Econo Lodge Times Square

The front desk/​reception area was great. We had gotten there too early to check in so the front desk attendant was very helpful in getting our bags checked while we wandered the city. We actually came back to grab a few things and she was nice enough to let my mother use a bathroom from a room who had been recently been vacated.
We got through the check in process pretty quickly and upon stepping into the elevator that is when I knew we were in trouble. Run down and ridiculously slow. Got to the room and immediately regretted everything. The room was no more than 300 sq. feet. Bathroom was a an okay size but you can tell this was a renovated apartment building.
But to the most important part: YOU CANNOT CONTROL THE THERMOSTAT. You are forced to call the front desk who wasn’t helpful at that point since the heat was still somewhere in the 70s. So then we opened the window. To which we were met with a barrage of swear words and racist slurs; among the group not directed toward us. I’m not unaccustomed to such behavior however, when trying to nap after a red eye flight, I was beyond displeased. So we closed the window and turned on the air conditioner. MISTAKE. It was extremely loud and with how small the room was, it became freezing so at least that functioned just not the way we needed it to. Moreover, it was probably a fire hazard that the cord drapes over the heater but at that point we were over it.
I understand cancellation policies but at the front desk we were met with, «My manager is on the phone and she’ll be busy. I can’t refund your second night.» Excuse me? We’re a customer with an issue that you can’t solve, so get your manager. Ridiculous. The manager did refund our second night and at that point we were willing to pay to not stay at this hotel and opted for a $ 50/​more room at the Marriott a few blocks up. 2 hours for $ 99. Awesome… not.
Lesson learned. If you pay $ 99 at this place expect the service of $ 10 room.

Clean rooms, good price for mid-​town Manhattan, rooms are small but not as small as a petit suite at the Boston Park Plaza.

Booked a night here a few months back due to my roommate moving out and me getting out of work at work 5am and also writing a review due to a friend of mine staying there recently and having an awful stay as well
Called the front desk and asked if I could get a later check out at 10pm out so I can get more rest… was told to call later. Then at 1130pm, I walked there from my job to check in and asked them yet again if I can have a later check out since I’ll be getting there around 5 am… was told that it would be granted when I asked the front desk at that time. At 645am, I get there, asked if I can get a later check out and the 4^th person said she’d call me in 5 min.
Waited 30 min then fell asleep
Woke up at 10am to ask for a later check out and front desk said no.
Paid $ 189 for the piece of shit space and 3 hours of sleep. I guess I get what I paid for. Let me not mention the smell of vermin in that same room 202. May actually get the health dept to investigate.

My fiancée and I just spent 2 nights here and for the most part there is nothing negative for us to say. It’s two block away from the center of time square so you have to expect noise and the hotel provides earplugs! Maybe not having control over the heat and only have a handful of TV channels but that’s really not a deal breaker for us. The coffee was questionable … It had almost a grey tint to it… So we ended up going out across the street for coffee instead which was a bit of a bummer because I love my coffee! The staff is very friendly and accommodating and we had an easy check in and check out. Our room was clean and we had plenty of towels. The location is ideal and the price was right so we will certainly book here next time we come to NYC and we will cross our fingers that the coffee will be better!

Econo lodge served our purpose well enough in that we needed an inexpensive place to stay in New York, but other than that was kind of disappointing. The rooms were small (REALLY small) but I recognize that’s part of real estate in New York, not a big issue. The sheets, however, were distinctly dirty when we turned in for the night, and the room was somehow blistering hot in 35 degree weather. The service was quite inconsistent– ran into some unpleasantness when asking about printing services and one of the ladies at the front desk when coming in, but others were okay.

Stayed here 11÷5−11÷9÷14. While I hugely skeptical to stay at an Econo Lodge (never have) I read the reviews on Unilocal and talked with my AAA agent about it. She made a call for me and booked it for me.
It was perfect for two gal’s who just needed a place to sleep and shower. It is old, tiny but clean and convenient. It provides s true NY experience. When I say tiny, it was butt against the wall to move around the bed tiny, but I will stay there again.
There is a complimentary breakfast but I never saw it because I could not wake up before 9. There is a Starbuck’s across the street and great café (Brasserie Athenee) that has a great breakfast. There is a Duane Reed/Walgreen’s right across the street too that is open 24hrs.
The staff here was also very nice. Get them to call you a cab for when you are ready to head to the airport… no hassle!!!

