I pick up. Definitely the best dry cleaner on the upper west side!

Friendly, fast, affordable service. Got out the stains from my dress shirt collar on the first try. These stains were over a year old! Really impressed.

I went in with a few shirts to check the level of service they provide a few months back and they have always been great. Kept the same great level of service as I increased the volume and I’ve been continuing since. They’ve been very accommodating when I request delivery service, I mostly go to pick up my stuff in person because it’s nice to talk to the people there. I don’t plan on sending my stuff elsewhere any time soon. Great prices and awesome people.

During the pickup, the delivery guy said «are you not home in the morning?»
«Huh?» I answered, not following why this was an appropriate question for the delivery guy to ask.
«ARE YOU NOT HOME IN THE MORNING?» he asked again, losing patience. «Morning’s better,» he told me. «We’re too busy in the afternoon.»
(Oh gosh, sorry for inconveniencing you by scheduling a pickup during your business hours? I guess?)
The next day,
calls and says there are too many shirts for them to finish on time, and they need to re-​schedule the drop-​off. They schedule it for the following afternoon.
After pretending the doorbell doesn’t work, the same delivery guy launches immediately into «I TOLD you not to schedule deliveries for the afternoon, we’re too busy. I TOLD you only mornings.»
I had never actually said to someone, not as a joke, «don’t you start with me.» But after leaving work early to meet this gentleman because they could not make the original time, and then getting lectured about how inconvenient it was for him, I said to the delivery man, «DON’T YOU START WITH ME.»
But it was to no avail– he did not let up lecturing me the entire time, about the doorbell which he inexplicably could not use (he had used it two days before!) and about how he had already TOLD me afternoon deliveries were no good for him.
Also, they forgot to return our laundry bag. Hmph.

I used Dupont cleaners for about a year since moving nearby. For dry cleaning services they are adequate though have ripped a shirt or two over the past year. I principally used them for wash and fold services. Minor issues include losing socks (I’m actually shocked after this year to see how few matched socks I have left) and occasionally not returning items on same day as they advertise. The major issue I had with them and the reason why I left to go to an alternative cleaner was that they washed and dried a bag of laundry that I explicitly and very clearly tagged as non-​dry. This included my expensive work clothing and many delicates as well as work-​out stretch clothes. All my clothes were shrunk or ruined. I called to speak with the manager and he wasn’t there. He called back the next day to say they could «reverse» some of the damage but obviously this wasn’t possible. They never offered to reimburse me or make any other changes. As you can see I very seldom write negative reviews on Unilocal but felt it important to share this.

Had to get a few dresses and suit jackets dry cleaned and decided to try out Dupont Cleaners. I loved the affordable price and they did an amazing job as well! I’m so surprised at all the negative reviews I’m seeing here because they were nothing but great for me. Workers were such friendly people as well. If you’re in the neighborhood I highly suggest you go and give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Completely dishonest … Asked for an alteration to a suit jacket and the work completed was not at all what was asked for. Caught one of the workers lying on the phone when he admitted that they didn’t follow my original request to the owner. Would never go back, can understand a mistake but lying and zero customer service definitely not okay.

Not sure what all the negatively is about in the previous reviews but I never had any poor service here. After moving to the neighborhood a few months ago, I’ve been here countless times to get my clothes dry cleaned periodically. Inexpensive and you’re definitely getting quality at an acceptable timeframe. The pick up and delivery in this weather is a must in this cold weather. Definitely my go-​to dry cleaners while I’m still in the area.

I’ve used them to launder shirts and the experience I’ve had is below average at best. They’re relatively inexpensive and, more often than not, they’ll do same day service. But, the machines/​process they use to press shirts seems to ruin buttons far more often than any other cleaner I’ve used.
And, I would definitely not recommend their tailor based on the work she’s done for me. She doesn’t seem to realize that the back of a hem on men’s dress pants needs to be a bit longer than the front to create the right look. You end up with is a pair of pants that are the perfect length in the front with a nice, subtle break as they rest on your shoe. But, the back of your ankle is uncovered.

A decent establishment that is not to be confused with the one at 86^th! I saw that there were 2 when I was looking for a good dry cleaner and after seeing the review I steered clear away from it.
I got 2 dresses and a blouse dry cleaned and it was done at a reasonable time and quality. Will be going back again for more in the future.

Asked them to clean 2 shirts and press a suit same day. They did, and they look great!

I have been looking for a dry cleaner in the hood, so I decided to check the reviews before selecting Dupont.
It was a total disappointment I have left 4 dresses and 3 jackets. None of them had any major stain, I just wanted them to be clean. When I went back to pick them up the next day, the result was a disaster. They did not even bother to clean the black dress, there were still small stains on the cream jacket but worse one was my white dress that had a black stain which was not there when I dropped them off.
The guy tried to argue me to pay for all. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
The other ones were relatively better but seemed like they were just ironed.
And I had to deal with the guy, who was trying to convince me that the stains were not there initially and they would not come off… Dear Sir, probably you are not the smartest and you should realize that your customers might have been to other dry leaners, who can take off those stains!
Such an horrible experience. And I had to pay all that money for my steam ironed other dresses.
Never going back again!

I dislike expending energy to pass along negativity, but I feel obligated to let the community know about my poor experience with Dupont Cleaners.
I have lived in the neighborhood for over ten years and have never experienced a Dry Cleaning business as indifferent and unaccommodating as Dupont Cleaners is.
I can tell my story but the bottom line is that the manager /​owner that was attempting to do business with me tried to pass off incomplete work and tell me that it was my fault that the job was not done in the allotted time.
When all parties agree on timeframe for the completion of a job, and the parameters of that job, it should be understood that anything less than a completed job is unacceptable.
I will not be going back, but if you intend to use this establishment you should be aware that their employees are not always aware of the timeframes expected of them nor how to deliver acceptable work within an agreed upon period of time.

I have been looking for a good tailor to do original jean hems, and found old or mixed reviews of places on the UWS. So I took a gamble with Dupont and am so happy I did! The length was perfect of course, but more importantly the hem looks like it was from the manufacturer.

Trying to try all of the dry cleaners in the area. These guys were ok, but nothing too special.

After trying out several cleaners in the Lincoln Square hood this has become my go-​to cleaner! Reliable and affordable. And they pickup/​deliver.

For 13 years I have been using this cleaners and have never had a problem with their work. Consistently they have been wonderful with my dry cleaning and laundry (usually my cotton shirts/​cotton pants). The seamstress has taken in many pairs of pants, skirts and dresses for me. If you need a consistently great dry cleaner, I highly recommend Dupont Custom Cleaners!

DO NOT USE THIS DRY CLEANER. They have ruined multiple articles of clothing of mine and take zero responsibility for it.
First off, I often find buttons on my shirt cracked or broken.
Secondly, they ruined a pair of expensive trousers that I brought them. When I asked them about it, the owner immediately got defensive and started raising his voice, saying that it was not their fault. I am 100% sure it was.
I have used about 6 or 7 dry cleaners in the time I have lived here in NYC, and this one was by far the most expensive. I understand that pricing may be a bit higher on the Upper West Side as opposed to the East Village or Murray Hill, but there is no excuse for the lack of quality and rude management.

Before I moved, I was a regular at Dupont Custom Cleaners. I wear suits a lot and dry cleaning is a neccessity in my life. Dupont does a great job and I was really pleased to have found them. Great service, good job pressing and cleaning and the prices are affordable. Definitely recommend.

I have a dress with an intricately beaded shoulder that I needed to take in a couple of inches in the shoulder. I didn’t think it was that big of a deal. Little did I know that… mo’ beads = mo’ problems!
I was looking for a Dry Cleaner on Wednesday who could get it back to me by Friday because I had a wedding on Saturday. I knew this place was expensive, so I didn’t try it first. I first went to a place on 68^th street, but she took one look at the beads and said «No way. I can’t do it.» I then went to the little place on Amsterdam next to the great Chinese Food place… But the seamstress wasn’t in and I didn’t want to risk not having it in time for the wedding. In the blistering heat, I walked down to TWO place on Columbus avenue. They both said «No. Once you cut the beads, everything will fall apart.» At this point, I was going to say «F it» and just wear the dress unaltered.
But on the way home, on one of the muggiest days EVER, I wandered into DuPont where the A/​C was blasting and I was saved! They brought me a paper towel after asking me if I was okay…(«Yes, I am just sweaty»), and said, «Sure, we can get the dress done, no problem!»
Ta-​Da! Problem solved. They get extra points for knowing that I’m Chinese and not Korean. Minus points however for being damn expensive!