What a great bargain! The rooms are tiny. The elevator is small, and the lobby is plain, but if location, cleanliness and value are your top priorities, this place tops the list!
The hotel is one block away from Times Square. The staff is friendly, and free breakfast and WiFi are provided. I’d definitely stay there again.

I stayed here with my boyfriend over memorial day weekend for our birthdays and it was ok.
Pros:
–Really close to all of the action of Times Square and Broadway shows
–Free breakfast (even though we didn’t even go)
–Clean for the most part
Cons:
–Every time we turned on the sink the pipes leaked on your foot
–The room is very small
–We were right by the steps and elevator so we could here that at night
–Free WIFI but it is super slow
Overall, would I stay here again? Sure why not? Besides a few minor issues it was reasonably priced and we didn’t have any big complaints.

You know those jokes about studios in Manhattan, how they’re so small you have to step outside to change your mind? That could have applied to my room here. But that wasn’t really an issue. The room had everything I needed, including the best part, location. It’s really convenient to the Theater District, Times Square, and Hell’s Kitchen, and only a short crawl back from the neighborhood watering holes. The room was also surprisingly quiet. It was against the elevator, yet I never heard the elevator at any time. The bed was surprisingly comfortable too.
Another big plus for the room was a very large number of outlets — no issues recharging devices. Free WiFi too.
The hotel has a great staff. The woman who checked me in was multitasking like crazy, but she never let me feel like I was being kept waiting. They are also good about questioning people entering and proceeding to the elevators, and I noticed a security TV with at least 16 sessions going.
Breakfast is somewhat limited, but coffee, tea, and ice water are always available.
For me, this hotel served its purpose — a very comfortable overnight stay in a busy part of Manhattan.

Ok! YES the rooms are teeny tiny (no more than 2 MAYBE 3 people can fit comfortably)! My husband bumped his head on the TV at least twice lol but whatever its NEW YORK we weren’t there to sit in our room. We went to sleep, shower, and nap. For the location, cleanliness, & amazing customer service you cannot beat the price in Times Square. Every employee in the building, during our stay, were SO nice! They were accommodating and knowledgeable… Honestly it made all the difference! Needless to say I was very happy with my stay. My ONLY complaint was when we got back to our room one day around 4, our room was barely being cleaned and we were EXHAUSTED but that was it! Would definitely recommend this place.

CONS:
I’ve never stayed in a room as small as this. It’s probably the size of a large walk-​in closet, and getting in and out of the shower requires some Matrix-​like maneuvering.
Only one elevator, so it can take a few minutes.
Limited TV channels (but you’re not coming to New York to watch TV)
PROS
Location! It’s a 5-​minute walk to the heart of Times Square, a 10-​minute walk to the Hell’s Kitchen dining district, and a 15-​minute walk to Central Park. You just can’t beat the location.
The hotel staff are rock stars. They’re friendly and willing to help with directions, tips, etc. They even called us a cab during morning rush hour. (Hailing a cab isn’t as easy as they make it seem in the movies.) Gotta admit, I didn’t expect this level of service from an Econo Lodge.
The price was cheap (by Times Square standards).
Bottom line: if you’re visiting New York, only plan to use your hotel room to sleep, and are on a budget, this is the hotel for you.

If you’re in NYC to see a show or do some sightseeing, and just need a clean room to rest at night, this is a good place to look. Location is perfect. The room was clean. Very small, but enough room for a couple that doesn’t need much. Staff is friendly. Free basic breakfast in the morning. And you can’t beat the price.

The staff here go our of there way to be helpful and friendly. I’ve stayed at 5 stars where the staff wasn’t nearly as nice. Okay now onto the hotel. This place is a 2 star motel in my mind. But it’s very neat. They include a free breakfast. And the location is in my fav part of NYC (hell’s kitchen). The only downside is the outside noise was quite loud. And the rooms are tiny (but that’s NYC for you).

I only wish I could give this place no stars. I’m currently sitting in the lobby while they deal with the fact that, whoops, they canceled the room we booked 4 months ago and forgot to tell us. And, of course, are now booked up, as is the entire rest of the city. They spent an awful long time trying to deny they’d done anything wrong, and don’t even have a restroom I could use during the hour we’ve been sitting here trying to get them to sort us somewhere to stay tonight.

My husband and I recently enjoyed a two night stay in this hotel. It’s location is quite simply — perfect: one block from Times Square, one block from Hells Kitchen, one block from the subway, across the street from a bar, above a souvenir shop. and obviously everything you might ever need is within walking distance.
Let me first say that we checked in and went right upstairs on the scary-​slow elevator (which was only taken twice: once to take our luggage up and once to take our luggage down). We opened the door to our little room on the second floor and we both dropped our bags and started laughing. We thought for sure that we were being pranked or something or the sort.
Our room was a narrow 5 foot walkway, with a door to the bathroom on the right-​side, opening into a room that was the exact size (plus 6 inches of walk space on 3 sides) of a queen size bed. The bed took up, quiet literally, the entire room. A flat-​screen tv was mounted on the way. The AC unit was in the window. A 6×6 bedside table had an alarm clock on it. SOMEHOW a small writing desk had been fit in the room, as well as a fun-​size armoire. I wish the armoire had been removed and I had been given a place to put my suitcase instead — but we made due.
The thing is – while we may have been a bit off-​put at first, we quickly realized that we are two twenty-​somethings in NYC! We don’t have kids and we aren’t going to be spending ANY time in this room, except to sleep! The only thing that we actually needed from this room was a place to sleep, a place to store our luggage, and a place to shower in the morning. It supplied all three requirements quite readily. And we were satisfied.
Being from Atlanta, we both are not only accustom to falling asleep listening to traffic, people talking, car alarms, horns, bar fights, and bright lights — we can’t do without it. Plus, isn’t that kind of the charm of NY, anyways? Of course it is! This is the city that never sleeps! Either learn to deal with it or don’t come back! That’s my perspective anyways.
The bathroom, I must say, was actually normal-​size. We had stayed in another hotel (in another city the previous night) whose bathroom was intolerably small and this was actually a breath of fresh air in comparison.
The hotel does offer free wireless internet. Hurray! I wouldn’t call it lightening fast, but it was «high speed». And it did work. And it was free. Thus, I’m clearly not complaining.
The girl at the front desk was friendly, helpful, understanding, and polite. This was the first person in New York City that I met, and it set the tone for my entire trip. I had come into the city (my very first time) with the understanding that «all New Yorkers are cranky people who would just as soon shoot you as help you out». Thus, when I encountered her I was very pleasantly surprised. And then every person I met was also very sweet, caring, understanding, helpful, and just plain friendly! I’m so glad that I had someone so nice be my welcoming committee (so to speak)!
If you are a single person, or a young couple, in the city — I’d 100% suggest you stay here. If you have kids, or any kind of problem with street-​sounds, walking up stairs, or squeezing around a tiny bed in a tiny room… perhaps you should stay somewhere else. But I can tell you right now: by the time we woke up on the morning of our last day, we found the room to be a pretty good fit and we were sad to have to head home.

This place is good. Reasonably priced when I made my reservation. Front desk said I scored an exceptionally good rate. It’s very clean and its location is excellent if you’re in NYC for theatre.
Probably not good for families as the rooms are very small. Best for single or couple travelers. Not good for frou frou travelers or those who plan to stay in the room a lot. If you are these, then you probably shouldn’t be visiting New York City.
There’s free continental breakfast, free ice machine, and a computer station to use for a price ($ 2 for 10 minutes, .25 per pg. printout).
Warning: The elevator is dreadfully slow and it is incredibly loud outside (heavy foot and car traffic). So be patient (or take the stairwell) and bring earplugs to muffle the noise when sleeping.
Would stay again absolutely.
